battery drain? - Huawei Mate 9 Questions & Answers

Hi Guys,
Got my mate 9 first two charge was ok displayed 60hrs, lasted two days. Now it shows only 26 hrs and the Android System shows 19% of overall usage. Nothing runs in the background. Tried restarting several times. Everything is stock.
Any ideas?
Thanks,

Do you still get 2 days with same usage? If yes don't worry about what the battery show.

For first cycles yes but later no i got results as you did. After few cycles i can see only 27h of battery on normal mode. Maybe its 138 bug i dont know but battery drain is higher then 126. I can get only 6 - 7 SOT but on 126 can get 8 and half SOT.

This phone IMO has strange behavior as far as the battery life. I can watch YouTube, browse the web and use the XDA app all day and get 8 hours screen on time. It is strange to me that listening to podcasts while I work, the battery seems to drain at the same rate as if I were watching YouTube. I'm not complaining at all, it just seems strange to me. I am on the 138 build.
Most phones I've had in the past, drain about 5% per hour while listening to podcasts, and this phone seems to be about the same. But as far as screen on time goes, the Mate 9 destroys the competition.

What app are you using? It barely drains on Pocket Casts for me.

I'm using Doggcatcher at the moment. I want to use Pocket Casts but I can't because I listen to a podcast that has a monthly subscription. I tried loading the podcast URL into Pocket Casts and the app does find the podcast, but I can't find where to put my username and password for the podcast. I don't see any advanced options like in Doggcatcher.

I meant to but never did. I think I will today. Thanks for reminding me.

Looks like it's fixed. 67℅ and shows 35 hrs. All I did is put into ultra battery saving and then exit.

JuiceDefender (or similar?)

Two questions:
1) How does the JuiceDefender widget calculate its savings? No WAY it is giving me 3x battery life (which it says at its peak) or even 1.4x (which it says at the lowest)?
2) Are there any similar apps that you guys use to save battery life that still allow for scheduled activating of APN/WiFi so I can get my e-mail/updates/etc.
Thanks!
anyone?

I was gonna say you could just use the Juice Defender widget, which allows you to switch off your APN at will. I use it, quite a nice little widget..
ya but that doesn't let me save battery and get push mail

if you use ultimate juice with juice defender, you can set it to more than 1min every 15 (when apn enabled during time phone is sleep). I have mine set for 5 min every 15, and I'm not seeing any email issues. My N1 went from 7hrs battery life with heavy usage (text, twitter, browsing n a couple calls here n there) to 13 solid since using.
I have to agree with 5 minutes ever 15 as the key. I now get my email just fine, and this thing seriously saves battery life. 300% sounds a bit silly, but 1.5x is definitely in the realm of possibility. Eitherway a worthwhile app

Agreed but I'm confused as to why it is so inaccurate.
I got ultimate juice but it is not letting me get to 5 min for every 15, is there something I am supposed to do differently? It will only let me do 5min for every 30
The free version allows you to switch it to 3 minutes every 15 which is adaquate for me to reliably get gmail and two pops. I have used it on stock, cm and enomther and in all cases it gave me a small but noticable gain on battery life.

How is your N5 Battery Life ?

how is your N5 battery life discussion ? when you turn on everything such as bluetooh on , NFC on, sync on, gps on, and brightness set to either 100% or to auto, I wonder how long is your nexus can get through since you fully charged the phone itself from 5-6am in the morning . can it last till evening 10pm if the whole day you use it for texting , facebook, instagram, chrome with 5 tabs minimum , youtube, mail, reading news, recording video and take a snap from the camera .
a humble experience from all of you will be highly appreciate guys.
p.s = the reason why I making this thread is to compare with how good the battery with moto x.

I should be more specific, I'm talking about ordinary people. The people taking pictures using N5 and comparing it to the iPhone 5S are media outlets who have had prior access to the device (or early access from Google).
And honestly if they DO have the phone then they cannot comment on the battery life because it'll take at least 3-5 days (given a week) for the battery to settle in. Not to mention, you won't be doing your daily things on the phone as you'll be busy setting it up with the apps you've used in the past/transferring data/etc.

Nothing a little Titanium backup can't solve. By the looks of the other threads in the forum some people have had the device for a while... As early as the beginning of October. No point in shooting down someone's thread just because you have nothing to contribute to it.

OT: I know this isn't the right place but...How is the back of the white N5? It get dirty fast? Could it turn yellow as someone said? :s
IT: It should take a week for the battery to stabilize, so the first real impression could come just in some days

Its lovely but so is the black I got both here but prefer the white.
The OS is the biggest change, a lot has changed in kitkat. Different ways to access different things and the app menu is completely different. Battery life I got near 3h 58 with 10 percent left from 82 percent and that's from restoring all my apps and more so I'm kinder hoping we'll reach 5h or a little more. Screen is beautiful but speaker isn't great. Though I'm comparing the speaker to a 5S which is pretty good.

I have nothing to contribute? ...... you can't tell the battery life with having the device for less than a week.
This thread is just as pointless as the threads asking for the best ROM/Kernel or threads asking when TMobile will have N5?
I'm not shooting anyones thread but its just a silly question to ask when the phone was released just a little over 24 hours when only <1% of orders requested has been fulfilled. The only ones with the phones right now are media outlets or the individuals who ordered immediately and live in a close proximity to the point that they can have next-day shipping pretty much.

Insane wakelocks draining battery.

