Hi,
So after a really long search through every single tablet on the world its only this last choice left to make.
Brand new sealed box Galaxy Note 2012 version (16GB)
vs
refurbished Galaxy Note 2014 (16GB) + extra 50$ more expensive (400 instead of 350).
I'm not willing the pay for the full price of the 2014, the question is, is it worth to get the newer but in refurbished condition?
The only big differences I see between those two are the better screen and the new software.. everything else looks pretty the same..
What do you say?
I'd like to hear your opinion as an owner please,
Thanks,
Jordan.
As an owner of the 2012 version, I am waiting for a good deal to sell mine now so that I can get the 2014. Samsung has a bad rap when it comes to updating their pricier android devices, and upgrading hardware in order to secure the validity of the device is one of the only options left for the 2012.
I'm not counting on them releasing the rumored 4.4,2 update for the n80xx line at all.

If I were you, I'll never touch refurbished stuffs.
But still the choice is yours.
May be 1 other alternatives is just wait until the 2014 edition price drops
I don't have an answer for you but i can tell you I wouldn't get too hung up on which version of android it has. I am constantly updating my phone with newest ROMs and in my experience the difference between jellybean and kit kat or even ICS aren't very noticeable. I just bought a new 2012 version and so far it seems fine to me. I didn't even look at the new one though because i want going to spend over 350.
FYI, in case you didn't discover this, amazon has white ones for 350 and Best buy has gray ones for 350. Not sure if BB has free shipping though.
Thank you all for replying,
That was kinda what I was thinking,
Another question,
Are the ROMs available, still active? do they still updating their self? like atleast once a month?
I'm not an addicted user who changes ROM every week, but I know that atleast for the beggining I would wanna have the option to play with it alil,
Whats the latest official ROM samsung has provided to the device and whats the latest there is out there on the ROM list (ones with touchwiz)?
Thanks again.
There isn't a huge community of users for either tablet as its rather expensive. But even the 2012 edition is one of the most powerful tablets on the market today.
Samsung doesn't do the best at releasing updates but they have promised we will see 4.4.2 on the 2012 edition this year. Tho to be fair the amount of difference I expect it to make is near zero. The only functionality the tablet is missing is wireless display options. The only thing I wish I could change is running touch wiz.
Biggest reason I can see to go with the 2014 is the regular charger. The 2012 has a proprietary connection that isn't easy to find replacements for.

So........ what did you decide?
I have both versions and can honestly say that apart from my 2014 having the air command feature there is no real benefits from it. There are not many customs roms out for either of them and what there is don't offer anything better than stock imo.

Refurbished = Someone did not like it and took it back, or worse they took back caused it had a problem and the repair people turned it on and it booted, ha it works, resell it.

I bought a 2012 refurb a year ago
.......no problems
$300 for a 2012 is high in today's market.
You can find new 2012 on-line for less than that.

Samsung Galaxy 2012 (GT-N8000) no doubt!
When you wanna get best tablet by my opinion buy this on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Galax...UTF8&qid=1397148945&sr=8-5&keywords=note+10.1 or whenever you want. When do you don't need calling functions get 2012 GT-N8013 it's cheaper version of Samsung Galaxy GT-N8000. Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 is still too expensive. And 2012 have better support, upcoming KitKat 4.4.2 and a lot of custom roms!
But it's only my opinion... Everything is on you! :highfive:
I picked up this one a few days ago, and so far its been great, no issues. To me it was a pretty good deal.

Don't get a nexus S, its a hardly upgraded vibrant that was a complete waste of money on release. I bought a used one for 180 and gave it to my 5 year old sister it was such a letdown.
If you really must have a developer phone when wait for the Galaxy Nexus. Otherwise, I recommend any of the Samsung branded phones. I love my Galaxy Captivate, my wife uses the new Galaxy Infuse and the Galaxy S II looks bad-ass IMO.

I don't completely disagree, although the Vibrant was priced similarly just anywhere I looked (at least in my part of Canada back when I bought mine).
Sometimes wish I got the Vibrant for the Gorilla glass, but I'm definitely loving the dev community the Nexus S has. That's what is really making me feel like I made a good decision.

Enough in my honest opinion, seeing how some lesser phones still get development for a few months after becoming "obsolete" in the sense of their technology getting slightly outdated.
Nevertheless, I think all Nexus models will get decent development, judging from the Nexus One and S.
It's a game nobody will win, technology is forever going further and the moment you buy something, there's something new right around the corner or already available on the market. You can always decide to play the waiting game if you're not in need for a change right now, just don't get stuck waiting forever...

