Double MMS on L29 US Variant - Huawei Mate 9 Questions & Answers

Whenever someone sends me a picture/MMS it comes in via a separate thread, with the recipients being me and the person that sent it. It also appears in the regular thread with the person. I'm on T-Mobile. Any clue why it may be doing that? I've tried other messaging apps and the same thing happens.

Not an issue I've had...ever...Had the phone since US release...Did you change the APN? You should have two entries... one for data / cellular, one for MMS

I did have 2, thought that was the problem and just added the MMS to the main data APN and it still happens.

You should delete what you did, hit the three dot menu, reset to default... reboot...test with someone...

It seems Huawei made some improvements to group chat for the MHA-L29C567B167 build. Hopefully that will fix your issue.

Flashed to [ICS] 4.0.4 and now can't text

I'm on the AT&T network and can't send texts anymore after flashing to ICS. I can make calls and use my data plan but am unable to send SMS for some reason. I've tried almost every APN setting recommended by others and still nothing. Does anyone have any suggestions or has had a similar problem that they resolved?

Correction. I can receive text messages but not send them.
*UPDATE 9/11*
So I found out the issue is related to the Message Center which you can access from "Messaging" -> hit the option button -> Settings.
After flashing to ICS I noticed that this option has been removed so I can't edit the message center. Are there any ICS or JB ROMs that still have this option available to the user? I need to change the message center number back to what it needs to be in order to send SMS texts.
27 views and no responses? Anyone?
After a BUNCH of research I finally found out how to fix this. Instead of posting a to the thread I found (since I'm still under 10 posts) I will post my copied instructions.
Go to google and search for your SMS center number which should be based on the carrier you have.
Next, go to twit88.com/home/utility/sms-pdu-encode-decode
Scroll down to where you see SMSC, Receiver, and Alphabet size.
Put in the entire SMSC number, including the + sign into the box, leave receiver blank, change the Alphabet size to 8, and delete whatever is in the message box under Alphabet and hit Convert.
Now, on your phone go to the Phone info menu described above and scroll to the bottom and find the SMSC field.
Enter the first 16 numbers into that field and hit update.
Reboot your phone and you can now send SMS.
This fix is for people who have the proper modems flashed on there phones and can still receive texts but not send them.

[Q] Tricky issues receiving MMS

I'm going nuts trying to figure out how to fix my MMS issues — maybe you guys can help. I have an unrooted N5 running 4.4.4 that is inconsistently receiving MMS messages (both photos and group texts). I'm currently using StraightTalk, though I was having the same issue with Cricket.
My APN settings are correct (from what I can figure), and sometimes I receive incoming MMS. I currently have Textra and GoSMS installed as my texting apps, with GoSMS currently as my default. Occasionally I'll receive an error in GoSMS that an MMS message was unable to be downloaded, and try as I may, I can never get the app to download and display it. However, if I open up Textra, the message will have come through there with no problem. So basically, unless I have 2 apps gathering MMS, I'll miss half of them. I only installed GoSMS after seeing it as a suggestion/solution in another forum - this was happening before I both installed. I was originally using Hangouts for SMS/MMS, which was having the same problem (and why I initially DL'd Textra).
I occasionally have issues sending out an MMS. It's a less frequent occurrence than the issues receiving, though it does happen.
I am thinking that if this was a network issue, the MMS wouldn't come through to my phone at all, so I've stopped trying to mess with my APN. Does anyone have any ideas on how to solve this?
I have Straight Talk too and been having issues with MMS i'm using 8sms. I have the old 3g sims card. what about you ?

