Hey Guys,
My phone started overheating today. I was not doing anything special, and I have not changed the system in the past couple weeks.
I was using bluetooth when I noticed it, I turned off Bluetooth and nothing changed.
I booted my phone into safe mode and checked that too, it was still getting hot.
Then after letting my phone cool down I tried TWRP. Even in TWRP the CPU temp would go up to 53C in a few minutes.
I'm not sure if my device is just going to die, but I'm kind-of disappointed in it.
Have you guys experienced this? Have you had a way to fix it?
Thanks,

UPDATE:
So, I 100% voided my warranty and tripped KNOX
I decided to try my luck with the warranty anyway.
I took my phone to thebSamsung service center here in Nepal. They said they would have to look at it then get back to me. I patiently waited. They replaced the whole motherboard. KNOX = 0x0000
Thanks Samsung Nepal.
If any of you have issues and are in Nepal, you may have luck.

Well, what the title says. It's becoming extremely annoying. Any suggestions?
what rom are you on?
I was on stock UCLA3, but when this problem occured I completely went back to stock. Still exists.
have you tried to do a 3e recovery factory restore?
I don't know what to do, honestly. I'm open to any suggestions! I'll look that up, thanks in advance.
Flash a custom rom with good kernel!
Well, I returned the phone to its original state. Exactly how I bought it.. The problem still exists. I don't think this is a kernel/rom issue.
What does ATT look at when they do exchanges? My counter says 2, is that a bad thing? Or can I just say I was trying to restore it because it kept shutting off and I didn't exactly know what I was doing? It has to be something with the hardware.

Yeah thats a bad thing, but they probably wont say anything. Don't mention anything about the counter
I started having the exact same issue this last weekend, took my phone into At&t warranty center, they replaced the battery and did a reflash back to factory rom. Still had the issue after that. The problem didn't start till after I took it out of my otter box and started taking the back off to pull the battery for rooting and flashing roms. Since i have put the phone back in the otter box case I have not had it restart on my yet. I am thinking it is a loose back cover and the battery is being knocked loose and then back in place hence the restarts. Just some of my observations from my own experiances with this same problem.
Ironically, mine has never happened until I took it out of the Otterbox Commuter case.
luckily i haven't had this issue, and i have removed it like 8-10 times before learning I didn't have to...
I took my phone to the att store so they could look at it.. I explained what was going on and the guy told me he was going to check the counter.. BUT he never did. He ordered me a new battery, and if that does not work they will send me a new phone. However, i'm going to get the new phone anyway.
Reboot issues and battery
Ok, same problem here, ICS leaked 4.0.3, Samsung Galaxy S2 skyrocket. Thought it was setcpu and/or busy box, not.. I notice that when I moved my phone in an odd manner it would reboot. Removed the battery cover and noted that there was play in where the battery sat, so much so that I was able to stick my finger nail into the separation, I don't know call it a half a cm. Any way, I took some note book paper, made a wedge so the battery was nice and tight... so far so good. Will let you know.
I'm not sure if this will be any help or not. My phone has done the same thing a couple of times and at least twice I've noticed that it was because I had the phone in my pocket and I was accidentally holding down the power button when I was bending over/squatting/etc. As for the other times it has restart on its own, I have no idea. It's been at least a month since those happened though.
Hey guys, this is the first time I am writing on XDA although I have read and followed many of the threads on it.
My phone suddenly decides to shut off with no reason and the battery level go crazy. I would reboot the phone and see the battery level go back to normal. I has happen while listening to music or even answering a call.
I had this problem on ever since my device received an over the air update from Bell. (Mind you I am not a different provider: Telus).
Since then I S-OFF, ROOTED and started installing custom ROMS and kernels. The problem seams persistent... I even exchanged batteries with a buddy of mine who has the same phone and had similar problem to mine. Not sure what to do.
Any suggestions?!

I have had this problem off and on since March on T-Mobile USA with a phone purchased in June of 2011. Intermittent shutdowns, reboots, crazy battery levels, etc. In the end, anything that increased the battery drain even a little would cause the phone to shut down. After several calls to tech support, and a visit to a retail store, I finally got a warranty replacement for the phone. No other battery replacement or software fixed the problem, including the OTA 4.03 update. My speculation is that the battery voltage sensor was faulty.
The replacement unit is working great (so far.)
In summary, if you are still in warranty, flash the stock RUU, restore S-ON, and go for a warranty exchange.

try this fix in this thread it worked fine for me http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1622683 peace
I am going to try the try the trick with the battery push trick. If this is the case, I will be EXTREMELY happy. If not, I wonder how will I be able to bring the phone for warranty on bell since the phone is on a different network.
Any way, I will post an update to see if it fixed the problem!
TX a lot!

so ,how does it going..?
So far not a single restart. I will have to wait a few days before I can confirm but my phone was not restarted since last night, when I did the little trick. My phone also charged faster during the night (it used to get stuck at 70% and then go extremely slow). I don't know how this is possible or if its a placebo effect but so far it seams to work. I will know for certain in the next two days.
Hi, I have been looking all over the internet and search the xda thread but I couldn't find anything related to my problem.
So this morning when I wake up, I turned on my phone and after I used it for awhile suddenly my phone stopped working (freeze/hang) and started to reboot itself. After it reboots my phone's screen as per attached below.
The problem lasted for a day and started to driving me nuts!
Anyone experienced same problem?
I am running KK4.4.2 fyki.
Thank you very much for your kind help!
are you unlocked, rooted, custom recovery, rom, kernel, anything? can you access the bootloader?

Nope, I am all stock without any modification nor and fancy stuffs.
Just pure android 4.4.2
I am thinking that the hardware might be faulty..

