[SOLVED] Issues when trying to connect to PC - HTC One S

Hello everyone,
So all of a sudden I'm having problems when trying to connect my new One S to my PC. This is really confusing so read carefully.
Typically, when we connect the device to a PC, the LED lights up and the USB icon shows up in the status bar. Here's the thing. When I try to connect my HOS to the PC, the LED blinks asynchronously and the icon on the status bar disappears and reappears. It's like the connection is loose.
My first thought was that there should be a hardware issue.
I tested the cable first for any issues. I tried another cable and the problem persisted. When I tried to connect my other device, an Xperia X8, there was no problem whatsoever. So, definitely, the cable is not producing the problem.
Next, I thought maybe the Micro USB port on my One S was the problem. I took a q-tip and cleaned it, although it already was clean. Tried again connecting it to the PC, no luck. But when I tried connecting it to my Laptop instead, there was no problem at all! And there's also no problem when charging it (from the wall charger).
My next thought was the PC's USB ports where causing the problem. I took a vacuum cleaner p) and dusted off any lint there was. So I tried connecting my HOS again and still no luck. Tried all 4 USB ports and even a USB extension cord.
If needed, my PC is running Ubuntu 12.04, my Laptop Win7 and my HOS is running CM10.
Now I'm really confused and I have no idea what to do next. Any thoughts?

I'd try recreating the problem on another Sense ROM with as little tweaks as possible.

Sorry but I gotta bump this.
I tried connecting it with Virtuous ROM, JB Sense and the issue is still present. I'm pretty sure it's not the ROM's fault.

Well... Have you tried reinstalling the drivers on the PC?

It's Ubuntu, there are no drivers. On my laptop with Windows, there's no issue and I didn't install any HTC drivers. Just the regular drivers Windows installs when detecting a new device.

Can someone please merge this thread with mine so we get the right answers in one thread please, this would help both of us and also anyone else that may come across our issues?

Thanks

Any Admin, please can you?

I should probably note that I'm not using an HTC Micro USB cable. Both cables I tried were Sony (Xperia X8) cables.

Have you tried installing Linux to the laptop?

Well it's my father's laptop so I'm not allowed to mess around with it. So no, I can't install Linux there.

Oh yeah, I totally forgot about live CD/USB. Luckily, I had one ready.
So I tried Ubuntu on my laptop and the connection is totally fine.
Will try mounting in recovery later.

I think its the chipset that Linux is having issues with so maybe look into updating that or changing it for another version.

Could you tell me more? I don't understand.

The chipset is pretty much the motherboard which of cause controls USB and other stuff. So you need find out what you on and then see if there is an update.

So I should check if there is a software update for my motherboard. Sorry, I'm not well informed concerning hardware
Will do.

Hello!
Which Version is your ROM at? Everything except the Jelly bean update (4.1) should work out of the box.
From jelly bean on you will need libmtp. You want to use mass storage? As far as i know One S has just recently been added to libmtp things. So if there would be a problem you may contact the bugowner or just wait for a working kio slave with mtp.
Greetings,
R
PS.: I use opensuse so things are for sure different. I will just wait for a kio slave that works.
Maybe my information is not precise enough or not correct but you could give it a go:
Try google for:
[How to] Connect your Android Ice Cream Sandwich ... - OMG! Ubuntu!
Maybe you can work with this.

I've tried that already, no good news
Well I'm still having this problem, the only thing I havn't tried is to "put my phone back to the way it was when I bought it" Pretty sure theres a better way of saying that but my english is pretty sloppy today :3.
So if someone spares a few minutes and can explain me how to do that in a way that after that I can install all the apps I had with their configuration and SD files for the ones that have files on the SD card.

If it is plugged into the computer, it's charging. I just set it to camera mode if I want to keep the SD card mounted in the phone.
In fact, the phone continues" flipping" between charging and multimedia mode... never stable and in the end discharging

If you want to use MTP with your Windows XP machine, you probably need to download Microsoft drivers. Just search for Windows XP MTP.
txs - will do
(honestly was a bit worried though seeing tt my mobile didn't connect properly....)

There's your problem. Aosp (for this phone, not sure about other phones) doesn't work with 2wire. My friend has a 2wire and my hox never connects (if I'm on cm). I thought my phone was messed up

I'm not sure if there is a solution, your best bet would be to ask h8rift or rohan32, they are 2 of the aosp Devs, they might know a fix
The problem itself may be the router, maybe a lack of open source drivers or modules and not so much the ROMs themselves

Do you have an old or newer router?

Mines newer, that's why I asked what his looked like. I have the sleek black one, the grey one used to give me hell with my xbox, one of my laptops, and would drop signal randomly throughout the day. Just all around not very reliable. New one solved everything.
I hadn't been rooted or anything before we got the new one installed so I don't really know if I would of had the OPs problem on the old one

Unfortunately no, I wasn't rooted before the U-Verse guy came and gave us the new router. We did get it for free after complaining to ATT about shoddy/unreliable wifi though, maybe see if you can get a new one. That grey one was just bad all around, it fought with me connecting on all of my devices

Alright ill give it a try.
My other devices connect fine..my other phone and nexus 7(not rooted) have no connection issues..and before rooting my hox also didn't have any connection issues
No luck..have to pay for a new router and couldn't get any help with the prob too
I'm on latest cm10.1 nightly and connecting to my 2wire router is a pain, sometimes it does it instantly, sometimes you have to wait for like 5 minutes... Really bothering me...
It just freaking stays and doesn't even try to connect... and then randomly bamm "connected" when I manually press "connect" it doesn't do **** most of the times. I had that problem back from cm10 earliest builds

S3 Will not connect to computer.

So last I synced my phone was about a month ago so I went to sync it again yesterday to get all my new music and an error popped up saying "USB Device not recognized" So I went to another computer same thing. One is running win8 the other win7. I uninstalled Kies and all driver and reinstalled them on both computers same thing USB error. I tried my girlfriends S3 today and it connected no problem. So I know its a problem with my phone and not my computers. I have tried clearing the cache rebooting in safe mode and download mode, pulling out the battery and sim and pretty much everything else with no fix. What else am I missing here or what should I try?
R you using the cable that came with your s3?

It doesn't matter which cable you're using, as long as it's a micro usb cable.
Wipe data and cache and if this doesn't help, flash another ROM and another Kernel.

Yeah I have an s3 also and that connects fine, it has to be something with the infuse, cause I can't flash anything cant update my bootloader or go back to stock.... anyone know if there's some part of the software that can be wiped or something to fix the usb problem...?

I've been in the same boat for a few months. Charge yes. Download mode yes. PC see phone on USB no. Power button failed and replaced it. Asked the place that fixed it about the USB problem and they replaced the USB connection but this didn't help. They said could be a bad USB controller. I've flashed multiple ROMs with full wipe and same story. New USB cables don't help. It seems it must be software related. Have removed all Samsung drivers from my PC and reloaded to no avail. I'd really like to return to stock or GB because I miss taking movies and listening to streaming music without chop. And I think I'm getting old and lazy. Fair likelihood I'll get an S3 or S4 soon and give the infuse to my kid. Maybe I'll something bigger...
