Sony Xperia M2 - D2303 - Non-ordinary Slow Charging Issue - Sony Xperia M2

Hey, I'm - Chaorrupted X -.
I'm currently using Sony Xperia M2 - D2303, with custom ROM CyanogenMod 13 (Release Candidate 1).
Right now, my phone is experiencing slow charging issue. This happen since last week, I send my phone to the repair shop, to repair my USB charger port (again...). After I got my phone back, in 1 day I notice a very slow charging. It's much more slower than the normal slow charging. I play with my phone while charging, the battery is discharging slowly. It feels like I didn't connect the charger to my phone.
I also notice that there's no thunder icon in the battery icon, when I start charging up my phone, when my phone is still on. I also didn't hear any charging sound, when I connect or disconnect my charger.
But if I start charging my phone in off state (shutdown), then turn it back on, after it finish booting up, I can hear the charging sound, and there's a thunder icon inside the battery icon. The speed of charging is still the same, very slow. If I disconnect and reconnect back my charger, the thunder icon will gone, and I can't hear any charging sound.
When I connect my phone to my laptop, it will only charge my phone, and it's very slow as usual. I can't even transfer file, my laptop doesn't detect my phone. I tried to restart my laptop, restart my phone, connect the USB while restarting the phone, the problem is still there.
Every time I want to charge my phone, I must enable airplane mode, and put my phone to sleep, to charge it like normal (a little bit slow than normal). If I tried to charge my phone during shutdown (offline charging), my battery level will stay at/around 3%. If it's higher than 3%, it will discharge slowly until 3%, even while in charging mode. That time I realize that I need to charge my phone while it's still on, and enable airplane mode.
If my battery is fully discharged (0%), I need charge and wait about 30 minutes or an hour for my battery charge until 1% and above (max 3%, it's very rare to go beyond that), so I can turn on my phone, to charge it more than 3%.
There's nothing wrong with my USB charger, I already tried a different one (using my friend's), and I also bought a new one, it still doesn't solve my problem.
After a few days, my USB charger port was broken, again! Then as usual, I send it to the repair shop, but this time a different repair shop. Once I got back my phone, I can charge my phone back, but the problems is still there, nothing change.
I wipe everything (using TWRP) in the phone and flash the CyanogenMod 14.1, the problem is still the same, very slow charging. Then I wipe everything and flash the CyanogenMod 13 back, because I prefer a stable build for my daily use. As usual, the problem is still there
I wonder if I fully wipe my device, then shutdown, can I still charge my device? Sometimes I also wonder that if there's a corrupt file in my phone, a file that has something to do with charging, transfer file through USB, or anything that's really important...
I don't want to lose my Sony Xperia M2. There might be a solution to this. I just hope it's not a hardware fault.
Thank you for taking your time to read my thread.
Now, time to sit in the corner and think about my life.

Hi Chaorrupted X,
I'd try to do an update using EMMA to a stock ROM and see if that charging issue still present or not. Then you can flash TWRP and CyanogenMod again.
Have a good day.
Regards.

Hey xavinux, thanks for the reply.
Actually that's a pretty good idea. But unfortunately, I can't connect my phone to my laptop. EMMA doesn't detect my phone.
Whenever I connect my phone to my laptop, it will only charge my phone. I can't do anything else like transfer file, or using ADB command.

Hi,
So ADB commands recognize your device.
If you haven't done this already, connect your M2 to your computer following this guide:

Regards.

What I mean is ADB doesn't recognize my device. Sorry if I confused you.
I tried to list the device in ADB command, but there's none in the list of devices attached. I also tried using command "abd reboot bootloader", it said "error: device not found".

I've Ubuntu 14.04 on my Laptop and it detects the M2 without problems, can also connect to it with the "adb shell" command.
When I connect it to a Windows computer and although the device appears on the "Device Manager", have to install the corresponding driver to make adb and EMMA detect my M2.
And remember to connect your device to your computer as explained in this guide:

A few months ago, when my device is okay, with no issues, I can easily use EMMA and FlashTools. Both of the software does detect my phone. I used them to update my bootloader and flash FTF stock ROM. But now, I can't use them anymore.
My laptop is a triple boot. I got Microsoft Windows 10 Home, Linux Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, and Remix OS - Android 6.0.1 inside it. None of this operating system detect my phone. I even tried to connect on my friend's laptop, it's still the same.
I guess we can't use the USB cable to solve the problem.
Anyway, thank you very much xavinux for trying to help me.

Hi. From today I have the same problem. Phone is charging very slow. Now is on charger and after 4 hours is only 11%. So what to do now? There will be connector problem or charging unit in phone? Someone have solution?

