RMA for new Verizon Pixel - Google Pixel Questions & Answers

So my speakers have blown in my pixel and I contacted Google to get a replacement. Since I didn't buy it from the Google store they won't over night me a new phone, and said I have to return my phone before they will send me my replacement. This means I'll be without a device for up two weeks, depending on how the holidays effect things. My question is this, has anyone started receiving updated pixels yet? I don't want to send in my device that has been unlocked just to have it replaced by a device that I won't be able to unlock. Any info would be greatly appreciated

Surprised Google didn't tell you to contact VZ. I think you will still be OK. They are not shipping 7.1.1 yet and I bet it will be a long time, if ever, before they do.

Me too! I wish since I have to go through Google they would allow for the expedited shipping, but nope gotta send mine in first and be out a device until who knows when.

A backup device is always a smart thing to have.

Isn't there a Verizon store near you? Where do you live? You can also have them cross ship you, meaning you pay for the new one and they credit you when they receive it back. Have them bill the cross ship to your account if you don't have available credit or cash. Come on man, there is more than one way to do this. Use your ingenuity.

I asked the Google rep if that was an option and he said no! I had to have the Google store version to be shipped over night. no pay now we credit later given.

Hmmm.. So will they be sending you a Google version or Verizon? If you get a Verizon and it's on 7.1.1 you're SOL. I can't understand why Google would even offer to replace a Verizon phone.

Not sure why you are saying "if ever" implying there's a chance they might not ever ship with the 7.1.1 update which is not true at all. They 100% will eventually ship with it.. they didn't make a bunch of pixels and are never going to produce them again. I bet mid January we start to see them shipping with it

This whole thread makes no sense at all. If you have a Verizon phone why the heck would you call Google? Call Verizon and get it replaced. You are missing an important part of this in your explanation of the issue. As it stands no one can help you.

It sounds very weird. But then again, Apple will exchange warranty phones even if you buy from the carriers.

The operative word is, "trying" to be a hardware company. Apple already is. For many years and with revenue to match. Perhaps when Google makes as much money on the Pixel as Apple does on their iPhone brand then things will change. Also, there is only one device that runs IOS and many multiples that run Android. If you want Google to only allow Android on their own devices then I think you might be closer to what you are asking for.
As for your point about Verizon, have you called them for the replacement? That's your next step.

I'm wondering if you're responding to the wrong person. I'm not the one returning anything.... this time. That's OK. We're good.
To answer your last paragraph, yes, I've done plenty of returns with Verizon. Lol. I have over 40 lines with Big Red since 18 years ago. They treat me very well as far as returns and customer service in general. It's usually "no question asked" kind of thing.

New batch of g2x out.

I have been waiting for a me batch to do a replacement, so I called today and asked for a new batch replacement. He told me that they were sold out but I could get a new unit, everything included like the battery and box for a replacement from the manufacturer. He put in the order and it was already shipped by ups with tracking numbers. Also I have two replacements coming, so this is exciting. The rep did say that yes there were problems with the current batch and that a new one was coming,i just got lucky because I specifically asked for a new batch. Hope this helps clear up some questions. I will update once I get them to see if they are better.

Did you call T-Mobile or LG? Reason why I'm asking is that it seems like my USB port is broke on the phone. I bought it at cellhub and T-Mobile won't exchange it. Can I call LG directly??

If you didn't purchase the phone from T-Mobile, they wouldn't exchange it. You'd need to contact cellhub or LG.
I'm not sure which one to go with anymore. A fixed G2x with no lcd bleed sounds pretty enticing, but then there's the Sensation with the possibility of root on day one.. and Kal-El is on the way this winter. Android just isn't slowing down, lol.
sensation having root on day one is possible but I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you
Highly doubt this! I'm not doubting that you were told this but doubting the fact you'll get a phone from a new batch. I spoke to MANY T-mobile employees over the phone when asking for a replacement and I even asked for a new one from a new batch and they told me that unfortunately I get whatever is in the warehouse and there was no way to ensure this or specify what I'd like...
I understand that what the rep told me might or might not be true. But it sounded like t-mobile put the order through lg. T-mobile them selves do not have any phones,i am aware of that, but the processing was fast and I already have a tracking number. I am hopeful but not foolish. I will let u guys know as soon as it comes what the date on it is. The rep said that it will be a new phone not a refurbished one. is there any other way of knowing how the device would be from a new batch?

Same here. One even told me there was no way to get a refurbished one since it hasn't been out that long. I told her that was a complete lie and that I know of other people who got re-ferbs. Seems like every time I get told a lie or someone tries to roll my loyalty plan into a new plan it is by a female. No I just hang up and keep calling back until I get someone who sounds like myself. It might sound racist but it's the god damn truth.

