It seems when I use my normal watchface the black background is black, but as soon as it switches to AOD, the screen is more brighter and the black background is a bit grey... It's very annoying in a dark room. It feels like it uses more power with AOD than with an active watchface, although it's not true, as I left the active one on for about 15 minutes and it used significantly more power. Still finding it a bit strange. Have you noticed the same?
There is no backlight. It's an AMOLED display.

Yeah I get that, still try in a dark room to set up a watchface (e.g. AlphaDark). It is pitch black on normal, but on AOD the background is grey and shines more than the active watchface.

Yep.
Yes I did notice that as well. AOD on my wife's s7 has a completely black background except for the image displayed but our watch seems to dimly light the whole screen, possibly because of its size and/or a way to accommodate the various types of faces with AOD. But i did notice it on both stock and 3rd party faces.

I'm not seeing that on mine, at least with the Alpha Dark 2.0 watch face. The background is just as black as the regular display.

It shouldn't matter, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything. I'm using mine with a Samsung S7 Edge.
I'm surprised there are different firmware versions for watches with identical functionality. I'd think the guts would be the same in the Classic and Bluetooth-only version of the Frontier.
It might be worth a call to Samsung. Even though they're dimly-lit, those pixels are consuming power and your battery life will suffer more than it should.
I decided to just turn AOD off. Seems like my battery life was taking a bigger hit than I expected by leaving it on.
I just tested my Classic, and it is also completely black when AOD is active(completely black room). I tried both a stock watchface, and a 3rd party one.
I think you should call support and see if you can get a new one!

Thats suzks for you dude,,, let us know how it works out.. picture is way too big.
This is actually normal. Using a software such as Screen Filter and looking at a pure grey image will show the screen pattern pretty clearly. Very noticeable at lower brightness, not much of an issue otherwise.

nothing in particular. I first noticed while using Launcher 7, all the red tiles had a lot of striping. I'm talking about pure red #FF0000. The gray noise has always seemed minimal. I only noticed it while using MIUI or Gingerbread. I just hope they don't replace my screen with the S-LCD. the SAMOLED is still much better than the S-LCD

Although I cannot confirm this right away, I highly doubt replacing it for a S-LCD is as easy as plugging it in. Phones have to be cost effective, so the less time spent repairing them, the better. I don't think you'll have anything but a SAMOLED.
Well I just got it back.
And they didn't fix the issue
although they did replace my charge port and volume buttons.
So, not a complete loss

i dont see it on red, in low and high brightness.
I recently received a replacement pixel after breaking my screen through insurance. The replacement was a refurb and I set it up using the device transfer. The only issue I have with the replacement is the "Night Light" is too amber. There is a dramatic difference between Night Light on my old Pixel vs replacement Pixel. From what I can tell, Night Light relies on hardware.
Night Light uses a new hardware composer interface to do color transforms on the display hardware rather than using a GL Shader, which unfortunately means it requires driver support that is not present on Nexus devices.

With an hour or so of searching, I haven't found any other reports of this. Is it possible the replacement is defective? Has anyone else heard of this? Android is up to date.
See attachment for a picture of a side by side comparison between the two. Adaptive brightness is off and brightness level roughly the same for both. Both displays are much more amber than the picture shows, but it does show the difference between the two.

What is wrong? On the right side night mode isn't active. It's set to sunrise but it's not triggered.
It is activated. It's not obvious in the picture because the amber is more subtle on the phone on the right side.
To confirm that the night light on the right looks correct, I have compared with a coworker's Pixel XL.

My phone is doing the same exact thing. They said they're sending me a replacement. This is the third replacement by the way. First was a camera unable to focus, then it was a microphone problem , now it's the screen .. I'm losing trust with this product
A phone replacement resolved this issue for me. Unfortunately it took two more replacements after this to get which had no other issues.

I just received my 4th replacement. This one has an orange screen and not as bright as my other 3 Pixels. I guess I need a 5th replacement. This is really making me really angry.
I had this issue with many replacements. My original was the only one to not have the deep orange look. But I had other issues with that device.
I got tired of sending for replacements so I just said forget it, I won't use night light.
I'm running O DP4 now and there is an intensity slider on the night light options which I've finally settled for. You can make it as intense as you want.
Hi everyone,
I am almost sure it's a hardware issue, but would love to hear your feedback/opinion.
I am using the 20.7.9 build of Xiaomi.eu, but had the issue with earlier builds as well. It's mainly a bright area in the upper third of the screen, but only if the brightness is very low, like at night, and it's particularly worse with dark mode and reading mode enabled. With dark mode is just the brightness issue, but with reading mode enabled as well it's the festival of colours you see in the photo.
Is anyone else experiencing that?
EDIT: Uploaded better screenshot (previous was particularly because of the wallpaper, current one is not)

There's also an interesting post on Reddit crosslinking this one:

A very similar problem seems to also have occurred on the OnePlus 8 Pro and the galaxy S20 Ultra where it was addressed via a software update.
I am currently in contact with the supplier (HKG) and they'd like a video which I will prepare over the weekend.

