Dual boot android 7/Ubuntu for the XZ anytime soon? - Sony Xperia XZ Questions & Answers

I was wondering if you guys have any idea if this will be possible in the future... I love the idea of getting KDE or at least ubuntu in the XZ. I read the treads but non of them refers to this matter. Obviously you need to root, meaning most likely downgrade to android 6 if I am not mistaken. thanks for your time

clearly interested in the proposal
Hi...
I'm taking this idea seriously at the moment. I hear sailfish os can be flashed on sony xperia z.
rooting the phone is hard enough as it is according to the experts.
I'll look into rooting to begin with...shouldn't be too difficult, but lets face it, it is....
updates soon....

Flashing the SE Satio

Hello xda-developers members,
I am an owner of the Sony Ericsson Satio. I bought the phone in December 2009 on a 24 month contract so i cant get a new one untill December 2011.
After having the phone for a few months running R1CA037 firmware(hacked) we got an update(for me it was the first update) but i did not know that it would render the phone unhackable. So i lost my hack. After some time we found another way to retain our hack in the new R2AK006 firmware.
Quite some time passed since this update and SE said they will not update the phone anymore..that was it..1 update and it was over.
The phone is running Symbian s60v5, i know that for some Symbian sucks and many dont like it.
Seeing as you guys were able to root the X10 i was really hoping you guys could help us advance. The Satio lacks a lot of features. Using C2Z some of us were able to get some better functionality but C2Z is limited and cant do a lot of things we want. The only way is flashing the phone with a customized rom just like the i8910 omnia users..but this phone can't be flashed. It can be flashed with Omnius but it can only flash s1fl files which cannot be customized.
I hope i am speaking from all of the Satio community..i(and probably everyone else) is turning to you for help on flashing the satio.
If we can do that we can probably enable a lot of features like HD Playback and HD Video Recording(which cant be done with C2Z)
I hope there are people out there that can help us
Thank you
P.S
I hope i got this in the correct forum
Sorry for the bump, but we really need help on this

Android on the Arrive/7 Pro

Searched, and haven't found a thread on this.
I'm due for an upgrade in July on my Sprint line, and I was almost certain I was going to go with the EVO 3D (when it comes out), but then I saw the HTC Arrive and kinda liked it. The thing is, though, that I really like Android as well. I know dual-booting Android was possible on the Touch Pro 2, so I was wondering if it's possible to do the same thing with the Arrive/7 Pro, or if having Windows Phone 7 prevents it from being able to do this. Thanks!
It cannot be done as of now.

The HTC 7 Pro has the same SoC as HD7 and HD2, and both of them already have Android.
Why Android still can't be ported for 7 Pro?
I'm pretty sure that hardspl must be available before we can flash custom roms on our pros. More imporantly some sort of application like haret for WM6 but for WP7 would probably also need to be developed first. Hopefully some fine day it will all be possible like on the HD2.
i was looking at how they dual boot with hd2, and it looks like they boot from sdcard, and flash wp7. we shouldn't need to flash wp7, but booting android is sdcard boot. so i see no reason why we can't boot from sdcard, unless we need a special boot loader, and the boot loader they need doesn't have the access to wp7 to get the boot loader working properly and that goes beyond me please correct me if I'm wrong.
why would anyone want to put an unsecure, laggy, fragmented, built from stolen code OS like Android on a fine device such as the arrive? wp7 is leaps and bounds superior to Android and once mango arrives it will be even better. thus the need to do this isn't necessary.

and also many articles that say the opposite. Dont just spew out stuff and say it as fact. Other people have different preferences.
iOS is just as fragmented as Android. Only thing is that Apple controls the fragmentation so dumbass developers dont try making completely universal apps when they dont know how the hell to do that.
And fragmentation isnt an issue for consumers. Its perfectly fine. So i dont understand your bias against it unless you are a developer.

its not fragmentation thats an issue for consumers its malware, there have been numerous reports about this already, im not an iFan either
I really don't care whether you or anyone says android is worse or better than wp7 but it would be nice to switch if one wants to. so when there is a thread discussing the possibility to port android on the 7 pro, there is no need for no-sayers, since they can occupy their brains with other stuff.
i would love to see this, but especially since there is only 1 sd-card, its either flashing one or the other i think...
Not possible on wp7 YET

Hello all,
I am new to mobile phones and I would like to post some questions, which are general in fact, but closely related to the topic and the Arrive device.
I would like to have another OS on it and I have found a way to change the SD cart it is running with, so I should be able to change or modify it with no trouble.
I imagine that I could find another HTC device with identical hardware and deploy it's ROM to this one in a manner similar to HD2's approach. I am so new that I already can feel how dumn is that ... but still.
I need to clarify some basics in order to know what to look for. First of all what does the firmware does and how it is related to the OS. Can I imagine it is something like BIOS, which controls the main hardware like processor, ram, telephony, etc? If so what stops me of formatting the SD and booting another system from it on the same hardware.
Another thing is what the ROM contains and how it is related to the OS. I am with the impression that it has everything in it -- OS distributive, firmware backup and bootloader maybe. If that is correct am I free to cook a ROM that contains the same firmware (as I imagine it like a BIOS alternative), the bootloader of another system and its distributive? Of course the ROM that is already on the device may and most probably will try to stop me, so I will need to somehow format it.
I do not express myself too good due to lack of expertise, but I know computers and I believe you will know what to tell me to straighten my thoughts.
Thank you in advance for any information you provide.
Sincere,
drel
At this stage, pesonally, I think wp7 is the best os to me. At it is not laggy as android does and looks more beautiful than iOS...

