Is the back prone to scratches? Is the phone too slippery to handle?
Whats your opinion?

Yes, you definitely need a case for this device, I dropped it once & now it has dents & many small scratches on it.

Yup, minor scratches, visible when you clean the back of your device, the type of ones that you get when you slide your phone on a hard surface.

I own all of the Sony Xperia cases but I only use them if I know for sure I'll be in situations where a drop is likely and I'm not in my daily routine / distracted like a trade show.
In my own experience, which will differ from others, the screen will break with the right fall, case or not,
so I don't use one regularly on Xperia phones. My black XZ Looks fine with regular use/wear tear.
( The way I feel is with a case, I'm not using it as the designers intended, and never get to really see it... and I don't like to babysit phones for their future owners. )

I do exactly the same thing, don't use those covers in regular practice, but every now & then it's going to fall & get damaged, so I don't think much about it.

I thougt i wouldnt need any case but found out my XZ was a little bent, tried to staighten it up by bending it and ordered a rigid PC case hoping it wont bend again...

Forest Blue.

The back and front will show wear no different to most other phones, it's the glossy plastic sides you need to be extra careful with. I'm annoyed that Sony didn't use anodised metal for the sides.

I've just ordered a Noreve case, Ambition black grained leather for external color, and indigo interior lining, to match with Forest Blue.
Expensive, but awesome case!
I'm still ordering those cases, for every phone I buy.
With metallic back fastener for belt clip.
I'll post pics when it come home! (14 days, build on demand).
And for less than 2 days, "15% off for mobile devices's covers and small leather goods - Privilege discount code: NEWYEAR17" :good:

Bought mine last December 26 and up until now it's still naked. No TG, camera lens protector, back protector and case. Gotta buy them once I get a job.?

Is there a case that has the ability to attach a lanyard?

My mom and dad are coming from old flip phones where they had lanyards to prevent/minimize drops. I'm a little more concerned now that they have something more expensive and prone to damage if dropped. I originally wanted to get them the Diztronic TPU cases, but if there's something out there with a lanyard attachement hole that would be best.

I can confirm that this case has one too, and I love the case also
nice! i just wish they made one without the big android logo. i'll show it to my parents to see if they mind it or not.
i may just cut a small hole above the rear speaker grille and loop it through those two holes as well.
This was mentioned in another thread as well, but I'm not enitrely sure that I'd trust a lanyard on a silicone type case. What exactly is preventing it, when falling with a force, from holding onto the case and NOT the device? While the cases are clearly fit to our devices, they aren't exactly strongly hanging on either.
Unless you're using a lanyard on an Otterbox type of case, I wouldn't really trust it to hold more than just the case in a fall.
Dude, Im gonna go out on a limb and say, I think the lanyards are even better protection than a case...maybe not protection, but prevention. (That sounds weird..btw)
I used to put the lanyards on all my phones and, aside from kind of looking like an ass, I cant tell u how many times I prevented a drop, especially when pulling out of my pocket. It's just something to grab on to.. so.. +1

I used to as well, but it was actually on the phone, not the case (though it regularly went through a hole in the case as well, but the lanyard hole was built into phones before!)
I dont trust a lanyard attached to a rubber case
I have a CaseMate Barely There, very sleek,.. and strong, .. and has 2 holes for lanyard attach:
http://www.case-mate.com/HTC-One-S-Cases/Case-Mate-HTC-One-S-Barely-There-Cases.asp
it's visible on the photos
This one 2 little holes for the lanyard too.

Damn !! thats a nice looking case
Such a shame that a well made case adds so much bulk
If only the One S had some rubber grips down the side, I wouldnt need a case then

Nillkin stand & flip cover case [youtube review]

Hey guys,
I did a quick youtube review (my first!) of the Nillkin Fresh flip case with stand:
I purchased this cover from ebay, it arrived in a few days from Singapore. The quality is very good although the stand function isn't perfect. It offers a reasonable level of protection for the handset and overall I'm very happy with it.

Great review, thanks. I just have one question regarding the case, does the flap remain shut and if so, how? i.e When you hold the case facing down, does the flap open?

