Video won't record - Huawei Mate 9 Questions & Answers

First day with the phone and I can't get video to record. It flashes for a second and ends up going back to the record button, leaving no video recorded. I've tried internal storage and external SD.
Any ideas?

I backed up my apps, did a restore to factory and I can now record video. Weird, but it works! The Huawei backup/restore works great btw.

I had this problem too initially. It went away after a few days (prob after a restart) and now it records fine

What model do you have? Is it rebranded?

I have Lon-L29 direct from wonda mobile, not rebranded no

This is happening again.. I can't record video. Model: MHA-L29 running B138

3rd party apps can record video okay. I guess that'll be my work around. -Any suggestions on video recording apps form the play store?

Try clearing data for camera app in apps settings.

Had same problem. Video would record in safe mode, but not in normal mode. Today I tried to force stop one app after the other. When I stopped the app: "Shush" (app to automatically restart phone volume after a settable period of time), video started recording again! Hope it lasts.

Yes, reason of this problem is shush app. i removed it, my camera is recording video.

Thanks! I had the same problem with my Huawei M3 Mediapad (MIUI 5.0.1). In my case it was the AudioManager app (also related to audio settings) which was causing the issue. Once stopped, the video camera worked fine.

Amazing! The shush app was the culprit! It's a shame because Its a really useful tool. I'd rather have a working camera though! Thanks for the fix!

Thank you for the Shush, tip. I was experiencing the issue on a Huawei P20. It seems that you can have both working.
What you have to do is go to the Shush app in your Apps in settings and enable the permission for Shush to access the camera. This is also mentioned in the latest change log for the shush app.
After enabling the Camera permission for Shush, the video was working as expected.
Hope this helps.

I hadthe same problem. After deleting the app Phone silencer, video recording starting working normally.
---------- Post added at 09:54 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:25 PM ----------
Reinstalled the same app Phone silencer (strange because the app is so simple it doesn't ask for any permission) and now everything works just fine. I need Phone silencer app since I use it every day 'cause of work. Hope it won' t bug any more.

IF you have any Apps for restoring ringtone after meetings etc., like "Shush" or "Silent Mode+", that's the reason.
I didn't bother testing this with "Silent Mode+" but if you give "Shush" access to Camera (so it can see if it is running or not) Video recording starts working again.

Music bug since the update of 5.1.1

Everytime when I turn off my screen while listening with headphones on or off, my music disrupts after a period of 6 seconds.
Now I have tried a various things to fix it, and strangely enough disabling the lock screen (any type of security ) fixes this issue)
Might any of you know a better alternative to make my life easier? I don't want to leave my phone insecured for the sake of listening to music.
Thank you.

Reflash with stock 5.1.1 ROM via odin.
Have you (TS) tried the solution provided above? I'm experiencing the bug as well. It's really irritating.
I managed to fix the problem by clearing the system cache. Just boot into odin, clear the cache and restart the phone.
(I didn't reflash the stock rom)

Thanks for the reply. When you mean boot into odin, did you mean recovery? I have done that as well, but it seems that it didn't fix the problem for me.
To add another solution to this bug, I downloaded and flashed the stock ROM for my phone. Apparently, it fixed the bug.
Yes that's what I meant, sorry for the confusion. I might as well do the same. Thanks for the heads up !

Heya, sorry to bring this topic back again to life. Apparently, the fix was only temporary. The bug reappeared after a few hours. I might try a clean install just to see if this gets fixed.
Edit: My device model number is SM-G920F

Do you have greenify installed and have the music app set to greenify? Also are you using the built in close app feature? The one found in battery stats. If so do you have the app set to auto kill? This feature kills all selected apps after a certain time of the screen being turned off.

I haven't installed Greenify yet on my S6. I had it on my S4, but it wasn't causing any problems at all. I checked the close app feature, and Music app wasn't placed there. The Music app crashes, it doesn't just close; without any warning message or whatever.
Update: I did a factory reset/data wipe via recovery mode, and used Odin to install a fresh 5.1.1. I tried the Music app, and it doesn't crash. I hope it wouldn't crash anymore.

Did the fresh install fixed the problem completely? I have it as well and it's super annoying, it will be super annoying to have to download my apps again but i will if it fixes the problem.

Unfortunately, it did not. To be exact, it fixed the problem for about a week, but the problem appeared again. Try using Power Amp music player, it's working well for me. I'm tempted to buy the full version after this trail version expires. Spending 1$ would be way better than getting annoyed all the time by the default music player.

