So I recently got a second-hand LG Cookie and I was wondering if I could flash it to Android. I've looked around on the Interwebz but nobody seems to have any useful information.
Can you guys help me out?
Thanks in advance.
Sorry, but not even by a long shot.
Android needs to be ported to the device for it to even run on that specific phone. It's taken well over 6 months to get a somewhat working version of Android on the Rhodium, and that's with many capable developers and one of the most popular smartphones sold in a while. I'm somewhat doubtful that Android will be ported to your device, so I'll guess that you'll never get and Android port, let alone a flashable version.
It has more to do with the phone only having 48MB of internal NAND.
Hey guys, I just moved to android nd i wanna root my Desire S. The problem is that its S-On. Also, i can't seem to find anythng particular about rooting. I ws able to jailbreak my iPod for the first time in 1/2 an hour wid the help of Redmondpie and a youtube channel. So, r there any good sites which have (noob friendly) rooting guides? Is there any youtube channel i shud subscribe to? Thanks !
have u even looked at this forum? why are there 100 posts with rooting about s-on? easy: it's not possible.
get a xtc clip if u want to root, beside that there is no way (yet)
@Blezz is completely right at least search and read before asking, otherwise the forum just gets polluted with the same question over and over....
anyway, for your answer, read this thread

I feel that the root of desire htc s is not a priority for developers and hackers.Dommage for their owners.
well time will show, i am sure sometime there will come the right romleak from our hero 911sniper
Historically HTC android phones always had the best rooting support and dev community. But this year HTC changed their policy and decided to start encrypting their boot loaders. So its a complete change in philosophy and quite honestly I think this is a very bad decision by HTC. They may alienate their user base.
Look at the new Samsung galaxy s2, comes with an unlocked boot loader. Tides could be shifting, that's for sure.

Definitely I am deeply disappointed with the desire s hardware, when you come out with a next generation phone users expect a next step up like the galaxy s2. HTC will lose out to Samsung and so. Even Sony Ericsson that I dislike before are making the right moves I should have gotten a SE arc or waited for the neo.

I am also disapointed by HTC's decision to lock Android OS. It does not allow me to use many usefull applications from Andriod market and restricts the basic functionality, such as taking screenshots and making backup. I would prefer to know it before buying the phone from HTC.
As to the rooting, I am afraid that the system upgrades come nowadays over air providing not enough information on the security unlocking. What do you think?
For now its imposible to S-Off Desire S without XTC clip...
But time will change everythings dude
For me DS is enough without root

wouldn't be too sure if time will change it
we would need a android 2.4 update for it, cause a 2.3.4 update would be so small that i don't think htc would use a engineering bootloader to develop it

Yes
Is there a statement from htc IF and WHEN the DesireS WILL be updated to 2.3.4?
(For the htchero the 2.1 updates came 8(!) month later than the official google update...)
there isn't, but i think the desire s will get the 2.3.4 update cause it's only small jump from 2.3.3 to 2.3.4 and 2.3.4 is supporting front camera so it would be in htc's marketing sense
need root access pliz
GUYS, RELAX !!!!!!! I wasn't asking for Desire S rooting guides, just rooting guides in general, so if you know any sites where i can learn about flashing roms and kernels and about other stuff, (again, NOT FOR DESIRE S BUT IN GENERAL) do post them here. I forgot that i even posted this thread. An email reminded me
well the main page for rooting is... well.. u tried xda-developers.com ? seriously, rooting is device specific, not every rooting program works for every device, so you have to look here yourself for the devices u are interested, or look at the general android forum here at tools like OneClickRoot or Visionary etc. which work for some devices but also not for all
Hello XDA!
I wondered if anyone could provide me with a System.img of any MIUI v4 ROM so I could use it in a AVD? All MIUI downloads I found high and low on XDA and elsewhere are in .zip format and I currently lack a Android handset to create one myself easily :/ Or is there maybe a way to convert a zipped ROM to a system.img with the help of a PC? I have access to Linux aswell if that should matter.
Thanks in advance for any help!
And let me add a bit of back-story as to why I want to even do this for anyone interested:
I have been interested in Android ever since it was released and had a G1 and HTC Desire in the past however since I'm very fickle about GUIs and visual design and in that department Android wasn't my cup of tea sadly so I sold the phones again. Though I have been following the developments of MIUI very closely and I'm genuinely impressed by the massive advancements they continuously make. And with my phone contract up for renewal in April and the iPhone 5 looking worse and worse to me with each passing day I read things about it I am looking to take the plunge to one of the Samsung devices for real once I renew.
Though this time I don't want to buy a device first and regret it later so I thought of sitting down and familiarize myself with MIUI v4 beforehand in a AVD which I already have setup and running fine, I just need MIUI running there so hopefully someone can help me out!^^
Hi guys, I'm a bit of a newbie to both xda and android development, but this is actually my first android device received second-hand from my dad. I've been able to get around and flash Hellfire Sandwich 1.9, which is what I've been on for a while, but I just wanted to move on to a more recent android version. I also planned to improve my phone so that it can play games more efficiently and perform better overall.
Of course, the problem is that the support for this phone is dead because of Cyanogenmod giving up on this device as well, along with the fact that it's been 5 years since the phone was released. So I was just wondering if there was some sort of trick to convert the G2x into an O2x, allowing me to download some roms and stuff to help this seriously old device and get the most out of it. Any help is appreciated, thanks.
I was wondering if you guys have any idea if this will be possible in the future... I love the idea of getting KDE or at least ubuntu in the XZ. I read the treads but non of them refers to this matter. Obviously you need to root, meaning most likely downgrade to android 6 if I am not mistaken. thanks for your time
clearly interested in the proposal
Hi...
I'm taking this idea seriously at the moment. I hear sailfish os can be flashed on sony xperia z.
rooting the phone is hard enough as it is according to the experts.
I'll look into rooting to begin with...shouldn't be too difficult, but lets face it, it is....
updates soon....
