Hey guys, I just got myself an unlocked ATT G4 H81010b. My girl and I got matching phones, and after she bought the bring your own phone ST SIM pack and transferred her number she received an OTA update. Her phone is now H81010o. I'm not sure if hers was a 10b before the update i didnt think to check. I did not want to set up my phone until I was able to figure out how to root it, however - now that I have found I need an OTA in order to root it (i havent seen any confirmed 10b roots, i cant find any 10b specific commands - i was going to use the "root injection method"). The only difference here is, I am simply moving my SIM from my G2 to my G4, so I'm wondering if this would make any difference as to whether i recieve an OTA or not? Furthermore, I am confused because all the research I have done indicates that ST doesnt do OTAs. But i do know that her phone restarted, downloaded a software update and installed it. Is it possible for me to manually install the update? I really would just like to root, install TWRP, and CM13 (or maybe I'll try a different ROM this time). I know this is a loaded question, but any help is appreciated.
I finally found a confirmed working H81010b rooted image, no need to update now.

My phone just let me know there is a new OTA ATT Software Update. Has anybody gone through with the update? What does it upgrade? Will I lose root if I upgrade?
Thanks ahead of time for any help you can provide.
Cheers,
Matt
It should be 10f and if it is it does not break root.
Seriously, people are still only just getting the 10f OTA? What gives? How can it take so long to push a simple update like this out to ALL AT&T LG G3 users? Where abouts in the world are you Matt?
Generally if the phone is old stock this happens. Many new stock devices come out of the box with 10f
I got my phone yesterday from an att corporate store. Came with 10d and it's asking me to update. I declined for now.
It will eventually force the update but you can still root 10f with stump mine forced today. What a great update though all the aux problems are fixed now no more popping sound and no more having to put power cord in to get it to work
Haha apparently ota with custom recovery is a bad idea. Back to frozen updates for me.....
My G3 is on 10d and it tells me that mine is up to date.
Hey Guys -
I've looked all through the forums for an answer, but couldn't find a concrete one nor one I was 100% would work for my specific device so decided to post the 3 questions I have...
I've got a Shield Tablet (Wi-Fi USA) which I bought pretty much on day one. Once Lollipop came out, I upgraded to it and in turn re-rooted it afterwards. About a week ago, i got the notification for the 5.0.1 OTA upgrade. I tried applying it by downloading the update then restarting when prompted, but when it came back up it was still at 5.0.0. I'm positive this is due to it being rooted and would still want (need) for it to be after the 5.0.1 upgrade so...
1. What's the best / safest way to apply 5.0.1 (from 5.0.0) to my tablet currently?
2. Will OTA not work if rooted which is why there are so many zip file links in the forums? If not, which update file do I need for USA WiFi only?
3. Once upgraded, what's the best / safest method for re-rooting again? I saw a few posts for how the bootloader needed to be unlocked. Don't know if that's still the latest info. Long way from Towel, huh?
I'm not asking anyone to spell it all out for me, but if you know what to do if you could send me links or whatever to the correct steps / files, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks guys!
This is an xpost from where i posted originally (Moto G - 2014) since I was in the wrong forum. Please forgive.
I'm running 4.4.4 stock on an XT 1040 (the LTE Canadian Rogers variant of the MotoG). I had unlocked the bootloader and rooted the phone, but other than that kept the stock image. About 2 weeks ago my wife, with the same model, was offered 5.0.1 (or some version of Lollipop) OTA. She upgraded no probs (other than hanging a long time on the download screen). About 3 days later I was offered OTA on my rooted MotoG. After running through the download, it rebooted and tried applying the update and got mid way through and rebooted back to 4.4.4 saying there was an error. I tried again, same problem. So I started reading posts and realized that while my image was stock, because of the way I must have gained root the OTA update wouldn't apply because the kernel must be altered.
So, I followed the instructions here (linky) to go back to the stock image, but now it's been about a week and I have not been offered the OTA again. A couple days ago I talked with Motorola about whether OTA is re-offered in situations like mine if its offered once and the guy said no and to call Google to get them to re-initiate it. I'm not really positive I trust that answer since he seemed kind of, well, "level1tech" and seemed anxious to get off the line.
Anybody know if the OTA is tied to your IMEI or google accounts and whether it's likely it will be offered again?
TIA
Hi,
I bought LG G flex 2 (sprint) pin packed. When i opened the box it was unlocked and i could use any sim i want. I reset my phone plenty of times but it didnt asked me amy activation code. It is currently operation on zv6 version software. I want to know how i can find out the activation code on my phone? Is there anyway? Because i am thinking to upgrade it to zv9.
If your phone is unlocked, meaning it can be used with any carrier with their SIM cards and it's never complaining or not working (never saying "Invalid SIM" and everything works, calls, SMS/MMS, etc) then you can do pretty much whatever you want in terms of upgrading to ZV9 (just remember once you do that you can't go back to ZV6 of course but why would you).
Upgrading to a newer build of the OS won't affect the unlocked status - the upgrade doesn't muck with the carrier folder on the device so, if it's truly unlocked presently it'll still be unlocked after the upgrade.

