I've noticed that, after my Nougat update, it takes a lot longer for X-Reality or Super Vivid to "kick in" when viewing images in the Album app. It always had a slight delay but the the delay is now a ridiculous 5 seconds before it locks in when selecting an image to view with either of those two modes turned on.
It seems worse with 20-23 megapixel images.
Is anyone else experiencing this?
I've tried downgrading the Album app, clearing app data, etc. No effect. It appears to be a system-level bug.

I experienced the same thing when I updated to Nougat. The pictures in the album app are on my SD card so it could be a memory issue with sd cards and nougat. My delay would be more like 8 seconds. So I ended up going back to Marshmallow and the problem disappeared. The weird thing is my SD card is the Sony SR-128UZA rated at 95MB/s read and 90MB/s and even though Android doesnt use the full speed bc of hardware it should still be fast since it preformed very good on Marshmallow. This is why I also think it is a system level problem. Do u have an SD card in your XZ or are you using internal storage?
I just performed a test with two 23mp camera images (same shot). One was on internal storage and the other was on my SD card. Both took the same (long) time to lock in.
I wonder if a clean flash of Nougat would clear this bug...

look out, this bug it happen only if you see the photo horizontally, if you see the photo vertically the xreality kick in more fast

I dont know if a clean flash will help because I updated using Xperia Companion and right after updating I did a factory reset and the problem still came up so maybe an update should fix it.
Same here. Clear install. So I also think this is Software related and needs to be fixed by a future update.
Same problem on my Xperia X Compact (Italian firmware). I hope in a future fix. I noticed that the problem doesn't exist in other galleries app not Sony (i'm using Gallery A+ by AtomicAdd right now), but I think is because isn't compatible with X-Reality and Super Vivid modes...right?
also same problem here with any Nougat firmware i tryed.thats sutch a bull**** from sony its my fourth phone from xperia line and its going down and down for them since xperia z5...i doubt that they will fix it cuz they are lamers who dont care at all.
Same here. On another note, should it work on other apps or only on the Albums app?

Hi folks, it seems to be a rare issue but it is drving me crazy every time I use the camera.
I am on stock not rooted kitkat 4.4.2, the issue is only seen after update the google camera to the latest version with the new ui change.
Now every time I launch the camera app, the phone could hang up for 1 to 3 seconds without doing anything (low possibility). There is a guarantee (100%) that the phone will lag for more than 2 seconds when I take the first two photos in normal mode (the screen just freeze at the time when the photo swiping animation takes place after hit the capture button). Also, it is very often to see the similar lag when I browse the recent photos in the camera app.
I tried to reinstall the latest update; clear the app data + cache, but neither works for me. Now I just go back to the old camera, all the freezes/lags are gone!
Please can anyone suggest some possible solutions? I really like the new camera ui. Thanks!

My new camera app is pretty buggy too actually, random freezes, etc...
I think it'll get better with time.

For some God forsaken reason, the camera in my N5 is a pile of crap. Let me list the issues:
(Note I'm using the stock Google Camera app and have tried CM Focal with identical results).
Switching from Rear to Front camera takes a stupid amount of time, usually winds up crashing the Camera app altogether.
Switching from Camera to Video results in a grey bar, 1/10th the width of the screen, spanning the entire length of the right side of the screen. The app usually crashes after this.
Videos usually can't record, the screen freezes, forcing me to hit the back or home button.
When videos do record, they're corrupt and cant be played on any windows machine or in any program.
Sound quality is laughable. (wasn't when I first bought the phone with 4.4.2 on it)
Snapchat usually can't even launch the camera and asks to restart the app. Usually results in me having to reboot the phone.
When the camera does work in Snapchat, pictures come out fine, but switching cameras usually reproduces the issue mentioned above. Videos, however record only 50% of the time. The times they dont, the screen freezes, resulting me having to restart the app.
When videos do actually record in Snapchat they have about a 50/50 of being unable to be played back, resulting in the error message: "Can't play this video".
On rare occasions, using the camera in Snapchat results in the screen flickering rapidly for a few seconds and then the phone reboots... The last time this occured it wiped all the data to Facebook, Snapchat, and EvolveSMS.
These symptoms exist in both Vanilla KitKat 4.4.4 and CM11 (Snapshot M8). Yes, I have reinstalled Snapchat. I've also tried toggling on/off HDR+ to no avail.
My Camera is basically useless and it's extremely annoying. It has even caused crashes that have wiped data from my phone. Hardware related? Software related? I'm really at a loss here... Any help is appreciated.
Well first try a complete fresh install to see if it's just software related

Factory reset, wiped case and dalvik, freshly installed CM11 last night before bed. Same symptoms exist as they did before.
The stock camera crashes when I:
-enable RAW
-select slow shutter
-select a shutter speed of 2, 4 or 8s in camera settings
The annoying part is that I have to reboot every time to fix the camera as it seems to be unable to connect again after crashing. Is there any way to fix this without rebooting? There is a play store app but it doesn't work.
Edit:
If you want, vote for the issue.

