Phone reboots itself - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

Hi.
I have a problem. My s7 reboots itself. Sometimes it works for a day, but sometimes it reboots after 5 min of using.
When it's started phone was rooted and was flashed custom rom. It works on this rom for 2-3 weeks with no problem, but after I charged ones it starts to restarted by itself. I menage to flash original firmware 6.0.1. but the problem still exist.
Does it mean motherboard is broken?

i have the same problem.. any solution? i'm afraid my phone won't be under warranty because i broke the back glass and triggered the knox counter

No solution here.

This is corrupt motherboard. Had the same issue and got it replaced. Also got these weird artefacts on the screen.

Are you using xposed?I've had similar issues!

It's happening both with stock with exposed or nougat Beta without xposed
Do you know how long does it takes to get the motherboard replaced? Thanks

I had 3 reboots since Friday. I'm on noughat beta (3), so I'm not sure if it is problem with the rom, or something else. Mine just reboots, without heating and freezing or any artifacts on the screen. I didn't do anything heavy, like gaming or something. 1st reboot occurred after phone call end, second after unlock, 3rd on home screen. I don't have xposed, but I'm using high speed sd card and I have a rooted device. I uninstalled greenify and turned off auto updates. When I return home after work, I will try to update the rom. Nothing happens when I'm playing games, doing benchmarks or other heavy tasks.

I had this same problem. Mine froze and restarted itself and sometimes even factory reset itself. Sent into the service center and cost me $359 as the phone PCB (motherboard) needed to be replaced

Why did you have to pay $359 when the phone hasn't even been out for a year? Weren't you under warranty?

[Q] [HELP] Phone suddenly freeze and show weird screen

Hi, I have been looking all over the internet and search the xda thread but I couldn't find anything related to my problem.
So this morning when I wake up, I turned on my phone and after I used it for awhile suddenly my phone stopped working (freeze/hang) and started to reboot itself. After it reboots my phone's screen as per attached below.
The problem lasted for a day and started to driving me nuts!
Anyone experienced same problem?
I am running KK4.4.2 fyki.
Thank you very much for your kind help!
are you unlocked, rooted, custom recovery, rom, kernel, anything? can you access the bootloader?

Nope, I am all stock without any modification nor and fancy stuffs.
Just pure android 4.4.2
I am thinking that the hardware might be faulty..

If you're stock, it could be hardware. Though have you ever attempted to root?
Is it just randomly happening?
Definitely hardware

Yes, it just randomly happening. It started yesterday morning until now..
The phone started to not responding at all and then my screen goes broken (same screen as broken TV I might say).
If I let it cool for 15-20 minutes the phone is usable, but then after 1 hour of normal usage the phone started to freeze again.
Just curious, none of you experienced the same?
this kinda looks like the static i was getting on screen on my n7 2012 when i let the battery get too low. charging it up and a few reboots fixed it. but im not sure if that's what is going on with yours

I just got mine, 32gb from the playstore, a few days ago, and nothing like that.
If it's happening when your device is hot | overheating, you may wana see if you get it replaced.
It happened to me once. The phone was with his screen off and when I try to turn it on that exact same screen came. But it just happened once, also I experienced random poweroffs and reboots. I did a factory reset and power off issues and freeze stops, but had one reboot once I start installing my apps. I think its a software issue but I'm not sure.

I'm glad (and kinda of sad) to know that I'm not the only one with this issue.
The problem started about two weeks after I bought mine(Telus). It's done this about 5 or 6 times, randomly.
I found that having someone call me will "unfreeze" the device and the screen gets back to normal.
The first couple times it happened, I was running stock 4.4.2. I since rooted it and installed Xpposed/GravityBox and I'm still getting the problem...
I think that I'll have to return it...
Idk if i need RMA the phone. Its a great phone and the reboot issues has stopped. What should i do?

Hi, I have the exact same problem, I posted a video on youtube /watch?v=m0EkC_ak01g but I got to the same conclusion that it might be a GPU issue. So there is nothing I can do right?, the worst thing is Im in Argentina and LG dont take my warranty because I bought it in Germany. So there is absolutely nothing I can do?, I know how to avoid the flickering a little bit, when I hit "Ok Google" button it seems responsive and as long as I touch the screen it works (you can see it in the video) but as soon as I stop touching it, after 2-3 seconds it becomes unresponsive again, and when I say unresponsive Im saying the screen doesnt reflect what Im doing, I can still push the buttons and all. So Im not 100% sure its a GPU issue, but a software too. Thanks.

Galaxy J700H Overheating Issue

Hey Guys,
My phone started overheating today. I was not doing anything special, and I have not changed the system in the past couple weeks.
I was using bluetooth when I noticed it, I turned off Bluetooth and nothing changed.
I booted my phone into safe mode and checked that too, it was still getting hot.
Then after letting my phone cool down I tried TWRP. Even in TWRP the CPU temp would go up to 53C in a few minutes.
I'm not sure if my device is just going to die, but I'm kind-of disappointed in it.
Have you guys experienced this? Have you had a way to fix it?
Thanks,
-Dacooter

UPDATE:
So, I 100% voided my warranty and tripped KNOX
I decided to try my luck with the warranty anyway.
I took my phone to thebSamsung service center here in Nepal. They said they would have to look at it then get back to me. I patiently waited. They replaced the whole motherboard. KNOX = 0x0000
Thanks Samsung Nepal.
If any of you have issues and are in Nepal, you may have luck.