I think what you meant to say was "Why would anyone have a different opinion than my awesome opinion?" As much as I love WP7 I'd love to be able to use Android with this chassis. Choice is always good. There is no Android phone with this keyboard.

Bump. Having no Bluetooth SPP has just pissed me off for a year. About to get an Galaxy Nexus S come May, so I don't mind tinkering with my Arrive for now.
hello?
Any news about dual booting android on arrive / HD7 Pro? I read the thread and some users just talk crap. " Why this? Why that?" Why not, may I ask. I Love WP7, i really think that beats the crap out of everything else. But why can't we dream of having android too? As far as I know, Android has at the moment much more apps ( free and payed ones ) available than WP7. My brother-in-law has veetle ( just an example ) on his Xperia S, and he can watch live football/soccer which I can't cuz there is no veetle available. And who can name veetle, can name many others too. The point is: Combining the best of two worlds would makes fully profit from our beloved phones, which we payed ( at least I did ). I really hope that some news about this stuff.
Best Regards

[Q] Where to find Rooting Guides??

Hey guys, I just moved to android nd i wanna root my Desire S. The problem is that its S-On. Also, i can't seem to find anythng particular about rooting. I ws able to jailbreak my iPod for the first time in 1/2 an hour wid the help of Redmondpie and a youtube channel. So, r there any good sites which have (noob friendly) rooting guides? Is there any youtube channel i shud subscribe to? Thanks !
have u even looked at this forum? why are there 100 posts with rooting about s-on? easy: it's not possible.
get a xtc clip if u want to root, beside that there is no way (yet)
@Blezz is completely right at least search and read before asking, otherwise the forum just gets polluted with the same question over and over....
anyway, for your answer, read this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1076937
I feel that the root of desire htc s is not a priority for developers and hackers.Dommage for their owners.
well time will show, i am sure sometime there will come the right romleak from our hero 911sniper
Historically HTC android phones always had the best rooting support and dev community. But this year HTC changed their policy and decided to start encrypting their boot loaders. So its a complete change in philosophy and quite honestly I think this is a very bad decision by HTC. They may alienate their user base.
Look at the new Samsung galaxy s2, comes with an unlocked boot loader. Tides could be shifting, that's for sure.

Definitely I am deeply disappointed with the desire s hardware, when you come out with a next generation phone users expect a next step up like the galaxy s2. HTC will lose out to Samsung and so. Even Sony Ericsson that I dislike before are making the right moves I should have gotten a SE arc or waited for the neo.

I am also disapointed by HTC's decision to lock Android OS. It does not allow me to use many usefull applications from Andriod market and restricts the basic functionality, such as taking screenshots and making backup. I would prefer to know it before buying the phone from HTC.
As to the rooting, I am afraid that the system upgrades come nowadays over air providing not enough information on the security unlocking. What do you think?
For now its imposible to S-Off Desire S without XTC clip...
But time will change everythings dude
For me DS is enough without root

wouldn't be too sure if time will change it
we would need a android 2.4 update for it, cause a 2.3.4 update would be so small that i don't think htc would use a engineering bootloader to develop it

Yes
Is there a statement from htc IF and WHEN the DesireS WILL be updated to 2.3.4?
(For the htchero the 2.1 updates came 8(!) month later than the official google update...)
there isn't, but i think the desire s will get the 2.3.4 update cause it's only small jump from 2.3.3 to 2.3.4 and 2.3.4 is supporting front camera so it would be in htc's marketing sense
need root access pliz
GUYS, RELAX !!!!!!! I wasn't asking for Desire S rooting guides, just rooting guides in general, so if you know any sites where i can learn about flashing roms and kernels and about other stuff, (again, NOT FOR DESIRE S BUT IN GENERAL) do post them here. I forgot that i even posted this thread. An email reminded me
well the main page for rooting is... well.. u tried xda-developers.com ? seriously, rooting is device specific, not every rooting program works for every device, so you have to look here yourself for the devices u are interested, or look at the general android forum here at tools like OneClickRoot or Visionary etc. which work for some devices but also not for all

Why isn't there any development going on for the Xperia 5?

The phone is about 6 months old now and we barely have root available. Are developers just not interested in the Xperia 5? I was really hoping for someone to come around and fix the fingerprint scanner issue and maybe release an unofficial LineageOS. What are your thoughts on this?
I believe it's due to a lack of TWRP and root on Android 10, especially on Sony devices. Could also be that devs are on older devices and not on the 1 or 5.

To be honest, this is My first Device ever which isn't that much bloated with 3rd Party Apps from a OEM and other Stuff. Pretty clean Google like with smart additions. Good perfroming and with awesome Battery Life. Sound is awesome compared to previous SONY Devices over the Speakers and Root isn't a problem since You can edit Your Kernel Image with Magisk App even without TWRP. So at the end aren't there any efforts anymore to get TWRP (There was one on the Xperia 1 Forums that did not work right). Think that could be a thing once the new Xperia 1 (2) or even the next comes really out with new Software Gimmicks to port over or once we get outdated with official Updates from SONY (GSI/AOSP Development). I don't see a reason besides a Magisk Module with small additions and tweaks to make a Stock ROM for example atm. and to be honest again. Someone de-motivated me a bit some time ago with developing for SONY Devices. But who knows, maybe am i at least starting something again for the 1 and 5 Series (Don't know anything about a new 5 Model yet) if i get some free time again. Just use My Xperia 5 as daily atm. with a Module Prototype ported from My last Project...

I have my doubts because the last Sony phones that had decent development were the XZ1 and XZ1C. XZ2, XZ3, and 1 had little to no development.
