My cellphone is not showing the message "app example has stopped" when some application crashes, why?
In any android devices when some application stops working or does not respond, a message appears saying "app example has stopped working" or "app example is not responding", right?
But in my device, when I open an app that won't probably work, for example, it should show the dialog box saying the app stopped working, then I would click OK and keep using my phone normally - but this dialog box is not appearing and I don't know why.
The unique solution for this is restarting the phone when the application crashes. In addition, my phone breaks the screen but continues vibrating [when I hold the power button, for example] and lighting the buttons [menu and back].
If this dialog box appeared, I would click OK and normally keep using the phone without having to restart.
It will benefit you greatly to inform the viewers of this as to what your 'device' actually is, as that will save some time (I can't sleep so mines currently free. Nonetheless, I am thinking it, whatever it is, is in dire need of a factory reset. I'm sure if you clicked on the search button (at the top >> search plus) and typed your device model into the search box, you may find your current issue(s) or at the very least, the method you will need to backup and reset it.
Good luck

Hi all,
I recently tried changing the wallpaper on my phone from a live background to regular image. The background went black and the phone froze.
I removed the battery and restarted the phone but it now often freezes on the LG logo. When it does occasionally start up the touch screen will not respond so I cannot get past my lock pattern. If I press the stand by button at the top of the phone, the screen goes off and cannot be turned on again, but the phone is still running - as I can tell this when connected to the computer.
I don't have my phone rooted and do not know much about that. I was hoping there was a way to fix this without having to lose all of my data or root/mod my phone. Otherwise I would be happy just to have my phone working.
Can anyone please help with this problem or tell me why the touch screen will not respond the times it does start up?
Cheers
UPDATE - I started the phone holding the volume button down and went into the recovery mode. I'm not sure exactly which option I then selected, as I hit the home key a couple of times, but I think it was "Clear cache and recovery" or something similar.
The phone managed to start back up with all my apps and photos, etc. Although I had to go through the startup wizard again and sign into the Market, LG World, etc.
Now I have a problem with quite a few of my apps. Whenever I click on them, they start very briefly and then I get the message "The application had stopped unexpectedly. Please try again" and have to force close. This happens with apps such as Adobe Reader, GTA 3 and Viber, so it's not a specific type of app.
I also noticed with the few apps that work, data is missing from some and not others. For example, I still have high scores in one game, but not in another.
Does anyone know what the problem is here or why this recovery is maybe causing this?
Thanks very much
Still haven't fixed this problem if anyone could please help. Most of the apps before the recovery still force close upon starting.
Some of these can be fixed temporarily by moving to phone/SD depending on location, but this only lasts for so long, before I have to move again. Others will open up each time as though it's the first opening of the app, e.g. Do you accept....
Apps downloaded after the recovery seem to work fine.
Any suggestions people?
Ok, first things first.
I'm from Brazil and I have an android phone. It's a LG L40 (tri chip and tv) and I THINK it's 4.2.2, NOT ROOTED. I have learn with my friends something called "Developer settings" (or something like this, my phone is portuguese).
Then I go to this menu and I clicked something I don't remember. I just know the phone shows up a windows "Attention, blah blah blah" and I press ok then another window appears, but that was the "Shutting Down" window. Then the phone turns black and then turns on. Then a window appears saying "Optimizing apps. 0 of 137 apps". After that the phone just appeared a lot of error windows. Like "unfortunately, videos has stopped", "unfortunately, this has stopped", "unfortunately, that has stopped". And there was just the ok button. But the last message was "unfortunately, com.android.systemui has stopped". No matter how much times I click ok, this windows pops up. I can't go to settings because the system doesn't started yet, I mean, it stopped. Behind that the screen is black.
I also tried to hold lock + up + down. The system boot and the optimizing starts again.
I have downloaded SDK but I will se what can I do with it, but I know that I have to plug the phone with USB on pc. Unfortunately, the device doesnt appear on windows explorer. Only in computer management.
Please, for God's sake, help me. I'm tired about this. This really destroied my day.
Sorry for my bad english