Just got my Nexus 5 after having a Nexus 4 for approximately a year. This is my third or fourth cycle and out of nowhere I'm getting a horrid amount of wakelocks. I usually run Google Now, and have without issue (battery wise) for months and months (at least on my N⁴ running 4.2/.3 AND 4.4). I had Google now on for the first half of the day but it had nearly 80% of battery usage and kept my phone awake relentlessly. Upon shutting it off a few hours ago,I'm still experiencing terrible drain. Can someone give me some insight? I've already rebooted multiple times, cleared cache in Play Services/play store/Google search, etc.
The battery is down to about 30% at 2:30 pm with very little sot (less than an hour) unplugged at 7am at almost 90%. At this point on a regular day I'd have 80% remaining with the same usage on my Nexus 4
Check my screenshots for the bbs stats. These wakelocks are mostly unfamiliar to me.
Thanks in advance for any help.
PS: running latest version of Cataclysm and FK r14.

Between that and and always on Google Now, seems to be most of the problem.
OK Google is a battery hogging gimmick. It has zero real world purpose. Use Nova/Apex/Action Launcher.

Battery is so bad I'm about to go charge up my old Nexus 4 and use that until this issue is sorted out. At least that won't die on me for a while and I can actually use all the gimmicky goodies.
Even shutting off EVERYTHING on this phone (mobile data, sync, low brightness, Google now, location, device manager, OK Google, etc.) does nothing to improve battery longevity.

Try the reverse then?
Have you Google the "event" wake lock?
Have you tried a (what may seem drastic but actually is not) factory reset?

I had similar problems losing at least 5% an hour most of the time, but in the end I returned the phone to google. Maybe I will buy one again later while this gets all sorted.

Ok, did a little research on my phone. Turn off the "ok Google" thing in the Google search bar, just change your language to English UK. That'll get rid of the audio in and a lot if the other stuff.
I think its the new Google search update, I had this issue since the update and uninstalled the updates in the apps section and the problem has gone away.

I just wiped the phone and installed a new ROM and kernel (PSX and Linaro FK 13). Let's see if the problem resolves itself. Will update at the end of today! Thanks everyone for the help but it seems as if Google needs to fix this problem on their end. Me having to constantly wipe/reset/reboot/shut off features/etc. my phone just to get it to function properly is a great annoyance.

Well, the same thing happens with pretty much every 4.4 rom I install on my Nexus 4. The only way I was able to fix this craziness is installing Matrix kernel. I have a feeling its some kind of conflict with superuser. My battery was reporting screen on all the time for some reason. And yes, my locations have been turned off and left on GPS only

Hopefully this will fix it for you. It seemed like from the screen shots the app better battery status or whatever it was you were using to analyze your phones state had a lot of wakelocks itself.
If you still have issues I'd try a different app to analyze the problem tho. I still havn't even bothered to root mine yet I'm hitting around 75% after 20 hrs.
if you use the following in combo w/ greenify it helped me huge on my old phone.

After typing in *#0228# to checkbattery info and clicked quick start at the bottom of the screen my battery instantly dropped from low 30's to 12%. Worried me at first but after charging my battery seemed to have lasted longer than before (possibly just wishful thinking). Anybody else try this? Since I first ran mine @ 23:46 my battery was 96% - a couple of text msgs later and now @ 02:20 my battery is sat at 86% - a definite drop compared to what it was... Also noticed Android OS is eating up the battery more than before, and I haven't changed anything except for running this... Will see how it develops through the night at work and charge it tomorrow and see if there is any noticeable difference or not.

You entered it twice and it's sat @ 16% for 30mins? hmm that is interesting, I'm curious, maybe this is a stock battery calibration system of some kind after all... we'll see the benefit after we've charged it I guess.
but then again, maybe this is a cheeky trick to milk the battery quick for the engineers for some reason or another that they require it...

You're going to have to supply some information from gsam or better battery stats for anyone to help you. It could be anything that is keeping your phone awake

google search would normally be up there, it also includes the launcher plus other things. you use googles launcher dont you? the play store and calandar storage is being used too often.
Did this issue appear in the last weak or so? I'm encountering the same issue, it drives me nuts.
Using same apps as usual, no gaming and still my battery drain is far worse than before. I have even disabled Google Now and Location all together.
Installed GSAM now to analyze the stats, nothing unusual in Android battery stats compared to the stats I had before.
is google play services showing up for you guys?

I wouldn't necessarily say my drain is bad, but yeah google play services did start showing up for me the past two days. I think it might be because of the google search update. Could be from the parking location feature.

It seems weird that my HTC One M8 doesn't have this issue, at least I don't sense it.

the play services showed up on mine as well, 2 or 3 days ago. my phone normally sleeps better than a knocked out baby, but since the play services showed up, i see it wake every few minutes on my battery usage chart(draining some extra battery). been changing my permissions not allowing anything to wake my device, but it still does.

It could be that mine doesn't usually sleep that well that I'm not seeing a huge difference. Speaking of permissions though, I actually made it so G+ can't wake the device because I don't use it, and it still wakes it sometimes.
Try gsam from play store. And if rooted....gsam root companion as well.
Do a full charge, 100 to low....no reboots. Then print a few gsam screens. The main screen, app screen, and in app screen.... Click the drop down and screenshot time held awake and kernel Wakelocks. Also, maybe "screen" screen and radio screen.
I know its a lot, but between all these your issue should show up.
Tho....if you have terrible signal ever while on data....that will crush your battery.
Good luck!!
Yes I have noticed that now my Google play services is right at the top. I might as well try a placebo and do battery calibration. Fingers crossed lol

You're battery calibrates every time you charge it. No need to do anything else.
I'm noticing more than the normal amount of "suddenly my battery is draining" threads. Seems to coincide with the update to Google Search. I also noticed my battery draining itself with nothing being reported in the battery page last night but a reboot put an end to it as usual.
