[Q] No Firmware in Kies? Flashing Euro ROM? - Samsung Galaxy Tab Plus

Hi all.
I bought a refurbed Tab 7.0 Plus off of eBay, and when I plug it into Kies I get a blank firmware version field.
This means I can't update to a new firmware version via Kies; I am wondering if flashing the device to the EU version of the firmware will help (it currently has the US firmware, and keeps offering US services and downloads whilst locking me out of the UK equivalents, which is super annoying!).
Current firmware is as follows:
> Kernel Ver. - 2.6.36-P6210UEKJC-CL567728
> Build No. - HTJ85B.UEKJC P6210UEKJC
I am planning to use Odin to flash P6210XXKL2_16G (a Euro ROM) onto the device (which I located on both this forum and Samsdroid).
My question is: will flashing this version onto the tab be safe (I know there is always a chance of bricking but I *should* be okay here, right)? And will changing the ROM fix the Kies issue?

If KIES is showing blank firmware field it is a sign it was flashed wrongly before. as long as you do a clean flash with the official version KIES sometimes will see it as an official device.
Sorry edit. Just seen the refurbed bit.. Kies doesnt support refurbished items

Gah, sucks that Kies doesn't support refurbished items. Wish the merchant had warned me before I payed!!
In that case I may simply try flashing with a clean ROM (as the build on the tab doesn't seem to tie up with other official releases) and see if that helps solve the issue. Is the firmware I've downloaded the correct (official) firmware?
Edit: I've chickened out and have contacted the merchant for a refund. It wasn't so bad when I flashed my Moto Flipout, as that was only £50 at stake vs £250, plus when I unziped the new firmware zip file, there were 3 different .tar files to choose from. I didn't want to risk it. Hopefully I am still covered under distance selling regs and also the fact the refurb is unsupported by Kies and is locked to US (neither of which are mentioned in the description) will work in my favour. Will go and invest in an English tab instead methinks!!! xD

Smart move. If the seller never mentioned those things he has miss sold it. The galaxy tab is a nice device. But with refurbed items Samsung will not give warranty (past experience). For an expensive device you want all the support you can get; warranty, updates etc.

Yep, got in touch with the seller last night and he has agreed to a refund, so I'm not complaining. It's such a shame, as £200 was a great price for that Tab. Well, I guess you get what you pay for, eh?
Seems I'm going to have to pay around £320+ for a new 7.0 Plus, although for about £20 or so more I might as well invest in the 7.7...

Well if a price seems to good to be true, then there is something wrong.
I personally prefer the 7.7; more feel of a tab. 7.0 is small imo for a tab; may aswell go for an oversized phone like the note if looking a 7.0 tab..

Getting ready to ebay my Infuse to pay for my new phone...any thoughts if I should offer it up for sale as Unlocked Froyo or OEM Gingerbread (2.3.6)?
From the feeling I get on this forum mine is prob one of the few that runs very well on the new OEM Gingerbread release...no issues. BUT, for more ebay $$$$ I'd be willing to Unlock it (i guess either original Froyo or even the latest GB Leak.)

Unlocked GB would be best, no question.
Like Hey, I have an unlocked Infuse that's been updated to the latest official AT&T Gingerbread software.
You can try using this link to unlock it for free: Unlock Code Found Infuse 4G **Root Required**
It worked great for me.
OEM GB
For most of the consumers probably they would not like pre-rooted.
Think of this, if they like rooting, they like and they could flash the rom they want. They might have their different preference. If it's not someone that feel comfortable with rooting, they would prefer
The other day i saw an infuse that sold higher than others that had Miui running on it. He had a video link on it showing how the interface is. He put in his description "iphone like" and "best of both worlds." I think that got him more money because he was able to cater to a larger crowd who loves apple but wants to try android.
Give that a shot and let us know.

My humble two cents says unrooted official gb release. I say this because the buyer starts with a known quantity, the unrooted phone. They are more likely to buy with confidence if they believe the device is pristine and not running some haxored software.
I would also offer to root the device for an additional small fee should the purchaser wish.
Again, just my humble two cents, the call is ultimately yours.

Finally for sale for a sensible price in UK

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 plus. Wifi only version. EU sourced. Decent price though. Expansys in the UK have them for £194.99 .
Checking out this forum because I spotted that and just ordered one. I know it's on the list of devices to get ICS, but I've already read enough of this forum not to ask when. :/
Samsung definitely have form when it comes to not delivering firmware. I just assume whichever Samsung device I buy will not receive any updates. I was burnt by the i8910HD, which really needed updates but never got them. I also have a original (XEU) Tab stuck on Froyo. However in this case, Froyo is fine IMO.

