Hi,
My old Nexus 5 (vanilla 5.1.1 not rooted) is malfunctioning.
There is no sound coming from the speaker in the bottom of the phone and the microphone is not picking up any sound when making a normal call and/or recording a video.
The speaker at the top of the phone however, is working. So I hear people in phone calls, but they do not hear me.
Now to the strange part: If I change to the loud speaker while in a call it's the opposite; I can not hear them but they can hear me.
If I connect headphones into the headphone jack I can hear sound both in calls and in video playback.
So to summarize:
Playing video or music (YouTube, video recording, dialer sounds): No sound
Playing video or music (YouTube, video recording, dialer sounds) with headphones: Sound working
Recording video: No sound recorded
Making a phone call: Sound but no microphone
Making a phone call with loudspeaker on: No sound but microphone working
Making a phone call with handsfree connected: Not tested (I have no headphones with mic).
And what's even more strange is that I just replaced the flex cable with the microphone and charging dock and also the entire speaker with new parts from eBay. And guess what... it's still not working!!!
Flex cable I replaced: http://www.ebay.com/itm/281669874921
Speaker I replaced: http://www.ebay.com/itm/252003488330
Followed this guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPuCmfhzgbg
What now? I really thought the replacement parts would solve this. :crying:
Any help is highly appreciated!

Bump. Nobody?!
Have you tried booting into safe mode and testing the speakers?

No, I will try that. So you think this could be an software issue?

Maybe since replacing the parts didnt work
It's not a software issue. It's a loose flex cable issue. Holy hell this is annoying...
Found this video after an hour seaching: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Af5DvIZwSss
I pressed on the back of the phone where the flex cable connects and voilá; speaker and microphone working again.
Replacing the flex cable didn't solve the issue, very strange. I will now open up the phone again, clean the port on the motherboard with electrical cleaner and see if that solves the problem. If not then I will place something to press down on the connector, just as he did in the video.
It's most likely that the pins on the socket that the flex cable connects to are broken. Because they're so small, it's extremely hard to detect. The first few pins on the top left of the socket carry data for the mic and speaker. Pushing down reconnects the broken pins. Be careful that you don't push too hard, because that could bend them out of alignment permanently, and potentially break other pins.

