Hi all.
I bought a refurbed Tab 7.0 Plus off of eBay, and when I plug it into Kies I get a blank firmware version field.
This means I can't update to a new firmware version via Kies; I am wondering if flashing the device to the EU version of the firmware will help (it currently has the US firmware, and keeps offering US services and downloads whilst locking me out of the UK equivalents, which is super annoying!).
Current firmware is as follows:
> Kernel Ver. - 2.6.36-P6210UEKJC-CL567728
> Build No. - HTJ85B.UEKJC P6210UEKJC
I am planning to use Odin to flash P6210XXKL2_16G (a Euro ROM) onto the device (which I located on both this forum and Samsdroid).
My question is: will flashing this version onto the tab be safe (I know there is always a chance of bricking but I *should* be okay here, right)? And will changing the ROM fix the Kies issue?
If KIES is showing blank firmware field it is a sign it was flashed wrongly before. as long as you do a clean flash with the official version KIES sometimes will see it as an official device.
Sorry edit. Just seen the refurbed bit.. Kies doesnt support refurbished items

Gah, sucks that Kies doesn't support refurbished items. Wish the merchant had warned me before I payed!!
In that case I may simply try flashing with a clean ROM (as the build on the tab doesn't seem to tie up with other official releases) and see if that helps solve the issue. Is the firmware I've downloaded the correct (official) firmware?
Edit: I've chickened out and have contacted the merchant for a refund. It wasn't so bad when I flashed my Moto Flipout, as that was only £50 at stake vs £250, plus when I unziped the new firmware zip file, there were 3 different .tar files to choose from. I didn't want to risk it. Hopefully I am still covered under distance selling regs and also the fact the refurb is unsupported by Kies and is locked to US (neither of which are mentioned in the description) will work in my favour. Will go and invest in an English tab instead methinks!!! xD

Smart move. If the seller never mentioned those things he has miss sold it. The galaxy tab is a nice device. But with refurbed items Samsung will not give warranty (past experience). For an expensive device you want all the support you can get; warranty, updates etc.

Yep, got in touch with the seller last night and he has agreed to a refund, so I'm not complaining. It's such a shame, as £200 was a great price for that Tab. Well, I guess you get what you pay for, eh?
Seems I'm going to have to pay around £320+ for a new 7.0 Plus, although for about £20 or so more I might as well invest in the 7.7...

Well if a price seems to good to be true, then there is something wrong.
I personally prefer the 7.7; more feel of a tab. 7.0 is small imo for a tab; may aswell go for an oversized phone like the note if looking a 7.0 tab..

This was the seller I purchased my tab from: http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/hugosaleshop/
The merchant was very good with handling my request. I'm now on the hunt for a 7.7.
Why is there no Silver/Blue aluminium builds on the internet?
I can only seem to find the ceramic black MAO one. I dont want to get that version as i have seen various chipping issues surfacing on the internet.
Also does HTC replace the phone if it does chip? and is this with the standard warranty statement included or do i need the actual receipt ?
Edit: Im in the UK if that helps
read through the thread on 'micro oxidation' when it comes to chipping. Long story short, HTC admits this is a cosmetic problem and will not officially replace the phone under warranty, at least not anymore.
So my suggestion is if you want to risk it, buy it from a respectable retailer (ie: myphone, amazon, expansys etc) that have a specific policy when it comes to returns that if in 30 days you get a defect, you can return it.
i returned 3 phones and got refunded in the end from amazon(brilliant service) but i wont be buying htc anymore.

Any of the U.S. T-mobile models will be Blue/Silver. People are listing them as "Black", but there are no Black U.S. One S's yet.

amazon has it for 480GBP sim free.
search for htc one s grey
interestingly enough the black now costs 370!!! instead of 415 that it was initially
I think HTC doenst have a exact colorname for the Grey/Blue one. In germany the shops call it metallic gray/grey. Price about 444€.

So why are there no 'gradient metal' versions on ebay ? I can only find out of uk sales for that version
i wouldnt buy a phone off ebay. no guarentees. Besides it may be that everyone is after a grey one since the black one is crap

They are available from the carriers.
I wanted to buy a carrier-free one and couldn't find one (although this was in the first week of release) hence purchasing from 3UK - I'm surprised they are still not available.
Handtec site says due in soon and taking preorders; exspansys the same. I'm guessing all the independant retailers decided the black would be more popular and are now left holding lots of black stock whilst the carriers went for both.
I have to say the 3UK bloatware isn't as bad as I expected and I'm glad I bought the phone despite really wanting it "vanilla"; there is no external branding. If you really do want the grey version then I'd suggest it's worth considering buying from the high street.
us customs
does any one have any idea for if ordering the phone from the UK(clove) to the US will charge me to pay duties(customes fee) when the device get to the US?
or does it get straight to the address?
Thanks