Hi
Its perfectly clear that it is a hardware issue
You are maybe facing one of those issuse that I have faced before:
1. The new usb jack is not original
2. The new usb is not for m2
Mine was repaired with an Xperia C one which worked only for 2 hours and bricked again
3. The five iron legs of the usb jack is not placed in thier right place on the board or one of the legs is corrupted
4. The AC Power adabter which located on the board is damaged (the AC Power and the usb jack are not the same) and it needs to be replaced
5. Normal phones consumes about 200 mA/h
If your phone is consuming much more than that then this means there is a flauty ressistence in the board or another problem in the AC Power
Good luck.

[Q] USB Connection on/off every 2 seconds

I am trying to connect via USB to my PC, not having much luck. I've tried several micro USB cables, and tried plugging them into every USB port on my PC.
When I plug in, and view "Devices and Printers" in Windows 7 32-bit, I can see a total of 6 LG devices show up:
LG Android Phone
LGE p999DW USB Device
LG Android (modem)
LG Android (NMEA)
LG Android (Serial)
Android Sooner Single ADB Interface
But literally every second some of them fall off the list and some reappear, sometimes they are all present for 1 second, sometimes none of them are present, and every combination in between.
I have no ideas left here. Uninstalled the LG driver from control panel, and reinstalled. Tried brushing out the USB port on the phone, as well as the old NES 8-bit blow method, no luck. Lots of cables tried all of which have worked in the past, no luck. Anyone have any thoughts?
Put the phone in apx mode by taking out the battery, holding vol +/-, plugging in the phone and waiting until the driver is ready.
Apx mode won't reconnect if dropped. .. I would guess a bad USB connector if the problem exists.
Also if the PC is overclocked turn that off. It messes with USB.

sound like a connection problem, either with the cable or your physical port on the computer
So it's connecting fine in APX mode, it stays connected in Devices & Printers. But I can't run the LG Mobile Support Tool from there, I've got to boot into Android. As soon as I boot into Android and connect USB, it's dropping the various device profiles in and out of Devices & Printers ever second.
Does it seems odd that I get a good solid connection in APX mode, but not when connecting with Android booted? Seems if the problem was with the USB connector on the phone, it would be an issue all the time.
Any other suggestions? I've tried going back to stock recovery and stock ROM, same issue. I'm really just trying to get the baseband update.

So you can safely say that the connector is good and cable its good. This suggests a software problem... either in Android or PC.
You can try the cleanup batch tool but I doubt it would solve the issue. Does not hurt to try though.

Are all of your Lg Drivers up to date?
No luck there either. Seems like a hardware problem, but it works fine in APX, only cutting in and out once Android boots.
I've been having the exact same issue.

Great, we've got strength in numbers!
So I've tried everything. I've flashed to stock recovery and OS, uninstalled the LG driver and reinstalled, multiple USB cables, different machines, USB debugging on/off, and every combination of things I can think of.
Sucks if if it's a hardware issue. Out of warranty period and I don't want to pay $130 or whatever the insurance deductible is for something so small... but I can't get 2.3.4 loaded without getting USB connected.
I'd be sure it's a USB connection problem, if I didn't get a smooth steady connection in APX mode. I've used NVFlash several times without issue.
Yeah I've only noticed it since i got the 2.3.4 update.
I've tried all my usb ports, and it will pop-up.
Last night i finally got it to let me decide to turn usb mass storage on but when I opened my computer nothing was showing up.
Just got a replacement g2x today after a long battle with my old one's usb port. When i was troubleshooting, I found that vmware and blackberry drivers can cause conflicts.
Try plugging in the phone and removing the drivers for all the LG devices you see in device manager.
btw... brand new replacement phone, if i move it the slightest bit while connected windows will play the disconnect/reconnect sound. I think LH just screwed up in the port design...
There's a funky greenish sticker around the usb port on this new one. Not sure what thats all about... cant tell if this is a refurb either.
Finally got mine to stop. I did a system restore on my laptop and it was good
@captmorganz the green sticker was on both my originals, and to check for the refurbished or not there is a code on the back under the battery by the screws that shows p999dw for original and something close but another letter at the end for refurbished, can't think right now since I've been at work for about 15 hours doing nothing and drinking coffee for the past 5 haha, excuse the rant.

