No more Nexus 5? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I recent cracked my Nexus 5 and went to Sprint and T-Mobile to get a new one. (Looking to buy it out right to avoid waiting for a new one.) I was told at 2 sprint stores and 1 T-Mobile store that Google has stopped production on the phones and they are out of stock before finding what I was looking for at the last T-Mobile store. The last guy also told me they won't be getting anymore stock. So I'm imagining that the N6 is coming and coming real soon if they've stopped production in the N5. I know it usually comes around Oct-Nov but hopefully we get it sooner before later.

You really believe what people at T-Mobile/Sprint said?
Production of the Nexus 5 hasn't stopped and can still be purchased thru google.
You should of slapped them in the face for saying such idiotic things lol

They have support reps for their hardware.
As far as the rep being "hush hush" about the N6 It's probably because the rep didn't say anything about it. Honestly, those guys don't know anything other than what the public knows about upcoming devices.

There's really no secrets lol. I think the N6 is that posters belief as to the reason why it is not being produced anymore. There's really no secrets about the new nexus, it comes every year at about the same time. Everyone starts speculating in february but every year it gets released at the same time

i was talking to her about an RMA, You can ask them yourself if you like,

Like someone else said Google does have rep for their hardware which is who you call when you need support for your device you purchased from the play store.
I would think that a T-Mobile rep would have a good idea of their inventory. Just because Google has some for sell doesn't necessarily mean they are still making them, you see there is this thing called back stock. I'm not saying that the T-Mobile/Sprint reps are right but to hear it from 4 different reps at 4 different stores from 2 different carriers leads me to think maybe, just maybe.

The Tmobile stores around me (4 of them) still have the phone on display and in stock and on their site. Maybe you had someone who is misinformed or maybe they didn't get stock and it wasn't communicated properly.

There is a Redditch thread confirming what I was told and there are now rumors of Google announcing the Nexus 6(?) In about 2 1/2 weeks. Maybe I was and I'm not saying that I wasn't but I managed to find a Nexus at a store which says back stock to me.

It could also simply mean they are not replacing stock in certain countries. You would have to be in contact with LG contracted factories in China to know if they are still making them or not, I doubt T-Mobile, Sprint, or Google reps have these contacts.

You know what! You're absolutely right. Why would they want to keep the people selling and supporting their device if they are going to be selling their product anymore... That wouldn't make any sense.

They probably want to push certain markets to get their new products, but that is not going to work for all markets. Picking up a brand new N5 in China or Hongkong is very easy right now. They are all over the place. I would imagine places with issues would be North America, Western Europe, and Aus/NZ. If you put two and two together, they want rich countries to purchase their new device but at the same time understand most of the worlds markets will not go for the new device because of funds.
They can make more money by pushing the N6 on the US, than by continuing to stock the N5. The opposite is true in other places. Ending the N5 will mean they lose money.

Carries in the states make almost no money on phone sales. They get their money from subscribers. They could care less what phone you are using.

I think that there is a very good chance neither Sprint or T-mobile are still offering the Nexus 5 (aside from in-store stock still available), but Google Play has all models and sizes in-stock at the moment. I don't think the phone has been killed just yet. I certainly hope the Nexus X is only a few weeks off, but I don't believe it yet.

I'm a rep at sprint that phone went end of life like the day of the iPhone 6 launch I was so mad that they did that I sell the nexus 5 a lot

Preorder Captivate

Does anyone know if AT&T is going to allow you to preorder this phone? I really want to be guaranteed one on Sunday!
I was wondering the same thing. I was also wondering if other merchants like Best Buy would carry the phone on launch day.
I'm just gonna be there at 11am when the store opens on Sunday. I went and asked about it a couple days ago at the local ATT store and they had no idea they were even going to carry it. Kind of dissapointing really, but that just means they haven't been hyping the phone, and I'll be able to get one for sure
An AT&T customer service rep said "no" to pre-ordering. I'll just order it online on Sunday. Why risk having to pay a store's re-stocking fee in the event you want to return / exchange it? Not being negative - just realistic.
It will available. Its not a Iphone. Only tech savvy people like us will be interested in these type of phones. No pre order necessary. I don't understand how and why people are willing to stand in a line for hours for crap like that.
less hype = loyal customer base and less teenagers showing off their new phone and complaining it isn't like the iphone >.> I seriously hate it when younger kids (10~14) have a smart phone and barely know how to use it, ahem I'm talking about you grade schoolers with blackberries
still awaiting confirmation if it is 350$ but I'm really hoping that it isn't sold out when i attempt to get one by the end of next week =[
less hype = less stock = one phone per store.
You telling me there's no person in a 5 mile radius around me that doesnt also want the captivate?