Tf700 from best buy (Tennessee)

Hi there,
I live in Holland and put up an ad on a website saying I was looking for the tf700, I did get a reply but the tf700 was purchased in America.
My question is would the specs be the same as the ones in Europe?
Also do I have to pay attention to anything in particular here? (would i be able to just get a Europian style charging cable?)
I'm not fond of buying products outside Europe but this seems like a good deal.
Thanks in advance
www.Conrad.de has it in stock. And Conrad HQ is located in Oldenzaal, Nederland. (Used to have a shop in Boekelo, 98% of my hardware in my house comes from that shop.. God I miss it..)
Conrad.nl has it without dock
www.PCking.de still has the TF700T and KL in stock.
www.alternate.de still has it in stock.
Amazon.de has several listed, new and used.
Germany still sells it, it's just the Dutch shops that, as usual, agreed they would rather sell other devices. Earns them more in terms out hardware becoming outdated. Personally, i'd go for Conrad.
So there's a European option. This also spares you several custom fees (It actually isn't even legal to export electronic devices from the US, so there's a 50/50 chance it won't even get through customs.) which can be up to several hundred euros.
To the matter at hand, though, the hardware is the same, but the software has differences. Not only will you have a US version of the firmware, you will also have several WiFi channels locked from use (fixable by unlocking, by the way) that are common here in the Netherlands.
Oops, guess I forgot some details. I want to get the infinity on second hand cause it will be cheaper, I was offered an infinity from a guy in Holland but it was originally purchased in america.
I did look into getting it fresh out the store, I looked for ages but couldn't find a shop that had it. When I did find it it turned out to be rly expensive.
Thanks anyway for your reply, you said the software would be slightly different, but that's something I can take care of right?
Perhaps loading a European firmware from Asus on it?

If you unlock the bootloader and root it, then yes, you can load any rom. Locked, you're stuck with the SKU it came with. Meaning: if the original sku is US you cannot flash the WW Asus firmware.
The only one way to unlock is using the Asus unlock tool. It works most of the time, but not always.
There have been quite a few cases where people bricked their devices, send it in to Asus, they exchanged the motherboard and people were unable to unlock it again because after the motherboard exchange the device ID and serial #s don't match the database on Asus servers anymore.
Then you're stuck on the rom it came with. You can still root, but no more custom roms.

[Q] Brand new note 2012 or refurbished 2014?

Hi,
So after a really long search through every single tablet on the world its only this last choice left to make.
Brand new sealed box Galaxy Note 2012 version (16GB)
vs
refurbished Galaxy Note 2014 (16GB) + extra 50$ more expensive (400 instead of 350).
I'm not willing the pay for the full price of the 2014, the question is, is it worth to get the newer but in refurbished condition?
The only big differences I see between those two are the better screen and the new software.. everything else looks pretty the same..
What do you say?
I'd like to hear your opinion as an owner please,
Thanks,
Jordan.
As an owner of the 2012 version, I am waiting for a good deal to sell mine now so that I can get the 2014. Samsung has a bad rap when it comes to updating their pricier android devices, and upgrading hardware in order to secure the validity of the device is one of the only options left for the 2012.
I'm not counting on them releasing the rumored 4.4,2 update for the n80xx line at all.
Sent from my GT-N8013 using Tapatalk
If I were you, I'll never touch refurbished stuffs.
But still the choice is yours.
May be 1 other alternatives is just wait until the 2014 edition price drops
I don't have an answer for you but i can tell you I wouldn't get too hung up on which version of android it has. I am constantly updating my phone with newest ROMs and in my experience the difference between jellybean and kit kat or even ICS aren't very noticeable. I just bought a new 2012 version and so far it seems fine to me. I didn't even look at the new one though because i want going to spend over 350.
FYI, in case you didn't discover this, amazon has white ones for 350 and Best buy has gray ones for 350. Not sure if BB has free shipping though.
Thank you all for replying,
That was kinda what I was thinking,
Another question,
Are the ROMs available, still active? do they still updating their self? like atleast once a month?
I'm not an addicted user who changes ROM every week, but I know that atleast for the beggining I would wanna have the option to play with it alil,
Whats the latest official ROM samsung has provided to the device and whats the latest there is out there on the ROM list (ones with touchwiz)?
Thanks again.
There isn't a huge community of users for either tablet as its rather expensive. But even the 2012 edition is one of the most powerful tablets on the market today.
Samsung doesn't do the best at releasing updates but they have promised we will see 4.4.2 on the 2012 edition this year. Tho to be fair the amount of difference I expect it to make is near zero. The only functionality the tablet is missing is wireless display options. The only thing I wish I could change is running touch wiz.
Biggest reason I can see to go with the 2014 is the regular charger. The 2012 has a proprietary connection that isn't easy to find replacements for.

So........ what did you decide?
I have both versions and can honestly say that apart from my 2014 having the air command feature there is no real benefits from it. There are not many customs roms out for either of them and what there is don't offer anything better than stock imo.

Samsung Galaxy 2012 (GT-N8000) no doubt!
When you wanna get best tablet by my opinion buy this on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Galax...UTF8&qid=1397148945&sr=8-5&keywords=note+10.1 or whenever you want. When do you don't need calling functions get 2012 GT-N8013 it's cheaper version of Samsung Galaxy GT-N8000. Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 is still too expensive. And 2012 have better support, upcoming KitKat 4.4.2 and a lot of custom roms!
But it's only my opinion... Everything is on you! :highfive:
I picked up this one a few days ago, and so far its been great, no issues. To me it was a pretty good deal.