I'm currently having the same issue with a non rooted device.
I was originally with H20 (an AT&T mvno) and would have periodic issues with MMS. Both sending and receiving. I am using Google Hangouts.
I recently switched to Cricket (owned by AT&T) earlier this month (reasons unrelated), and have not been able to send or receive an MMS since. I have spent several hours on the phone with both Cricket and LG, even going into a store to have my SIM replaced. I came across this thread accidentally while looking for suggestions on the best way to do a backup before I try a factory reset as a last resort to resolve the problem.
APN has been verified correct numerous times and unfortunately, Cricket's cust service is next to useless. After two and a half weeks and numerous calls, I still have yet to hear back from a Tech Support rep. I'm not sure whose network straight talk uses, but I wonder if it's a network issue with AT&T subcarriers?
The most frustrating part is every time I talk to somewhat at Cricket cust service, they say that the Nexus 5 is not "officially supported" on their network and that it is probably a phone issue and try to sell me a new phone. When I explain that the Nexus 5 runs stock Android, they try and tell me that that might be the problem *SMH*.
Anyone else?

Yes me too. I found out today that my G2 can't get MMS at all. I've tried tons of fixes and nothing seems to work.
No sure if anyone is still experiencing the MMS issues on Nexus 5 as I am. I have a stock, unrooted N5 running Android 4.4.4 on Tmobile. GoSMS is my default sms client. What happens totally randomly is that I COMPLETELY lose the ability to send/receive MMS picture messages (group messages that come in as MMS are unaffected). Once I lose MMS, ALL text I have which have picture messages attached change from viewable icons to blank images or "Xs". All MMS messages in go become white boxes that say "picture does not exist). It has not mattered if I have taken all other text clients off the phone and used ONLY Hangouts as the default, it still happens. This is the ONLY solution I've found to fix the issue:
1) Set Hangout as default sms client
2) Reset APNs to default (settings-->SMS-->Access Point Names--> hit three dots-->reset to default)
3) Go to main phone settings (Settings-->More-->Mobile Networks-->Access Point Names), reset to default
4) Select the APNs that your device normally uses (for me, its fast.t-mobile.com), set MMS Port to 8080 and save APN
5) go back into Hangouts, select the same APN (fast.t-mobile.com), set the MMS Port to 8080 and save APN
6) Reboot phone
Once its rebooted, if your MMS images are once again viewable in Hangouts, its fixed and you can send/receive picture messages again. You can now switch to whatever default client you chose. This has worked for me EVERY time to 'fix' the MMS issue, but what I have never figured out is WHY its happening and I can't pinpoint exactly when it started. I want to say the update to 4.4.2 may have triggered it, but I honestly can't recall. I know this wasn't ALWAYS an issue. If anyone else has any theories/ideas, I'm all ears. Its just a pain in the a** to have to reset the APNS in two spots and reboot every time this happens (I think I read that Hangouts' APN settings can override the system APN settings so that's why I reset in both spots). I've tried ONLY resetting the main phone's APN and it didn't fix the issue.

**com.qualcomm.qcrilmsgtunnel** is your gn0me in the engine;
where sms/ mms is *natively* transported via the native phone functions & hooks, hangouts provides the same functionality *over the top* of the carrier's route, strictly IP; call it hi-jacking in a sense, that's what you en-able hangouts to do on reboots, hijack those functions..
*SIM toolkit
*Phone/Messaging storage
*Phone
is what com.qualcomm.qcrilmsgtunnel is tied to, which hangouts, isn't..
Last update to hangouts screwed up my APN setting. ?

[Q] Tmobile Group Chat missing messages?

Hey all. I know similar questions have been asked, but I've yet to figure out a solution to it. I just ported my number from verizon for this phone. As we know, the Tmobile version's stock messaging app doesn't support group chat, so I chose to use Google Messenger. I've been missing messages in group chat since day one. I will get about 60%, sometimes as low as 20%, or the messages. The rest will just never come in. The issue also occures in standard picture messages and texts, but are much less frequent. This is incredibly infuriating, as the tech support has no idea what the solution is, and sony thinks it's tmobile's issue.
Things I have tried:
1. Set the APNs to be ipv4/6.
2. Use Textra with tmobile fixes.
3. Turn off wifi calling.
4. Turn off wifi.
5. Change sim cards.
6. Disable stock messaging app.
7. Disable voLTE.
I'm at my witt's end with it, and no tech support will give me an acceptable solution. Has anyone had this issue, and maybe know a way to fix it? I'd appreciate any input you can provide.
Thanks!
Edit: also, I did not come from an iPhone prior to switching. The issue doesn't seem to be limited to iPhones, but they're the only ones I tend to group chat. And finally, the phones are on Verizon and at&t.
I'm having the exact same issue. It's frustrating and I will be returning the phone soon.

