Any tip for a more clean userinterface and better costumization options.... i dont wan't animations, flashing, sounds, blinks and all bells and wissels everywhere and no whay to get rid of it.. i want a nice clean android the don't use 80% of battery and perfomance on useless ****.

@parra
You should've bought another device.
There are sounds and animations by default in cyanogenmod too, as on any other smartphone.
Latest cyanogenmod 14.1 (lineageos) doesn't even have support for theming yet.

That's everyone's issue with emui. Use these theme in this thread. Download and change .Zip to .Get then put them in local > theme
Open themes app and apply
Has no effect on location of buttons and layout

The sounds and animations are possible to be disable in every ROM! And they come active by default in every ROM!
So that's a "no-question"
The performance of the device, by default, is very good and you shouldn't have complains on that, specially if you come from an older device.
The battery is also pretty good, normally it lasts me a full day with some heavy use (not a lot of gaming, but there is no phone in the market that lasts long playing games!)
Besides the nice battery, the fast charge is great and very usefull!
But indeed, if you like to try and change ROM's, you bought the wrong device!

wait for emui5, you will love it..

I really think you should've researched your purchase before buying this phone; it sounds like something like the One Plus 3/3T or a Nexus would've suited your tastes more. Or just any device with a really healthy developer community.

Here is what I have to like about EMUI. While it is customized over stock android, it is also optimized very nicely to work with the Kirin processors and not to mention the dual-lens camera. From my experience, it is better than TouchWiz as TouchWiz gets slow as usage increases while EMUI is fantastic so far for me.
The sounds and personalization is in every stock ROM. If you wanted clean android, then you may have to pick Pixel but then again, Google themselves have said they are using a customized version of android in Pixel unlike Nexus. Again, that is a good thing as that helps OEMs (even Google) to optimize for the device.

Three thing I don't like about EMUI 4 is the notification shade, non sensical setting menu and no app drawer.
Luckyly I just got EMUI 5. It has nougat style notification, app drawer option and better setting menu. Last one still bugs me a little as a few setting still hidden under pile of menu.

EMUI 5, saved the day, it a realy nice android phone without the need for unlocking and rooting just to be able to use it. ill stick with the EMUI5 for now and use a samsung s5 and virtual machines in vs to run code. nice to have a phone thats actually a phone for a time and not a android andset thar sometimes can be used for voicecalls like it usualy endsup when tje modding goes overboard.

[Q] Cognition vs. CM6

I've been using Cognition 2.1 and SRE since I got my Captivate. I have to say that I am very pleased with designgears stock rebuilds and they definitely made the user experience of the phone much better.
However, having come from a SE x10a, I never really had the opportunity to run any Cyanogen roms, much less CM6, on a phone meant specifically for Android (I did get it running on my HTC Touch Pro and HD2).
Does anyone have any first hand experience with running CM6 on a "real" Android phone and how does it compare to the current Cognition 2.1.5? Should I be holding my breath for CM6 or are the differences minimal (minus Froyo of course)?
Well, considering Cognition is just sourced together improvements in an all in one package, and Cyanogen mod is re-worked code they aren't even in the same ballpark. If and when CM drops it will be very different from Cognition.
Yeah I've had experience with Cyanogen on a Nexus one, and the speed improvements and big updates that add a lot of features, i used Cognition, and i have a couple gripes. first DG updates too frequently, i hate having to keeping using titanium backup, it literally takes an hour to get all my stuff back the way i want, he updates like everyday i swear. Secondly the updates are really buggy still, i had issues on my phone getting really random errors. Cyan has a ton of developers behind it, it really makes the phone, can't wait for it to be on Captivate.

I'm not sure if I would be willing to give up touch wiz for CM. I really think touch wiz with launcher pro is the way to go. Stock android despite what some really loud people think, is not am improvement over sense and touch wiz. At least not for me.

Hmm well i didn't know for sure, he updates too much, i just stopped after 2.1.1, i hate updating, and flashing, and troubleshooting if something goes wrong haha, i mean Cog is something needed to push development on the Captivate. I mean IMO I'm not a big fan of COG, but its good to know people are working hard on our phone despite all the attention on the Vibrant.

I think it was after 2.1.1 when he started releasing update versions that don't touch /data so leave your apps & settings alone. I do agree though that the releases are too frequent, I'd expect such frequent releases when during the 0.X stage not 2.X.
I'm currently on 2.1.4 and am waiting for 2.1.6 to be released & for other guinea pigs to test it before I upgrade as even just disabling the voodoo lagfix, updating and re-enabling the lag fix is a pain.

Agreed, at least for touchwiz. Not sure about Sense.
Having said that, I understand CM makes changes to stock, so it sounds like it's basically a light skin as well. So not sure if those features are worth it. I love the TW brightness change on notification bar swype. If I knew how to submit ideas to CM, I would submit that. Swiping contacts is very nice too. And of course the notification bar toggles are great.
Launcher pro fixes the rest.
seriously, QQ moar, you're honestly complaining about having too many updates and too much support from the dev community? Look at the other galaxy S forums, they dont even have anything as cool as that, I mean Cognition is just 20 steps rolled into one ROM of what you'll do anyway, stripping many annoying things of the rom out and adding a few patches here and there.. its NOT a vanilla rom, its not anything thats not heavily based on what samsung/ATT put out there.
Its a dude constantly trying to make your phone better, thats hardly a bad thing. You can stick to Cognition 2.1 as i'm doing if you want and just wait for whatever else comes out based on a new samsung/ATT firmware. No one is forcing you to update, read the changelog and if nothing affects you leave your phone as it is.

Yea, I dont mind touchwiz so much. But the one thing I HATE about it is the fact that Samsung did away with the stock Android bluetooth stack and replaced it with one of their own, now we cant use bluetooth game controllers with it.
But other than that, TW with LauncherPro on top of it is pretty good.

I just leave my brightness set to auto. I tried the swiping to change brightness, but didnt like it. One swipe to the left made it go lowest brightness and one swipe to the right made maximum brightness, nothing in between. Thats why I use Auto. But I do love the notification area toggles for Wifi, bluetooth, etc. Just wish they had GPS in there as well like the other phones do.

My MSI Bluetooth GamePad works great. It's the Wii controller that doesn't play well.
I love the development on the Captivate i just don't particularly like all the enhancements that DG has added on the COG ROM. Battery drained like crazy with it. but anyways. yeah TW does have something special about it. some really neat enhancements over that stock experience, i haven't had any experience with Sense but hopefully a ROM will come out soon.
If and when cyan is released for this phone I will swap in a heart beat.
You get a customized light install with all of your favorite mods already installed already. Plus you get updated pushed directly to your phone.
Plus all the stuff that TW has you won't miss.

There is a trick to the brightness slider. In order to keep you from changing brightness accidentally, they made the initial spot you touch a dead zone. What you have to do is if you want the screen to be set somewhere on the lower end of the brightness scale, start swiping on the right side and work your way down. If you want to be on the brighter end of the scale, start all the way to the left and work your way up. If you want to be in the middle, just start at either extreme. It seems complicated at first, but it gets to be second nature really fast.

I'll miss plenty. Also, since samsung doesn't release driver source code, CM to leave the galaxyies behind when 3.0 comes out until (and if) samsung releases or leaks some 3.0 roms.
If I update to Cyanogen (when it comes out) or Cognition will I lose Swype?

is there any way i can have app drawer?

I want to know if there is some sort of way that enables the app drawer on the mate 7.
No root or anything like that , just have a normal app drawer.
thank you

if you want to keep using EMUI as launcher you gotta root your device and flash the modded stock rom that someone here on xda made. I you don't care about it just install another launcher, they all have app drawers.
Idk about the different phone models though

oh ok thnx for the reply , any hint on where can i find the modded official emui ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-7/development/rom-erykinemt7-v1-0-0-mt7-l09-b137sp03-t3044695
this is the rom I meant, it needs unlocked bootloader, didn't test it but it looks like it's working fine.
I haven't flashed any roms on the mate 7 yet so you better not ask me for help.
I think you know about the dangers of flashing roms and stuff like that, so prepare well and be patient, otherwise you can **** up which will cost you a lot of time..
I would rather suggest you to just get a launcher, Emui isn't that great so flashing a to rom only for an app drawer seems useless to me: silly:
You could try App Swap on the play store. This will give you an App drawer via the home button.

