No mic audio on call and other apps - HTC U11 Questions & Answers

I'm having a weird problem with the mic on my HTC U11. The past week sometimes when I received a call, other people couldn't listen to me, eventually it's happening on every call.
I also noticed that the voice recording app, and other 3rd party video apps are not recording sound, "Manual Camera DSLR" app does some kind of a loud "click" sound when the record starts and then stops the audio, but if I use the Hi-Res or 3D function on the native camera app the sound is recorded and also if I put the call on speaker the sound is back. I tried to clean the phone but didn't help and did a doing a call to another phone and everything I could hear was total silence like if it was muted, not distorted sound like if the mic was dirty or something blocking it, until I put the call on speaker the sound was "not muted"
Any idea on how could I attempt to fix it?
Thanks.

Hope this 6 easy ways help you fix the issue with HTC:
1. Restart your phone

Restarted, didn't work.
No cover on phone, also sound doesn't sound covered, just 0 sound, not even white noise or interference.
Not connected
Seems clean
Didn't work
No updates
Have been doing more checks... native camera app is also failing, does the same "click" sound and then stops recording audio. Moments ago mic wasn't working on voice recorder, then I plugged the charger and mic started to work.

No audio on calls, no output from earphone socket

I have a problem with an HTC One S. There is no audio (either way) on either incoming or outgoing calls. When an outgoing call is made there is no ringing or any other sound, even when the recipient picks up the call. While the call is in progress neither party can hear anything (even when the phone is put in speakerphone mode).
The microphone on the phone is fine - I can record and playback using the voice recorder app. The external speaker on the phone is also fine - I can play back audio files. There is no audio output from the earphone socket however - e.g. I can be playing back music on the speaker, but when I plug in a headset I hear nothing.
Volume levels in sound settings are all set to the maximum.
The phone issue is not a network problem - the phone is usually on O2, but I tried a Talkmobile SIM and get exactly the same problem (i.e. no audio at all on phone calls).
The only other issue with the phone is difficulty powering it on - I can press and hold the power button for a few seconds and the LEDs on the home/back/menu buttons will flash, but the phone will not power on. After repeated attempts the phone will power up.
Any ideas what might be causing any or all of the above?
Did you tried other headphones?

No speaker or microphone, even after I replaced parts

Hi,
My old Nexus 5 (vanilla 5.1.1 not rooted) is malfunctioning.
There is no sound coming from the speaker in the bottom of the phone and the microphone is not picking up any sound when making a normal call and/or recording a video.
The speaker at the top of the phone however, is working. So I hear people in phone calls, but they do not hear me.
Now to the strange part: If I change to the loud speaker while in a call it's the opposite; I can not hear them but they can hear me.
If I connect headphones into the headphone jack I can hear sound both in calls and in video playback.
So to summarize:
Playing video or music (YouTube, video recording, dialer sounds): No sound
Playing video or music (YouTube, video recording, dialer sounds) with headphones: Sound working
Recording video: No sound recorded
Making a phone call: Sound but no microphone
Making a phone call with loudspeaker on: No sound but microphone working
Making a phone call with handsfree connected: Not tested (I have no headphones with mic).
And what's even more strange is that I just replaced the flex cable with the microphone and charging dock and also the entire speaker with new parts from eBay. And guess what... it's still not working!!!
Flex cable I replaced: http://www.ebay.com/itm/281669874921
Speaker I replaced: http://www.ebay.com/itm/252003488330
Followed this guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPuCmfhzgbg
What now? I really thought the replacement parts would solve this. :crying:
Any help is highly appreciated!

Bump. Nobody?!
Have you tried booting into safe mode and testing the speakers?

No, I will try that. So you think this could be an software issue?

Maybe since replacing the parts didnt work
It's not a software issue. It's a loose flex cable issue. Holy hell this is annoying...
Found this video after an hour seaching: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Af5DvIZwSss
I pressed on the back of the phone where the flex cable connects and voilá; speaker and microphone working again.
Replacing the flex cable didn't solve the issue, very strange. I will now open up the phone again, clean the port on the motherboard with electrical cleaner and see if that solves the problem. If not then I will place something to press down on the connector, just as he did in the video.
It's most likely that the pins on the socket that the flex cable connects to are broken. Because they're so small, it's extremely hard to detect. The first few pins on the top left of the socket carry data for the mic and speaker. Pushing down reconnects the broken pins. Be careful that you don't push too hard, because that could bend them out of alignment permanently, and potentially break other pins.

Lost Mic, Sound in video and voice recorder...

Hi,
A couple of days ago I lost completely my mic during calls. (Other persons can not here me but i can. Even when i speak through speakers they can not here me)
Even the sound with my video's is gone.
But the strange thing is that when i tap my phone when my voice recorder app is on, it will detect the tapping but it will not record anything.
Can anybody help in this matter?
I use a ZP999 rooted, custom rom
update : the voice recorder did record something afterall.
When i put my headset in i can hear it clear.
I did pull out my headset and i now can hear the voice recording through my speakers which before didn't work.
I had some hope now the mic of my phone dialer should work but it didn't.
Can there be something wrong with my headset-input-jack which controls also the mic of my dialer???
Is it possible that my phone "thinks" there is still a headset inside so my mic won't work?
I remember i used some softtouch-pen which had on the other end a "jack"-like the usual headsets. But i remember it didn't fit the wright way.
It could possibely caused the harm.
Any way to override or fix this problem ???
Any help would be welcome.

sound distortion using whatsapp

hi
just got a new xperia 5. The phone has some really bad audio distortion when video calling with Whatsapp or speaker phone voice calls. It sounds like the audio volume is far too high for the speakers causing lots of crackling and distortion. Its as if a speaker is plugged into an amp that is far too powerful for it. Has anyone else experienced this, or got any suggestions on how to fix it? Or do I need to send the phone back.
I've tried turning off dynamic vibration and dolby atmos, but no difference.
The issue only seems to occur with WhatsApp video or voice calls on speaker phone. It doesn't happen for standard GSM calls even on speaker phone or if playing a recorded message or video through whatsapp. Other apps don't seem to have any problems.
In WhatsApp I can kind of fix the problem by turning the volume down by about 30% but then the speaker volume is a bit too quiet.

Microphone and Earpiece stop working after some time

My mic and earpiece speaker stop working and I don't know why.
I reboot the phone and everything is fine. Then suddenly WhatsApp hangs when I try to send a voice message.
If I try to listen to a voice message on my earpiece speaker, nothing comes out of it.
If I open a voice recorder, it either crashes or doesn't record any sound.
Then I have to reboot to get everything working again.
How can I troubleshoot this?
I'm trying to remove microphone access from a few apps, but since the earpiece speaker is also malfunctioning, I don't know if I'm doing the right process.