LOL no one carries one unit per store.
I called 4 BestBuy stores around me and none of them know if they will have it Sunday. Most of them said to call back later to see if they came in on their truck this week. Doesn't surprise me AT&T stores don't know about it. The one by me, I told them they had the Aria, but they didn't believe me until another guy came out of the back room with one and said "Is this what you were talking about?" wtf?

I've chatted with AT&T reps online who, when asked about the Captivate, had no idea what I was talking about. And this is a product that's 5 days away. Let's cut to the chase. My experience has shown that - generally speaking - we know a lot more about their product line than they do. It would be a good thing if their employees shared our passion.

I went to an ATT store near me today and the lady there said that they had gotten their demo but not the shipment. She said that she didn't normally get excited by phones, but this one she was pumped about. She had to check with someone else to confirm the Sunday date, though I knew about that, and she said that they didn't really know the price off contract. She also said they usually get their shipments on Wed or Thurs with the info about the phone that they need to know.

I went to my local corporate store today and they wouldn't show me their demo and said they had no stock to sell. I went out to my car and called the next closest store and they told me the same thing!
I explained at the first store how a few people online had seen them in the store and even a few had purchased units and she told me if they had stock they would probably sell it but they had no stock and were HOPING they had a few for Sunday.

I wouldn't put up with it if I were in upper-level management at AT&T. Either you give a damn or get out. The store managers should be ashamed that some of their employees are uninformed and, worse, uncaring. And the district managers should be ashamed...and so on. If we have to educate them about their product line then we should be receiving a portion of their salaries. During a chat session today with a CSR at AT&T I sent him the link about the upcoming release of the Captivate.
There are no excuses.
AT&T is making a huge mistake by not hyping this phone. They obviously don't know how great of a product they have and to be the first in the US to release it! I realize they are trying to stay close with Apple, but come on!! Unleash the beast! Give the consumers what they want! Oh yeah and Apple, LMAO... http://news.cnet.com/8301-13579_3-20010212-37.html

Haven't we known the off-contract price for a week or so now? Maybe I just dreamed it, who knows
I had to ask around at three stores before I found one where they even knew that the Captivate was coming out (the first two had no clue when it was coming out, if AT&T was even sending them any, or when). At the third store though, the guy was awesome and let me sign up to be notified as soon as they get it sometime next week (hoping for Sunday or Monday), and he said he'd put one aside for me.
I do hope Wirefly/Amazon puts the Captivate for sale online for under $200, like how they're selling the Aria for free with a contract, but I'll get it in store if not.

Funny thing happened at AT&T store

Been into two stores now looking at the one x and when the rep asks how they can help me I tell them I am there to look at the one x and they don't say another word after that. It's too bad cause I really want to try and talk one of them into selling me one early. It almost seems like they brave no idea about them at all. I asked if they had a gray one I could look at and the girl today looked at me like I had three heads.

Yeah, same thing here. I spotted the phone from across the store, and when the lady asked if she could help I told her I was here to look at the HOX, she ignored that and thought I was talking about the Beats radio that it was attached to.
My local store kept trying to lead me to the ifruit 4s display lol.

I called two local AT&T stores this morning. One said they had a demo unit on the floor. The other said I could play with one if I came in.
I went to the store that said I could play with one and a sales rep handed me his. Said he had had it for a week. It was the white model. It was pretty dirty. I hope that isn't common.
I'll post my impression plus pics once I hit 8 posts. I'll be posting a link to where I wrote about the One X in a different forum.
Called my AT&T store this morning, they said they had it out on display. Went in tonight after school, and they guy said something about how it "wasn't released yet" and it had been "pulled by corporate" or something and they weren't allowed to have them out on display until the 6th. Shady as hell, and now I don't know if I want to pre-order and pick it up there, who knows what's going on with those idiots?
the manager at my local corp. store let me check it out then said "just pretend that you didn't see it yet"

