I was just wondering if anyone might have a compilation of links for a beginner like myself.
I have an lg v20 and a pumpkin rk3188 HU I bought last month. Having lots of issues with tethering and also slug-like loading.
I'd like to learn how to customize both of these devices to run much smoother, look better and also gain more control and knowledge over all with these devices.
I appreciate any positive feedback, thank you in advance.
I'm excited to have better sound, access to more of my technology and most of all customize my gadgets while learning to do things many people can't do.

Hello,
You may start with rooting your device and gaining control over the system. https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/development/h918-recowvery-unlock-v20-root-shell-t3490594
Please read the thread thoroughly.

Hello,
I'm relatively new to the Android community however I'm getting really excited over it. I'm planning on getting the MyTouch 3g (HTC Magic) 32B tomorrow and I'd like to make use of it for something other than entertainment. I'd like to learn how to write applications and maybe even ROMs for android phones.
My main question is if any 'good' developer here would take me as an apprentice. I wouldn't mind doing testing and other menial jobs, however I would like to be taught how to create applications and ROMs alike.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, and for any help or direction given.

Good luck,
Thank you.
Hey guys,
I realize this might not be a correct section but there's not a Q&A section on android as a whole. I've had a G1 since it's release date, and since then am now on a vibrant, so i've experienced Android for a considerable amount of time. Over this time, I've flashed a lot of roms, and used a lot of mods that come through these forums. I'd say I have well above average knowledge on android and how to utilize the devices to their fullest potential over anyone who simply buys a phone and uses it.
That said, I've become interested in taking this passion to a new level and joining app, and maybe even ROM developers in the future. Now I know there's a lot to read on these forums about particular problems and solutions, but I'm looking for direction on where I can find sources to kind of introduce me to app development and explain the Android OS on a much deeper level, whether it be a huge guide, website, whatever. I want to take this head on and not half ass so simply searching through the forums for thousands of things just doesn't seem like the most efficient way to truly understand how everything comes together as a whole on app development. Truthfully, I really don't know any details on the process of signing up etc etc. It's also not like I can look up a class to take (which I would actually prefer) so I can really get a grasp and not have to come crying to these forums every time something tedious gets in my way, ya know?
So any app devs, I'd greatly appreciate any guidance to how you got started. I'm not a total geek by nature so it's not like I really understand things that some people might call common sense about linux/android. Whether you copy and paste a link, or give me some advice, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks guys.
Hi everyone,
I was about to sell my hd2 when i discovered the versatility of the device its great!!
however, after joining this site, i am at a bit of a loss....
i would love to start of with just some themes, but a lot of them require "CHT2" just wondering what that was and how i find out if i have/ how to get it.
also, what is the best and most reliable build of android as i am sure i will want to convert!! (along with the best accompanying guide, on kernels, radios etc) i have heard of darkstone, but i would really appreciate any help.
Any threads any1 can suggest would be much appreciated, and if possible i would really love to upgrade to android 2.3, but is it reliable does the marketplace still work etc. etc
sorry for being such a total newbie
any info much appreciated thanks!!!
Hi and welcome to the forum!
The HD2 is a great device and very popular. There's a huge amount of information HERE in the Leo forum which you'll want to read. I'm pretty sure that anything that can be with that phone has been covered there already.
It would be great having Android on your phone and you can do it, but you may want to explore some of the customization options for WM first. CHT is Cookies Home Tab and it allows for more modding possibilities and gives you more control over the general appearance.
I'd suggest going through any screenshot type threads to see what other people have done with their phones and try to find out what they used to do it.
Good luck and happy modding
Hi All,
I am new to Android and Galaxy Note is my first Android phone. I have been hearing a lot of new terms from friends & colleagues and I wanted help from this community to get set up. One of the many terms that I have heard is rooting the phone and from my Linux knowledge it seems having root access on the phone. I have been successful in playing with root permissions using Superuser, Root Explorer and Titanium Backup. However, I would like to have a way to learn all of this in a structured format. I would like to know the purpose of ODIN and working with it. The implications of CMW and having custom kernels and ROMs installed on my phone.
Could somebody please assist me with links to get started off?
Thanks,
Anupam

Here you go. That is a link to the XDA wiki. That will be able to answer all of your questions. You can find alot of great info throughout the different forums on the site. Just take your time and do alot of exploring and reading before you jump into things. You won't regret it.
hello, i am a new android user and have a stock mt4gs. i am considering rooting and doing more with my phone but i am a little wary. i would consider myself a power user of pc's (win and mac) but i am coming at it from the graphics world so the tech side can really throw me off. after all the reading i have done on rooting i am more wary than when i started. my basic question: is there a resource that can give a very general overview of the rooting/moding processes? i have been all over the XDA site for days now but i seem to end up finding technical guides that answer more specific question about the process or go into details of this patch or that flash but not something that really just gives the A-B-C fundamentals for noobs like me and how to approach it in a somewhat safe and responsible manner.
thx in advance!

Check out the mt4gs forums, specifically the development section. There are step by step guides that will walk you through the process. Any other questions should be directed to the mt4gs q&a section.
Hi,
I've been on this site and forums lots of time to read about all the things people here do with their phones.
I really want to learn more about it, but I have no idea where to start; what is the true definition of ROM, what really happens when you root a phone, what are all the possibilities?
Is there a way I could learn some basics, like a beginners guide? I'm not a complete noob when it comes to technology, so I think with some help I'll be capable of understanding some of it.
I also read a lot about Cynagogenmod. Does that have a lot to do with rooting, or is that a whole different thing? On the other hand I saw that it stopped? I have no idea if it's any use anymore.
Maybe usefull to add: I don't really have to tweak my whole phone or skin. I would be using all the info to get rid of some Chinaphone skins and put on 'normal' Android, if that's possible.
Thanks and sorry to bother you,
Ion Ita

Hello,
You can read here in brief about rooting https://www.xda-developers.com/root/
CyanogenMod is a custom ROM/Firmware. It has nothing to do with root.