Thanks.
Unfortunately the front flap doesn't stay closed, it's similar to the samsung galaxy flip if you've seen those.
I don't find it an issue for me but I can imagine for some it could be a problem (for example: if you were going to put your phone loose in your bag).
Cheers
Like you said on the video about it not standing up quite right. Would it with time wear and become more flexible in order to do this better. Also how is it pressing the buttons and also as you mentioned when you dropped it, which part of the phone did it hit.
Also for those who want your phone to unlock as you open the cover and vice versa heres a free app I found

Yeah I expect it will wear in over time and should stand up upright a little better, the fold in the flip cover is still quite "springy" at the moment.
I can't say which part of the phone hit the floor when it fell as I wasn't watching whilst it happened. It probably fell from a little under a meter on to hard marble floor, it certainly made a loud bang (suggesting it hit somewhere on the hard back). The phone was still secure in the case and there is no visible sign of damage.
I have a little concern that if the phone hit floor on the very top or very bottom then there is a chance it will completely bypass the case. Although I think this is the same with most hard back cases.
Cheers

Great, are you in the UK and if so where did you order one from. I already ordered one from ebay (~nillkin_case or something) but it said it'll take between a month and month and a half. So if there's a more viable option i'll cancel that one.
It looks great this case and there is little to choose from wrt cases that have a stand.
EDIT: Trust me to order it during chinese new year :/
Looks good, I've currently got a TPU SLine case, but putchased a TPU case with kickstand, which I'm hoping is alright for a daily driver, but if it isn't I might have a go with this case.
Thanks for the review.

What do you think of them S-Line cases? How would they fair with a drop from shoulder/chest height? Also let us know how the tpu with a stand goes.

So overall you're very happy with it and would you think about getting a good TPU case like Diztronic? or even Otterbox if it's available?

Yeah, I do really like it and it's certainly good value for money (£7.50/$10). I will probably get a TPU case at some point too and a bumper to boot. I guess they're all good and suit different purposes.
Yes, during Chinese New Year's it tends to get a little busy and slow especially since Singaporeans celebrate it, some other vendors online have warned about it being slow during this time.
The back seems a little slippery. I had a Mercury TPU which is as slippery on the back as it is on the front glass, so I feel it slide when I hold it with my fingers on the front and back. I guess with a textured front cover on this it shouldn't be as bad? Has any slipperiness from the case been a problem for you? Thanks for the review, it's very helpful.

I guess it is a little slippery but it isn't something that I've really noticed or found to be a problem. The naked nexus 4 was crazy slippery, it would just glide across the desk etc. With this case it's more like a normal phone, it stays put when left alone. Perhaps the stand latch helps anchor it a little better other hardback cases.
When answering calls you'd usually fold the cover over so the inside of your hand is connected with the microfibre material which helps secure it. A small observation is that due to the flip cover having enough material to also cover one side of the phone, when folded back there is more cover than back of phone. It's a minor criticism with the design and one that doesn't really bother me.
Overall I've found the case makes the phone much less slippery but I imagine that a soft backed case (eg: TPU) would secure it even further.
Cheers

Bezel Chipping...

I've had my Z3 now for a couple weeks, came from a z2.
In my one year with the 2 I had no chips, obviously some scratches and scuffs but no chips.
My Z3 already has two chips on the top bezel one in the front and a smaller one in the back, is this a common issue?
I buy this phone because I hate cases so the dust/waterproofing is the big draw for me.
Sad to see these chips so soon..
Got the same issue here. Very bad though

Protective case is the way to go.
This may sound like comparing apple and oranges...
Imagine your car vs keys...nasty...or rubbing dust-sand on car...that is why people makes-uses protective cases...
Can u post some pictures? I intermittently use a case and sometimes not. I am leaning towards not putting a case on bcos a case seems hiding the beauty but this post bothered me. Do u own the black one?

Actually I think with a protector like that, dust still finds its way in and scratches the phone anyway.

I use a similar transparent case for mine but the feel in the hand with it bare is just awesome. I put it in the case when charging bec people/I might accidentaly kick the wire and send my Z3 flying. Lol

Dunno... My phones are always naked and I never have any issues. There are scratches and what not, but that's what makes it special.
I have foil on the back and not a single spot on the metal body...
I'll never put a case on the I s thing, never did with my z2 either.
tempered glass front and back and that's it.
I also make sure my phones always in a pocket by itself.. Wasn't asking for advice on cases simply asking if this problem is wide spread.
Seems odd these company's change materials from one flagship to the next when the previous one clearly had a more durable finish.

Sorry for off topic...
But nothing in the world happens by itself, if you scratch aluminum (not so scratchproof material) it will show marks. Never heard that on Z3 is used some kind of extra soft aluminum...to put it short...good luck...

