Galaxy S 2 Carrier Names...? - General Questions and Answers

So not only do they have lame names, but SGS2 isn't releasing on T-Mobile, at least not now(but I hope it will eventually :/)

Ya, those names make me want to import an SGS2.

Yes I agree how can we "Function" "Within" T mobile when we cannot "Attain" the Galaxy S2............. this sucks............. and so does my pun......

Why dont they just leave Galaxy S2?

History repeats itself... just like the original Galaxy S naming scheme but this time more terrible.

Maybe Samsung is trying to ATTAIN more respect by imroving how they FUNCTION WITHIN? Maybe an ETA on May 24th?????
Also, T-Mo's absence an indicator of ETA and merger/buyout?

That made me laugh
Wasn't a bad pun.
Yeah I do agree though, this sucks...lame ass names and no HSPA+ for T-Mobile.

So i wonder if this will be a better buy than the Evo 3d for sprint users now. May have to change phones again.

These are funny names.

Just like everything else, they're running out of names. Samsung basically uses the same name for most if not all of their Android devices. Galaxy, and then just add a couple of words at the end of it. The next Galaxy is probably going to be called the Samsung Galaxy Burger.

cant wait for the Verizon Function

Spirit Within?

It made my laugh. I agree. The names are awful.

I really couldn't care less about the names ... I really want the VZW one to be LTE capable.

retarded names for sure. but tmobile will be ok, getting the gs2's bigger brother. from tmonews:
The boys over at Thisismynext.com are running quite the scoop with codename “Samsung Hercules.” With a possible arrival date of August this one has some time to mature but the Thisismynext crew has quite the spec breakdown:
4.5″ 480 x 800 Super AMOLED Plus display
Android 2.3
NFC Support
42Mbps HSPA+ capable (category 24 HSDPA and category 6 HSUPA)
AWS plus 850/1900 MHz…they claim support for AT&T’s 4G will be here if the merger succeeds which interesting considering this phone is scheduled for August and the deal won’t close till next year?
Preliminary measurements of 5.16 x 2.76 x 0.37 inches, resembles the AT&T Infuse 4G
16GB internal ROM, 1GB internal RAM, expandable microSD memory up to 32GB
Qualcomm 1.2GHz dual-core APQ8060 processor??
8 megapixel camera with 1080p video capture and front facing camera for video chat
Micro USB transfer for HDMI
These are certainly some impressive specs and if they come to fruition will make for quite the beastly phone. This might be why Thisismynext claims this phone is tagged for the “over $350″ price category. Let’s see how this one develops.

Very nice phone...WinMo is starting to look better..but still not a fan of the Honeycomb effect...it messes with my vision...
Kind of looks like the HTC Hero w/o the Chin and of course with WinMo instead of AndroidOS
Looks good Bro...like the bigger CPU!
love that this is just another phone from htc with no 850/1900 (AT&T) umts
The current run of the rumor mill is that the Leo is what was originally believed to be the Firestone. I'd love some 1GHz Snapdragon + capacitive touch screen goodness.

coming to a US carrier in Q4 of 2010!
Q4 in 2010, hopefully you meant 2009. I've been waiting patiently in Canada for the TP2 but this one has me thinking I might wait but not until Q4 2010.

it was a joke about how incredibly slow US carriers are to pick up new phones.
and for us USA customers I'm sure we'll get screwed out of the front facing camera - and then of course some of the carriers will disable all the good things, like FM radio if it has one or maybe the GPS...
great HTC back to their tricks of putting out models with only like a 1Mhz improvements over their predecessors'
How many times are they going to release the same phone lol
as many times as it takes for us to demand better. This web site seems to be the only reason to buy an HTC phone lately huh.

+1 for that!!!
I've been hearing many variations in this.
Some sites say its a 600 mhz, and others say its a 1ghz cpu.
anyone have any ideas? also, there's a disgreement in the camera: some say its 5 mp, others say it is 8mp. Not too worried about the camera, but the CPU is what I'm wondering about.
If it's only 600 mhz, I'm probably not gonna buy this. I mean, from 528 to 600, that's barely a jump or improvement!
^your right, that small a cpu jump is not worth it. But, I have not seen the final specs yet...

I included only phones released by major manufacturers and tied to one of the four main U.S. carriers (AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon). As mentioned above, I looked at phones released in 2009 and 2010.

I am not trying to defend AT&T here, but it is worth noting that most of their Android phones were launched in Nov/Dec, giving very little time in 2011 to get an upgrade (it can be argued they should have started at 2.2, but that is Motorola's issue, not AT&T's).
Also worth noting is that AT&T has had android phones for less than 1 year and is just getting "up to speed" on the android platform. The Backflip was upgraded from 1.6 to 2.1 in 2010 (which is as high as Moto supports for the Backflip), and while it doesn't count for the article, it should have given AT&T some experience in how to do android upgrades that will help in the future for other upgrades.
If you look at the Android phones that AT&T sold directly (on their website and in their stores) for more than 2 months (3 - Aria, Backflip, & Captivate) and all upgrades (2.1 & 2.2), AT&T is actually at 33%. Since the author did not count the AT&T Nexus 1 (because it was not sold by AT&T), I do not know why the Dell Streak was included either (since it is also not sold by AT&T). The author also included the Dell Aero, which while announced on AT&T, AFAIK, was never actually sold by AT&T.

AT&T Delays LG Thrill (Optimus 3D) Again

AT&T delays LG Thrill 4G (Optimus 3D) again (to September 4). I took this picture with my HTC Inspire (Desire HD) at work (Radio Shack).