Even I've gotten refurbished devices on several different occasions... I'm a female but in all honesty when I'm talking to the female t-mobile reps they seem to want to argue with me... I have however encountered a few good reps... I try to remain open minded but I have hung up on a few reps the dang "Chatty Cathy's" that think they know so much and wont shut up!

Seriously, I am really not trying to be a bigot, racist or sexist. I have encountered a couple females that knew what they were talking about and I didn't mean to lump all of the females in the same boat. What I really meant to say would come off racist but here goes anyway. As soon as I here a voice from a female that sounds like she's straight out of the ghetto I will hang up and call back. If the person sounds educated I will remain on the line and give them a chance.

Sorry, but you must not have looked very closely on their site. I went directly to lg.com, saw a link that said support (on the left), clicked on that, and saw a link for mobile phone support, clicked on that, and there are options for live chat, email or telephone support, all on the page. That took me about 5 seconds. Here is the link:

I thought I killed my G2x Tuesday and ordered a replacement. It was a refurb I guess (in a white box). It had really bad screen bleed so I just mailed it back.
I got my original one working anyway.

You are right. I got an RMA # from them now via chat. I have a own thread open for it now: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1096710
Only problem I'm facing now is that the phone is rooted and has ClockWorkMod installed. I can put the stock image back on and do a factory reset/format. But I will not be able to unroot or put stock recovery back on without USB. You think it's worth to send it in?

She smiles and says

I hope this is legit. I called AT&T regarding this yesterday and everyone I talked too had no clue what I was talking about and all of them think I want to unlock my phone to use on other carriers. I tried explaining I am talking about software development and if I wanted a phone for other carriers I would have bought the unlocked international version and assured them that I wont be leaving AT&T (10+ years with them) and all I get is, "Well we can unlock your phone today if you pay the contract fee of $325...." sigh.

I emailed HTC asking about the bootloader, and received this reply:
I understand that you are upset about not being able to unlock the bootloader on your device.
As is stated on the developer website:
“HTC is committed to assisting customers in unlocking bootloaders for HTC devices. However, certain models may not be unlockable due to operator (carrier) restrictions. We continue to work with our partners on this, check back often for ongoing updates about unlockable devices.”
I’m sorry, but this is outside of our control.

I ran into roughly the same thing with AT&T and the Skyrocket. AT&T/Samsung wouldn't give out unlock codes, kernel source, do anything for the dev community until the initial exclusivity period was over. Afterwards it was business as normal.
I'd imagine that the HOX is going to be the same. Once something "else" comes out, and the HOX isn't "one of the phones to have", they'll loosen the restrictions and will let us do what we want.
The Galaxy S3 is a bit different. It's not really "exclusive" to any carrier in the sense the Skyrocket was, so they probably had to change tactics a bit.
I also work for att. I haven't heard officially about the boot loader being unlocked, but the htc rep was in the store the other day dropping off signs for our HOX display and when I asked about it he said from what he has heard from people above him something was in the works to be able to unlock it, but he also stated nothing is official at this point.

Yeah, that's what our HTC rep said, as well. Nothing official or solid, just rumblings from within the higher-ups at HTC.

High resale price - why?

I just observed used Nexus 5 being sold for about $35 less than new within countries which have plenty of stock. Is this the "one born every minute" or something else?
example of used $350
and example of new $385
With OnePlus out in a few weeks for $349 plus unknown on tax and postage, and a few other low-priced unlocked handsets out there, I'm puzzled why Nexus 5 is holding its used price, and its coming under attack on its new price.
Because it's a great phone. Oneplus one may be too big for some. Plus it's a true developers phone. No one knows what the oneplus one sources / blobs for drivers will be like...

I avoid devices for a couple of months to let bugs discovered and resolved.
But that wasn't my question, i don't understand why someone would buy used for 90% of new? It's not like stock is hard to get new.

90% is cheaper than 100%. Not everyone is as fortunate as you to be able to pay 100%
"but it's only $35"
Someone could feed themselves for a week on that. Don't make the mistake of confusing being frugal with being dumb, or that everyone is the same as you

If they're starving they can do with a cheaper Nexus 4 for months.
Warranty is part of frugality, if my new N5 breaks I got some postage costs probably, but I'm less exposed financially than I am with used.
Well luckily for them, it's not your decision what they do with their money
Some people don't care about warranty. Some people know how to use warranty. It's not a problem for them, it's not a problem for you so don't worry yourself about people being "dumb". If you're asking "why isn't everyone like me?", well that's a philosophical question, probably better angled towards facebook

Because the phone is worth a lot more than $350 to most people. Similar phones cost $700 and the Oneplus isn't even being sold really.
Also countries that don't have the Play Store devices, their only choice is to buy them second hand and they are willing to pay as much as the retail cost.