If you're stock, it could be hardware. Though have you ever attempted to root?
Is it just randomly happening?
Definitely hardware

Yes, it just randomly happening. It started yesterday morning until now..
The phone started to not responding at all and then my screen goes broken (same screen as broken TV I might say).
If I let it cool for 15-20 minutes the phone is usable, but then after 1 hour of normal usage the phone started to freeze again.
Just curious, none of you experienced the same?
this kinda looks like the static i was getting on screen on my n7 2012 when i let the battery get too low. charging it up and a few reboots fixed it. but im not sure if that's what is going on with yours

I just got mine, 32gb from the playstore, a few days ago, and nothing like that.
If it's happening when your device is hot | overheating, you may wana see if you get it replaced.
It happened to me once. The phone was with his screen off and when I try to turn it on that exact same screen came. But it just happened once, also I experienced random poweroffs and reboots. I did a factory reset and power off issues and freeze stops, but had one reboot once I start installing my apps. I think its a software issue but I'm not sure.

I'm glad (and kinda of sad) to know that I'm not the only one with this issue.
The problem started about two weeks after I bought mine(Telus). It's done this about 5 or 6 times, randomly.
I found that having someone call me will "unfreeze" the device and the screen gets back to normal.
The first couple times it happened, I was running stock 4.4.2. I since rooted it and installed Xpposed/GravityBox and I'm still getting the problem...
I think that I'll have to return it...
Idk if i need RMA the phone. Its a great phone and the reboot issues has stopped. What should i do?

Hi, I have the exact same problem, I posted a video on youtube /watch?v=m0EkC_ak01g but I got to the same conclusion that it might be a GPU issue. So there is nothing I can do right?, the worst thing is Im in Argentina and LG dont take my warranty because I bought it in Germany. So there is absolutely nothing I can do?, I know how to avoid the flickering a little bit, when I hit "Ok Google" button it seems responsive and as long as I touch the screen it works (you can see it in the video) but as soon as I stop touching it, after 2-3 seconds it becomes unresponsive again, and when I say unresponsive Im saying the screen doesnt reflect what Im doing, I can still push the buttons and all. So Im not 100% sure its a GPU issue, but a software too. Thanks.
Hi guys,
I have a problem that I've never seen or heard of before. So here is the situation:
Power button didn't work, so RMA'd phone. Got different phone back and instantly rooted/installed custom rom. Didn't notice anything until a month later. My phone would randomly just lag out and the wifi would stop. It would still show connected and that there was uploading activity, but that is all. When I clicked it to disable, nothing would happened. I would have to restart the phone, disable it for a while then re-enable it. I though it was the rom so I switched. Noticed the same thing is happening. I decided to play around with my sim, so I took it out and then put it back in, and it somehow fixed the problem. So I was assuming it was the sim causing the problem. Worked perfect for a week then started happening again. I did the thing with the sim and it didn't work this time. I still have the problem now.
Basically, my wifi would just stop working, when I click on it the phone lags out and freezes. I have to restart the phone and it will work. Sometimes Itll work for a full day then all of a sudden just stop. Sometimes it happens just a few minutes after restarting. I mostly find that it happens when the battery is less than 20%. Right now I am running stock LP, locked bootloader. I was supposed to send it in but they wouldn't accept it because I was 6 days over my warranty. So I'm not sure if I was send a faulty phone and now I'm stuck with it?
LG said I would be charged $150 flat rate for them to fix it which sucks. I'd rather just get a new phone and stay away from LG in the future.
Any suggestions? Also this was happening on KK at first then I tried LP Roms and same thing. I have never flashed any radio since I got the phone, could this be a possible solution?

You would get the same reply from pretty much any company, once it is over the warranty period then it is over the warranty period, this is no reason to "stay away from LG". Most charge a flat rate since they're likely to simply do a motherboard/whatever board swap if the fault is to do with internal components, as it is much easier/cheaper for them to do this compared to diagnosing and repairing/replacing things individually.

Try a different radio version. If it doesn't change anything then you have a hardware problem.

The only reason I said I would stay away is because it seems that I sent in my phone with a problem only to receive another one with a different problem. I'll try the radios tonight, hopefully it works.
Thanks, I'll keep you guys posted.

You mentioned that you only ran into issues after a month. During that month a hardware issue could have possibly developed and the device was fine when you initially received it.
Known LP bug.. Thats why i still stay with kk

I would check this out, if i was you.!
Reason,
one of my old Samsung phones, infact
a Note 8.0 Tablet, started with this
is same issue...." overheating" noticed
I ignored it for a few months.
as tablet seemed to be working fine.
Eventually, i then, started get to a point
when i get the "message" my tablet
would stop charging.
I had to wait for a while and try charging again.
After, many months (maybe +- 7..8..9 months)
My tablet did not want to charge. anymore.!
I eventually took tablet to a
Samsung Care Centre
It was the USB port/ charging port ... (ok we now have a C port)
Replaced port and all was fine again.
I would say don't ignore this "overheating" message.
Good luck

I'm not ignoring it as that's why I posted.
I don't want the phone if it continues this. So I don't know what to do if it happens again and it's still not hot.

I would take it back to a Samsung service center or call them.
I would also take screenshots of overheating message and if it follows any pattern.?
Use screenshots as you "proof" of the overheating issue.
Otherwise Samsung would just check device and say device is ok.
(You have to be fast as i know the overheating notice
only appears briefly for 3..4 seconds..?)
I personally believe that this "overheating" is a start of hardware issues... not a software issue.
You have factory resetted your phone, so if it
appears again at later stage... hardware issue!
I also factory resetted my old tablet and all was ok for a while... then overheating notices started to appear again.
Good luck
post note
Forgot, yes in beginning my tablet appeared / also did not feel hot. Reason why i ignored it.
Also thought /hoped it was a software issue.