I can't factory reset my phone

For the last couple of weeks I was unable to restart my phone without a yellowish little box with white stripes (5mmx5mm) appearing in the center of the screen I can't even reset it to factory settings because of this. If I want to turn my phone back on I need to let it stay like that for 10-15 minutes than restart it again and it turns on. If I try to restart it right away it comes back. My phone is an Alcatel One Touch Idol 3 5.5 (6045Y) with android 6.0.1.
Are you trying to let the phone boot normally by only pressing the power button or trying to enter recovery mode by pressing volume and power?

I'm trying both. But the same thing is happening. When the phone turns on the little box appears and I can't do anything.
This was happening for the last couple of weeks but after 15 minutes I could turn my phone back on but today I couldn't turn my mobile data on so I restarted the phone couple of hours ago and since then I can't turn it back on.
Sounds like a possible hardware problem. Any way to get it resolved under the manufacturer's warranty?

Yeah I begin to think that is a hardware problem because I had to change the screen couple of months ago but the problem appeared couple of weeks ago.
The warranty has expired in december so I will have to deal with this phone for now.
Thank you anyway for your replies.
Good luck with the repair.
Since the problem appears before the ROM loads, it's probably hardware-related. Was the phone recently dropped?

No first it started having random inputs on the screen. It would fix by locking and unlocking the phone but then I would get really laggy so after rebooting the phone the little box appeared.

Not for this phone in particular, but from my past experience with replacing screens on different phones (at least half a dozen times)...
Since you had your screen replaced, and you are having a couple of different symptoms that seem to be hardware-related, I would suggest checking the connectors first. It's possible that a connector got dirty or oxidized, or was not attached properly. If you did the job yourself, it shouldn't be a problem for you to check this. If you had a repair shop do it, see if you can get them to look into it.
Another possibility is that the replacement screen assembly might be defective...

Yes it was a fall but I don't think that was the cause for the recent problems I have. Actually in the last couple of days I think I found the real cause. The power button is not working properly so I have to press it really hard in order to unlock my phone. This however was very annoying so I started using an external battery in order to unlock the phone ( When I plug in the phone it unlocks). And since I stopped using the power button almost all problems stopped. ( I said almost because the phone has still random inputs but not as severe as before)

Bootloop after water drop

Hello,
so my sister droped her phone in water and gave it to me to repair it. Because it didn´t boot up at all I cleaned the motherboard with isopropanol. After this I charging worked but I was still stuck in the powered by android screen. (The phone tries to reboot every 10 seconds or so). I did flash twrp and could save all of her data via mtp. After that I tried to flash a custom rom, a stock rom with samsung smart switch and a stock one via odin. It always did work but the phone is still stuck in the powered by android screen and wont boot up
Is there anything left I can do or is the phone lost?
Thank you very much for your help!
Looks like too much mess with hardware, do youself a favour and do not mess with it anymore and get a help from 3rd party service (not samsung ofc, they would charge you a hell of a lot)
Sounds really familiar. I do repair phones for my work and a customer with a custom ROM had the same problem. I also tried everything, custom ROM, stock ROM, update, downgrade, etc... Nothing worked. Keeps rebooting. In the end a mainbord swap was the only solution. I'm afraid , especially after water damage , this could be the case with your s6.

Last option before going to 3rd party sercvice....
Put the mainboard in rice for 24-48 hours and then check again!
it worked for me on my old Note 3

I already bathed the mainboard in Isopropanol for 48 hours. There shouldnt be any water left by now She will probably sell the display and buy a new phone because a new mainboard would be to expensive.

Ghost touching (phone doing random things by itself)

Hello, yesterday I received my phone. For the first hour it was working fine. But later, when I locked the phone I couldn't enter my password or shut down because phone started touching random things by itself. Did a factory reset but after that I can't even setup the phone because it doing random things by itself. Tried to discharge the phone and leave it overnight. But the next day it was the same story. I even peeled of screen protector but no luck. I think it's not system related issue, might be that I got the faulty one with bad touchscreen? Has anyone had this issue?
Mine doesn't has any touch issues. Seems a manufacturing defect, better off exchanging/returning it.

The problem is that I bought it overseas and returning it back would take very long because of the corona I"m wondering what's the problem could be, touchscreen or something more serious like motherboard. If it only screen I might change it by myself
Return it under warranty. The second you open it that is gone and if the problem persists, then you are screwed...
Not only have you lost the purchase price of the phone but the cost of the replacement screen too which generally aren't cheap...

Yeah, I get it. Also, Xiaomi have international warranty or only local? Because would be great if it could be changed at my country. But as far as I know it has just local warranty from where it was bought or am I wrong?

Idk, just randomly. I was using it for about an hour. Locked the phone for about 5min. And after that I couldn't enter my pin and read fingerprint because phone started randomly touching screen. I can't even shut down the phone screen is always on until battery discharges.

from where is your phone region? it can happen from many possibilities. maybe from the kernel. You can try to flash using miflash according to the firmware region.
or try to enter stock recovery, is it random touch or not. (vol + & power)
new phone is still a warranty, it's good to go to a xiaomi service center
My case was, when the phone was brand new power button was stucked . But after using it few times, everything was fine. It didn't happen again

In my case it was faulty digitizer, after replacament everything is fine. I bought it overseas so no international warranty, but seller refunded me half the price. I went for the screen replacment and after that everything works fine.