Has happened here twice. Had to reboot to fix it. My worry is that this could happen during the night so that the phone won't wake me up in the morning (the alarms don't sound either - in fact no sound at all can be played, be it from ringer, notifications, Spotify or YouTube).
Hasn't occurred now for three days, but I've rebooted each day due to separate issue which involves not notifications not being received unless I open the app (happens in Facebook Messenger and Signal).

Was able to find out the cause... Was the hike app intefering with system sounds.
Once notifications start coming up without sound, clear away the hike app from recents.. should fix the issue... Atleast it did for me
I'm noticing the exact same issue. Sitting here WATCHING my phone ring and making no sound. What exactly is the "hike" app? Is that something you've installed or is it a native app? I don't think I have that on my phone so I'm looking for a solution.

Its a third party app like WhatsApp... I'm certain the issue you are facing is due to a third party app... Next time the sound stops, try clearing your recent apps... And see if that fixes the issue ...

I am also running into this issue. Im still in the process of uninstalling apps one by one to narrow it down if it is an app thats causing it. Has anyone pin pointed what is causing this? Im almost ready to factory reset the phone and add the apps back one by one but I would rather not spend the time.

I had that same issue with certain apps. For me though, I didn't realize the extent of Data Saver and had to allow Gmail and whatnot to have unrestricted access and then they started popping in right away.
You wouldn't happen to use Data Saver on your phone?
Just a thought
Cheers!
I appear to have this issue however, safe mode, factory resetting, etc does not fix it. I do not get notification/phone/music sounds.
This issue is still there even after the 8.1 update... Anyone got it fixed?
For me the notifications won't make any sounds, they pop up but silently. I tried playing some music and the speaker works, I also didn't have any issue with alarms. Just notifications.

I have a Nexus 6P and my wife has a Pixel XL and we were both having the same issue with 8.1, no notification sound with text messages and call ring tone. I did most of the suggestions that I have found online (factory reset, clear cache/data in messaging app, change sound) but none of them worked. I was about to downgrade to 8.0 but I saw that both of the apps (messages and phone) were being "optimized". I disabled battery optimization on messages and phone, rebooted and so far it seems to have fixed it. My only guess is that they optimized those apps a little too much. Good luck.
Settings > Apps and Notifications > Messages > Battery > Battery optimization

I also noticed the issue on v8.1 that I flashed a few days ago. Thought it would have been fixed by now. Ended up downgrading to v7.1.2 again to fix the issue.
Oreo is NOT ready for prime time in my opinion.

It happens on wifi at home, 4G or wifi at work.
If I reboot, it's works fine but then the problem comes back a few hours/days later.

I know it's a bug and also HTC knows.
Wipe cache every time lag come back.
No other way by now brother
I've found the cause.
It's the USB Audio Player Pro app.
App un installed, rebooted the phone and the problem is now gone.
I have the same problem. Update from Nougat to latest oreo didnt fix problem.
Reboot helps but not for a long time.
Remove video apps and install mxplayer. If you don't use boost+ it's a good app by htc!.
I've had the lag off and on too. Last week I cleared the cache partition and so far it has not returned.

Not had that issue on mine. Did you set up your Note 20 Ultra from scratch? If you imported data from another phone that could be the culprit, a FDR might fix it. In the mean time go to setting>apps>camera>clear the cache and data and reboot.
Nah I never do the backup
Try a hard reboot and clear System Cache on boot menu.
An easy fix if it works.

Try clearing data on the cam app if it continues.
Make sure Bixby Vision and Bixby Vision Framework are enabled. The cam needs these 2 Bixby apks for full functionality although the rest of Bixby can be disabled.

After OTA video/music stops

Hi,
I've just updated my KB2003 to 11.0.6.8 and I've noticed that video and/or audio playback pauses for a second and then plays back for maybe 3-4 sec and again it pauses. The issue is present in every app.
I've cleared cache after update. Any solution?
same happens to me, I believe Dolby atmos is the issue it keeps crashing and wont let me turn it off even.
problem on both wired and wireless headphone

I can confirm kb2003 11.0.6.8 lag lag!!! Video online and offline, notifications, unlocking, with lag every 3 - 4 seconds.
Seen a lot of posts about this on the official oneplus forum.
Some claim that the answer fixed it self after a few hours and someone just posted
" Recorded myself on voice recorder, played it back, phone now behaves normaly !!"
" I restarted.. bug again.. i take a video with the phone... Then kill the photo app... No more bug "
"WORKAROUND: audio/video playback works witout interruption if battery saver is activated. "
Someone said a factory reset fixed it. But I guess most people want to avoid that.
No idea if it works or not. I haven't received the OTA yet. Eventhough I planned to download it with oxygen updater, but now I am waiting a bit until I get more info about this error.
