Google Pixel Verizon [NMF26O] Android 7.1.1 Root - Google Pixel Questions & Answers

Hi, so I got my new Pixel from Verizon but as soon as I turned it on it updated to Android 7.1.1 which patched the dePixel8 method. My bootloader is locked and I cannot allow OEM unlock in settings because that was part of the patch update. If anybody knows what I can do to get it rooted, because that is the only reason I got the Pixel instead of an s7 or something that has better specs and is cheaper at Verizon. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Posting questions in the questions section is the best way to get an answer for your question.

This belongs to the Q&A forum

As others stated, you should post this in the Q&A Forum, you know better. Also you cannot root that variant, VZW has blocked root on their variant; well that's what I have read throughout different threads. But if the only reason you purchased a Google Pixel was to root it, then you should've purchased from the Google Play Store; you should've known better!

Well, compare strictly on specs, the S7 & S7E do have better numbers on paper:
- Screen resolution, ppi (super amoled vs amoled)
- Camera (higher aperture for S7 which means more light)
- Battery
- Processor speeds are same (although different processors)
- RAM are same
That said, I would never trade a Pixel with a virgin OS for any device that's heavily-branded in software. I enjoy getting 28-32 hours out of my Pixel vs 19 on my S7 simply because I can freeze more processes. I froze 30+ unnecessary processes on my Pixel successfully, whereas the same freezes on my S7 caused force closes.

I freeze anything I don't use or intend to use. Apps that are marketing related, or silly wallpapers, or serve duplicate functionalities get frozen. I can probably freeze many more. It helps the phone run cooler, not having many wakelocks. You just need to proceed with caution. Freeze a few at a time. Use your own logic to decide what to freeze, and not just blindly using someone else's list.

Im coming from a HTC Desire Z aka G2, and it got water damage and is toast.
this phone seems like a likely competitor to my savy qwerty texting habits and has all the right features in the right place. 8 mp camera, 720p recording, a good processor and is quad band including 3g? thats awesome!
what are your thoughts on this phone? it is due around end ofsummer, Will it be available for Rogers in Canada? any honest feedback is appreciated, the phone seems awesome but i tend to overlook minimal things.
Whats your thoughts?
more info at

and now since the bootloader is apparently going to be shipped unlocked, the modding community would be huge.

Surely that's something you'd need to ask Rogers?

The bootloaders aren't shipped unlocked. But SE will provide you with an unlocking code for free.
The only point to bear in mind is that only handsets that are SIM-unlocked/un-branded can have their bootloaders unlocked. So basically if you purchase directly from a network, you'll be stuck with a locked bootloader (as things stand, obviously someone could work out how to crack it by the time the Pro goes on sale).
As for the modding community being huge, it's pretty quiet for the Arc and the Play at the moment.
The handsets have been rooted a couple of different ways but developing Recovery for them is slow going and there are no custom ROMs yet.
There simply doesn't seem to be much interest from devs.
Personally, It's not my thing, Although nice none the less, One thing I really don't like though is the grid keyboard which I find hard to type on, Might just be me though
Anything under a 4" screen is a non starter for me. Xperia is a nice phone but they are slow and not so much development for it. But then, that's just me
I'd be wary of SE phones. I have an X10 and its a little bit of a let down. SE's custom firmware is sketchy to say the least and there update schedule is terrible. The X10 was SE's first android phone and they seem to be listening and learning from this customer's, hence the X10 2.3 update that was announced recently, but I'd be very wary. Test the phone out at a store of something for a bit and see how you like it. Perhaps SE has really improved with their latest phone.
Lessons have already been learnt with the likes of the Arc and the Play, which would be a much more reasonable basis for any opinion of the Pro as they're essentially all the same handset with subtle tweaks to the hardware.
SE have drastically overhauled their custom UI so that it impacts less on firmware updates and, unlike the X10, have launched their new handsets with the latest version of Android as opposed to being out of date from day one.

Galaxy S 2 Carrier Names...?

http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/16/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-us-carrier-names-revealed-atandt-attain-veri/
So not only do they have lame names, but SGS2 isn't releasing on T-Mobile, at least not now(but I hope it will eventually :/)
Ya, those names make me want to import an SGS2.
Yes I agree how can we "Function" "Within" T mobile when we cannot "Attain" the Galaxy S2............. this sucks............. and so does my pun......
Why dont they just leave Galaxy S2?
History repeats itself... just like the original Galaxy S naming scheme but this time more terrible.
Maybe Samsung is trying to ATTAIN more respect by imroving how they FUNCTION WITHIN? Maybe an ETA on May 24th?????
Also, T-Mo's absence an indicator of ETA and merger/buyout?

That made me laugh
Wasn't a bad pun.
Yeah I do agree though, this sucks...lame ass names and no HSPA+ for T-Mobile.
So i wonder if this will be a better buy than the Evo 3d for sprint users now. May have to change phones again.
These are funny names.
Just like everything else, they're running out of names. Samsung basically uses the same name for most if not all of their Android devices. Galaxy, and then just add a couple of words at the end of it. The next Galaxy is probably going to be called the Samsung Galaxy Burger.
cant wait for the Verizon Function

It made my laugh. I agree. The names are awful.
I really couldn't care less about the names ... I really want the VZW one to be LTE capable.
retarded names for sure. but tmobile will be ok, getting the gs2's bigger brother. from tmonews:
The boys over at Thisismynext.com are running quite the scoop with codename “Samsung Hercules.” With a possible arrival date of August this one has some time to mature but the Thisismynext crew has quite the spec breakdown:
4.5″ 480 x 800 Super AMOLED Plus display
Android 2.3
NFC Support
42Mbps HSPA+ capable (category 24 HSDPA and category 6 HSUPA)
AWS plus 850/1900 MHz…they claim support for AT&T’s 4G will be here if the merger succeeds which interesting considering this phone is scheduled for August and the deal won’t close till next year?
Preliminary measurements of 5.16 x 2.76 x 0.37 inches, resembles the AT&T Infuse 4G
16GB internal ROM, 1GB internal RAM, expandable microSD memory up to 32GB
Qualcomm 1.2GHz dual-core APQ8060 processor??
8 megapixel camera with 1080p video capture and front facing camera for video chat
Micro USB transfer for HDMI
These are certainly some impressive specs and if they come to fruition will make for quite the beastly phone. This might be why Thisismynext claims this phone is tagged for the “over $350″ price category. Let’s see how this one develops.