I have the exact same issue bro in the exact same place. I'm using stock ROM
I don't have the device yet (I'm getting it by tomorrow, yey!) but this also happens to my Black Shark 2 before. I bet this is a software issue, and like what others mentioned, it has something to do with DC dimming and HDR enabled, like what I had in Black Shark 2.
Here's on my k30 pro. I don't mind it tho. Although I hope it gets fixed on a software update.

Black Shark 2 has the option to turn off Display Enhancement feature that relies on third-party DSP (Pixelwork's), which includes DC Dimming and HDR settings. Turning off such feature "fixes" the weird tint on dark grey colors. If only Poco has this option.
By the way, I just got my F2 Pro earlier and I did not encounter such issue in MIUI11. However, after updating to MIUI12, it's very noticeable even in low brightness. I can clearly see the green tint on the grey background of XDA app while typing this. LOL.

Anyone else seeing burn in problems with their GW4C?
I had it for just 1 day and this is the screen burn in I'm getting already.

Working with Samsung to get a replacement (or I'll just return and buy a new one).
My guess is I just got a lemon. The AOD doesn't seem to dimmvery much at all. And it always seems to want to be much brighter than it needs to be (in comparison to all the other smartwatches I've owned)

This is the second report of this. I assume its a firmware bug. The screen should go to greyscale, dim and low refresh frequency. I guess it's not going into these three settings and killing the display. How embarrassing for Samsung!
Just tried both of mine and it is not right. The orange notification dot remains full brightness and saturated. AOD looks wrong to me.
Is the watch lugs being less than 20mm a wider issue? I don't have calipers to measure.
It would suck if I can't use all the bands I have ordered.

It really is a shame what poor quality samsung dares to ship out to customers!
But what makes me even more angry are all the fanboys that defend samsung no matter what and always try to blame users for their hardware and software issues even though it´s clear that it´s just a faulty/unfinished product...
In the other thread there really have been people blaming the user for their burn-in issues for "setting the brightness wrong"... On a finished device there should never be a user setting that could damage a device permanently....

Yeah. I love how these guys are trying to blame us. My watch was set to the default display settings with AOD on. My GW and GW3 had the same settings and never had this problem. This is my 4th smart watch, first being that LG one that came out in like 2016
Samsung just sent me an email saying they are shipping my device back unrepaired. I'm trying to find out what the hell is going on.
EDIT: Samsung sent that email automated because they determined to just send me a brand new replacement.
I have a status update. Samsung will not replace the watch, they are only offering me a refund. I'm livid at this.

Ummm, so you take the refund and buy a new watch. What's the difference?
My watchface of my gw4 classic literally burn in in 5 hours with AOD and automatic brightness. I also got called from 1000000
But I contacted Samsung and they told that I can send the watch back and receive a brand new one
Hello, sorry for my poor english.
I have watch 4 classic 46mm and i notised when im at dark place i set it to the lowest brightness there are some spots.
They change based on the watch face(like they where the brightest places of the face)
I took my friend watch (galaxy watch 4 classic 42mm) i didnt see the same spots but the sizes aren't the same so...
Can someone please confirm if there is a problem with my watch or its mormal?
I'v added some photos.
I can only see them when im at the brighness settings or at the upper menu.
Thank you.

I get watch 4 classic 46 mm as a gift yesterday and oh boy yes classic edition has some huge screen blur issues it look just as in your photo and just like that girl who has two of them i think they have some software issues it's so ugly my 44m standard looks smooth without those black spots in any of the screen brightness settings.
Did you maybe replace it or are you just living with it?

No,samaung offerd to replace the screen and i didn't want that so i returned it to the store and replaced it with classic 46 mm lte(only 46 mm black they had) ,here a photo side by side with the same face and settings.
Old one at the left and the new at the right.
There is a problem with some screens, something with the back light.
I checkd at 4 stores,5 watches total and both classic and the normal version and only 2 had this defective screen.
I do not have this issue on my Galaxy Watch4 Classic. If I go into brightness as you did, the higher I go, I get the backlight showing as a spot simular to yours, but all the way down, mine is totally black.
