[Completed] Samsung S7 Edge - No Sound - XDA Assist

OK here goes - if someone could help I'd really appreicate it...
Galaxy S7 Edge - light drop resulted in smashed screen. Did a screen/frame replacement myself... which worked a treat.
However have noticed that the loudspeaker now no longer works... So no ringtone, music on media play or alarm etc. Also did the *#o*# speaker test - again no sound on speaker (Receiver test on internal speaker is fine)... just the main external loudspeaker which has packed up.
Wondered if I'd blown/damaged during my screen install/phone drop - so I bought a new loudspeaker - but to no avail, still no sound.
So then I checked both my original & the freshly bought new speaker in both a multimeter and via hooking them up to another phone - BOTH UNITS WORKED! - So at least I know that the speaker units that I'm using are both fine. But put either back into my phone and no sound! ARRRGHHH
Have flashed (via Odin) G935FXXU1BPLB_G935FBTU1BPK3_BTU (v6.0.1 UK) - again no sound. Have additionally since let phone auto-update to 7.0 via OTA update - but again still no sound.
All other functions on phone are perfect (including listening to media/music via headphones).
Looking on web, I see a few people experiencing no sound since screen replacement and or flashing and I have tried the host of suggestions offered - everything from pause music and reboot, reboot with headphones in/out, toggle Power Save mode on/off, toggle Bluetooth on/off, clean out the headphone jack (sound works fine coming through headphone jack BTW just main speaker that wont play anything) and ensured speaker pads are definately contacting the mainboard pins etc.
The only thing I've not been able to yet try is "Emergency Software Recovery and initialization" via Smart Switch as Smart Switch simply freezes whenever I select this option (no follow up pop up window) - though phone is recogniosed.
Anyone else expericence this kind of no sound issue? or know of a sensible (cheap!) solution.
Regards
Mike

Think I've managed to find problem myself - if not solved it... sadly.
Used an old loudspeaker from a long since unused phone - soldered up a couple of wires to the terminals for ease of handling and turned on my phone - ran the speaker test (*#0*#) so continuous sound playing (if not heard!)... touching the wires from the bodged loudspeaker on the main PCB mainboard terminals got nothing, though then grounding one wire elsewhere and hey presto - sound once more from my phone!
So looking like a cold solder on the main PCB mainboard!... Reflowing is beyond me, so I now need to hunt around for a decent company who do PCB repairs!
Not quite the 'Have you tried wiping the cache' fix I was hoping for unfortunately... Not sure if PCB damaged in the drop or in the screen repair - but thought would post findings in case someone with exact same circumstances etc.
Regards
Mike

[Q] Speaker issue

Hello,
as the title implies the speaker of my Asus TF700 (WW version) has some sort of issue. In fact it appears to be broken.
I left the tablet in the keyboard dock with the charger plugged in overnight. After I woke up I wanted to listen to some music and started Poweramp (over the built in speaker). After 5 seconds of playback the music suddenly stopped.
- I muted and unmuted the tablet and still no sound
- Reboot didn't help either
- Changed sound effects in android settings; enabled/disabled Volume+, changed speaker volume increase setting; no luck
- After factory reset + re-flashing CROMI 3.0.3 + 3.0.4 patch stock kernel, fsync enabled I could enjoy... pure silence
The speaker seems to be dead out of the sudden.
However I noticed when I tap gently against the right side of my tablet or against the speaker the sound will eventually appears for 1-2 seconds and vanishes again. The same symptom appears when I plugged in my headphone or whatever external audio system (no problems through headphone jack) for at least 20 minutes and plug it out the sound appears from the speaker for 1-2 seconds and remain silent afterwards.
A short list of the installed things at the time the problem occured:
- unlocked (i got a .30 bootloader, from my understandings it's not possible to create a nvflash backup on that, so there is none...)
- CROMI 3.0.3 + 3.0.4 patch, fysnc disabled
- TF700: Clemsyn 1.5 - 1.8ghz 650GPU Kernel in performance mode
- Volume+: sound effects in android settings were set to Volume+ with speaker volume increase of 15 (other settings in Volume+ were left untouched);
it has been installed about 5 days before the issue occured
- MicroSD card and SD card were plugged in (no Data2SD)
Additional notes:
Bought it 7. Dec on amazon.de, got it 8. Dec and issue occured 29. Dec. Tablet has been traveled at least 2000km during that time and I carried it to almost everywhere I went with very heavy use every day.
It never fell from a high surface.
I also noticed I left my Samsung Galaxy Note on top of the Asus tablet during that night... I must have put that on it while I was half asleep...
Before I sent it in for RMA or to the vendor (dunno which I should prefer...) I want to make sure there isn't anything I can do software wise (I don't plan to open the tablet).
So if you have suggestions what I could do to fix this I'd be quite grateful. If nothing helps I guess it leaves me no choice but to live a while without the Asus TF700.
The fact that tapping the back brings it back means you have a hardware fault.
Personally I'm the kind of person that would pop open the back and try to fix with a soldering iron probably a lose connection or bad solder joint.
Alright so it is a hardware issue...
Well I replaced the headphone jack on the Galaxy Note myself however on this device I'm not brave enough to fix the problem myself.
Will report back once I got it back.