I have to disagree with you and I'll explayin you why, please take some time to read that:
A launcher is just a small part of what makes a phone worth buying, not only looking at the fact that you can replace it so easily and also that stock launchers are way worse than custom launcher anyways, but also because this phone offers a lot more than just its launcher.
Take me for example:
I love rooting and testing roms, flash things on my phone and customize it till it's perfect. Still I choose this device, a Huawei which has such a weak modding scene, there are almost no roms while other phones like Samsungs and HTCs or any other brand with so many great roms, so much community support and so on. Still I bought this phone because it has a huge screen which is perfect for me because I love watching videos, series and animes. I could also get a galaxy note, which has all the modding and community stuff I previously mentioned. But they are way more expensive and I don't want to spend too much on a phone because I have other things I need money for. Then why didn't I choose the Huawei P8 Max with an even larger screen and better specs? Because it's too big in my opinion, it's not really comfortable in my everyday life, holding it with one hand is really difficult. Next factor is the look and feel, if I pay hundres of euros for a phone I want it to feel like it's worth the money, and this phone definetly does, it's aluminium, the screen to body ratio is great and the overall looks is fantastic. Then I need much space for all my music because I listen to music where ever I go, and this phone has an sd card slot. I also love the fingerprint scanner, it's way easier and faster than unlocking with an code. And most of the bad things about the phone are the things I don't really care about: camere is not the best, but I only make some photos at parties or some snapshots to send them to my friends, none of that requires a good camera and if it would I would rather spend my money on a real camera and not on a phone. The cpu/gpu is also not the best anymore since you get better specs with the newer and cheaper Huaweis, but since I only do simple things with my phone and only play games which don't need much power (so none of the 3d/realistic games) I am satisfied with this phone. The software isn't the best too but I can live with an older android version, it works just as fine as the newer ones, and I don't really care for the security issues. EMUI also isn't the best software out there, but I replaced my launcher with smart launcher which I've been using for years, and the only thing from EMUI I notice is the notification bar, which works fine. Almost forgot the batterie: 4100 mAh (!), which is huge, the big screen drains some battery of course but by far not enough for this batterie.
Now tell me which phones you know which cover all of my claims? None. There may be some alternatives which are similar to the mate 7, but none of them is better.
I hope you actually read this and change your mind, and if not atleast don't insult people as retards for having different prioritys than you when buying a phone.

That's your opinion, many of us love and are used to an app drawer
In EMUI 3.1 / Lollipop it is possible to hide apps. Once hidden they are placed into a hidden app drawer.
To hide apps, use 2 fingers to pinch out (spread) the screen. The hidden apps drawer should appear where you can then add apps by selecting the add icon. Hidden apps can still be launched from the drawer as normal..
I installed smart launcher pro, chose it as default launcher and it works nice. I also installed Google Now and then set that as default and uninstalled smart launcher. It's only a launcher, not the whole UI for the phone.
The only thing that could be an issue is if there are standard widgets the 3rd party launcher will not use, like the built in message app for instance. I want to root my Mate7 to de-bloat it and I'll use Google Messenger instead.

Marshmallow or Nougut ??

Hi guys:
Just remind,
why we should update to nougut ????
I mean beside the new UI there are no sig. Changes .
Also, doesnt worth losing the root mods and all cool features of our stable marshmallow rom .
The new gui is no improvement but it DOES have some nice new features like downscaling your resolution to save battery and the screen filter.
i do like the new gui.
third party Always on display with double tap
new way of showing notifications in nougat
for me its a big improvement over marshmallow
I'm using NOva launcher so no idea if the launcher itself has changed
I don't mean to hijack the thread as such, I just don't want to start another thread for a similar question!

