port under band - Samsung Gear S3

Anyone else notice the connection port on the watch located under where the lower band attaches to the watch?

Just checked mine and I don't have that port in your picture. I have the Frontier WiFi only version. What version do you have?

Mine is ATT 4g Frontier

Just checked on mine, T-Mobile 4g version. Got a waterproof cover over it but popped it off and there it was. Wonder if that could be used for charging.

BT/WiFi version here, no port.
Our version doesn't need no stinkin' port hehe

I believe it's used for programming the sim card.

That's what I was thinking when I found it.

... or LTE antenna maybe..?

Anyone know where I can get another waterproof cover for the LTE hidden port on the Gear S3 Frontier? Lost Mine!

It can also be used to connect to Odin via hardware cable. The Bluetooth versions have it also I believe, but it is sealed within the watch. Can only access by removing the back.

hopefully someone can figure out root once they actually start tinkering with it

Does anyone know where I can get a new cover for this data port?

Maybe I'm old fashioned but I'm just going to leave it alone. Not an engineer and don't want to mess with something I don't understand. I like the watch too much!

at this point, there isnt much reason for you to take the cover off. Its mainly so that you can force firmware updates on it via Odin etc etc. I hope that those who are engineers or code writers can figure out a way to get Android Wear on this hardware. Im a huge fan of the watch too with regard to the hardware, but tizen is horrible in comparison to AW

Thanks! Not looking to launch nuclear missiles or solve the national debt on my watch. Just want it to be cool. Waterproof would be nice too. Tizen or AW doesnt really matter to me. Just a simple user. :silly:

If youre not wanting to launch nuclear missiles, then you should take the watch off, put it in a settl box with 2 inch thick walls, weld it shut, place it in a 30 ft hole in the middle of a wooded area and then forget where you buried it. Mine launches missiles like 7 times a day!! Kidding aside, the water resistant feature of the S3 Frontier is one of my favorite parts of the hardware itself. I came from a Gear 2 Neo which was rooted and running AW and i find it to be vastly superior to Tizen. Hell, something as simple as the translator app is just one of many small examples of stuff that just runs more smoothly on AW. Ijust wish that Sammy would get Tizen up there and do better, cooler stuff with it. I do love samsung pay with my watch tho. Its f$&king dope as s---!!!

[App] [3.1+] WatchDog - Vehicle Alarm System

Hi,
I would like to introduce my newest application: WatchDog Alarm System. I built it to protect my KTM 990 Adventure R motorcycle from thieves and decided to publish it to the world for free.
I'll be very glad to get your feedback and tests on as much as possible different devices. tested it only on my Galaxy Nexus and Motorola Defy+
This application will help to protect any vehicle by examining their location and position relative to the ground by checking several sensors. If something is changed an alert will be sent to the user.
I love the final result and uses it every day.
App can be downloaded from: type: com.abware.watchdog_client in Google play store
Waiting for your feedback \ suggestions.
Thanks a lot!

How does this app work? You need two phones? One to notify you and one to store in the vehicle, that's not very practical? I don't understand...how can the phone left in the vehicle detect someone breaking your window or unlocking your door? The only thing I'd think that it would help if someone drove off with your vehicle...

Yes you need two phones and I think it's great. Forget about the word "phone", we need a black box with GPS, accelerometer, gyroscope and GSM. I checked Arduiono, Odroid, raspberry pi etc. much more expensive and too fragile. You have hundreds of cheap phones containing all needed sensors, reliable, dust/water proof So why not use them?
It works perfect with motorcycles. you have no door/window and even the slightest move/shake of the bike will trigger the alarm workflow.

^this.
Guys,
The agent device (the phone in the vehicle) doesn't need internet connection. It uses Google Cloud Messaging by default but if there is no internet connection available it automatically switches to SMS communication.
Don't know about prices in U.S. Here in Israel, we have basic service which costs 2.5$ / month including free SMS and 10MB data (every extra MB costs ~1 cent) so comparing it to 2500$/year of comprehensive insurance for my motorcycle - it's really a money saver for me.
Such stupid complaints, how else can it inform you if it doesn't have a second phone, by messenger pigeon? I'm a biker too and I think this is great, there are several tracker systems out there most of which can cost a good deal of money and might require long contracts, so I'm delighted to see this. Many thanks to the developer!