Hi, thank you for using XDA assist.
There is a general forum for android here https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help where you can get better help and support if you try to ask over there.
Good luck.
Hi,
I've searched through the forums for this problem, but didn't see anything to help - sorry if I am repeating something I have missed.
The problem I'm having is I keep getting the "Unfortunately, the process com.android.systemui has stopped." error message when I try to restart my phone (it was not plugged in overnight and this morning my screen was a red triangle with an exclamation point in it). I took it to the ATT device support center near me and she couldn't figure it out so then I came home and got on with an HTC tech support. Tech support had me wipe the cache in the android screen (think I held the down volume key while pressing the power button once) as well as trying to reboot and doing a factory reinstall. However, nothing has worked and the message continually comes up, even when I shut the phone down the msg will reappear after a few seconds. Behind the systemui msg, I'm also getting a reinstall Google+ and when I click on ok on that (immediately after hitting OK on the systemui msg), it goes away but then I get a msg "Unfortunately Google+ has stopped working." and the systemui keeps showing up. It is to the point that I can even get anything else on my screen so I can't access settings, nor will it connect to the HTC Sync Manager.
I became suspect of the tech support in that immediately when she looked up my warranty and found out I was no longer covered, she wanted me to ship the phone to them to get a quote to repair it.
Sorry if I'm being such a newb, but I really don't have a clue what I'm doing so any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, there is an app on the phone that I've used for the entire year to track my business mileage and I really have no way to recreate it.
Thanks!

No, I haven't heard anything yet - was giving it some time but doesn't look like I'm going to get a reply.
I have already removed the pay joy app by locking and using wrong pin to factory reset it but, whenever I am online a somewhat kind interface keeps appearing on my screen, ordering me to press "Yes" to initiate a fresh download of the already removed software or "No" to switch off my device abruptly. Pls help me out fellows.##Peace.
I'd like to get this phone into a usable, stable state. Right now, it's useless.
Background: The phone is an unlocked US version I purchased directly from HTC. I had been using it on T-Mobile. In Sept. '19 I got an update to Android Pie. Soon after, NFC payments stopped working. I put the phone on the shelf and switched to a OnePlus phone. I did a factory reset on the U11 and want to set it up for my wife, but it wont fully initialize. Here is what happens...
Power on to HTC logo (static)
Replaced by HTC animated logo with start-up sound
Phone displays WELCOME screen, with a "Let's Go" button.
I press Let's Go and the phone goes to the internet setting screen to enable mobile data and sign on to WiFi
I connect to local WiFi
The Terms of Use are displayed. I select NEXT.
The phone displays:
Just a sec..
Checking for Updates...
Checking info....
Then, a Google sign on screen appears, and immediately is replaced by the "Just a Sec..." screen and a notification window that says "Android Setup has stopped."
I've never done anything more advanced with phones than wiping a cache partition, but am willing to try most anything with this phone at this point. I've nothing to lose, but would love to get it back into service.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I would try the hole process not connecting to WIFI
Also you might try to do a Hard Reset, just be sure to have enough battery
Here how
A hard reset will wipe all data from the device and set everything back to factory settings. Ensure you have backed up your data before proceeding.
Hard Reset From Startup
Turn the phone off by pressing and holding the “Power” button for 3 seconds, then selecting “Power off“.
Press and hold the “Volume Down” button and press release the “Power” button to turn the U11 on.
When the HTC logo appears, release both buttons.
Press “Volume Down” to select “Factory Reset“, then press the “Power” button to choose it.
The device will then restart and the hard reset will be complete.
Hope it helps

Excellent! I bypassed WiFi and everything else, and now I'm looking at a proper home screen! Any other tips or suggestions to get the most out of this device? Maybe getting it back to Oreo, when everything worked? I'm now getting the "Unable to start Camera" error that I've heard a lot of users have had.

Hey ESJ...I have the same issue with my HTCU11 here in Australia. I just posted yesterday to this Q&A session (above yours, sorry, didn't see your post) . I eventually got it to go past this point (don't ask me how). I went back and forth between a factory reset to clearing the cache partition and re-starting and finally it just booted up to the basic HTC screen with the factory installed apps. I have everything backed up, but the problem is, now I can't log in to any Google accounts. It crashes at the log in screen with ""Google Play services has stopped". I read elsehwere that there was aproblem with Chrome and "Android System Webview" and that there's an update to fix this problem, but I can't log into my Google accounts (Acounts, GMail, Play Store, etc) to download the update...I'm stymied. I suspect you have a similar issue? Hopefully an Andorid/Google guru will have a step by step solution, otherwise, I'll just get a new phone....and not an HTC!!!

I was an HTC fan for years, but I am done with them. I'm currently studying the process for downgrading to Oreo on this U11 to see if I can get it revived. That may be your best strategy as well. Good luck, Mate!