Stable to a point, it's usable daily, but far from Marshmallow in terms of stability and polish
Things like WhatsApp voice messages have problems with low microphone volume, Camera quality is worse particularly for RAW
Basically you can definitely tell it's unfinished and unoptimised

I've used Google pixel edition2.x on my s7 flat almost a week now and im really loving it. Only problem i have is that i lost snapchat in the change, because of security in snapchat app i cant get around to login. For me it doesnt matter but for others it might.
Did any of y'all get sm-g930v update? If so can one of y'all follow the instructions in this thread to revert back to marshmallow with smart switch, and follow these instructions so all of Verizon s7 users can get an update.zip and get in on the nougat action?
First do this: I think if you took the beta update then go back to MM using smart switch you can install the galaxy beta program app and download the beta update again. Can someone that got accepted into the beta program on verizon try please?
Then follow these instructions to capture the ota update.zip

[Poll][Discussion] MIUI

Hello fellow XDAers,
I am waiting for MIUI 9 to drop so we can pull that into the kitchen and cook. I am going to attempt to work with the new system, I haven't ported anything after Jellybean. So with that, I wanted to see who was on-board to potentially want to try MIUI.
Two things; One - I am not saying I am for sure going to be successful, but I will try. 2; MIUI 9 release date is expected to be end of May or early June 2017.
Feel free to have a discussion of MIUI here, I will also use this thread for small updates in regards to MIUI.
--- Small Post Update ---
MIUI 9 ?
Here is a small list of features to potentially look out for in the new version of MIUI. This is a leap forward into Nougat from MIUI 8.
Multi-window support
Quick-reply from notifications
Optimised dose mode
RAM optimization
Improved data saver
Always-on VPN
Call screening feature
Dual space feature
Dual apps
I have honestly never once run a MIUI ROM. Im not quite the flashaholic i used to be (especially now, as finicky as the v20 seems to be), but i could be game for flashing it a few times to kick the tires, see how it rolls.
Am i to understand that it does not have a home screen/app drawer for stock launcher ala iOS? it does retain androids ability to change launchers?
Is there anything "must see" on MIUI? ...not so much eye candy·· I don't care about bling so much, im all about that utility.

Hello! We have all been there with the flashaholic syndrome. It's a fortunate disease ? the V20 is a unit that is quite more finicky than most, but surely not the worst.
Initially, this will be a project starting off with the 918 and working into other variants as I relearn Android and what the new systems look like. It is a launcher that emulates that of an iOS landscape. Yes, you still have all of the ability of changing launches, etc. Must "see" would be animations, style, small 'functionality' pieces like that of the battery bar rather than a battery icon and so on.
It's more or less a eye candy piece of OS rather than something slim, although it is still smaller than a factory image. More "bloated" than a aosp rom but still functions greatly under the right environment.

I'm excited to hear that, good news for our v20 , thanks on avance bro ???
I have attempted MIUI 8 but there are too many differences in the framework(MM vs N) to patch correctly. I was going to patch 9 in once it releases but if you want it you can have it.
Last time I had miui is when i ported it to the skyrocket in the jellybean era. Would love to see it again. Back when porting ROMs was simple

Collaboration is better when its on big projects. something like miui wont need a collab. Now if you do get stuck then sure ill certainly help.
Would love to have someone seriously try to get a stable Miui going. Ran it back in my old Droid X days and really enjoyed it. Good luck and I hope you can do it.

From the skyrocket era the camera was the biggest pain in the ass. Now its everything but the camera thats a pain in the ass.
Added some minor information to OP about Miui 9 itself.
I've offered testing to me2151 and I'll offer it to you too. If you need a guinea pig for testing purposes I can help out

Why custom Rom for Oneplus 6???