A damn lot! Look at the Nexus One! If I'm not mistaken, Dr Kmobs from cyanogenmod is still using and developing for his. The nexus One was either the first or second device to get an ICS SDK port. Not everyone can afford the latest and greatest, any dev phone will get a fair amount of custom ROM love. If you can get a good deal on a nexus S, and you think its what you want, go for it. You aren't gonna be left behind any time soon. That said, if you want the very latest and greatest, get a galaxy nexus, its a huge upgrade.

Nothing like a huge cover to keep it from getting scratched!
Can't wait for the day our phones are near indestructible bricks lasting forever on a charge. It's sad to have such sexy technology getting covered with covers, enhanced with bulky batteries and needing to be constantly plugged in.
Likely the only reasons I miss the days I was using dumbphones, they were indestructible or of no real value, they would last a week on a charge and definitely did not cost as much.
I'l have to buy an unlocked phone(NEW)

my suggestion, watch Craigslist. My gs2 cost me 280 dollars like new.
I think xperia neo is also a good option.
I am getting it for the same price($359)
But I want to get the ICS update as fast as possible...
And acc. to you guyz wen will we get some used GALAXY NEXUS (NEXUS PRIME)
on ebay.com
I will strongly recommend you Samsung Galaxy S2 if your budget provides. Other than that, Nexus S is actually a pretty good phone (very good for this price). The next Google phone series is Galaxy Nexus which will be priced around 35k (INR). That may overkill your budget.
Better stick with Nexus S. It will also get the ICS update very soon, at least earlier than other non-stock android phones (Galaxy S2).
As for Xperia Neo V, it is a great phone too, if you can get it around for 15k (@ adexmart). You may want to try both of these phones at a retail store. Thumbs up to whichever suits you better.
To be honest, you may want to ask for such queries @ thinkdigit. They're aware of the Indian smartphone market better.
I love my NS. The development community is very active, and it'll get even more so when ICS is pushed to the NS!
Plus, with Voodoo and a very stable CyanogenMod build, it blows the doors off my old Vibrant. The stock-black with no carrier branding looks very sexy, too.

Hey guys,
Is there any reason I should hold out on buying this phone? I can get it from amazonwireless for 150$ and no tax.
Is there any other awesome android phones coming out on verizon this year? Or do you think the price will drop drastically soon (maybe to 99$?)

There might be some new phones, they just announced the Droid Razr HD and Droid Razr Maxx HD, they might be getting a nexus device but who knows. I doubt the price will drop until maybe next January. I say go for it. Its an awesome phone.
I see no need to hold out. Only thing coming to think about imo is the Razr HD/Maxx HD, but to me neither one is better than the S3

I noticed the new droids... my sister has a Droid 3. It sucks though, cause she's stuck on gingerbread and it's not a popular phone for customization. From what i read (And experienced), motorola is horrible for tweaking, while samsung is the best with htc in 2nd.
Since this phone has an unlocked bootloader now, and also has GSM radio, that's a big plus for me.
I just don't want this phone to fall another 50$ right after i buy it, especially with iphone 5s coming out soon competing with it.
Do you guys know if there's an even cheaper way to get it other than 150$?

@fr8cture return and buy it again! get your $50 back!
@rpn its probably not going to sink any further than $150 with a new contract for a while. The only reasons I can think of holding back is to wait for the 64GB model (which may or may not be sold by verizon)
Whatever you do, make sure you refuse to give up an unlimited data plan if you currently have one! Make sure the salesman knows its a deal breaker (even if its really not)

I paid $515 on eBay, so I say you both got good deals lol....that said, I haven't thought twice about paying that price, and doesn't bother me people get it much cheaper on upgrade prices
Is this for the 16 or 32 gig model?
The new Motorola droids are identical to the s3 spec wise. In my opinion Motorola typically has better reception than I have had with the s3. But if you like to mod, there will definitely be a better following with the s3, and aftermarket accessories will be more widely available. The other upside to moto is the amazing battery life of the maxx.

Yep I'd be surprised if it came out before October 2013. The reason this was out so soon in my opinion is because the amount of carriers that got it. Everyone threw money as Samsung, so instead of only a few getting it like the GS2, pretty much everyone did this time around.
Also if you want a phone with customization do not buy a Motorola. They already confirmed that developer editions of these phones will be coming out for $500+ . Coming from a X2, no one could unlock that thing.
I think you can wait for a period of time.

