JuiceDefender (or similar?) - Nexus One Themes and Apps

Two questions:
1) How does the JuiceDefender widget calculate its savings? No WAY it is giving me 3x battery life (which it says at its peak) or even 1.4x (which it says at the lowest)?
2) Are there any similar apps that you guys use to save battery life that still allow for scheduled activating of APN/WiFi so I can get my e-mail/updates/etc.
Thanks!

anyone?

I was gonna say you could just use the Juice Defender widget, which allows you to switch off your APN at will. I use it, quite a nice little widget..

ya but that doesn't let me save battery and get push mail

if you use ultimate juice with juice defender, you can set it to more than 1min every 15 (when apn enabled during time phone is sleep). I have mine set for 5 min every 15, and I'm not seeing any email issues. My N1 went from 7hrs battery life with heavy usage (text, twitter, browsing n a couple calls here n there) to 13 solid since using.

I have to agree with 5 minutes ever 15 as the key. I now get my email just fine, and this thing seriously saves battery life. 300% sounds a bit silly, but 1.5x is definitely in the realm of possibility. Eitherway a worthwhile app

Agreed but I'm confused as to why it is so inaccurate.

I got ultimate juice but it is not letting me get to 5 min for every 15, is there something I am supposed to do differently? It will only let me do 5min for every 30

The free version allows you to switch it to 3 minutes every 15 which is adaquate for me to reliably get gmail and two pops. I have used it on stock, cm and enomther and in all cases it gave me a small but noticable gain on battery life.

Battery life

I'm currently on cm7 and I love the rom. But I seem to get better battery life with the stock rom. Can anyone walk me through on how to optimize the battery life on cm7?
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
first thing first, uninstall any social networking app, because they sync constantly and will run your battery down, if you have live wallpaper enabled, turn it off, keep gps off, and wifi if not in use, turn 4g off if your not actively using it , remove all unnecessary widgets , download an app called setcpu and create some profiles, if not of that works, try a different kernel
I'm on a stock rooted 2.3.5 using Netarchy Kernel. I undervolted using SetCPU and have only one profile. When the screen is off it downclocks to 200mhz. I do have my gps always on. The only thing I sync though is my GMAIL and weather every 4 hours. At the end of the day my phone says it has been unplugged for 17 hours with around 30 percent of the battery remaining.
I just carry a second battery. I want to be able to use the hell out of my phone and still have battery left over, so I just have two. I can have everything sync, brightness up, use GPS, etc

i am a complete ant total noob to this community however, i ran shabbypenguins battery mod/tweak for the NS4G and it seems to be giving me more life out of my battery. from what i understand this started as a single mod and has grown over time to a collection of scripts that are meant to improve battery with a long list of features that work in the background. you need a custom kernel like net's but it's really easy to run. it is in the NS4G development thread.

yeah it does it by applying cpu profiles that slow down the processor depending on the battery level. I'd rather have shorter battery life and more performance, so I just have a second battery. It's an OEM model that I got off eBay for about $10.

What kind of battery life do you get? Could you share your settings, if you're on wifi, etc?
Some of these ROMs are awesome on battery life. I got great battery life with Open Soju. I then switched to kushdeck with the matrix kernel and the battery life was stupendous. The last day I used it my phone was on battery for 18 hours and I still had 49% left with moderate usage. Now I'm running stock 2.3.5 with the matrix kernal and my battery sucks again.

2.3.6 Kills the battery

Have not got around to calling samsung yet after complaining, but find that the battery dies a lot faster than before. I recently uninstalled juice defender to test and will reinstall under the new os to see if that had a effect. Any any ideas or clues to fix it?
Thanks
Did you re-calibrate your battery after the flash? Usually a good ideal, and it usually takes a few days for the took to settle in.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
pretty misleading title.. 2.3.6 has been a big jump up from the older leaks for me. To each their own. I would re-calibrate.
2.3.6 had given me great battery life. I would definitely calibrate your battery either through CWM or the battery calibration app. Almost always after a new flash my battery is horrible until I calibrate.
Another thing may be... I previously had Juice Defender in the past. I found that it seemed to kill my battery faster than without it. The way the android operating system is set it automatically helps save your battery life. Most running applications get moved to the background and are using very close to 0 battery. For anything that I do not want running constantly I use titanium backup and freeze. It works flawlessly.
I do not use anything such as juice defender or auto task killer and get about 44 hours out of my phone overclocked to 1.3 with moderate to high use. Let android do its thing and you will be better off IMO.
Juice defender does help when setup properly. I've gotten over 100 hours of battery life using JD - though I'm still on 2.3.5

Check your battery stats to see if there are any unnecessary programs or tasks that are killing your battery life by running all of the time. Something that you may have had set-up or syncing differently since you updated.
2.3.6 has been giving me great battery life, I am running stock KJ6 with KJ6 Voodoo-kernel, no UV or OC, no "battery saving apps" and I'm getting 12 to 14 hours with heavy use, 30+ hours with light use.
Check this post

And the link on it...it explains how the SGS4G will automatically calibrate the battery under certain conditions, and how to go about it.