- The best out of those - Nilkin did a great jobe and follow the the back curves. Precision cuts. You need to hold nicely because its not so rubbery. Note 9
https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/183176796723
- Good case with a nice style. precisely cuts, follow the back curves. Note 7
https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/372276989136
- Horrible - It has protection because its almost like covering your cellphone with a tire. Note 2
Have one of these. Seems like it would take the blow should the phone fall screen first on a completely flat surface. The corners are somewhat hollow which makes them a bit softer than the rest of the case. I guess it's around 1.3mm thick and sticks out 0.65mm above the screen. It seems to provide some extra grip but is not really comfortable to hold. It's cheap atleast.

I purchased the Roxfit Precision Slim Soft Touch Shell. If you like something slim that will provide some minor protection to the back and corners this is a great case. Everything lines up and it doesnt hinder any usage of the fingerprint scanner at all. Its pretty thin so like i said this will probably only prevent minor damage.

that case seems very nice, and I like it doesn't cover all the buttons!
the clear and anti-scratch one seems even slimmer though? Maybe I could try that one..
and did you maybe get also the curved screen protector?

cause I'm curious to know if they would perfectly fit together, or maybe they will conflict on the edges?

I did purchase those screen protectors as well. The problem with these is they do not sit perfectly on the edge of the curved part of the screen. Your left with a slightly raised edge that is going to accumulate grime and debris around the border of the screen protector. However it does fit with the slim case and the 2 do not conflict with each other in any way. That being said if your have noticed the screen sensitivity issue at all then your are REALLY going to notice it with this on. I find myself having to hit the same button 2 or more times especially if the part of the screen I am tapping is closer to the edge of the screen. I would only recommend getting this right now if your in desperate need of the protection it may offer. If not then I may hold off until Sony fixes whatever issue is going on with their screen sensitivity.

hi thanks for the answer. I already have glass protector applied, I got the version smaller than the front panel so it covers only the real screen actually, still it has the same problem on the sides coming a little apart and accumulating dust, so I wondered if the curved one would have been better. if it is not I'll stay with the one I have now, thank you!
about the sensitivity problem, I didn't try without the protector, as I applied it as soon as I received the phone, I can fill it sometimes especially when scrolling items, I have to put more pressure than usual, but it is not a so big problem for me atm.
Just ordered these 2 cases and set of screen protectors. Will update when they arrive.
I ordered the two manufactured by Nillkin (the hard plastic, and the flexible ones), I will report back when I get them.
I already have the one that imitates leather, and has a V letter on the back. It's pretty bad in my opinion, make the phone less comfortable, the fit is not great, and it doesn't add any protection to the screen (minimally raised borders). Wouldn't recommend it unless you want to go for the absolutely cheapest.

didn't you return your xz2c because of the screen sensitivity problem? just curious
I did return it, but my device had also a dead pixel. So after I saw the same screen sensitivity issue in the Huawei p20 and p20 pro I started believing that this is an Oreo issue as was explained in some other thread... And I ordered another xz2c
So if Sony doesn't resolve the touch screen issue themselves, probably it will be solved by Google in the next major Android update.
It bugs me, but I can live with it, and I want to believe it will be resolved. Basically I don't see any other phone that will fulfill me in battery life + 2018 SoC + not huge size. My only alternative would be a S9 with lineage OS, but buying an expensive phone with the intention of voiding warranty on day 1 is not a good approach I think.
Probably the Xiaomi mi7 would be a good alternative, but we're months away from its release.
No phone is perfect, so I prefer something that fits my pocket and I don't have to charge in the middle of the day, even if it means a poor gaming experience.

well said i agree all points and not to mention s9 users, treble or not, i really don't think will get a fully functioning los, with perfect cam quality like stock etc, or at least not immediately! plus s8/s9 are already too big for me, and TW is not an option at all. mi7 also will be bigger than this one.
yeah I'm following that thread and saw what you guys realized, I'm happy it is not a Sony problem so this is probably going to be sorted out.
I'm really enjoying this phone, not perfect of course but has many pros, and dimensions are wonderful.
will wait for your feedbacks about covers and glasses.. bye!

