Yeah... I'm also in the same position. Though they said they will release it in 2017... But they said the same thing last year so I really don't know.
I just want to avoid the thing that I would root, get a custom rom, whatever I want and the week after they would announce it...
Though...... I'm used to Android Pay so much that I probably don't even care anymore lol. When I'll feel like it, I'll probably just mod the sh*t out of my phone.

Android Pay doesn't use MST so it's useless as most places don't have contactless.
And besides, Barclays' own contactless mobile app is a lot better than Android Pay.

I agree that Samsung Pay would be best generally, and am also eager to use it in the UK however I disagree when you say most places don't have contactless here. Don't know which part of the UK you're in but here in Essex, it's hard to find somewhere that doesn't have contactless

In the UK? Are you kidding. I reckon 80% of shops in the UK have contactless and Android pay has worked every time I've used it....
I Don't see how Samsung Pay improves that?

In UK Samsung pay will only work on NFC enabled terminals as UK banks have refused to let Samsung Use MST for security reasons. So, you are actually not missing anything.

my nexus gets an update every month.
But not all phones
If you paid enough for the phone you'll get important updates, if you have a really cheap phone the manufacturer probably doesn't care

exactly!
you get what you paid for.
So no security for cheap phones
No not really, depends on a lot of things but for the most part no

you have the security of where it was when you bought it. so you have security.
you are expecting to pay a cheap price for a phone, then have it get all the latest updates and security, thats never going to happen.
it takes a lot of money to make and send updates, when the phone company sells cheap and dont make much money, there is no spare money to spend on these updates. there not going to sell it to you cheap, then loose money making updates for it. they would be out of business in no time.
Hey guys, old news perhaps but
apparently the Gear S2 and Samsung Pay is in closed beta..
looks like it will get much better for our cousins across the pond but no cigar for us folks in the UK..

The only way for our current watch to work is like you tried to use on your old note (nfc). Samsung s6 and up have mst which allows samsung pay to work so flawlessly because nfc doesn't work sometimes. Samsung should of put mst in our current watch honestly from the get go. When Google wallet came out (2011), it worked but most of the time it didnt, not like samsung pay today

Where I have looked everywhere
Either Samsung have given up or too many issues in the launch markets to date, still nothing in the UK.
From a marketing perspective, pretty much every retailer has the Apple Pay logo, a few the Google, i tried using my Barclays version with varying success, it failed to work at one retailer to which the sales rep said, ah you don't have an iPhone.

I received a notification this morning also that Samsung Pay for Gear was ready for download. I'm guessing it's part of the public rollout. Haven't downloaded it yet, but will when I get time. Will report back.
(EDIT) The notification was for the Beta version, so I guess it's not the official rollout yet. I may still try it, IF I can find one of my cards that it supports!
Got it, got excited ... but none of my cards will register, same cards registered on my phone won't go through for the watch.
Lame
I had to call my bank twice to verify. Did it once and an hour later I reset the watch app and tried again. Went through in seconds that time. Haven't tried it out yet.
Just saw the update popped up on my Gear S2 today. Installed the app and registered a card. :good:

That can't be answered for upcoming devices that haven't been released to the market yet, it can be answered for devices that are currently on the market though.
I can certainly tell you that all new Nexus devices(pixel devices now) are always rootable as soon as they hit the market and they usually have plenty of custom development available and are easy to modify and recover. A Google Nexus/Pixel device is always a good choice.

Any phone from a popular manufacturer (samsung, google,Lenovo,Motorola) generally have a very healthy community of modders which release the exploits in order to root such phones.so a phone from either of these manufacturers is a good bet if you want to root your phone.

AT&T probably offers Google phones, try finding a Google Pixel or one of the recent Google Nexus phones, AT&T should have them.
Besides, you can get the google phones directly from the Google store on payment plan, go to the Google store or Best Buy.

Yeah, that's a service provided by google that uses multiple networks including your home WiFi to serve your activated project fi device no matter where you are and syncs your devices and your google account including your PC if you're signed into google on it. Base fee of $20 plus your data, you pay before you use the data and any left over is reimbursed to your payment account where you can cash it in or apply it to the next month.

iPhone isn't worth having, Samsung flagship devices usually have root and lots of support as long as they don't have a locked bootloader(most newer models of Samsung devices have locked bootloader that can't be unlocked), high end LG devices usually have good support also, the mid range and low range LG devices typically don't get a lot of support.

All of the newer Sammy devices will be locked down. I dont see them reverting that due to their Samsung Pay.

im in the uk with a gear 3 frontier and s8 plus ,I'm confused re samsung pay or android pay
can i get android pay on my watch ?
is samsung pay available in uk?
many thanks
In short, no and no.
There is no android pay app for the S3 and the latest rumours are that Samsung pay will launch some where around 16th May but that is purely that, a rumour. It will come at some point this year so it's a waiting game for us Brits at the moment.

I am with the nationwide, you can always switch
I was wondering if you can use both of these payment methods on the same device or if it would cause issues. I don't see many places to use Samsung pay and the places that do nfc payments usually say Apple/Android pay only.
Samsung pay enables mag strip payments as the S8 has the relevant chip in therefore being more available than android pay as you can effectively use it at non contactless payment terminals.....however still not available here in blighty!
Samsung pay is accepted almost every where
I've been using Samsung pay for a while now. I can't find anywhere that does not work yet beside the gas station pump credit slot. It accept whether NFC enable terminal or not. On top of that, you got point by using Samsung pay. Awesome Samsung pay.
But can you have both of these enabled on the same phone? Anyone tried it?

I bet 1 out of every 4 transactions still don't use NFC so its fairly significant especially in places where it might otherwise be worthwhile - ie family run shops that have a VISA machine but might not want to upgrade to NFC readers due to cost! Sammy have made a poor call here.
However, as it uses KNOX security and an additional security check (on top of unlocking your device) is it really any more secure than Android Pay? I doubt it. Just adds inconvenience.

Seems Kyle from Samsung think he knows better and NFC is the way for the UK, so they now offer nothing over Android.
http://www.independent.co.uk/life-s...explained-how-does-it-work-card-a7737321.html
“For the UK launch, we’re going to focus on NFC and then we’ll look for opportunities to bring MST later on,” Kyle Brown, Samsung’s head of technology, content and launch management for the UK and Ireland, told The Independent.
“The UK market is very much trending towards NFC, which is why we’re focusing on that for Samsung Pay. Right now, we’re looking at whether we can use MST for loyalty cards or something like that in the future.”
Kyle hasn't done his research!