SG3 is now $139 on Amazon wireless. I just got one.
What is there to even consider, this is totally a no-brainer... DO IT man!
S3 specs are lightyears away from any phones i foresee coming out in the next 3-4 months.
This is going to be THE phone until its replacement comes out. I would be amazed if we don't see a nexus by the end of the year, but if you are Verizon don't even bother looking at it. And I personally don't think it is worth waiting. The S3 has gotten awesome support and is such an awesome piece of hardware that you won't regret owning it!

Walmart is sold out in both colors of the refurb units.
The release coming up in Sept is for the note 3 phone or are they releasing a new note 10.1 tablet also?
I really like my Note 10.1 and they would have to come out with something mind blowing for me to upgrade when a new note 10.1 comes out.

Yea i saw the walmart deal on gizmodo earlier. Best buy has it for $330 refurb. Mine consider that option as well seems to be a great tablet. Thanks for your response!
I bought mine refurbished on Woot.com for $299 and honestly it's just as good as brand new... I have been scared of refurbs before but now I think it's one of the best ways to go. even bought my wife a refurbished note 8.0 on ebay for $289 and hers is just like a brand new unit as well, plus depending on where you get it, most refurbs have a 90 day warranty (but if it turns out to be like my purchases, you won't need it)

The only reason I'm here is because of the $249 walmart refurb deal 2 days ago. That being said it depends on where you get the refurb from. Walmart has a very good return policy and I can take it back to any physical store without restocking fees. And there were over 500 online reviews with the majority indicating that the tablet came in brand new like condition minus the original box. That was enough for me to pull the trigger.
if it's not too late i would wait unless you want a cheap tablet to hold you over, samsung are supposedly going to announce a 1080p note series 12" tablet soon so look out for it, i'm interested myself but i am still happy with the note 10.1 though.

I have a question for those of you purchasing Walmart refurbs: what build number shipped on your device? My daughter and a friend's daughter both purchased Walmart refurbs and arrived with UEUCMA3 and would not update through the system. It just says the latest updates have been installed- which is obviously not true. I updated my daughter's (via ODIN), but I am curious about the experience of others.

The best way to get the update when auto update does not work is With your computer using samsung Kies software. But ODIN Flash is fine too..
Just letting you know there is another option..
I to agree with some of the comments above. I do not think i will upgrade to the next gen note 10 tablet.my note 10.1 runs perfect and does all i want. Also its likely to be 500.00 to 600.00 . That is a alot of money. I hope my note 10.1 will be viable for another year or so.. I also would NOT WANT A tablet bigger then 10. inches . 10 inches to me is a Monster .. Giggles.
Anyway Buy buy buy...... its half price and refurbs are useally returns or non sold new devices reboxed to sell with less warranty to clear out stock..
@erica_renee, I did try kies before ODIN, same result.

Yes, I picked mine up from Walmart and am very happy with it. Brand new looking, only difference is the refurb packaging.
It handles everything I throw at it and don't think I will need anything new anytime this year at least.
I paid 279 which was an excellent deal in itself. 249 is insane. You could probably resell if on ebay for a profit which may be why they are now sold out.
Buy one of you get the chance!
ps . I even got the drop and spill insurance since it was so inexpensive.
I bought a refurbished one from Walmart. I went with them over Best Buy because Walmart offered a two year warranty for like $40.

I would say yes to the OP question.
I myself was going to purchase a second Note 10.1 and when I went to get one of the $259 refurbs at Walmart they were sold out, I lost out on a great deal.
I see the reburb units have hit Ebay now and the cheapest I see is $299, still a good deal, the seller sold over 380 white units and 130 gray and the white is about sold out.
.
Walmart should still have more. I got mine plus two years of warranty for $299 and some cents. I was actually considering getting the TF300 don't know why I chose the Note, but it was a sound investment.