I agree plus we don't know the potential scare story inside the OnePlus for at least month, it needs bulk ownership first from those who have another device already as their main phone.

Those living in other countries buy our used phones. $350 for a used N5 is still half the price they would pay for a new phone in their country.
Anyone living in North America can buy the phone for $350 new and have no incentive to buy it used for that price.

What makes you think people in the US are buying them used for more than they cost new? I would just assume they are all out of seas, but there is no real way of telling. Or is there?
If they are, they must not realize they can buy it new for the same price from Google. Or perhaps they are attempting a scam of some sort.

What makes you think people in the US are buying them used for more than they cost new? I would just assume they are all out of seas, but there is no real way of telling. Or is there?

The example I gave, don't know for sure who bought but a "I will buy it" message from someone saying in they are USA, and this after I had pointed out 10% more gets new offer. I'm just puzzled, doesn't make sense.
Oh well.

Strange for sure. Perhaps they saw extra value in a phone that has an unlocked bootloader and root access?

Yep, that's a reason in some countries, not sure of the reason within USA.

Even in the USA, sometimes it takes a while to get. And beyond that, it's still cheaper than any other alternatives, and some people prefer it to be cheaper. If it's 10% cheaper than retail, then that's still 10% they save.

No, there's nothing else. People can sell them for that price because people are willing to buy it for that price. That's what the demand is.
Maybe its the rumors this is the last nexus.
Plus good luck to those waiting for the pluseOne it sounds good on paper but who knows if they will ever get to the point of mass production.

Right...being that there may not be a Nexus 6, people are probably snapping these up now because they become a collector's item and a rare commodity.
Craigslist in my area has them going mint for 250 to 325

No more Nexus 5?

So I recent cracked my Nexus 5 and went to Sprint and T-Mobile to get a new one. (Looking to buy it out right to avoid waiting for a new one.) I was told at 2 sprint stores and 1 T-Mobile store that Google has stopped production on the phones and they are out of stock before finding what I was looking for at the last T-Mobile store. The last guy also told me they won't be getting anymore stock. So I'm imagining that the N6 is coming and coming real soon if they've stopped production in the N5. I know it usually comes around Oct-Nov but hopefully we get it sooner before later.
You really believe what people at T-Mobile/Sprint said?
Production of the Nexus 5 hasn't stopped and can still be purchased thru google.
You should of slapped them in the face for saying such idiotic things lol
A google rep told me the same thing

They have support reps for their hardware.
As far as the rep being "hush hush" about the N6 It's probably because the rep didn't say anything about it. Honestly, those guys don't know anything other than what the public knows about upcoming devices.

There's really no secrets lol. I think the N6 is that posters belief as to the reason why it is not being produced anymore. There's really no secrets about the new nexus, it comes every year at about the same time. Everyone starts speculating in february but every year it gets released at the same time
i was talking to her about an RMA, You can ask them yourself if you like,

Like someone else said Google does have rep for their hardware which is who you call when you need support for your device you purchased from the play store.
I would think that a T-Mobile rep would have a good idea of their inventory. Just because Google has some for sell doesn't necessarily mean they are still making them, you see there is this thing called back stock. I'm not saying that the T-Mobile/Sprint reps are right but to hear it from 4 different reps at 4 different stores from 2 different carriers leads me to think maybe, just maybe.

The Tmobile stores around me (4 of them) still have the phone on display and in stock and on their site. Maybe you had someone who is misinformed or maybe they didn't get stock and it wasn't communicated properly.

There is a Redditch thread confirming what I was told and there are now rumors of Google announcing the Nexus 6(?) In about 2 1/2 weeks. Maybe I was and I'm not saying that I wasn't but I managed to find a Nexus at a store which says back stock to me.

It could also simply mean they are not replacing stock in certain countries. You would have to be in contact with LG contracted factories in China to know if they are still making them or not, I doubt T-Mobile, Sprint, or Google reps have these contacts.
You know what! You're absolutely right. Why would they want to keep the people selling and supporting their device if they are going to be selling their product anymore... That wouldn't make any sense.
They probably want to push certain markets to get their new products, but that is not going to work for all markets. Picking up a brand new N5 in China or Hongkong is very easy right now. They are all over the place. I would imagine places with issues would be North America, Western Europe, and Aus/NZ. If you put two and two together, they want rich countries to purchase their new device but at the same time understand most of the worlds markets will not go for the new device because of funds.
They can make more money by pushing the N6 on the US, than by continuing to stock the N5. The opposite is true in other places. Ending the N5 will mean they lose money.