At&t reps
I always hate it when I seem to know a lot more than the at&t sales reps. They are the ones selling it and should honestly know more than me! I not that big of a phone geek either.
I also don't understand how a few people got it early. I called two AT&T stores and both said they won't have any stock in until May 6. ):

Yeah most are clueless and its sad they dont even know that places like XDA exist. I am lucky that our local corp store manager does know XDA and is a regular poster here though I am not supposed to tell
I had the total opposite experience at the Rogers store last week. Told the guy I was looking for a One X and he's all "yeah, great phone bro. I know we got some in, just let me check."
Turns out there weren't any in when I walked into the store, but a shipment was actually delivered while the guy was looking. Now that's some good timing. I may have been the first one in Toronto to pick one up! (If anyone got one earlier than 1:30pm EST on April 20th, then I guess you beat me to it.)
I went into my local official AT&T store today to see if they had one on display and fortunately they did. It was set up playing MOG to display the Beats Audio speaker they are selling. The sales rep I dealt with knew what was up, he even knew the release date. We had a good chat about the phone and how nice it was. I have a GSM Galaxy Nexus right now, and I will miss stock Android but Sense 4 is really not too bad. I had 2 updates with AT&T burning a hole in my wallet so I went ahead and did the preorder. I know I could have saved $50 to get it elsewhere, but I have had some bad experiences in the past getting my unlimited data plan stripped off of my plan when I got a phone for cheap at Costco. Now that I have unlimited LTE I don't think I will have to worry about plan changes for a long time. I decided it was worth $50 to not have to go through the hassle I went through last year when I upgraded to an Inspire and spent a month trying to get my unlimited data put back on my plan. The only bad thing is that on the AT&T map I live about 4 miles out of LTE, but at least I work in an LTE area.
So now May 4th (or hopefully sooner) I will have the phone with my unlimited LTE attached sitting on my doorstep.

Thought I had replied to this thread. Weird.
Any way, Best Buy is sometimes known to throw a page up with an inflated price until they get the official price for it. I'm hoping that's the case this time too. Especially since Sprint doesn't even have a page for this phone that I can find let alone a price.
Otherwise, $900 is way too much for this phone and I won't be getting it. Even $800 is a bit much.

Yeah I think they did this with the LG G5 too before that was released earlier this year. Also, Sprint is going to be doing a promotion where you can trade in any smartphone with mopre than 10$ in trade in value for 200$ in credit, although that might only be for if you get the phone in an easy pay or lease option and not a full buyout thing.
I am waiting on T-Mobile for their page to go live for pre-order. If the price is that same as on the other carriers, I will have to stick with my V10 or try out the Axon 7 til the price drops below $650.
Also, if the carrier doesn't offer the B&O headphones ... I will have to pass.

It is already confirmed that LG is offering pre-orders in the US a pair of the H3's. As far as I can tell, they haven't really excluded any major carriers on the offer. Not sure if those who don't pre-order will get them or not. I assume "quantities are limited". So you either have to bite the bullet and get in on the pre-order if the headphones are important to you or wait for the price to drop and forgo them if price is more important. Hopefully the price won't be so bad though. I have heard Tmo pre-orders could open on the 12th (already passed though), 14th, 17th or 20th.

Given QA/QC problems of the past for LG, and the MSRP...I don't think they plan on worrying about selling many.
hahaha dude, why are you here? I legit want to know. you're just negative and a buzz kill to everybody who's interested in this phone. you're not buying it? great! we won't have to see topics of your complaining. why not just go find another forum here for whatever magical phone you want to buy instead of the v20 already? Well, we don't have an actual MSRP from any other carrier yet besides AT&T. There's still a slight chance that the other carriers could undercut AT&T. Hopefully. The only place I hear about QA/QC problems with LG is in hardcore Android forums and it only really seems to be a few very vocal people. Certainly, I'll keep my eyes open but I'm willing to ride the odds in favor of no issues. But if Sprint can't put the phone in with the rest of their phones when they have the iPhone plastered everywhere on their site, they'll never sell it then wonder why. Then again, having met the Sprint CEO in the very bar I'm sitting in right now, I'm not surprised. Doesn't seem any carrier is really trying all that hard though. AT&T has their demo model off in another corner away from the other LG phones in the stores I visited. T-Mobile has it listed on their site with the other LG phones but that's about all of the exposure it gets from them at the moment. The reps are definitely psyched for this phone though.