This. The fear of refurbs is a weird failure the QA folks missed. $299 and a 2year warranty is a good deal. Just make sure you know how to take advantage of their warranty (receipts, boxes, etc) before you need to. Taking pictures/scans of the receipts is a very good idea if you don't need the originals. Thermograph paper doesn't last too long.
They emailed the warranty information.
Had $37 in eBay Bucks and picked this up:

If you are waiting for Google Play Store, please don't wait for them. The best you can do is get free shipping or playstore credit. For retail, the price starts to come down after a few months. If it is close to Christmas, Easter or any major holidays then there are great deals to be taken.
On a new device like this, Google doesn't usually reduce the price. They may offer additional incentives for the holiday season, such as Play Store credit, free shipping, etc., but that's about it. The price won't be reduced until just before the next nexus phone is released, probably 4th quarter 2014. Of course, there's always the possibility of some crazy event affecting the norm... but I wouldn't count on it.
Phone is already cheap for what you get. Check out the Moto G for $200.

on sale!!?? just like the other user said the moto g mite be the phone for u.. the N5 is already crazy cheap for what u get.. do be honest one of the main reasons i got the n5 is the development it gets.. this is my first nexus phone and i love it.. i have had some many top of the line phone in the past 3 years and none of them come close to the love this phone gets.. i will never get another htc one.. or a galaxy phone again... im sticking with nexus:good:
I am fine with paying $349.That is a great price for the phone. What I am trying to decide is whether to purchase it now or wait for February when I will actually get to use the phone. I want to purchase it now, so that I can have it already. However, if it it might get reduced between now and then, it would be wise to wait. In the past have the prices stayed constant until the new model came out?

It dont get any better than what the price is on play store. Hell, I got a 32GB one and it was cheaper than what T-Mobile wanted for it. There's your savings lol

I'm done with Galaxy phones too. I booted up my S4 today to update it to the new MK2 OTA update because I'm getting it ready to sell. After a few weeks with my N5 I had already forgotten what a pain in the a$$ Knox is. Never again!
Should I get the OPO, or wait for the confirmed OnePlus Two? I mean, in a blog post, 3 winners of a photo contest get hands on w/ the two in hong kong. It's coming in Q3. Should I wait? Or gun it? I am stuck w/ an apple iphone 5 so :/
You should go for it. The price doesn't get better than what it is right now, $249 for the 64GB, and $349 with one year of Dropbox Pro. Plus, I read somewhere that OP is going to use the invite system to sell the OP2, which unless you don't mind the hassle is kind of a pain in the ass. I am keeping mine until I get more details about the OP2, if it doesn't come with a fingerprint support, I will probably move to next Nexus 6, but keep the OPO as my back up phone.

If I was faced with the same decision I'd still buy the OnePlus One now. It's cheap, you don't need an invite anymore, and it's a beast of a phone. The OnePlus Two isn't going to be as cheap, and they'll be reverting to the invite system again.

Yup, just go for it, considering the price.
I just received mine Saturday & I tell you the truth, I am very satisfied even after ditching my HTC One. I enjoy everything about this device & it sure is a beast indeed. Go for it, you won't regret it.

It's hard to know to be honest... I've had the OPO since July of last year and, as everyone in this thread has said, it's an amazing phone, and that doesn't even include the price. I would say it depends on what you're interested in. If you like having the 'latest and greatest' phone with the newest CPU / GPU and most RAM (like me ) etc, I'd wait. But if you just want a great phone that will be able to run the next few versions of Android and all the apps in the world (minus some future games that require OpenGL ES 3.1 or something, but that's a good way off yet!) and has a great community to back that up (even when OnePlus leave it behind), as well as an amazing price, I'd go for it.
Had the same kinda question facing me. Stick with my Nexus 5 until the end of the year when the OP2 or new Nexus' are out, or go for the OPO.
Went for the OPO. Blows my N5 out of the water and will take me until the end of the year. If the phones i mentioned above are too expensive I'm happy keeping the OPO into next year.
Helps i got £100 for my N5.
Feels like such a premium phone. Took it to work on Friday and people were amazed that it cost so little.
Still a fantastic phone for the price had mine well over a year and still going strong was considering upgrading this month but I am sticking with the OPO for longer. It does everything I need on a phone the screen is still good, battery life is excellent, takes decent daylight photos and is fluid on CM12.1.

Hey guys, this seems like the most relevant thread to post in, but I agree with some of the previous comments, I really like the specs on the OPO, I currently have an HTC M8, with the same chipset, which runs phenomenal, however AOSP ROMS aren't the best for HTC Devices, they've always suffered from a lot of bugs, and GPE support has started to lag behind with the M9 being out.
I just purchased a 64gb model and am anxiously awaiting for it to arrive. My question is, how is the overall build quality of this device? I wasn't impressed with the N5 build quality and from videos and pics, this phone looks solid, but I've read about numerous users complaining about touch screen issues. Is this phone pretty solid? And how are AOSP ROMS on this device? Pretty bug free? Thanks!
