Difference between Performance, Smart & Ultra? - Honor 8 Questions & Answers

Might seem fairly obvious but what I actually want to know is what are the settings of each of these?
Do they use different governors? What speeds are they set to? etc etc?
If anyone knows the info would be great to know.

Ok so both performance and smart are interactive but looks like performance target is 1.8ghz and smart is 1.3ghz. Didn't check out ultra yet but guessing that's more killing background data and restricting top end speed.

[Q] Where do you see the difference after OC'ing?

I'm not sure that I can really tell the difference between running at 1.5GHz vs 1.0GHz. I certainly don't notice a difference in normal browing through the menus and screens, nor do I see a difference in app loading. Certainly anything web related would be bottle-necked by the connection.
So other than games, which I don't really play at this point, where are you guys seeing a noticeable difference in performance when you overclock?

With such a powerful device OCing really isn't a necessity at all. Even with the OC kernel I find myself perfectly fine at the stock 1Ghz. I guess it's that just "wow" factor that comes with OCing. All the emulators I've used work just fine at the stock speed. Only benefit, IMO, at this point is for bench marking. But still awesome nonetheless

Overclocking/undervolting the TF700 gpu

Dear XDA people,
Im currently working with Max's V4 RC2 kernel in combination with Cromi-X 4.6.9 (still need to update to the latest), which gives me a pretty smooth working tablet.
Now, im running the cpu at 1900mhz, 1225mV (still testing if i can go lower), and I can adjust speed and voltage nicely with Trickster Mod.
But, I would wan't to crank up the gpu speed (which is currently 666mhz I think?) and have the same "options/settings" available to do so. For example, a rom limitation of 750/800mhz on the gpu, with a variation of voltages to choose from. This way I can get as much gpu power as possible, since i find gaming on the tf700 pretty disappointing in terms of performance (of course a lot of games are not optimized for tegra).
Do you guys know what would be the best possible solution to overclock/adjust the gpu speed+voltage?
Thanks!

I think 666mhz GPU setting is probably reserved for Satans minions. At the moment the only way to control GPU speed is by adjusting the voltage. This is easiest using hunds kernel (3.1 if you have problems with 3.2) and his app. Together, you can crank the GPU all the way up to 775MHz and fry some eggs on the back of your TF700 and waiting for it to go into nuclear meltdown.
I know the gpu runs hot, thats why I want to see what speeds can be achieved with limited voltage. So you‘re saying the only way to change gpu speed is by setting a higher voltage for it? Why is that exactly?

You've posted this in the wrong forum, so it will be deleted, in the mean time there is really no reason to use 1900mhz even less so while gaming. 1700mhz at max (it can go higher but you wont see much change/ if at all in benchmarks/ games but u'll see the difference in battery life)
As for gpu i run 750 mhz but again the difference between 650 - 750 mhz is hardly noticeable, gaming performance isn't great on the tf700, the tf300t doesn't look as good but its noticeably smoother with 3d
Moral of the story the tegra 3 gpu isn't powerful enough for 1920x1200 the tegra 4 wont be much better, the tegra 5 is the interesting one

Yes, that's what I'm saying. Unless you want to learn to create kernels and do all the magical voodoo these wizards do to bring us OC kernels!

I have no idea, been wondering that myself. I even posted the question somewhere about a week ago, but no one enlightened me. I really reccomend using hunds kernel and app though. There is a "gaming" option in his app that works very well, good speed without the ominous red glow of molten metal on your TF700's back panel.