[Q] Headphone jack not working

Hello everyone!
I bought my Nexus 5 a few months ago, then everything was working five. But about a month ago I started to experience some problems with the audio on my phone. I couldn't get any sound except for the ring sound and alarm sound. I did some research and found out I should download an app called soundabout. This changed the audio output or something so that I could get the media audio through the speakers and phone call audio through the earpiece. This worked and I thought I've solved all the problems, but unfortunantly when I tried to listen to some music with my headphones I couldn't get any sound. I tried to change the settings in the app, but nothing worked. Either no sound at all or the sound came through the speakers even though the headphone were plugged in. Today i rooted my phone and installed Cyanogenmod with hope that this would solve the problem. It didn't..
I've done alot of research on the internet, but I really couldn't find someone with this exact same problem. Have anyone experienced the same, or have an idea of what I could do? One option is to send it for repair, but that would take some time so I am looking for another option.. Could it be a hardware issue with the headphone jack, even though it worked at first?
Thanks in advance for replying!
Well first try removing the app. If that doesn't work try a factory reset / factory image restore. If that doesn't work, then it's a hardware problem.

I have done that before and the problem occured before I installed the app. So I guess I have to send it in for repair then. Quite strange that a hardware problem could occur so sudden..
It's not strange at all. Audio ports can take a lot of abuse. I thought mine just started to act up recently. In the end it turned out to be a loose jack on the headphones and not the port itself. I called Google to inquire about the issue before I checked the headphones. Here's a copy of what google tech support sent me for troubleshooting before RMAing it:
Thank you for contacting Google.
If you are having any audio, speaker, or microphone issues with your device, please follow the steps below.
Step 1: If your device is rooted or modified, revert your device to original factory image.
- Troubleshooting steps may not work on rooted/modified devices.

Step 6: While in safe mode, make sure the volume is on.
- Swipe down from the top of the screen with two fingers to pull down the quick settings menu.
- Touch 'Settings'.
- Under 'Device', touch 'Sound'.
- Touch 'Volumes'.
- In 'Volumes', slide all three indicators all the way to the right to make sure all sound is on and at max volume.
- When each slider is adjusted, a sound will be heard.
Step 7: Check if the issue is resolved.
- Play with the volume levels to hear sound.
- Make a test phone call.
- Use Google Now to test your microphone.
If the above 7 steps didn't work, a factory data reset may resolve the issue:

- REPLY TO THIS EMAIL
- CALL us and reference this email and mention you have gone through the troubleshooting steps.
Nexus 5 does not respond to headphone
Tried all those options mentioned above, still no luck. Anybody got new news to make headphone work in Nexus 5? In my case headphone works with SOUNDABOUT app, so I don't think its hardware issue? HELP!!1
Thanks in advance
They take 2 min to replace
So u think its a hardware (Head phone jack) issue?
Be sure the headphone jack is completely inserted
I thought my Nexus 5 headphone jack was broken, so I took off the protective case to be sure it was not preventing the head phone jack from being completely inserted. I noticed that it took some extra effort to get the Jack to click. That did the trick and it works great. I felt pretty stupid because it wasn't the case or jack, it was me not pushing it in all the way.