Anyway,
It's Hercules on T-Mobile i heard. (A lot less lame)

LG Optimus LTE

The LG Optimus LTE has just been released by Bell and it looks like a nice and capable phone. I am wondering what experiences people have with LG.
The Galaxy Nexus was my first choice and I might switch to it after a few things have been fixed/added.
So, is there anything that should make me think twice about getting the LG?
Thanks
Look at their flagship phone the 3D... then look at which version of android it runs
I played a bit with the Optimus LTE two weeks ago.. The screen blew my mind..but LG`s UI is still...disgusting.. lol
However, there's plenty of other launchers available
Way to bash LG. This time an update to ICS is even used as a selling point for the phone. How are they ever supposed to improve if their track record turns everyone off?
This time they produced the best Android phone that has ever been. Even if it were to never get ICS, I would still choose it because it is possessed of superior hardware.

I remember that train of thought when the Optimus 2X was released.
Hm, that makes me wary. If I get a chance I am going to check one out in store today.

Check out my short review of it here: http://www.sync-blog.com/sync/2011/11/review-lg-optimus-lte.html
As well, you can win one from Bell at http://optimus.bell.ca/
My full 20 minute YouTube review should be up in a few hours.
I bought it today and have been playing around for a bit. Made so many video calls...Loudspeaker quality is fine, actual phone sound while calling is dubious. Just so you know, I typed this on the LG Optimus LTE. Now I am playing around with the voice feature. It works fairly well. I said "fairly well", it corrected to "very well". Haha. Any way to turn off auto-correct?

For voice, I don't believe you can. Else there'd be gaps in the dictation.

As an Android newb, this can potentially take a week. I went through the settings, but did not find any such options.

There is only one setting that deals with input.
Settings / Language & keyboard.
You're presumably using the stock Android keyboard and not the LG one (long press in any input entry field to change keyboards).

Review and walkthrough is now online:
Thanks! Will watch your review in the morning. Will spend the night being torn. The sound quality really could be better...and louder...I am comparing to a BlackBerry. On the other hand, this phone has a certain speed advantage over...About all phones.
My greatest concern about getting this phone is the lack of attention and thus the lack of developer support. It doesn't even have a dedicate XDA forum yet!
The phone will get ICS within the next couple of months, what other attention do you need? Perhaps it is better to blame XDA Developers for the lack of a dedicated forum.
My greatest concern, having had it for 2 days, is the call volume. Annoyingly low.
Another concern: battery life. COME ON! To be honest, I have not discharged and charge the battery fully a few times, so it is not my place to say anything. I will have to see when I do that.

Thank you for your post.
This new phone is actually different from Galaxy Nexus, especially UI.
It is because Sharp made new UI for it, which is User Friendly.
There is also setting something called "long-lasting battery mode".
This setting is really useful.
If you need more info, i will give it to you, guys.
How do you know "Sharp, is planning to sell this new Android 4.0 phone to all over the world" and "China gets this Android 4.0 mobile phone."
Is there any official schedule or declarement?
I like this phone so much, but I think I cannot wait any longer...

I really like the look of this phone, especially the waterproofing features (using the phone in a bath, anyone?!), and the only thing that turns me off is the lack of camera flash (and the cramming of 12mpx into the sensor) - poor quality photos, but more importantly, no torch functionality at night (which is a common use for my HTC Desire).
I've been doing a lot of reading to see if it can be rooted, or what the likelihood of an exploit is. I don't have one to play with, so I have no idea if it supports ADB out of the box, or what version of the Linux kernel is running (and if it is susceptible to the exploit CVE-2012-056) - it would be interesting to be able to play with one. Has anyone else heard any information on this front?
help me.

Specs and Developer ordering info direct from manufacturer
Time to get in on the ground floor!
So what will you do?
Withe the changes to Android L, would you still consider a device such as this?
Looks like an interesting device, but the website mentions it will only be sold to approved companies. Not too much of an issue because I think the Z4 will have pretty much these exact specs. I think that will be the first big brand device with an 810? Rumours say it will be announced early January and available in March.

I'm mostly basing that on this leak: http://www.androidorigin.com/sony-xperia-z4-specs-leak-4gb-ram-z3x-exmor-exclusive/
810, 2560x1440 screen, 4GB of RAM, 32GB of storage. Not sure on the huge array of sensors but I suppose it will sport most of what the Qualcomm phone does.
Found this little ditty
The first Snapdragon 810 smartphones should make a first appearance during CES 2015, coming from some of the most important manufacturers. To be more specific, the LG G4, HTC One M9 or Samsung Galaxy S6 could use it, the latter being less likely, as Samsung seems to be preferring their home-mad Exynos.

If LG doesnt lock the bootloader again this will be a killer device and i would buy one most definitely.
If they do lock it, another paperweight for many of us