I never had a problem with the battery life before. On froyo it usually lasted all day with about 50% left.
On kj6 it lasts all day and about 70% is left at night.
I have no task managers installed and syncing with google, exchange, facebook, weather and couple other services.
How many here use Bluetooth? I usually use it quite a bit, but noticed that the new official kj6 uses an unusual amount of Bluetooth share (my battery life has dropped dramatically as a result).

JuiceDefender profile

Hey everyone, I'm attaching my JuiceDefender profile which you can restore. In order for this to work you need the following:
JuiceDefender ultimate
A kernel that has OC capabilities
Root
On order to restore the file into JuiceDefender, extract the zip file into /sdcard/Download and then open JuiceDefender ultimate and hit restore.
Make sure that you backup your existing backup incase your phone doesn't like my backup. Hopefully this works as I haven't tried it across phones.
Share your results below, I have had pretty good results with this profile, lasts me quite a bit of time.
I'd like to note that prior to installing JuiceDefender, I had globally undervolted by 100mV. This is recommend for everyone who wants to go a bit beyond. Also, I encourage you to share your profiles if you feel they will help others.
What were your battery stats? Mine was at 1.9x batter saved and fluctuated between 1.8-2.1x depending on when my last charge was
After a days work: Off charger at ~9am, texting the GF, Facebook, random calls, moderate internet use, ect... I was still 50% battery
*edit* also running DJ-ICS overclocked at 1.72ghz

Battery Usage

Sup guys,
I was curious to know while actually using your charge how fast does your device drain the battery. I know it can vary depending on what your doing (video streaming etc) but lets use web browsing as a example. Looks like I lose 1 percent every 3 mins. Does this sound normal?

Last time I tried that it messed with my data connection and completely killed it to the point of wiping data...
You should be able to get 2-3hrs of screen on time per charge cycle. This is also dependent on what you are doing when the screen is on, and also how much your phone is doing with the screen off as well.
Which thing messed with ur data? The battery saver? I had that problem with other battery savers (juice defender, battery doctor) but no problem at all with AnTutus battery saver.

I go 100MHz-800MHz conservative, and almost all my apps run smoothly. If something like an intensive game needs more juice i go 1.2GHz and smartassv2. Ondemand is junk don't use it.
EDIT: I just went 12 hours 29 mins from full to completely dead (powered off) with 2 hours 23 mins of screen on, much of that was heavy web browsing (lots of tabs on Opera) and gaming.

Interesting. I run TS1.4 w/ PBJ (no ext4) and I went through a number of settings and I could not get sav2 or sio to be lag free. The combination of ondemand and noop yields the best performance for me. Now if I happen to have 5 or more apps going then RAM becomes and issue and I have to march out w/ task killer.
I also 100/1200 for CPU settings, no volt modification.
Up until the latest google maps update last weekend, I have the sensor thingy killing my battery every few days, and that has seemed to clear up.
I also bought one of those extended batteries from ebay w/ 3500Mah and it is a beast (last 1.5 days easy), however a bad result of that is that it interferes w/ the BT and Wifi reception to the tune of -20db so it makes a marginal connection crap. It looks like the charge antenna is on the right, right next to the battery, and the beast sticking out is messing w/ the signal. I am going to try a few different materials over the battery to see if I can sort it out.
It is almost fearsome how quickly the stock battery drains...I mean if I am out work and going out until 3AM, no way it will last unless I use the beast.

Does it drain much during that 3 hour interval? You could try using an app like CPU Sleeper or SetCPU that allows you to turn off a core when the screen is off.
I love the battery life on Synergy 1.3! I haven't flashed to 1.4 yet, kinda liking where my set-up is right now. I'll probably wait until there's a few of the kinks worked out yet.
But yeah, I charge my phone overnight too...It usually comes off the charger about 8am, and at midnight I still have 50-60%, depending on how my day went...Some days, I only have to charge every other...
Looks like you're using about 12-13mA while idling, I am assuming you had mobile network and wifi off? I'm typically at around 24mA with wifi idling

Nope. Data and wifi on although I have sleep set to never when plugged in. I don't think I have anything set to auto update besides push mail though so it probably slept all night with me
This is standard battery as well. I just added the lean kernel and I am getting even better battery life. This is with mild screen time and 2 hours of pandora. You can see in the screen shot that it was only really awake when I had the pandora running.
Crazy battery life.....anyone have comparisons between this and 1.4? Would be interesting to see if the claims by some is true about the additional drain.....

That's some really smoking battery life! Congratulations, are you using any app or tweak for that?

It's lack of apps honestly. I have nothing auto syncing. I'll sync it when I get in the app. Also using better battery stats showed me an app that was wake locking. The lean kernel and battery saver script I'm sure are helping. No need for an extended battery on this baby.