I'm getting mine, they come in as not downloaded, soon as I hit download I get them all after that
I think I might have fixed it, but I don't know what caused it to begin with. After doing a factory reset on the phone, all of the group chat seems to come in and in the right order. I don't know if what application was causing the conflict, if there was any. But it seems to be working for now...
For those having the issue, maybe try that. Also, change the APN type to ipv4/6. I'll report back if there's any change or if I figure out the conflict.
I too did a factory reset but the stock messaging app does not support group texts correctly. Either on cell or WiFi calling. It slowly reverts back to missing texts with continues usage until you factory reset again.

T-Mobile Missing some group chat sms texts
I'm having the same problem with my T-Mobile Z3. I think the problem is with T-Mobile, not the phone but I haven't been able to figure out what is causing it. I thought it was poor reception or Wifi Calling, but even with WIfi Calling off and Personal Cell Spot boosters, I still miss some. Otherwise, I love the phone.
As other users have said, this wasn't a permanent fix. My phone stopped rceiving group chat properly overnight, so now i'm back to square one. This is infuriating.
welcome to the jungle man. more and more i believe the problem is due to the phone and how it fetches mms. maybe it has to do with power management. because why would we get them all correctly after factory reset and slowly it starts dropping mms again. so strange.

have you had mms issues with other phones on tmobile? i briefly had a m8 but had faulty bluetooth so i had to return it. didnt have time to really see if it had mms issues too.
Is it possible that with Stamina mode enabled the mms notification is expiring before the message content is downloaded? Might try adding the messaging app to the Stamina exclusion app list to see if that helps.

but i dont have stamina mode on. is it on by default? it says off on power management. i even disabled "queue background data"
still missing mms.
since family is in town for thanksgiving i have family members with different iphones and android phones with carriers on sprint, sprint/republic wireless, and verizon.
ran a few tests.. i could steadily reproduce missing group mms from sister with iphone 5 on verizon when everybody else got them. i disabled imessage on her phone and then her mms came through. reenabled imessage on her phone and mms still came through. no idea if this was coincidence or i actually did something important. i think i'm sending the phone back for nexus 6. if it has trouble then i have to jump ship from tmo.

Stamina is off by default, so that's probably not the issue.
Maybe check your detailed usage by date and sender on TMO website to see if they show receipt of the missed messages, that would give an indication if it's a TMO issue or something with the phone.
Make sure your APN is set correctly. Mine was not set out of the box. Google it or search T-Mobile support page for correct settings. After I set APN it works flawlessly. Even group messaging.
I'm having the same problem and it's aggrivating not knowing if you missed messages.
It's not just group messages but regular messages.
Regulator (and others),
To answer your question, I'm a new tmobile customer. So, I haven't had this issue om Verizon. That said, I checked the messaging logs on my account, and it seems to actually be missing on their end. These groupchats I am missing aren't even being reported on their end. I'm planning on calling their service again to give them the details. I wish there was something else I could update with. This can't be a software issue at that point, right?
I have the same exact issue, word for word sadly, yesterday was the worst, people kept telling me that they couldn't get a hold of me, i restart my phone and BAM 20 texts blitz my phone from 2 days before -.-
TLDR
After turning off VoLTE (Settings > call settings > un-check Enable VoLTE) i seem to have no texts struggling to send still need to test group chats
Just thought I would update everyone who might be curious. After puttig in 2 more trouvle tickets with he tmobile engineers and finally giving up on going through tech support, I went to the tmobile store in person. I asked to transfer my number to a temp phone there to determine whether or not it's a handset or backend issue. Group chats came in perfectly on the LG G2. With that knowledge, I requested a second replacement phone. In case you didn't know (as no rep told me) we have a 1 year warrenty through tmobile by default ON TOP of the 2 year sony warrenty. This one was refurbished, but the texting issues are not there. I would recommend everyone do the same, if they are able. Right now, tmobile isn't recognizing it as a handset issue, or an issue at all, which is very strange. Hope this helps you guys.
Tl;dr get a replacement handset.
FWIW - i came upon this thread googling the same issue, but i have a nexus 5 on tmobile. i think it is the service, not the phone. getting ready to call t-mobile now...
Switched to Tmobile from Sprint 2 weeks ago. I am having the exact same problem with MMS/Group texting on my new stock Z3. I have confirmed that I am definitely not receiving all group messages. Turning off WiFi calling didn't help, turning off Volte didn't help, Stamina mode has never been on. I've tried using Textra and Google Messenger and Hangouts. I would say I get about 50% of the group messages sent to me. When I do get one it shows up in the threaded group message ok but I'll also have a notification from the individual (one-on-one) thread with the person that just sent the message and it shows as download failed.