I thought the same about the S8 and S9 at the beginning, but I ended getting a S8 last year and it's very comfortable in hand, despite the size.
I understand you have different preferences, I don't need my phone to be compacts, but I don't want to be huge. Let's say the S8/S9 is my limit. Something like a Oneplus, the bigger XZ2, etc. would be uncomfortable for me. Maybe I will buy a Mi7 later this year, but I doubt it.
Well the screen protectors were fail, they didn't grip around the curved screen edge at all. The Olixar case sux, it's very slippery and prone to finger prints. I do like the Kugi case, it's grippy and it feels stout and durable. The raised edges also will protect the screen well if u lay the phone screen down.
I got this one: https://www.amazon.com/Colorful-Ult...d=1525256695&sr=8-1&keywords=xz2+compact+case
Really happy with it, great case.
This is the case I got: http://a.co/4iwmOZU
I quite like it and just left a review with photos. I definitely recommend looking at my photos, as the actual product is a little different than the mock-ups. Particularly on the corners.

Does it have raised edges in order to protect the screen? If not, do you use a screen protector?

It does not. I plan to get a glass screen protector once a good one exists.
Olixar FlexiShield
I've tried a Olixar FlexiShield. It fits tight on the phone, creates an edge maybe 1mm above the screen, it's smooth and comfortable to touch and hold.
There's no extra padding in the corners and the buttons become difficult to operate.
for less than 10 €, i'am very satisfy
this one is not realy elegant but give a very good protection for 5€ FPI !
this one is elegant and thin as a 2nd skin
but don't give a big protection for 5€ FPI !
i baught those 2 on amazon.fr in the marketplace here :

Question What color did you pick?

Putting up a poll out of sheer curiosity.
Since these phones need a case, any dark color works fine.
Without a case they will get TKOed... have one from day one.

Yeah I plan on ordering a case for mine ASAP. I just need to figure out what one I want. I love the low-profile feel of my N10+ 5G when I don't have the case, but I'll admit that I've broken the digitizer a few times. Thank you for insurance and $39 LCD/Digitizer replacements. Haha
I was torn for the longest time, black or burgandy. In the end, black was my choice. Can't go wrong with black. And coming from the blue note 9, I missed black phones.

I've had the N10 in Aura Glow, White, and Black. I thought I would pick black, but the burgundy looks so good.
I have the Graphite on pre-order

Eventually Zizo will have a case. That's all I use on my N10+'s. Zero damage in spite of a dozen drops onto concrete. The Bolt provides full face plant protection which also helps holding the phone and accidental touches. A good case makes the phone easier to use. Pay special attention to the protection given to the spen corner as these are corner hitting phones when dropped... that is if it doesn't face plant
The problem is any impact that can damage the display, frame rail or rear cover can also take out the mobo, cam, etc. The mobo and cams are especially susceptible and intolerant to high G loading impacts and board flexing. What seems like minor damage can get very expensive and/or erratic behavior, failures.
Samsung has some clear cases on pre-order right now, with and without a kickstand. I will probably get one of those.

yeah with the mechanical OIS that doesn't surprise me at all. That and lenses require pretty precise alignment as well. And all of the phones I've damaged have been from face plants....The rear has only been cracked once after I rolled onto it working under my car.
I went with black. I ordered the Spigen Rugged Armor and Tough Armor in black.

I've been lucky with face plants as most were on level surfaces and it landed on the case guard. A couple drops though did catch the display, once the factory screen protector and a couple of times Gorilla IQ Sheild.
Both protected the display from a sure marring.
It's impossible to completely protect the display but you can do an adequate job most times.
The case should be slightly higher than the display on the sides and even higher on the ends.

Hard polycarbonate doesn't absorb much energy from an impact.. if it doesn't absorb it, it can transfer it to the device. Good for scratch protection but a good corner hit on concrete will not be pretty.

The worst part about this situation? I worked in a cell phone store as a flippin' repair tech for 6 1/2 years. If anyone should know better...It's me. LOL

Lol, you're desensitized
The incredible amount of trouble a damaged or lost flagship phone would cause keeps me in check.

In my opinion Spigen prices have increase a lot since the last time I bought from them. I want a clear case to show the Graphite colour.
I love the way the Burgundy looks. It's almost a shame to have to cover it up with a case.

I hear you but I think functionality and survivability are more important. The cost in time and aggravation outweigh the pretty face.
So all I look for is a dark colored phone to blend with the case. You could get a graphite grey case...

Never mind, I went to the US website to check if they had any earlier today. I just found them on Amazon UK, and for some reason they are charging US people almost double. For example the Tough Armor is £19 here, and 45 dollars in the US. So I might buy 1 besides the Samsung case to check it out.

At least I've got insurance via Verizon. It's paid for itself about 3 times now.