RMA for new Verizon Pixel

So my speakers have blown in my pixel and I contacted Google to get a replacement. Since I didn't buy it from the Google store they won't over night me a new phone, and said I have to return my phone before they will send me my replacement. This means I'll be without a device for up two weeks, depending on how the holidays effect things. My question is this, has anyone started receiving updated pixels yet? I don't want to send in my device that has been unlocked just to have it replaced by a device that I won't be able to unlock. Any info would be greatly appreciated

I don't want to send in my device that has been unlocked just to have it replaced by a device that I won't be able to unlock. Any info would be greatly appreciated

The ones from Google on 7.1.1 won't be locked, only the VZ ones.

Surprised Google didn't tell you to contact VZ. I think you will still be OK. They are not shipping 7.1.1 yet and I bet it will be a long time, if ever, before they do.

Me too! I wish since I have to go through Google they would allow for the expedited shipping, but nope gotta send mine in first and be out a device until who knows when.
A backup device is always a smart thing to have.

Isn't there a Verizon store near you? Where do you live? You can also have them cross ship you, meaning you pay for the new one and they credit you when they receive it back. Have them bill the cross ship to your account if you don't have available credit or cash. Come on man, there is more than one way to do this. Use your ingenuity.

I asked the Google rep if that was an option and he said no! I had to have the Google store version to be shipped over night. no pay now we credit later given.
Hmmm.. So will they be sending you a Google version or Verizon? If you get a Verizon and it's on 7.1.1 you're SOL. I can't understand why Google would even offer to replace a Verizon phone.

Not sure why you are saying "if ever" implying there's a chance they might not ever ship with the 7.1.1 update which is not true at all. They 100% will eventually ship with it.. they didn't make a bunch of pixels and are never going to produce them again. I bet mid January we start to see them shipping with it

This whole thread makes no sense at all. If you have a Verizon phone why the heck would you call Google? Call Verizon and get it replaced. You are missing an important part of this in your explanation of the issue. As it stands no one can help you.

It sounds very weird. But then again, Apple will exchange warranty phones even if you buy from the carriers.

Just curious why you thought so, especially when Google is trying to be a hardware company now.

The operative word is, "trying" to be a hardware company. Apple already is. For many years and with revenue to match. Perhaps when Google makes as much money on the Pixel as Apple does on their iPhone brand then things will change. Also, there is only one device that runs IOS and many multiples that run Android. If you want Google to only allow Android on their own devices then I think you might be closer to what you are asking for.
As for your point about Verizon, have you called them for the replacement? That's your next step.

I'm wondering if you're responding to the wrong person. I'm not the one returning anything.... this time. That's OK. We're good.
To answer your last paragraph, yes, I've done plenty of returns with Verizon. Lol. I have over 40 lines with Big Red since 18 years ago. They treat me very well as far as returns and customer service in general. It's usually "no question asked" kind of thing.

The speaker distortion issue is a software problem and has been resolved with at least one rom. Are you sure the speaker is blown?

Why HTC treats its US customers with no respect?

I'm just feeling disappointed as HTC does not treat customers with respect and it's not offering what every other phone makers would offer - a type c to 3.5mm converter and an accurate release date, which are both costless but important to customers.
I've been a fan of HTC since I got my HD2 many years ago, but this year I'm kind of disappointed with their attitude to its fans.
I am in Canada and is like the US , I still waiting mine.
Actually, I didn't want to react to it at all. But from what you've said, I have to write it ironically. You already had $100 discount codes, we Europeans didn't even have anything like an HTC Club. You already received promotional gifts when we didn't even know there was such a thing from HTC. You didn't open your mouths back then and said all fans should get the same options/discounts, so don't complain now that things are going the other way around. Honestly: everything balances out in life, and now we have just drawn the lucky one.
In general I say here in all frankness, just leave this America first attitude at home, and think sensibly for once. It is fair that we finally enjoy the benefits that you have enjoyed for years. This year it's just Europe first. Maybe there will come a time when it will again be the other way around.

Seriously this is pretty melodramatic because you had to wait a few extra days to get a phone.. HTC never made any promises about the release date to any country. Some regions of Europe got it early, lucky them. HTC doesn't owe you ****.
Knowing HTC phones and US carriers I can almost guarantee that HTC is taking every second it can before shipping to the US to ensure full compatibility with Verizon, T-Mo, and AT&T. There have been issues with the past couple of HTC phones so it makes sense they are trying to get it right.
I am eagerly awaiting my day one pre-order too, but it will get here when it gets here. HTC isn't treating you unfairly or discriminating against you.