Are you saying increasing gpu voltage will subsequently increase gpu frequency? (i have no idea how it works, ive never bothered to look into it but now im interested) _that or Hunds will know but im guessing if thats the case freq and voltage must be linked in a voltage table but i would have thought freq could be changed independently to voltage

I know the tf700 isnt much of a gaming tablet unfortunately, but then again, why not setting it up so that it runs games as smooth as the hardware will allow ? Every small improvement is an improvement if you ask me.
For 750mhz gpu, what kernel are you using?
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using xda app-developers app
I'm using hundsbuahs latest kernel, the problem with tegra CPUs is thermal throttling, it starts around 72c on a lot of devices (not sure about the tf700) at 1900 you could find worse gaming performance than a lower cpu / GPU clock speed. Its completely up to you, hundsbuahs kernels give users a lot of flexibility as they can push the devices to the limit, I like _that's kernels personally they suited to my usage (what ever that means)

Some reviews question the performance of the exynos model... Have there been samsung software updates addressing the issues? Im also confused as to whether the 8 cores are simultaneously used or not in 5420( HMP feature , or whatever its called),

The Exynos 5420 currently runs as a dual quad-core cpu. Either the four A7 cores are active, or when more performance is needed, the A7s turn off and the four A15 cores get enabled. From what I've read, HMP (having all 8 cores enabled simultaneously) will be enabled with a new kernel.

Apparently Samsung has some optimization work to do, with its octacore processor.

Basically i am getting worried about the exynos version as in reviews there have been reports of stuttering or lag. Can that be mitigated by the user? Has there been any software update seen launch ? What were the changes / improvements, if any?

Do you already have it in hand or is it still being shipped to you? Do you plan to root and debloat it?
Every use case is different but I can't say that I have much to complain about in terms of lag on this device. Maybe chrome but even there with some tweaks things can be improved.
Apparently, it will be shipped tomorrow and will arrive in a couple of more days thereon.. Thanks Any more feedback will be appreciated

You didn't mention your intention to root or not. IMO it will make a difference. Totally understandnot wanting to at first though. Using a third party launcher and adjusting animation scale in developer options helps too.
Between freezing applications in titanium backup and tweaking things using xposed modules or multi window app tweaks I've done so many tweaks to my device I don't know if I could name them all. Throughout it all the tablet performs admirably. I'm no gamer though.

Not rooting at first due to warranty considerations. I guess no samsung updates since launch? Im just wondering whether they are gonna optimize things for exynos etc and support it properly

Yeah my advice would be to not worry too much about benchmarks. Up until now I haven't run any on this device but I did install linpak and quadrant this morning to check. Both results are inconsistent with the article that was linked earlier in this thread. Linpak was consistently over 400 and got as high as 477 (each time claiming inconsistent results in its report) and quadrant showed a very low score of 11,000 or so.
Unless you game heavily though I'm sure things will work out fine for you.

The note pros expos 5420 actually outperforms the snapdragon 800 in cpu
Power. The four in the snapdragon is a bit faster though. All in all the processors are practical equals in performance. The note pro wifi exynos 5420 is powerful enough to run any app or game you can download at high settings (minus those games specifically optimized for the snapdragon or tegra) I am pretty picky with devices and the note pro wife stock is one of the smoothest devices I have ever used. It certainly outperforms any tablet and only barely falls behind its little brother the note 3 in speed. The note 3 is smoother but I think this is due to the lower pixel count on the screen lowering the go load. The note pro wifi version will run emulators better than the snapdragon as well. Rooting will also do a lot for your performance by removing bloatware.

There is really never a safe way to overclock any type of CPU or GPU the max safe setting IS what it is already set at 9 out of 10 times according to most CPU manufacturers IE Intel and AMD. Therefore, I would logically assume that since they recommend NOT going over the recommended settings, because you technically CAN fry out the CPU if not careful at any setting past the max safe setting the CPU is at stock no matter how little the tweak its possible. Not saying it will happen, but just saying its always a risk there is nothing safe when overclocking.

(Exynos)Games have less FPS

So I was playing a game Critical Ops and I invited my friend to play it (he plays on iPhone SE). Most of the time, phone gets 50-60fps with lag spikes every minute or so. But my friend doesn't experience anything like this; he gets 55-60 without any lag spikes. So I've began to wonder if my phone is bad. So we made AnTuTu Benchmark and GeekBench and results were similar (about 130K in AnTuTu and about 5500 multi-core score in GeekBench). After this, I went to supermarket because there was a shop with phones that you can try. So I tried playing with shop's S7 (G930X), and I saw that it was running as same as my friend's iPhone did (55-60 without lag spikes) in the same graphics settings. I installed cpu monitoring app on my phone to see what's happening and I saw that CPU wasn't maxed out. 2 or 3 (I think stronger cores) weren't working. So I thought that they are corrupted or sth. so I did a benchmark with monitoring on and I saw that only then all cores were working(didn't test the S7 that was on shop though). So what it can be? Do I need to root my phone or is the phone itself bad? Please help.