I work at Radio Shack in the US and currently have the HTC Inspire 4G (Desire HD). I was planning on switching to the Thrill (Optimus 3D) to see if I like it. I'm a little unsure about having a LG phone, but what do you guys think? It'd be easy for me to switch back to the Inspire/Desire HD, so it's not much of a risk. How do you Optimus 3D owners like your phones? Pros/Cons?
What are your DL/UL speeds where you are?
Why are they billing it as 4G? I didn't think the Optimus 3D was a 4G phone. Or has that functionality been added purely to the US model?

Right now it'll be on AT&T's HSDPA/HSUPA (3G with backhaul). It allows download speeds of up to 7.2 Mbit/sec (I usually do around 6 mbit/sec download, 1 mbit/sec upload). Their LTE (Long Term Evolution) should be rolling out soon. ATT did a demonstration of their LTE and had a download speed of 28.87Mbps and 10.4Mbps in "real world conditions". They are advertising the LG Thrill as "4G" because it will be compatible with the LTE when it comes out. But for right now, let's say that it'll be on 3.5G
There is a lot of negativity towards this device because it has the "wrong" badge on it.
I have had this for almost 2 months and its a great phone. Here in the UK it's an absolute bargain compared to other top end devices on carrier deals. On free phone deals it is £5 per month less than the Samsung S2 and £10 less than an iPhone 4. The present economic situation means value for money is a good selling point again.
There are now more than a dozen people where I work who have bought this phone after seeing mine, they previously had iPhones, Blacberry's, Samsungs, HTC's etc.
Seeing this phone is enough to break the badge fear. What you get for the price is a no brainer
Pete
The delay has been public a while, radio shack stopped taking pre-orders and called all the once that had a pre-order to inform them of the delay.
As for 4G, it's marketing and AT&T does it to more or less all their phones and they are not the only once calling 3G 4G =/
Let's see:
Decent screen & good 3D.
Nothing to complain about radio (good reception, no drop connections...)
A little short on RAM, but enough to work & game anything nowadays.
Enough horsepower under the hood to move anything now and tomorrow. And plenty of source code from TI to develop for that platform.
The only 'con' you could consider is lack of updates from LG... but CM is around the corner.
If only had better battery...

Lack of updates from LG? no really IMO.
It's been out like 2months and there have been 2-3 updates from LG? is that bad?
Sure it's not at 2.3 yet but LG has done updates adressing stuff like the Camera, still slow to load but taking a picture now is actually ok.

I'm not saying that LG does not update. I'm just saying that is the only 'con' you could consider to ditch LG. The hardware is in par or better than other phones, and radio's firmware is good, so the software is the only flacky point in a possible near future. But with CM, in the very worst scenario (LG abandons it) you know you can live without them.

I said so far. they haven't come out yet my friend. I was thinking about the huawei ascend d quad but that isn't out either.

One X. After the 4.0.4 update and Sense 4.1. Its an absolute BEAST. Benchmarks better than the SGS3 now and Tegra 3 optimized games will give it the edge in gaming over a slightly better GPU in SGS3
When it all comes down to it. Pure power is so close that software optimizations will be the difference maker IMO

Was notification light ever fixed? That you couldnt manage the colours of the LED notification light made the one X useless, and even if they did they made the light so hard to see......what a pity
Galaxy Note II should theoretically beat all of them (depending on what you mean by "so far").
Not sure anything beats the Razr Maxx in terms of battery.
Xperia V , T and TX benches higher than those phones... lol!
As far as raw power is concerned it´s the S3 , the international - quad core Exynos version .
The Xperia T and V are S4 , so they are at the same level with HOS , american S3 etc.
+1 for mi2
The unlocked HTC One X has my vote. Technically if we're talking about to this date though, its the Galaxy Note 2.
iPhone !
Ofcourse the SGS3. Plenty of power. Just hoping some better optimizing with Android OS.
gs3 absolutely
I vote for One X.
When the Optimus G and Mi2 come out, they will really be the fastest. After doing a bit of research on the processor in them, I would say they will be around 70% faster than the One X or S3.
Its quite annoying, not only is my One X getting outdated fast, its going to be outdated by a lot... Phones move to fast now :/ you can't keep up.
Qualcomm APQ8064 Snapdragon
Quad-core 1.5 GHz Krait
I'd say it would safely handle any of the current games and apps and anything that android can throw at it so far.
My vote goes for samsung galaxy s3
Sony Xperia V!!
galaxy s3 for sure
If youre talking about hardware most people would say the sgs3 but the meizu MX and another phone I can't think of right now (not the one x) are slightly stronger. For the normal phone you word find in stores, it would be the sgs3

WOW
this is not even a phone prototype ,just a few images running in loop. good screen tech though, i love flexi
OP is exercising wishful display thinking.
That's just to show off the flexible display, not a prototype S4, if it was they would have announced it at the same time.
I love the technology of flexible displays but I just can't see the benefits in this prototype. Seems like it's being added to the phone because they can.

It's cool, granted, but I doubt it's the Galaxy S IV. Surely they can't link this to the S range; it's a completely new design. It should be called the Galaxy Flex (maybe I should get that trademarked?)! Unless Samsung are as stupid as Apple are with their naming conventions?

yes, i would still say its not a phone prototype, to call it as a phone prototype you need atleast a few more thing demoed along with the screen. the screen protype shown dont even run on a OS, its just a few frames of pictures looping inside the flexi display unit.
Scratch that – it's essentially a digital picture frame, which cycles through various images showing what the display can do and isn't running any sort of mobile OS. It's also lacking essentially everything else: camera, radios, and most other hardware features. This is very, very much a prototype to display one potential use of this sort of curved display.