Nexus doesn't detect USB-connection

Dear community,
I have a serious problem with my beloved Nexus 5 (black, 32GB).
Yesterday I recognized that the Device doesnt detect any kind of USB-connection.
Neither on a charger, nor on a computer/notebook. I tried several different cables and computer/chargers, but no differences.
When the device is powered off everything works properly. The Nexus is charging and I even managed flashing Android 5.0.1 via fastboot a few minutes ago (hoped that the system was the problem, but it doesn't seem so).
Device isn't rooted or modifed (recovery, system) in the moment cause of the os-flash.
Do you have any idea what the problem could be? :crying:

Hey @BrainChecker
first of all it doesn't seem to be a Hardware defect, if it's working fine, when phone is off!
Seems like u created some kind of problem with connecting to ADB or any update etc...
I would recommend to backup all stuff u need and then going to recovery and make a factory reset.
If all is working fine u already see there was a problem in system.
If u have still problems, it seems to be deeper (but don't think so), which means kernel, bootloader etc...
Much success!
CHEERS
Thx for the fast reply
I reflashed Android 5.0.1 now, but I have still problems.
Now, the device is charging normally, but still doesnt connect to computer. And the charging symbol doesnt disappear when I plug my Nexus off...

So check ur source for firmware and there's also the 5.0.2 out.
Try to flash this with a clean system.
Much success.
CHEERS
Thanks. Source is the official Google-Site for Factory-Images, MD5 is okay.
Where did you find a 5.0.2 for the Nexus 5 ? I'm finding only one for the Nexus 7.
Problem still is the same (Sytem reflashed), and even with a custom-kernel the are still there.
I'm really scared
EDIT:
a little bit more information. I reflashed 5.0.1, made a factory reset and even reflashed 4.4.4 (of course with a full wipe). Still problems.
Deinstalled all USB-Drivers (with USBDeview), changed the used ports on my computer and my notebook.
I tried custom kernel (hellsgod) and recovery (TWRP), no changes.
Still same problem. Phone is charging when plugged in (in the some cases, but NOT in every case). Charging symbol doesn't disappears after plugging off.
Computer doesn't detect anything. Neither in system-tray, nor in the device manager. But I recognized that for a realy short moment the "plug-in-sound" sounds twice (connect and disconnect), also for a very short moment the phone shows the debugging-icon...
USB in general seems to work in the system; I can use USB-OTG as normal.
I'm a little bit under stress, because I will leave Germany in a few days for several months. And 1.) I will need a working phone 2.) I don't want to spend money on a new one (travelling is very expensive...) and 3.) I don't really have the time and the nerves to work days on these problem...
:crying::crying::crying::crying:
I'd say that you have lots of old drives on the computer. Take them all off. I pulled out my hair over this. I took dozens out from old phones and my Nexus then it loaded a driver and a message came on the phone asking to recognise the computer...
Thanks for the tip, but it didn't work for me.
I removed all former smartphones, massstorages etc with USBDeview but my problem is still the same.
I recognized that on my dad's computer even the Windows-dialog for media devices opens...but theres still only the same short appearing of the mass-storage and debugging-symbol. Klicking on the Windows-dialog ends in nothing...

Does your pc detect anything when you plug usb cable ?
Yes, it detects, but then disconnects, can it be a problem in the battery?
Chances are you have received a refurbished device or defective battery.
Try and find another Mi4 user for trial of the battery or let's see you need to contact the vendor soon.

Charge via wall adapter. Leave it for some time.
PS: When your battery reaches 9-10%, it is advisable to charge it back to 100%.
Hi,
Im having the same problem, Red LED when charging, nothing else on screen, cannot switch on, its not even detected when connected to pc.
were you able to solve your problem?

I just got this issue 10min ago. Havn't depleted the battery on the phone for a very long time, my guess is that it hasn't calibrated the battery in a while or something like that. Will keep it in the fast charger during the night and then i'll reply here.
EDIT: Normally the red LED is constantly on when the battery is low and it's in the charger, now it's flashing which makes it look a bit more scary.
EDIT2: Works fine now after a night of charging
Charger could be not pushing enough voltage to charge battery. Try another one to see if it remedies the issue.
I do have the same problem with my Mi4. I wanted to start the update in the Updater app (to Android 6 version of Xiaomi.eu) and suddenly it turned off (at 100% battery). When I connect my phone with my computer it is recognized and all the partitions are mounted. And with all I mean all. There are about 7 partitions mounted (Linux and Windows) and they keep being mounted until I disconnect the phone. I let my Mi4 on the wall charger for 24 hours (2A Samsung one which charges all my other devices without any problems) but I still have the blinking red light after connecting it to the charger. Any other things I can do to get it running again?
EDIT: I can't see the phone in fastboot or adb and when I keep the power button pressed for about 10s it seems to disconnect and instantly reconnect the phone.