No speaker or microphone, even after I replaced parts

Hi,
My old Nexus 5 (vanilla 5.1.1 not rooted) is malfunctioning.
There is no sound coming from the speaker in the bottom of the phone and the microphone is not picking up any sound when making a normal call and/or recording a video.
The speaker at the top of the phone however, is working. So I hear people in phone calls, but they do not hear me.
Now to the strange part: If I change to the loud speaker while in a call it's the opposite; I can not hear them but they can hear me.
If I connect headphones into the headphone jack I can hear sound both in calls and in video playback.
So to summarize:
Playing video or music (YouTube, video recording, dialer sounds): No sound
Playing video or music (YouTube, video recording, dialer sounds) with headphones: Sound working
Recording video: No sound recorded
Making a phone call: Sound but no microphone
Making a phone call with loudspeaker on: No sound but microphone working
Making a phone call with handsfree connected: Not tested (I have no headphones with mic).
And what's even more strange is that I just replaced the flex cable with the microphone and charging dock and also the entire speaker with new parts from eBay. And guess what... it's still not working!!!
Flex cable I replaced: http://www.ebay.com/itm/281669874921
Speaker I replaced: http://www.ebay.com/itm/252003488330
Followed this guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPuCmfhzgbg
What now? I really thought the replacement parts would solve this. :crying:
Any help is highly appreciated!

Bump. Nobody?!
Have you tried booting into safe mode and testing the speakers?

No, I will try that. So you think this could be an software issue?

Maybe since replacing the parts didnt work
It's not a software issue. It's a loose flex cable issue. Holy hell this is annoying...
Found this video after an hour seaching: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Af5DvIZwSss
I pressed on the back of the phone where the flex cable connects and voilá; speaker and microphone working again.
Replacing the flex cable didn't solve the issue, very strange. I will now open up the phone again, clean the port on the motherboard with electrical cleaner and see if that solves the problem. If not then I will place something to press down on the connector, just as he did in the video.
It's most likely that the pins on the socket that the flex cable connects to are broken. Because they're so small, it's extremely hard to detect. The first few pins on the top left of the socket carry data for the mic and speaker. Pushing down reconnects the broken pins. Be careful that you don't push too hard, because that could bend them out of alignment permanently, and potentially break other pins.

Headphone port issues on OnePlus One

So, recently I've started having some issues with the headphone port on my OnePlus One:
When headphones (not a headset, no microphone or button) are connected, any media that might be playing will either get paused, or the Google Now voice search will appear. This happens especially often if turning the headphone jack in the port, or if I'm watching a YouTube video (don't think it's a software problem), but I digress. If the headphone jack is being bent even slightly (even from just having one finger resting on it while keeping the device in landscape) the audio will somehow warp. I don't know how to describe it, but basically usually speech either goes completely silent, and background music/audio keeps playing at normal volume, or the speech gets really distant and echoey.
I don't know what's up. I looked around online, and the only thing I could find is that there might be some dirt stuck inside the port. I don't have a can of compressed air at hand, but if needed, I can most likely get one.
The device is the OnePlus One (A0001) and it's running CyanogenOS 13.1 (Android 6.0. 1). It's not rooted.
Thanks in advance

Vehicle Door chime/signal sounds

https://www.hifimax.net/6-95-inch-android-7-1-quad-core-16g-auto-navigation-gps-head-unit-for-bmw-mini-2006-2013.html
Installed that unit with android 8 4gb 32gb option for a 2013 Mini Cooper Countryman S, installation went quite well, fit is great.
I knew that the factory unit was responsible of playing the vehicle chime and indicator sounds, including the blinker turn signal sounds. Before purchasing a wire harness adapter for bmw/mini that makes up for the vehicle chime/indicator sounds, I thought I'd see what solution this head unit had built in.
Unfortunately, the sounds aren't great. The unit has an external speaker that emits the sounds. The speaker is fine, but the only sound that DOES work is the blinke/turning indicator sound which is absolutely terrible. The blinker indicator tone programmed in is a recording of a classic oldschool mechanical electromagnetic relay switch tinging on and off loudly with a *twang*, lol. The length of the sound file is also too long, meaning it takes time for the sound to stop playing after the turning signal has stopped blinking. Door chimes, key/fob dinger doesn't work, vehicle information notification tone doesn't do anything. Something is strange.
The can-bus decoder seems to be built into the unit pulling from the factory wire harness that is pre-wired. I have no idea where these files are stored, if they are on a subsystem rom that's inaccessible or what but it would be very cool to be able to rewrite the audio files to work like factory. I am up to plugging in the factory unit to record all of the factory tones with some high end recording equipment I have to make it right.
Anyone have any leads of where to begin to correct this?
From my reading the CANBUS external box (which has the external speaker attached) is what is generating the sounds so unfortunately they aren't coming from the head unit itself.

I don't believe that is correct as the speaker is just a 2-terminal connector plugging into the back of the LCD panel module (which houses the px5 processor module, most of the computational components. )
I have the exact same setup and am hoping for a fix...the new sounds are awful and I really miss the key and light warnings.