Thanks for you advice but now i have another issue. When the software is installing it gives an error and stops the update. That means some files are missing and if i flash the software then i am toast.
Can't help much there, you haven't provided enough actual information to work with. For me and this Flex 2 I got a few days ago, I had issues myself: it was on ZV5 unrooted so I took all the OTAs for ZV6, ZV7, ZV8, and then ZV9 and it was working fine, then I decided (instead of doing the actual root process itself) to flash the ZV9 rooted system image and that broke things somehow. I restored ZV8 from the TOT file, still had problems, did it again, still problems, then I finally said what the hell and flashed the ZV9 stock image on ZV8 and it worked for some reason. So then I flashed the rooted ZV9 system image and voila, now everything works as it should.
Would still like to get that ZV9 TOT at some point but if someone is out there trying to charge people $30 for it, that's a bit stupid in my opinion.
Anyway, my Flex 2 is now running great with ZV9 rooted with Xposed and the one module I use and I have no intentions of altering it again till I can figure out how to get it working with T-Mobile 100% (the current unlocking procedures are not working for me in my situation).

So what do you suggest should i stay with my current version and wait for developers to build something cool?
You could build something yourself I suppose, I'm happy with my Flex 2 at this point (still need to replace the glass/digitizer but that's a given).

I am happy too but i just want to upgrade it.
im sorry if this is in the wrong section but ,ok so i bought an open box galaxy s6 from becetech online and it would not let me update the firmware past 5.1.1 which made me a bit suss, downloaded root checker app and it came too me rooted. apart from not being able to update the firmware past 5.1.1 as far as im aware the phone has no issues and works perfectly fine. i downloaded the *samsung* phone info app, in general under manufacturer it says Samsung/verizon so im assuming that is part of the reason they rooted the phone as it needed to be unlocked from verizon to be refurbished? so what i want to know is how do i find out exactly what becetech have done to the phone and is there an easy way for me to update the firmware to nougat or at least marshmallow without stuffing the phone, like i said the phones running fine its just really bugging me not being to update. obviously im not able to work it out myself but i can follow instructions so any help from someone would be greatly appreciated so thank you in advance.

Could someone with a bit more knowledge please tell me if the reason I can't update the firmware is because the firmware csc is TGY when I'm in Australia or just because it's rooted or what? I'm getting no answers from the company who I bought it off

Are you trying to update via the phone update feature? If so this won't work as rooting disabled the ability Update using ota
First I tried OTA then downloaded samsung smart switch and gave that a go both no good. What I want to know is, if they had to root the phone to refurbish it will it brick it if I try to update? Won't it reset all the company I bought it off has done to it to refurbish it? Which I'm guessing is quite a process as when I look at the open source licenses there's a long list of files that have been changed. It just sucks that it's locked to a three year old version of the firmware that I'm worried apps will start to stop supporting in the near future? Apart from that I can not fault the phone there's been no problems, maybe I'm asking a bit much for a $400 phone?

From what I can tell you have a g920v variant if the phone Shows Verizon but the sure fire way to know what variant you have is turn the phone off once off hold home-power-volume down, this will take you to download mode but should tell you your variant. You don't need to root a phone to refurbish It, you can flash Stock firmwares via Odin. I really don't know why they would have Rooted It tbh, you'd need to contact them, but I know for sure you can manually download the latest Verizon firmware and the phone should work. Maybe they Rooted it as part of making it network unlocked, o really can't say
Ok I tried that and a bright blue screen came up warning about custom OS then press up volume for download and down volume for reset? I just pressed down as there was no other info on the screen but it does say it's a sm-g920v in the settings as well as the root checker app. Another thing was I did ring samsung support gave them the serial number and IMEI and they said an authorized modification had been done on the phone but could offer no other support as it wasn't an Australian phone. I'll keep trying to get some info out of the company I bought it off and try to sort it out thanks for your help :good:
