Hey Guys -
I've looked all through the forums for an answer, but couldn't find a concrete one nor one I was 100% would work for my specific device so decided to post the 3 questions I have...
I've got a Shield Tablet (Wi-Fi USA) which I bought pretty much on day one. Once Lollipop came out, I upgraded to it and in turn re-rooted it afterwards. About a week ago, i got the notification for the 5.0.1 OTA upgrade. I tried applying it by downloading the update then restarting when prompted, but when it came back up it was still at 5.0.0. I'm positive this is due to it being rooted and would still want (need) for it to be after the 5.0.1 upgrade so...
1. What's the best / safest way to apply 5.0.1 (from 5.0.0) to my tablet currently?
2. Will OTA not work if rooted which is why there are so many zip file links in the forums? If not, which update file do I need for USA WiFi only?
3. Once upgraded, what's the best / safest method for re-rooting again? I saw a few posts for how the bootloader needed to be unlocked. Don't know if that's still the latest info. Long way from Towel, huh?
I'm not asking anyone to spell it all out for me, but if you know what to do if you could send me links or whatever to the correct steps / files, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks guys!

Hello,
I got the nexus one about 3 months ago with android 2.1. I bought it from the u.s. but had to hack it in order to use it here, so now, when I got the update alert on my phone, I keep on "later" it because I know I have to first back up all the hacking, files etc and then to update the version.
so,
first question- how can I backup my phone so I won't have to hack it again after updating androind to 2.2?
second question- where can I find detailed instructions on how to update it?
thanks!
Hi all,
I"m living in Germany, but I bought my HAM7 in January in Dubai.
Today I received an OTA which is MT7-TL10_channel_MT7-TL10V100R001C00B128.
I"m wondering if someone already did that update and whether it's 5.1.
Thanks!
Hi, no this is a previous update.
5.1 is 300B
Probably, since 5.1 is an update and not a full OTA, it will come when you have an intermediate updated version of android. So go on, update to this suggested rom and wait for a following one.
guys
I make it root with kingoroot app and has told me its root your device . reboot it and no root on my device and try to install root checker on play Google and also told me no root
OSN play told me there is root on my Device ...
how can un-root my device and this root if existing can make OTA update or not ????
please help me

Thanks for your answer, you"re confirming what I found out as well. This update is 4.4.2.
Currently I can't really see any improvements, maybe they are hidden under the hood.
not sure if I got your question correctly. I rooted my device a week after I bought it in January, following the guidance I found in a different place on a German website. However, the process was a bit more complex compared to other devices I've rooted in the past. Especially the way of getting the id-numbers on a Chinese website was somehow challenging. Anyway, immediately after successfully rooting the mate7, I replaced the CWM recovery with stock recovery and from there I did receive the OTA"s which I seamlessly could install.
If your question is more general on rooting the HAM7 you should consult to the other more specific threads here on XDA
This is an xpost from where i posted originally (Moto G - 2014) since I was in the wrong forum. Please forgive.
I'm running 4.4.4 stock on an XT 1040 (the LTE Canadian Rogers variant of the MotoG). I had unlocked the bootloader and rooted the phone, but other than that kept the stock image. About 2 weeks ago my wife, with the same model, was offered 5.0.1 (or some version of Lollipop) OTA. She upgraded no probs (other than hanging a long time on the download screen). About 3 days later I was offered OTA on my rooted MotoG. After running through the download, it rebooted and tried applying the update and got mid way through and rebooted back to 4.4.4 saying there was an error. I tried again, same problem. So I started reading posts and realized that while my image was stock, because of the way I must have gained root the OTA update wouldn't apply because the kernel must be altered.
So, I followed the instructions here (linky) to go back to the stock image, but now it's been about a week and I have not been offered the OTA again. A couple days ago I talked with Motorola about whether OTA is re-offered in situations like mine if its offered once and the guy said no and to call Google to get them to re-initiate it. I'm not really positive I trust that answer since he seemed kind of, well, "level1tech" and seemed anxious to get off the line.
Anybody know if the OTA is tied to your IMEI or google accounts and whether it's likely it will be offered again?
TIA
Hello Folks
This morning I noticed, Tmobile pushed a 60mb update to my phone. I am rooted and unlocked but not on a custom rom.
Please advice what I need to do.
Thanks in advance
Regards
Is there any issuse with the update
I have not updated. As I mentioned I am rooted and unlocked. Not sure what to do hence posted my question in the forum.
I do not want to lock the bootloader. Just curious to see what others who might have got this update are doing about it.

1. You don't have to worry about lock bootloader
2. Which Software version are you running? v10e, v10i or v10j?
3. If you update there is a way to downgrade cuz we have previews KDZ's
I am running version 10i,
I am guessing tmobile wants to upgrade me to v10j. Is there a flash able version for 10j that I can use?
Thanks

Ok, you can go here and update to the latest version v10j using @GameTheory. V10j Full update/pre-rooted/untouch TWRP.

dummy you can't update that way you must remove all traces of root which the app can't do use the KDZ
If you are rooted and it says system update DO NOT INSTALL IT... it will brick your phone

Okay, so I recently bought a used Moto G LTE, seller said it would be on Lollipop 5.1. When I received it, it had been rolled back to 4.4.4. Hence the screen ripple at every boot up (which persists until the phone is locked and then unlocked) that almost gave me a heart attack the first time. A little googling later I learn this happens because while you can downgrade android the upgraded version's bootloader remains. So last night I finally got around to rooting since I just can't go from a rooted phone to living with a non rooted one, feels like my phone has a noose around it. Anyway I wanted to know if it's safe to flash CM on my phone now or should I reupgrade to 5.1 first? And if I should is there a way to get it to update OTA again? If not any suggestions where to find the firmware? I just want to feel free to flash roms without bricking my phone. Hi.
In my xt1040, i can flash CM 12 lollipop or a stock rom based from kitkat 4.4.4 without problems (I have a updated bootloader), to get OTA updates again, its necessary flash the stock rom (KK or LP), without root, PURE stock (with all "bloatware").
Now im using a optimized rom from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/4g-development/rom-stock-motorola-4g-lollipop-rom-t3142816
No bugs, amazing battery life, and a pure stock, no "bloatware", great ram management.
Sorry for bad english.

You'll have to wipe the system anyway, updating it will be a waste of time...