I solved this problem on my own. Even though the phone doesn't show up on the fastboot devices list you can use the Mi Flash Tool to flash the fastboot update (http://xiaomiadvices.com/miui-7-flash-fastboot-rom-on-xiaomi-phones-using-mi-flash-tool/). The drivers installed with the Mi Flash Tool for the Windows 10 Mobile Release (http://en.miui.com/thread-189369-1-1.html) recognize all the partitions as one device and show it with a cryptical name in the flash list.
Hi ! I fully charged the phone and after it shuted down. It doesn't starts. PC doesn't see it. When I'm plugin the wire just half way into the phone the red light stays on for a few seconds and than nothing at all. Can anyone help me?
Push power+vol up for quite enough lets say 20 sec
same problem here i kept charging for whole night but phone not getting on.. only red LED comes when kept for charging and not detected in PC also. Can any 1 help on this
I had the same problem ( strangely,it occured after a whole night charging, f... knows what happened)
Tried to change charger. No luck. The phone won't even boot by pushing Vol down+ Power
Solution: I simply connected the phone to a portable external charger, and tadaaaa !!! it was brought back to life !
Hope this helps

[Q] OPO Battery dead, Computer won't recognize phone

Hey Guys,
my OPO is dead atm.
The battery drained to 0 and now I can't do anything with my phone.
I can't charge it, start it, start fastboot etc.
I've already contacted OnePlus and next week they want to make a remote session.
But my phone is dead for 2 weeks now and I don't want to wait till next week (and I dont think, that they can fix the problem).
Do you know if there is any chance to get the phone recognized by the computer?
I have already installed all drivers, adb, many OPO Toolkits and and and..
But when I plug in my phone to the computer, the phone does not get recognized (there is no "Badiim" like when I connect any other device).
And the device manager is empty too.
Before the battery drained, I could connect the phone to the computer anytime and it get recognized instantly

Have you tried connecting it for a while to another low power USB source? I've had a couple of devices die, but the battery just needs slowly replenished to help bring it back to life. I've connected it to a USB port on my TV and just left it for an hour, it seems to trickle enough power to start charging.

Nexus 5 only charges while in Bootloader

Dear XDA-community,
My Nexus 5 (D821 32GB) only charges while in bootloader mode.
Symptoms:
It spontaneously stopped charging in a normal way yesterday. By that I mean, that my Nexus 5 does not charge while switched on. While switched off, it loops the following way: it switches on, shows battery logo with the lightening, then goes to the logo that shows an empty battery (even though it isn`t empty, this logo usually shows loading progress, in my case it is not animated, meaning it just stays "empty"), after what the phone switches off and it goes back on again.
My temporary solution:
To circumvent that, I found out that it always charges while the bootloader screen is on (bootloader version: HHZ20h), and sometimes charges while in recovery mode (I have TWRP 3.0.3.0). So I used this method to load the battery.
My troubleshooting:
After extensive search on Google, the only reasonable thing that was said in one of the forums was that probably Android 6.0.1 detects some kind of danger to charging my battery and refuses to do it (I had the Xtrasmooth 6.0.1 custom rom with Xposed installed, stock kernel). Next thing I did was installing the app "Ampere" which told me that my phone`s battery, even though close to 3 years old, is in "good condition". Assuming that it is the OS that is messing with my charging issue, I completely wiped my phone, only leaving TWRP and an unlocked bootloader.
Please note:
I have tried all kinds of cables and chargers, even tried connecting to the PC to charge. My original charger works perfectly fine, and the charging port itself is clean. Like I said, the phone charges only while in bootloader. Battery life is also normal.
Question to you guys:
Here I am, with a fully wiped Nexus 5, ready to install a new custom ROM and being unsure what the issue might be.
Can anyone help me get my phone back to charging while the phone is on?
Is there a way to separately flash/work with usb connector drivers?
Thank you in advance :fingers-crossed:
Update 1:
Flashed latest factory image and returned phone to complete stock, problem persists. Why would the charging port not work while the phone is on?
Update 2:
Enabled USB debugging. Phone is not only not charging, but also cannot connect via USB to my computer as MTP (it is simply not recognized at all). In Windows Device Manager, it does not show up at all, even under "Other devices" (I uninstalled all possible drivers to see if it Windows 10 would react to it getting plugged in, it does not). I believe the problem is not the hardware of my phone (as it can charge and connect to the PC while in bootloader, fastboot commands work, could not manage to get the ADB commands to work in recovery), it must be some kind of internal driver issue.
Hi,
I have exactly the same issue. I have tryed all. I flash my Nexus 5 to Android 5 and the to 4.4.4 but nothing worked. Have you being able to fix the problem?
I also think this is not a hardware issue since I have changed the charging port and nothing happened and the same with the battery.
Santiago
It could be a defective USB flex cable. There are 4 pins: 2 for charging, 2 for data transfer. It's possible for the phone to charge and not be recognized as a phone when connected to a computer.

5 pins...
Yes, there are 5 pins but I throught 2 were used for data, two for power. I admit I was wrong in this belief.