Hi, I think you mistook what I said. The $100s coupons and gifts are what European customers get, not American or other regions' users. There's no HTC Club in the U.S but Europe.
I didn't mean US should get everything first. Actually I'm not American. I live and work in the US at the moment though. And I don't think I have the US first attitude.
The reason why I thought the phone would be released in the U.S first is that HTC held MeetU events in the U.S. first. I went to the one in SF and had an opportunity of getting hands on the phone, and at that time when I placed my order it said June 7th would be the release date.
I'm just feeling disappointed as HTC does not treat customers with respect and it's not offering what every other phone makers would offer - the converter and an accurate release date.
Amazon.com has had a solid release date this whole time. Originally, it was June 7 when HTC said the U12+ would ship in June. Now, Amazon says June 21 when HTC now says will ship in July. As for your other questions, HTC barely has a presence in the US anymore. When Samsung took over the market share, HTC stopped being carried in US stores (besides Sprint for the U11... and 10? I forget). I personally just don't think the US is a major priority for HTC anymore. Without being in stores, it's really difficult to move units... And maybe they stopped trying to get into US stores because it was costing more than the profit they were actually making before? The same thing happened with Blackberry. They've been struggling (as we all know) and haven't been in all US carriers either.

the only reason they arnt a main flagship carrier in the US is because of bad/lack of advertising while samsung constanly has consistent S series phone line while HTC has been all over the place with naming of phones and Samsung runs ads on television and youtube constanly, HTC just needs better marketing out in the US market, also my few cents here but can all the EU/Germany people cool down when someone from US posts they have a right in their own country to speak freely no matter how you may view their thoughts, so plz be respectful, all the original poster was saying how he feels that germany and all the EU markets are getting the phones first when the US market still hasnt gotten theirs still and even im kinda sad about that as well, it has nothing to do with entilement it has to do with a sense of fairness

Amazon still says June 21 for ship date - I just checked- at least in the US

USA is one of the regions where HTC U12+ was earliest announced and the SF and NYC MeetU events were the first two chances where fans had the opportunity of getting hands on the new phone. I thought HTC would treat US customers seriously, but by now it has done everything to make us unhappy instead.
1. European fans have been receiving their phones since last week or earlier, but in the US there's not even an accurate date.
2. European HTC Club members enjoy a fairly good discount, while US TeamHTC members get nothing at all.
3. European HTC Club members get a types-c to 3.5mm converter for free, but US customers will have to buy one by their own...
I really can't understand HTC's marketing strategy. At least it should treat all customers equally, right?

Before I cancelled my preorder, I was to pay £629 with the HTC club discount. With a quick search online, $799.99 is £608. So that pays for the free dongle we get.
As for customer support, my bank card was cloned, and HTC have been just about useless helping me change it to my new card, so I won't get my preorder at all, so I cancelled it. At least I emailed them to cancel it and they haven't replied.
I agree customers should be treated equally where possible, but unfortunately HTC are almost sunk and doesn't seem they have the means to do so anymore.

There seems to be a missunderstanding between the two of you. The HTC Club discount for the U12+ is the first discount many countries have ever gotten in Europe. The US, on the other hand, got several discounts and gifts*, in the past. That's what @5m4r7ph0n36uru is referring to.

this shouldn't be any surprise, HTC is pulling out of the US market...no longer carried by any of the carriers & not even supported on Sprint. HTC canned most of their US employees.
Enjoy a new HTC product in the US while you can, the end is near!

I think the network situation is gonna get better with tmobile/sprint merger as everyone has moved to GSM from CDMA and sprint is the last remaining CDMA carrier so i only expect things to get better after its finalized as i used to be on sprint and am happy with tmobile, i didnt make the move right away tho i tried at&t/criket wireless and it sucked and turned out to be more expensive when u want data, where tmobile im part of a company plan and get "unlimited" data where i only got slowed down if i needed to tether from an isp internet outage and was downloading games from steam but when i was it was usable after that still and phone call coverage wise its more usable than when i was on sprints, also are you gonna be making a debloated rom OMJ for this phone really liked the bad boyz rom for when i had the M7 when i had sprint?