Is this with the new update that came out today?

Question:
Stock?
Bootloader unlocked?
Rooted?
Custom Rom?
Custom Kernel?
Any tweaks to the device other than stock?
I'm just curious...if stock users are having trouble, or is it just the tweakers?
Have you tried a factory reset? And as above, any mods or running 100% stock?
Rooted with stock rom and stock kernel. Clearing the camera cache doesn't help.
I'll try a factory reset as some users don't seem to have the bug.
I've noticed that too. I've also noticed two more things:
- 4k UHD + RAW = bad time. As soon as I hit record it gives me a black screen, I stop the recording and it freezes. I have to force close the camera app to be able to do anything with it again. Oddly enough, 4k DCI works fine.
- Slow-mo video + RAW = choppy. The video seems to be playing back at a super low frame rate. Everything seems to have a lot more motion blur too.
Using raw any time there is low light results in camera crash as well

rooted, with stock everything. after taking 8 sec slow shutter, when saving it lags, then black screen then crash. then when i reopen all the menu still there but black screen. anything i do from there it will just crash.
I have the same problem as the poster above.
Any clue?
The other problems described here were correct with the latest update.
Anyone with anything on this?
Same issue here. Will it be fixed ever?
Yep, this has been a known bug from day 1 bro.
Just to put my 10 cents, same problem here even in Auto mode.
This is the only issue I have with my phone now. Hoping CM12 fixes it.
Hello, in CM12, as says Spectre, camera works well, but is there way, to fix this problem in latest official CM13.1, or Lineage14? Thanks much
edit: well, sorry, in CM12.1 problem still here, seems aka HW problem... overheating?
No working solutions? ((
Hi there, when i take a picture on my phone and then i click the little box in the camera app to preview it, it takes like 3/4sec (minimum) to fully load a picture and around 6 sec (maximum). even if i flicked straight back to the picture it takes a couple of seconds. similar issue with the album app. its like it loads the picture in installments, section by section.. however, google photos and any other third party app seems to load it (in one go) within a second. has anyone else experienced this?
i have been through the whole factory reset, software update, clearing camera data/cache, xperia companion tool repair and it seems to be a re-occuring issue..
Yes it's really annoying, and I've seen this since album app on Xperia T or even older. Nobody in Sony thought that they could update this app to load photos instantly, as the hardware now allows that without a hussle...
Have anyone else been getting a "Camera fatal error" message with the camera app crashing repeatedly, also saying "can't connect to camera device". I have reset the phone and setup as new, deleted the app cache and data. So far nothing helps. It's random, I can't replicate it with specific action but it's super annoying. Yesterday the camera app crashed about 5 times in a row before it got usable again.
there is multiple people reporting this at other sites - so far no resolution, even on google support forum. Do you think it's a defective hardware or something that can be fixed with next update? I really like the pictures from the phone and how super smooth it is when working but the entire system is half baked. Many features not working or different apps crashing. this is my first google phone and I am quite surprised to have some many software issues as I thought google is firstly software company.
Yes it happens to me often as well. I think it's a common problem especially if you use the camera frequently.
That's the first I've heard of this and even read about it on the web. I use my camera a lot and so doubt it's to do with usage.
Hopefully it's not a hardware issue for you!
Me too
I am getting this problem as well. Also on occasion, I get purple bars across the image. After much frustration and a system wipe, it was still happening so Google sent me a replacement.
Video camera has crashed twice for me in the month I've had the camera.
ME TOO! Problem is reduced if resolution is reduced to 4K. Also Camera FV-5 doesn't crash - problem is app not hardware.

Reduced to 4K? That's the highest resolution.
Original setting was 12 Meg per image, I reduced to 7.7 and for a while that worked better, then that stopped, I set the resolution back to 12 and since then it has been working fine and quick.

It's difficult to tell if that sort of change made a difference or if the problem is just random.