Worth getting the S2 at this point?

So I may be picking up the s2 3g Verizon version but unsure since its kinda getting old now. I currently use Android wear and really looking to try tizen. Seems so much more polished than AW except for the voice aspect. I guess the s3 will be coming out in a couple months so it leaves me uncertain on what to do. I just love the design of the s2. I'd actually be trading my Nexus 9 tablet in for it since I don't use it anymore. What do you guys think, is it worth still getting this watch? Or should I wait?
I think that it's up to you honestly, but if your trading something in that you don't use...why not. Or wait for the s3

Yeah I know it is, was just looking for opinions on the device from fellow users. And if being that it's at this point in the devices life span, is it still worth it.
Not sure if it is at that point since I haven't heard them announce a s3, I can find them around me at $150 price point and it's the 3g ver

Yeah that's actually how much the guys I'm gonna trade with was selling it for. But since I really don't use my tablet anymore, I offered him that and he said yes.
Well it was my understanding that the s3 would be announced during the note 7 announcement. Or at least around that time. Which the note 7 is being announced Aug 2nd I believe. Which I'll probably buy actually, so not sure I'll want to even spend another few hundred on a smartwatch. So do I take the s2 now at no cost to me except a trade of my nexus 9.

Take the s2 now with no cost if the person is doing an even trade it's a no brainer!
It's a great watch and I'm sure won't be disappointed in it. Remember if and when they release the s3 most likely the price will be out of the range of most folks as was the s2 for quite some time. For a straight trade, with all due respect, you'd be a fool to not do it
Edit, looks like your tablet is selling for more than that version is worth. I would sell the tablet and go through swappa to get the watch. They can be had for often 150 or so.

Yeah, it's a good point. Being that I already have a smartwatch (Sony sw3) I don't want to pay over $200 really. Which I'm sure the s3 will be definitely over that. What new features will it introduce? I'm not sure.
Yeah I've seen my tablet for around $200. I just really don't feel like dealing with eBay with their fees and what not. Plus I can hold this watch in person to make sure it's intact and new as he describes. Just figured it'd be easy to just straight up swap it.
Also, I can still use GPS without a cellular plan right? Not sure if I'm going to add the plan or not.

Oh okay. I spoke to Verizon about it and for their version, the watch gets its own number but anytime you text, or make a call from the watch, the other person will see your original main number from your cell phone. But I would think that would only be applicable if you have an actual plan. otherwise your watch would just be connected either via Bluetooth or WiFi and just mirroring notifications from your phone. It's supposed to have auto sync or something. Not sure if any of that applies to the watch if you don't have a data plan though. It's confusing lol

I have question that hopefully someone can answer. How does the watch handle when your phone connects to your vehicle? Obviously when I'm in my car, I want my car to take the call over it'd sound system and not the watches speaker. When I briefly had the huawei watch, I actually to install an app to make this work. How does it work with the s2?

I don't know. I mean, I'll try it out. But I've got too many assistants already with Alexa and Google.
Samsung makes great devices but I'd forgotten how ridiculous they've gotten with pushing their software. I wish I could root this and put plain Android on it. It's really the only negative I have with this phone.
Impatiently waiting. I honestly thought we would see it by now.

damn bixby button. Sick of accidentally waking it just to have to exit it. Pointless button. Don't see where bixby fits into an already busy landscape. Worse thing about this phone other than the idiotic place to locate a fingerprint sensor!
like going to a car dealership buying a new car ,the salesman tells you that it does not come with brakes at the moment ,it will have brakes but we don't know when !!,,,come on Samsung pull your finger out!
They already gave a time frame. Late spring.
That means from now until mid June.
Honestly, I'm perfectly fine with them taking however long they need to make sure that their software is where they'd like it to be. HOWEVER, if you are going to put a dedicated hardware button on a device as expensive as this which does not currently have a function, then your customer should have the ability, natively, to remap it's function as they please. I take offense to having a dummy button on a phone I've paid this much for.
I really don't care, I use Google anyway and have Bixby disabled. Use the Bixby button to launch the flashlight, some use it to launch Google Now but all you have to do is say it.

using s3 as a NFC access card

I have an ISO 14443-3A NFC access card for university and im looking to use my S3 Frontier as my access to class and purchases on campus. i know the watch has nfc capabilities but is this possible?
I'm guessing it's possible, but you would need a custom app, and probably with root privileges.
The standard use is by Samsung Pay, which does not even replicate your existing card NFC but creates a new unique one instead.
I have to admit that this would be pretty cool, however. Things like transport cards etc which are becoming ubiquitous. There's definitely a market for this for an enterprising developer!
Do you know if there is any code documentation for that? On how to access the nfc in my gear s3 to emulate an nfc tag? Any documentation on tizen nfc?