I've been having the same issues that you (and others) have described. That is, missing group messages, some sms messages delayed significantly (sometimes a day or more) before I receive them, cannot download mms messages, etc. I am also a former Verizon customer, but have never had an iPhone.
Before I trade in my Z3 for a refurbished model, has the new phone permanently fixed all your messaging issues? If so, which messaging app are you using now? Hangouts? Textra?
Thanks so much. This is an incredibly frustrating issue. Such a fundamental phone function.
I'm waiting for 5.0 to come out. People are speculating that the messaging in lollipop will fix this issue.

"No subject" line in MMS

For the love of God...why is there always a subject line when I send a MMS to someone? I have turned off this option in settings, yet they still see this when I send a picture or am part of a group message. Very annoying and completely unnecessary
I believe it is a common problem for stock SMS/MMS app on T-Mobile network. Have had this issue since Note 4. I resort to use 3rd party SMS app such as Textra to eliminate the subject line.
Just saw this sorry...damn. Well I'll start using Google messenger then. Thanks
I must be overlooking something cause whenever I send a MMS or group text I don't see a subject line, my N2 was the same way l. On my N2 often when I received a MMS I would see a subject line but not when I send one. I don't see a setting on my N5 to turn off/on subject line.
I didn't see the subject line either but the recipient would. And the option is under messages settings > more settings > multi media
I was going to say I guess it differs by carrier/variant but since you are posting in the Tmo section I assuming you have a Tmo variant. My N920T does not have that setting & I verified with a couple of people that received MMS & group texts that they do not see a subject line from me.
Lol that is weird. Yea I have the T-Mobile variant as well and I have that option. Weird
Yeah that is weird but then again I'm running a stock modified OI5 rom. Not sure if that's why but I don't recall seeing anything about the stock messenger app being modified.
I have the LG G8 thinq phone on TMobile. I've used the LG SMS app but the "Subject: NOSUBJECT" is really annoying and I can't turn it off. See it on/off in group texts and always when a photo is sent. Switching to Google SMS (boring) eliminates the Subject/NOSUBJECT but I'll try Texstra next. There is no setting in the LG SMS to turn it on/off nor do senders (Android Samsung and iPhone) that affects this.

Text(SMS) to email issues - TMobile

When attempting to send a text msg to an email address (or reply to someone that has texted your [email protected]) Receiving "Service Not Available" msg. I couldn't find anything related in searching. I have added the correct APN information as well. No other issues, all other services functioning. Using the SIM card taken directly out of the HTC 10 where this worked. Note that you are prompted to enable it on the 10 but not on the 11. I have a ticket in to HTC but i'm pretty sure they are just going to give me that APN info again.
Thanks!
Have you sent yourself an mms?. Some carriers use it to activate the mms service as not all people want it or use it.
Only mms can be sent to emails so you must have the mms service active, you may need to contact your carrier if you dont and sending yourself an mms doesn't work.
thank you. just now saw your response as i'm having the same issue on the U12+. sadly HTC support was no help either saying they didn't think they added that dev into the phone. You would have thought receiving from others would activate it just the same, but i guess not. and who doesn't send pictures via text these days? LOL? i would think everyone is using MMS??