Actually I have exynos S7 G930F variant I use to get lock ups playing Bloons TD 5 but after clearing recents and leaving that game still running it fixed the issue and got full speed no lock ups try clear recents before running games (I'm on superman rom and super kernel with default settings)
Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
Well I play BTD Battles(a little more intensive game than BTD5) and getting no problem, even in 30th round. I clear the recents and use Smart Manager widget to get some free ram before running a game.
I see you are rooted right? Do I really need to root my phone? It's only about 2 weeks old and I worried a little for the warranty but if there's no solution for without root then I will manage to make it at some point.
P.S. I think you are secured from this happening because you have a root and a custom rom and kernel so you can manage everything
Sent from my SM-G930F using XDA-Developers mobile app
Exynos G930F comes to a crawl at level 100+ on BTD5 with so much on screen
Don't forget that you have 4 times more pixel than the iPhone SE.
yea this might be the case but its got better battery life so you give and you get some
If possible, I will try to make a video on the shop's S7 and my s7's performance.
P.S. I wonder if G930X has Snapdragon because I can't find any info about this model in internet. If yes then everything's solved I guess

Then everything's solved in this situation, but another question comes up: why CPU in Exynos version isn't maxed in game Critical Ops? Because if SD version has 4 cores and it works better than in my phone it means that something has to do with cores.
Can it be the game's problem and i need to report this problem?
Sent from my SM-G930F using XDA-Developers mobile app
Possible the game need optimising for 8 cores, but I think the SD S7 has slightly better graphics scores than the Exynos too
Ok so I reported the problem to developers now I need yo wait for their response.

New update rolled out yesterday so I updated and C-ops works pretty smoothly(better!) but still lag spikes.
But now I downloaded Minecraft: Pocket Edition and IT'S NOT 60FPS! It's SOMEWHAT smooth BUT sometimes I see 20-30fps in scenes that aren't showing much of a landscape. And I tried playing HearthStone, NFS:No Limits, GTA:SA and Alto's Adventure (because it was lagging for some people but it works good for me) and I don't see 60FPS from them either. What the hell Samsung. FYI, I tried turning off App power saving in Settings>Battery>App power saving.
P.S. I have read some articles and people said S6 (8 core phone) has worse performance BUT in Marshmallow, not Lollipop so let's hope it will change in Nougat.

Exynos variant has a weaker GPU than Qualcomm so most games will have lower FPS. Exynos does have a stronger CPU and better battery life but that doesn't help out so much with gaming.

But what about iPhone SE then? It has garbage GPU (let's be honest) but CPU is very strong but still performs a little better than my phone. Maybe resolution helps.

I am thinking, should I sell my S7 for another phone? What do you guys think? Do you have any recommendations for another phone?
Sent from my SM-G930F using XDA-Developers mobile app
I wouldn't sell my S7 just because a single game won't reach 60 Fps, sure, the Adreno 530 on the SD Variant is a bit stronger but that doesn't mean the Mali T880 is weak by any means. I'm guessing it must be the software optimization probably because the developers were using an Adreno GPU or a Qualcomm developed gpu. Either way, try tinkering with the settings ( disabling Vsync and anti aliasing ) and see if that would work. You could also try overclocking the GPU if you want.
Goodluck

How to maximize the speed to the max limit?

Hi
I own SM-P900 and using Lineage OS. I would like to boost the cpu and gpu as much as possible. Can someone give me some good numbers for voltages/freqs that I could input in apps like Kernel Adiutor?
thanks
Not sure you can even overclock our CPU. If you could do it, I would be worried about heat issues.