Hello Mates,
i flash since many year custom roms to my androind phones. Now i have a Oneplus 6 and it is o fast and have a good battery life.
Why should i flash a custom Rom to my Oneplus 6? I would like to know your opinion….
Thank you in Advance

For the same reason as on different devices. Even though OOS is probably one of the best Android flavours, there are many more UI/Performance/Battery tweaks on Havoc for example, which is probably the best custom ROM right now. If you don't want always-on-display, advanced UI tweaking, or you don't need extra features like Smart Pixels, different kind of navbars and recents layouts, you should probably stay with OOS.
They way we interact with our phone is kind of just personal preference. Different ROMs have different layouts/options. I like how when you go to recent apps with OmniTreskmod it also displays recent apps that you can quick launch.

That has nothing to do with omni treskmod though. It can be found on almost all custom roms, including Havoc OS.

My point is that we use custom ROMs to interact with our phone in different ways, and that the ROM we choose is personal preference.
With that said I've tried 4 different ROMs, Havoc included, and I didn't experience the recent/home/appdrawer interaction like treskmod uses. It's the only ROM i love to use the android pill navigation gesture with.

I get what you are trying to say, but could you show me what exactly you meant by recents app drawer, I just don't know what you mean by this at this point.

Pixel Experience is awesome too, regarding pill navigation !
It's my favourite, just because it's a different experience, and, to answer the OP, this is why you flash ROMs AOSP ROMs can be quite similar to one another, this one stands up from the crowd in my eyes, and it's still balzingly fast, with battery backup similar to OOS, and Pixel 3 features, love it.
In the end, i fully agree : You flash ROMs based on personal taste, to get the experience you want from your device. Be it having tons of options, performance, or something different.
Can't wait for Paranoid Android though ... Last time i used it, they were inventing Heads-Up notifications, floating windows, and Card Style recents, before Google even thought of it ... And i miss Halo, this was so ahead of it's time, just like Pie Gestures

Hopefully these photos are clear, but the recent apps screen is combined with the app drawer and it's awesome.
Sorry to hijack your thread op.

@Gionikva is right haha, this is not specific to Treskmod, it's related to the fact it has Pixel Launcher installed as the main launcher
Pixel Experience is the same, LineageOS can be too, any ROM in fact !
But I'll agree this is awesome, and above all it's how these gestures are supposed to be used.

I use to think the same way. After flashing AOSiP I regretted not flashing a custom ROM earlier.
There is far more customizations that can be done to your phone in terms of theming and functionality. For example I can now finally long press my volume key to play the next track for a song.
Overall look and feel of the phone software is much more sleek. Animations are much smoother and it feels very polished as if I'm using a pixel. Latency appears to be great as well but I'm not the best at calculating such.
Battery life use to be bad on custom ROMs but now they're all just as good as OOS if not better. In my case it was better. I use to sometimes be at 75% left with only one hour SoT. Now I can be at almost 2 hours at that point. Same kernel on both.
Overall for me personally it completely enhanced every little thing about the phone. It's no different than what it was back in the day when it comes to reasons. Although OOS is pretty dark good as it is, not to knock it down from this post.

I've tried Pixel experience ROM and it didn't behave this way. I've also tried the xXxNoLimits ROM with Pixel Launcher enabled by default, and it also didn't have this. They both had their "recent menu" identical to stock OOS. Do I have to enable some setting? I would like to use this feature on other ROMs!

Strange, Pixel Experience behaves like, well, a Pixel phone ! It always had and still has the drawer integrated into the recents screen.
About xXx, it's normal. The launcher needs to also be the recents provider for the system, so either it's the system main launcher, or you can use a Magisk module to change this.

I use AOSiP also known as Android Illusion Project. It's not the most feature rich but it's very fluid and I see no reason to jump off of it for now.

Ok, thank you for your answer
When I bought the phone, I was very happy with it, because stock OOS is smooth and stable. So I just flashed magisk. After a few months I missed the features which custom rom brings, but I also wanted good camera and battery life. That's why I tried almost all ROMs and Ports for the OP6 and now I'm back to treskmod. This is definitely the best ROM in my eyes. It's very stable and smooth and battery friendly. It has the costumizations I wanted and looks like Stock Pixel. There is one update per week and that's cool. I'm a flashaholic and need at least one update in week, lol ^^