I am using a MIO701, before few days I tried to use another hands free connected to the internal jack plug and from that time the speaker of the device is silent and I can not hear any sound/music.
When I am connecting the normal hands free I am hearing the sound from the hands free.
When I am receiving a call I am hearing the ring from the rear speaker but when I reply the microphone and the front speaker are silent. However, when I am enabling the rear speaker from the dial up panel as open conversation then the rear speaker and the microphone are working.
I am afraid that when I tried to insert the other hands free I damaged some micro switch inside the jack plug. Something is giving the order to the front speaker and the microphone to be off and to work only the hands free microphone.
To mechanical repair/replace the jack plug is impossible, but maybe I can make a registry adjustment or something else to force the sound from the front speaker and microphone. Can anyone help on this??
Nobody knows anything about registry adjustments to make the sound come out from the back speaker or to by-pass the switch on the jack plug???
I've been quite pleased with the camera in the G2X, but when I record video I can barely hear anything. Is there any way to boost the input level? There's no settings accessible from the camera and I'm not finding anything in the system settings.
The mic is located on the bottom right of the phone, to the right of the micro usb port. Be sure you're not covering it up.
Stock?
I noticed that too when I was on it. I could hear myself just fine, but anything even like 3 feet away was too quiet.
Just talking out of my ass, but I'm guessing it has something to do with noise cancellation.
Yeah, stock. Next step will be to try it with an external mic.
Plugging in an earbud/microphone set from my Samsung made immense difference. Next trick is to figure out whether the earphone port can accommodate a regular microphone input, or if I have to find some sort of signal combiner cable.
So there is no sound in my infuse. I have looked other threads and at least their headphone was working so speaker must have lose contact.
In my case not even headphones, mics, in call sound etc nothing works. Anything related to audio does not work. Headphones get detected, ie when i try to raise volume it suggests high volume can damage ears, but no sound through it.
It happened to me twice before and once it worked after few days, and the second time i twisted my phone a little and sound was back on. Now i tried everything, opened up removed the speaker and reinserted, straightened out the speaker audio pins and all but no result.
So if audio does not work, nothing works not even headphones or incall mic. What might be the problem?
OK here goes - if someone could help I'd really appreicate it...
Galaxy S7 Edge - light drop resulted in smashed screen. Did a screen/frame replacement myself... which worked a treat.
However have noticed that the loudspeaker now no longer works... So no ringtone, music on media play or alarm etc. Also did the *#o*# speaker test - again no sound on speaker (Receiver test on internal speaker is fine)... just the main external loudspeaker which has packed up.
Wondered if I'd blown/damaged during my screen install/phone drop - so I bought a new loudspeaker - but to no avail, still no sound.
So then I checked both my original & the freshly bought new speaker in both a multimeter and via hooking them up to another phone - BOTH UNITS WORKED! - So at least I know that the speaker units that I'm using are both fine. But put either back into my phone and no sound! ARRRGHHH
Have flashed (via Odin) G935FXXU1BPLB_G935FBTU1BPK3_BTU (v6.0.1 UK) - again no sound. Have additionally since let phone auto-update to 7.0 via OTA update - but again still no sound.
All other functions on phone are perfect (including listening to media/music via headphones).
Looking on web, I see a few people experiencing no sound since screen replacement and or flashing and I have tried the host of suggestions offered - everything from pause music and reboot, reboot with headphones in/out, toggle Power Save mode on/off, toggle Bluetooth on/off, clean out the headphone jack (sound works fine coming through headphone jack BTW just main speaker that wont play anything) and ensured speaker pads are definately contacting the mainboard pins etc.
The only thing I've not been able to yet try is "Emergency Software Recovery and initialization" via Smart Switch as Smart Switch simply freezes whenever I select this option (no follow up pop up window) - though phone is recogniosed.
Anyone else expericence this kind of no sound issue? or know of a sensible (cheap!) solution.

Mike
Think I've managed to find problem myself - if not solved it... sadly.
Used an old loudspeaker from a long since unused phone - soldered up a couple of wires to the terminals for ease of handling and turned on my phone - ran the speaker test (*#0*#) so continuous sound playing (if not heard!)... touching the wires from the bodged loudspeaker on the main PCB mainboard terminals got nothing, though then grounding one wire elsewhere and hey presto - sound once more from my phone!
So looking like a cold solder on the main PCB mainboard!... Reflowing is beyond me, so I now need to hunt around for a decent company who do PCB repairs!
Not quite the 'Have you tried wiping the cache' fix I was hoping for unfortunately... Not sure if PCB damaged in the drop or in the screen repair - but thought would post findings in case someone with exact same circumstances etc.

Mike
I'm having a weird problem with the mic on my HTC U11. The past week sometimes when I received a call, other people couldn't listen to me, eventually it's happening on every call.
I also noticed that the voice recording app, and other 3rd party video apps are not recording sound, "Manual Camera DSLR" app does some kind of a loud "click" sound when the record starts and then stops the audio, but if I use the Hi-Res or 3D function on the native camera app the sound is recorded and also if I put the call on speaker the sound is back. I tried to clean the phone but didn't help and did a doing a call to another phone and everything I could hear was total silence like if it was muted, not distorted sound like if the mic was dirty or something blocking it, until I put the call on speaker the sound was "not muted"
Any idea on how could I attempt to fix it?
Thanks.

Restarted, didn't work.
No cover on phone, also sound doesn't sound covered, just 0 sound, not even white noise or interference.
Not connected
Seems clean
Didn't work
No updates
Have been doing more checks... native camera app is also failing, does the same "click" sound and then stops recording audio. Moments ago mic wasn't working on voice recorder, then I plugged the charger and mic started to work.