Carries in the states make almost no money on phone sales. They get their money from subscribers. They could care less what phone you are using.
I think that there is a very good chance neither Sprint or T-mobile are still offering the Nexus 5 (aside from in-store stock still available), but Google Play has all models and sizes in-stock at the moment. I don't think the phone has been killed just yet. I certainly hope the Nexus X is only a few weeks off, but I don't believe it yet.
I'm a rep at sprint that phone went end of life like the day of the iPhone 6 launch I was so mad that they did that I sell the nexus 5 a lot

What an experience! :(

Well what can I say, a complete farce from start to finish.
From pre ordering to the numerous phone calls and emails to cancel my order and then to try and return my phone for a full refund.
In the end I had to get the police, Santander bank and trading standards involved to get my money back.
I had to wait 3 weeks for my order to ship to me in which time they wouldn't cancel my order even though the phone wasn't built or shipped.
They then said they would send out a pre paid label for me to return the phone, 6 times I had to request this and they never sent the labels while the 14 day returns time scale ran out due to this! I rang DHL and they told me no request was ever made for a returns label!
This left me with no option but to contact the police ,my bank and trading standards, all of whom were brilliant and helped me out :good:, my bank did a charge bank and refunded me my money back. All emails that I sent and received was shown to the above and once Motorola found out I had contacted the above they refused to respond to me anymore
I now have a brand new and sealed moto x style sat on my shelf , I have my money back and I have done all I can to return the phone, I don't know what to do with the phone now?
This was my 1st experience with Motorola, I have read similar experiences , and no doubt that there are lots of happy customers. How can they treat customers like this.
Motorolas loss was Nexus 6p gain
Interesting, I got my return label in about an hour because I requested it online. No phone call was needed. I didn't send my phone back but I could. From what I have read that is the way to do this, go online, submit a return within a few hours you will have an email with the label, end of the issue. I think you will eventually have to send it back or more legal issues may occur.
Seems to me that the phone support is poor so just don't go through them
I wasn't aware you could request online, but I had numerous emails and phone calls asking for a returns label that should have been noted.
Yes i have the kept the phone in safe keeping until they ask for it back!
Did you check your junk mail folder? After 6 requests I feel like they would have sent at least one label.

I've heard of others who had this issue, but just go online and you'll have your label before lunch. Omit the problem (phone support) and you wont have any issues.

doesn't matter at this point. Within the 14 days you can use the device as a daily driver so to them it doesn't matter. If I were you I would play with it. Just don't break it lol
Man, I feel for ya. I hate seeing stories like this. A horrible customer service experience can completely ruin what would otherwise be a nice device experience. Glad you got your money back in any case.
Have you considered giving the device another shot since you now have it? You'd have to send the money back again, but you wouldn't have to wait on shipping.
What made you not want the phone in the first place? Delays in shipping?

If it were me, I'd leave it sealed for 90 days at least. If at that point there is no dispute to the charge back from the bank, no contact from Motorola, etc, you should be safe to say you have a free phone. Keep in mind, just because you got your money back doesn't mean Motorola isn't disputing it on their end. And the bank could at any moment take that money back. If it comes to that, you could need to provide a sealed box device. If you can't, you could be out of luck.
Right now you have a free phone. If you sit on it for a few months, and nothing more comes of it, you still have a free phone.

You know, reading this post just made me decide to go ahead and unlock my device (that I've had for a week) for rooting/moding. I was on the fence because if I unlocked it I would have lost my warranty. But knowing I will never have to deal with Moto Customer Service is a good thing. I won't wanna lose my phone for weeks if something goes wrong anyway, so I'll be better with my local repair shop.
My previous phone, Galaxy S4, developed the dreaded swollen battery. And they wanted me to send it back for a replacement, instead of just sending me a battery. So that makes me not want to deal with customer service at all.
Sorry to hear about your experience. though.

Im intending to keep the phone sealed now, i dont think i have heard the last of Motorola support! Lets see how long it takes for them to send out a label now i have my money back!
I got full refund after having phone for like 5 days, unlocked boot loader and all, no issue at all, then bought the bigger internal memory one, which I should have from beginning. i think you go a bad luck kinda deal my friend
Sorry you feel that way...

For me, the prepaid return label was FedEx, even though the package originally came DHL. Might want to check with them.
This is why I bought mine from Amazon, but I'm keeping it.

Motorola contracts FedEx for the return. Not DHL. You went the wrong route.
Also, make sure your Motorola account has the correct email address. I used Google Plus login when I created the Motorola account and it showed some weird email address when I check my Motorola profile. I had to go in there and updated to the correct email address.
You will want to send the phone back. Contact any FedEx retail location, give them your address and they may have your label on file. If you decide to keep the phone, Motorola might bill you for it. If you don't pay, they will send you to collection. Good luck.
