SELinux enforcing vs permissive? - Google Pixel Questions & Answers

I am rooted but SELinux is set to enforcing? Is there a way to change this on the pixel yet or should I even bother?
I am not running a rom yet I just have the twrpRC1.img loaded. So in the future when I flash rom's will they automatically set it how they see fit?

You should stay on enforcing unless an app of some sort such as v4a requires permissive.

Permissive SELinux kernels

Hi. Apps to change SELinux mode to permissive do it too late after boot, so some apps and Xposed modules do not work with lollipop. The only way to make these particular apps to work is to install a custom kernel with SELinux already set to permissive. So I would like to know which custom kernels for lollipop are permissive. I currently use Faux kernel for Kit-Kat, do you know if it's in enforcing or permissive mode for lollipop? Also add the kernels you know. Thanks everyone.

I don't know how to do it. Also, Faux kernel is open source, so there should be a way to edit this parameter only and then compile it, but again, I don't know how to do it

Viper4Android working on Note 5

For those of you that don't know Viper4Android is the probably the best sound mod you can do on any android phone, I can confirm that it works on the Note 5 as my listening experience in the car has greatly improved
Prerequisites
-Must be rooted
-Skyhigh or arter97 kernel flashed
-If no custom kernel is flashed selinux must be set to permissive using the selinux app found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2524485
-Download Viper4Android from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2191223
Steps
1. Download and install this zip through recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/att...achment.php?attachmentid=3470840&d=1442036930 (Credits to Critical Detox for finding it)
2. Launch Viper4Android and install the driver and reboot
2a. I highly recommend using this IRS. http://d-h.st/VBM
That should be it to get it working, S6 users have commented that you have to freeze a couple of apps for it to work but I can confirm that's not the case. If you have any questions or need suggestions feel free to ask

I have had this working on every device, previously the S6 using a flashable zip.
Now I cannot get it to process when clicking on driver status it usually says "yes".
I am using a deodexed tmobile rom with Noble kernel. The SELINUX changer says I am permissive but viper4android doesnt want to work.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Interesting. Are you running in compatible mode, then?
I envy all of you for getting to use Viper, I'm trying my best to hold out until I can try Samsung pay beta/release which ever comes first to me then I'll decide to root only after.
I've been wondering this for a while now. I noticed in the OP, there was a choice to use a custom kernel or stay with the stock one. Obviously, we need root to get Viper working BUT do we really need a custom kernel to root 5.1.1. On the Note 5? I'm asking because BOTH of my cars miss Viper from my Note 4 and I'm hearing the current Kernels are causing a few issues with the Note 5, thanks!

You can root using the Noble Kernel which is pretty much a stock kernel and then use the selinux app to change the kernel to permissive.

Thanks for the reply, Adolfo. Are you having any issues with the Noble Kernel? People are reporting things like battery drain, rebooting and or loss of certain features, Netflix not work, etc. I miss Viper but I would like to know that my phone would be fully functional after root. Also, it seems as if only a few Kernels work with the new firmware that was released yesterday.
Keeps getting more complicated. haha.

While I appreciate the help, Brava, I was responding to Adolfo's recommendation of using the Noble kernel due to it being close to stock. My question was if he's having any issues with that Kernel.
I've used Viper since it's inception so I'm fully aware that it has nothing to do with any of the aforementioned symptoms.
Thanks though.

[APP][ROOT] sRGB Enabler / Disabler for OnePlus 3 CM ROMs

Hello fellow XDA Members!
Here is my simple and clean app, which has the following features:
-Display the current status of sRGB mode.
-Enable or Disable sRGB with one click.
-Enable or Disable sRGB on Boot. ( No init.d kernel support needed )
***ATTENTION*** This application requires ROOT.
***ATTENTION*** This application will only work on CyangenMod based ROMs, which have the sRGB commits merged. Do NOT attempt to install on stock OxygenOS (why would you?), or ROMs without the sRGB commits.
Required Permissions are:
1. Read/Write to storage
2. Receive Boot Complete
3. Vibration
Note: I have not tried it with stock CM root, but I'm assuming it works. Only tested with SuperSU from chainfire.
Download link as well as screenshots are attached below.

[GUIDE][APP]Up To Date Google Camera Port For The 5T 9/7

I decided to start this thread because all the other GCAM port threads aren't up to date ,specially with the increasing number of APKS
so,let's get started
Disclamer
The Camera2api port for our device is buggy as hell not only that but the dual pixel technology libraries are f**** by OnePlus so to overcome that and get both portrait mode working and front camera hdr+
you must be rooted(or at least have a custom recovery)
for non root you can still use HDR+ only for the back camera with lots of dots!
Downloads
A-rooted downloads 1-the lib fix FOR ANDROID 8.1 ONLY
FOR ANDROID 9 PIE OOS 9.0.6 and above
2-Pixel Colours(optional)For OOS 9.0.6 and above you need Pixel Colours v3.0 HERE
B-APK download that's a bit easy
1-New Best Version Urnyx based on GCam 6.2 is excellent thanks Urnyx Download latest here
2-Gcam based on 5.1 Urnyx05 v6.2 for any OS for the 5t oreo and up of course
Settings
-For Gcam based on 5.1 only This one contains the settings I personally use with the current Google camera version Urnyx05 6.2 to get best results after testing many times(you can find yourself better settings anyways).
-the settings are attached as images in the post feel free to test them out.

In my case, using the Lib Fix in the link, doesn't break the stock camera (didn't try any audio mod). But if I update the module from magisk (to the last version), that one is breaking the stock camera.
I am using blu spark kernel. What does it mean to set it to permissive and how do I do that? Any side effects (potentially unwanted) by doing that?

kernel is either enforcing or permissive
hence the name suggests
permissive 'permits' apps from overriding system policies
enforcing enforces system policies
so use permissive when you have an app that requires it only
It theoritically impacts security
specially if you don't know what apps to install or don't get them from a trusted source
Do you know if they have a chance that the app damage my phone ? (OnePlus 5T Android 8.1 OxygenOs 5.1.7)

[GCAM] [MOD] UltraCam v3.2.3 by UltraM8

Hey people,
While I use gcam mod usually by san1ty for pictures and open camera for video(I want to control bitrate and other options)
I just found this gcam mod from UltraM8. It's just like san1ty's but you can use the second back camera!
The only negative is that trying night mode crashes the app, I've send a message to the UltraM8's post and if it fixes that, you can give it a go
What do you think about this?
P.S. also this gcam version has some selection of bitrates for video recording

You just need to set SELinux to permissive. Install this Magisk module: https://github.com/evdenis/selinux_permissive
Telephoto now works by default on latest LOS 17.1 nightly
No need to change SELinux to be permissive or to install a magisk module to enable camera2api, just update to lineage-17.1-20200529-nightly-polaris-signed.zip, they merged some camera2api stuff and now Telephoto, or second camera, works.
I'm using Urnyx05 latest gcam, it works flawlessly, just don't try to use Slow-mo or stop astrophotography while it's taking a photo because it will crash. I tried UltraCam and it works too, but zooming crashes the app for me.
Worth a try using san1ty's and BSG's gcam too. Though I believe san1ty disabled aux/tele camera on their mod.
And use Google Photos instead of default gallery app to stop weird behaviour while using gcam.

I think you can do it with adb and the set enforce command. Look for that. But I think you have to enable it after every reboot again.
Or look for a twrp flash able zip which changes it
Edit: you can try this https://www.cyanogenmods.org/downloads/permissiver-v4-for-android-10/#
I think you have to flash it after every update
With TWRP you can