Me? I did. Mostly just researching right now, didn't wanted to jump the gun and start before knowing if this is even remotely possible for me. It's definitely more complex then I expected, luckily I have some nfc knowledge, so this should come in handy. I also tried to find out if someone ever tried to do such a thing, had no luck with that though.
I guess the next step is to just build a custom app that utilizes the nfc in the watch, like a very simple app to learn how to work with it, and then develop it further to somehow magically pull it off and send the data of a copied tag from the watch to a reader.
I think it's possible though if I put in enough work, even if it's a bit out of my league tbh.

Thanks, though it's more complicated that it seems (Or that I though). I run into the same issues as some other a while back, not sure how to fix it, they never found a fix either, or at least they never posted it. It feels like a problem with me using a non rooted watch, because some operations of the api i am just not able to execute right. Guess my next step is to try it with a rooted watch, maybe that solves one of the many issues

I did find this site if it may be of any use.

I wish you luck with getting it to work
Hi, just wondering that did you make an app for NFC tag emulation eventually? Just got my new galaxy watch 3 and found the option with "choose an app to open with NFC", with Tizen os 5.5.0.1, it seems that Samsung has open the NFC permission for users.

Time for a new phone! Nothing else is worth the headache.
take your phone to pro, you are already sc***ed
And no a different phone doesn't stop her. I already did a burner phone with all new email addresses and my name no where on it

Try factory reset again, and not network reset

Great. Here we go. She is now back on. Messing with this forum for me. I doubt you all can see it but she is doubling up messages and moving my screen around. Crap. Oh well. If you want to email me. It's [email protected]
I did 20 to 25 full erase factory resets in a row. Still was back after the last one. I have 2 other phones she is in and 3 laptops as well.
how can you say so, plz send some screenshot. I dont think she did anything ...
I'm not exactly sure what you would like to see for a screen shot. I am running on a drive that is obviously emulated on my screen and supposedly I have 43 sensors on a fold 2. Maybe that's counting all the drivers for the sensors on my phone to connect to her phone along with all the sensors on her device. I know for a fact that at one point she had my OS running on an s21. She told me I wouldn't be able to prove it. I'm too stubborn to give up. Lol. Here is 2 screen shots. One is my hard disks and the other is my 42 sensors.
Cool story!

Yup. Sure thing. Whatever you say. It's very much real. It's actually very crazy. No one on here has offered me any real input. I'm not making this up. It is very much real. And although it is extremely difficult to do it is possible. Especially for someone that can program on the run and has professional and commercial experience. It's all good.
I'm not sure how she would manage to get on a burner phone too. I'm pretty sure it's possible to hack into a router & infect devices connected to it if you're using the same wifi network. You could try getting a new router & a new burner phone & don't connect any other devices you may have to the new router in case they're infected. And don't open emails from addresses you don't recognize. I would suggest going to geek squad or something like that rather than a forum though.
Ando do a malware scan on any other devices you have if possible. If you have another way to connect those devices to internet like tethering, you could try Trend Micro housecall. It's a free online malware scanner.

How do you know you're being hacked?
Tough to take this seriously and as fact.
But if you are, why haven't you gone to the authorities?
First of all this is fold 3 section not fold 2.
Secondly leave the phone to local police and tell them your wife or gf is hacking into your phone and let specialist att police go through your phone and if they find it's true they will grab evidence out of the phone and then arrest her for suspicious of hacking and they will use evidence when interviewing her and asking her that they found traces of her hacking the person's phone and such. Not last but least if higher up person decides to is do house warrant at her home so they will go home to her take all of her computer stuff including tablets and phones as part of investigation and they will check through all of them.
If you keep reseting your phone you are getting rid of all evidence from her and she will have lower chance of being sued in court and sentenced to jail for her criminal behaviour.
These sensors comes from your hardware nothing she's doing lmaoz. All smart phones have these sensors