AT&T Tab 4 8.0 Owners

Figured I'd stay a thread for those of us who have an AT&T Tab 4 SM-T337A variant. Anyone weeks have one? What are your thoughts? I'll probably post some in the coming days as I use it more.
I have the T-Mobile version, but it's pretty much the same. I am moving from an AT&T tab 3 7.0 and so far I am not sure if I'm impressed yet. One thing I have noticed is that there is not an ambient light sensor on this model. It's a small quirk, but something I feel should have been added. Overall build quality is ok, and it seems responsive to me, but I think once my case shows up I will be more inclined to use it as I normally do without worrying so much about scuffing it up.

The lack of an ambient light sensor was a real head scratcher for me too, especially because the Galaxy Tab 3 had one. I also noticed that they downgraded the camera. The Tab 3 8.0 had a 5 megapixel autofocus camera while the Tab 4 8.0 has a 3 megapixel fixed focus camera. Further, they seem to have gotten rid of the stereo speakers in favor of one mono speaker on the back. I don't get these decisions at all. I realize that the Tab 4's biggest upgrade over the Tab 3 is the processor, but did adding a quad core processor really make it so they had to skimp on the light sensor, speakers, and camera? If they needed to take something away, I'd have preferred they get rid of the IR blaster or vibrator, personally.
Sent from my Galaxy S5 using Tapatalk
Actually, I didn't have the vibrate function on the tab 3 and was didsappointed. I was happy to have one on the 4, but I have no idea why I would need it now. I would have rather seen that left out too. I'm really hoping to a root exploit soon so I can tinker with this one at least. I didn't really pay attention to the camera because I really don't use it. I really only use my tab for streaming music and poking around on the interwebs.
Sent from my SM-T337T using Tapatalk
Essentially, what Samsung said to us is "Here is the Galaxy Tab 4 8.0. It's $30 cheaper than last year's model, with a better processor and a vibrator, but we downgraded the speakers and camera and got rid of auto brightness."
This sounds absurd when you put it that way. I would have preferred "Here's the Galaxy Tab 4 8.0. It's $30 cheaper than last year's model, with a better processor, but we had to get rid of the IR blaster and continue to leave out a vibrator." To me, that sounds much more reasonable.

From what I read, the Tab line has been downgraded to make room for the pro series which had all the bells and whistles. I just picked my 8" model up yesterday. So far it does what I want just a bit laggy at times, hopefully something a recovery and kernel could fix.

LTE Tab 4 models have Kids Mode removed
I spoke to Samsung Telecommunications US headquarters this week out of frustration of not having the Kids Mode App on our two new AT&T LTE Samsung Tab 4 devices and have confirmed that all LTE models have had the Kids Mode feature removed from their devices. And, the most frustrating thing is actually on Samsung's own website for the individual, specific LTE models which lists the Kids Mode feature as a key selling point. And yes, the first thing people say is: "Have you checked for the latest updates (Android & Samsung.) And, the answer is yes. I have confirmed this removal with Samsung and notified them that this is indeed a huge problem. Maybe not so much for me or for you who may thrive off all things tech, but for the grandparent or parent buying this for their child with the sole purpose of using this key selling feature to help protect their child. Their frustration and discomfort in trying to use what they've been sold and not being able to will only push them away from Samsung or other Android devices. It is a disservice to both the Samsung and Android names as well as to the customer. And it makes us maybe reflect on what we can learn from apple (which pains me to say): when they advertise a feature, it does work on their devices especially on the new ones and even more so on a product listed to have the feature. It's both disappointing and embarrassing to see as both a Samsung and Android supporter.
And one more thing that pains me as an AT&T employee, which I am but not in mobility, that must be said!.. Samsung and AT&T have thought of our kids protection and replaced the Kids Mode with another app. FAMIGO!.. which is a PAID subscription of $4.99 a month to protect your Child!! THINKING of this even more gets me so infuriated!! What an absolute disservice and embarrassment!!
Can anyone get the Kids Mode AK ported from the WiFi version so we can use it on this device?

I am testing FlashFire now for compatibility, so far so good it has no problems updating SuperSU thru flashing a zip file action. unfortunately there is no OEM firmware other than the original NF4 firmware, I will be looking into a build from the NK2 system dump however, system dumps are notoriously buggy.
Please don't ask for ETA's don't PM me with questions, give me a couple weeks to iron out any inconsistencies and we will se what happens.

It's nice to find a thread for AT&T Tab 4 8.0 owners. Are all of you on AT&T? I got mine unlocked, and I'm planning to use mine with TMO. It already works for their paid plans, but it can't sign up for their 200mb free plan (apparently because this tablet is not in their eligible database). I'm toying with the idea of flashing a TMO ROM to see if that'll work, but I'm guessing it won't.

I'm toying with the idea of flashing a TMO ROM to see if that'll work, but I'm guessing it won't.

Out of curiosity without safestrap for this device, how do you plan on flashing another ROM to this phone since the bootloader is locked and visa vi no custom recovery?
Voice call
Has anyone figured out how to enable voice calls on the SM-T337A? I've rooted with Towelroot and tried to update the modem.bin file with the one for SM-T337T. No luck. Advance thanks.