Hi all,
I am looking to find out what the difference is between the EU and UK version of the note, with there being no stock of the grey note in the UK what effect would buying the EU version off Expansys. Are the difference noticeable, and is it likely that apps that are meant for the UK will not work? BBC I player, sky go(if its ever released) etc.
I have read that you can change the CSC to make it think it is a UK version, how easy is this to do nd does it void the warrenty having to flash a new rom onto it to change the CSC?
I have been putting off buying g the note to try get the grey one but starting to worry if its not released soon something new will be released and I'll just want to wait to get that so I'm now considering getting the white one. Not that I need to hear the pros and cons f white over grey, I've read the other posts
So buy EU version, by white UK version or continue waiting?
Thanks,
Steven

Can't help with changing it but I got fed up and bought the white, glad I did as it's my first tablet and cleaning the screen has become a OCD experiencet for me! Thankfully finger marks don't show up as easily on the white bezel. A nice cheap case but great quality (Poetic from Amazon £7.95) has made it a real joy to use.
If it helps, although I have a UK Note 10.1, earlier thus year I bought the EU note 5.3 from expansys. There is no difference in functionality of the device in the UK. Able to access all apps as usual from the market. With regard to updates, you get them when they are being rolled out in the country of the device's origin...that is unless you change the csc. On device set up, you may find initially that setup instructions are in the language of the device's country of origin. When phone is setup though, language automatically changes to English. I would expect no difference with an EU Note 10.1.

Hello all, I hope this is the right place for me to ask this question.
So I am looking for a Z3 from Ebay and I notice that most of the sellers are from China or Hongkong. The ones in the US are mostly Chinese as well. They sell either New or New other phones. Some, for example, this guy, states that the phone is brand new in box, but then have latest OS version updated. Sounds a little bit suspicios, I thought the phone was shipped with Android 4, how can they update OS version without open the box?
Anyway, I'm just afraid that I might get a fake one. Anyone here has experience with those Z3 on Ebay? Should I buy? Can you give me some advice? Thanks
I bought a Z3 on eBay basically brand new only taken out of the box to look at and it was updated nothing to be suspicious about hope this helps,I'm in the uk btw

It seems that you can preorder all models (but only in black) on geekbuying here, but it's showing a rather long wait time of 32 days (42 days for 256GB model). Can anyone with experience on preordering through geekbuying comment on the accuracy of these wait times? Many thanks in advance.
I got my le max 2 off geekbuying a couple of years ago it took ages to arrive so much so it was obsolete when it arrived?, but it's what I'm using still,

This offer looks suspicious. In my opinion they don't even know what they're selling because CEO at Mix 2s launch said that the white color variant will be available only for the 8/256 GB model.
Don't forget chinadroid.fr for french buyers
Global release
I'm kinda new to Xiaomi phones. This preorders now are for the Chinese version of the mi mix 2S, right? I wonder when the global version will be released. Is it safe for me to buy this version and upgrade it to the global when released?
There won't be something like a global version. The device has all LTE bands (at least in the 256gb version) and you have to flash the global eom by yourself. But don't panic it's quite easy .

Of course there will be global version. Global version will have global ROM installed. Just like with the Mi MIX 2.
Please refrain from giving such missleading answers...

If you buy chinese version you will get a device with Chinese ROM and no google apps installed. It will be in English, tho, and you still can install google apps apk (there are guides on XDA or just Google for it) and then use your phone normally, just with some bloatware that comes with Chinese ROM.
Once there is a global version of the ROM available, you can flash it (there are guides on how to do it as well) - that's a bit risky, may require a couple tries with hard resets. So if you don't feel comfortable doing it, I'd recommend you wait for the global version of the phone, which should be available by the end of the month.

I've bought the 2s pre-sale with expected shipping 5th of April via MI Global Store on AliExpress.
They communicate very well asking if I could live with a Chinese version and install the global rom expected within a month.
I live in Europe and have got several phones from there without problems and no tax hence they send via the UK.

Which variant did you buy? Also, could you update if your device actually ships this week? I'm trying to decide where to buy the phone from too
Sure. I actually chose the 8/256 variant because of reading that the global LTE bands only was found on the top model. In white by the way, I very briefly owned a MI Mix 2 in black, that lived in the supplied case, because of the fingerprints being oh so easy to see. I hope the white color will mitigate that. I find it very sad to keep such a beautifully built device in a cover/case.
Choosing the top model was because of the fact that prior models before Mix 2 didn't support B7 and B20, which is important to me here in Denmark.
Then I read up on it and found that the two bands mentioned is supported by every model, so I canceled and chose the 6/64 variant which is totally sufficient for my usage.

Looks like one is for shipping to EU, and another one - for shipping to Ukraine? Not sure why so huge price difference... probably due to additional customs cost when shipping to Ukraine.

update: the price dropped from 777$ to 660$ , but still a bit expensive for the 64GB version imho
@abdurrehman09 : well, "about $650" for the 256GB variant is a bit unrealistic, don't you think?
