PLEASE HELP!!!
Lastest Symbian phones produced by Nokia have got a very decent hardware (1.3 Ghz processor single core, 512 MB ram, 600 MB NAND) but they work exactly like the old 5800..I think it's a frustrating situation. I don't want to change phone due to stupid nokia limitations...
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, is there any possibility to install android or Windows phone 7 on those therminals?
PLEASE DON'T IGNORE THIS QUESTION =(
Why not just buy an Android or Windows Phone?
Because this community lives on portings, modifications, developments on terminals..and those nokia phones have not even been considered..why?

Sorry, but Elop singlehandedly killed Symbian two years ago with his "burning platform" memo. Even if xda didn't consider it enough in the past, it certainly no longer has a future.
But the problem is not Symbian platform, because I would like to understand if it's possible to replace it with any other OS..in my opinion the real problem is the nokia bootloader in general, in fact if it would be possible to modify it, other OS will be put on those nokia phones. This is one of the eldest bootloaders present on the phones, but it seems that nobody knows anything about it..
"The wonder of being part of a community like XDA is that it doesn’t take long before someone catches an inspiration and starts finding ways to put different flavors of an OS on their device—or even a different OS entirely." cit. [jerdog]
.
I know how you feel. I had an old WM 6.5 smart phone. It is slowly abandoned too. We have to accept the fact. I read on some article that Nokia is in dying situation now. Maybe because they failed to live up with the present.
well you can find good devs in daily mobile forums, they are very active symbian wise
should take a look there
Tell you what i still own a symbian and i love it as much as i love my one x ! The only active symbian forum left today (English) is forum.dailymobile.net if you didn't know that check it out and some devs out there could possibly help you better ! As far as android on symbian goes its practically un viable not because of low specs but locked bootloaders , hash checks. Even great symbian modders like coderus , danav have given up after bricking their devices dozens of times trying to unlock ! All that is possible as of now is to modify OFW to add few tweaks and stuff !
Maybe start a petition or something and ask Nokia/accenture to release sources(leaked s^3 sources aren't complete and are useless on belle ) because i know that there are still thousands of symbian users out there !
Btw which phone are you on ? Because the symbian experience on latest belle fp2 is far far better than what it used to be in the older days - the only thing i miss is apps !
---------- Post added at 09:47 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:37 PM ----------
Btw you are correct if we get right people to work on this then maybe its possible !

Thank you so much for the comprehension, it's a quite frustrating situation for Symbian-users, (and there are a lot of them)..because they bought a nokia phone even a few months ago (some phones are still sold in some stores) and they are abandoned:
- by nokia (no more major OS updates for Symbian after belle FP2)
- even on nokia apps (No nokia drive+ or Maps 3.0 will be relased).
- Microsoft is making fun of us because Microsoft apps have been relased but they are only crappy useless toys
- in addiction app-developers abandoned us (we have problems even to find out a decent facebook client, whatsapp has almost no integration with the system and fruit ninja doesn't even support the multitouch...simply ridiculous)
- "indipendent developers" (like modders and people on forums) can't do anything because nokia phones seem to be protected better than NASA computers =s
In conclusion: I have got a Nokia 701, so I am running nokia belle FP2 and it's not so bad (of course, in your hands you have got an 1.3 Ghz terminal but it doesn't seems at all, devices with the half of CPU-power run as good as my phone =_=" shame on nokia!), but the real problem is the total lack of decent apps, because the few developers who publish apps in the nokia store make the apps compatible with all Symbian versions (s60v3, s60v5, s^3), so the result is apps with crappy speed and graphics.
I didn't know that daily mobile was the most active Symbian forum, so I Will try to find an answer on that forum, even if my hopes are less than zero. I've alredy seen the twilight of Windows mobile, and it has been a sad experience...but I think that Windows 8 is the Worthy heir of WM6.5..
For now I would like to thank you all for your advices..and sorry for the outburst, but I am really angry for this situation...
Symbian is really a good flat-form. Too bad it was abandoned..

Nokia just didn't step up and got left behind. Tis s shame. The n86 and n96 were quality.
And obviously 3310

True but the recent lumia line up looks impressive !

dont worry man, i understand how you feel because if it wasnt that i lost my trusty N8 i still would be a symbian user so i know that feeling pretty well lol...
Nokia N8 The One V4.6.1 that was the last CFW i used when i lost my phone though i think the dev now has a 808 pureview , if i remember correctly you phone has quite some devs doing CFW for it
ps: i used to use for facebook this app called fMobi, imo i thought it was the best fb app out there you should check it out
Probably I found a clue..some years ago Linux has alredy been ported on Symbian S60v1 (see the Linux on SX1 project for example), with something that works similar to haret.exe for Windows mobile. I think there's to find a bug on Symbian^3 source code to be able to load the das U-boot (a Linux bootloader)...it can be a way, but it's purely theorical
Sorry but you have to accept the fact and buy yourself a proper Android device, unless you want to save your old device for hacking study.

Bro, @Jhayzt No one stole your questions.I ran down a check by searching comments in thread and found that you were the only one to ask question.
"'...................as point and shoot device............"
I think it's by mistake they have mention other user iamsabresh
as his comment was above yours so it might be by mistake.Ask admin to take a note by showing the screenshot of question you asked and telling which winner is wrongly printed ie iamsabresh or directing to your comment diretly. That might help.

Guys I request everyone not to purchase these honor branded devices, even though they are marketed as flagship killers they won't receive proper updates once the device gets past the 6-9 month period, you can't even expect security updates one has to literally beg them, its better to purchase one plus, Samsung and Sony flagships because they are at least guaranteed to receive security update when ever there is a bug and proper OS upgrades, they ditched their flagship honor 7 from receiving nougat update stating Kirin 935 soc isn't compatible with newer update, similar lines this year they ditched honor 8 which boasts another flagship SOC Kirin 950 , stating the same reason its not compatible with newer Oreo update, so it clearly means that kirin 9xx is a flagship grade chip set series from Huawei which is not supportive for future upgrades? So is it good to buy them even after knowing their compatibility issues with future upgrades? I had invested 29k INR in Nov 2016 during honor 8 launch time, India and purchased this device over one plus 3T trusting their 2 year software update policy and security updates for every 3 months, clearly they cheated me and I regret buying honor 8 using my hard earned money instead of one plus device, so i request everyone to boycott honor devices, but the strange thing is honor mid ranges like 655 equipped devices are confirmed for Oreo, its a clear case of cheating to drive growth of newer flagships by ditching older flagships, Huawei as a brand itself has lot of conspiracies surrounding it, its better if we developer community boycott such brands, Good that US regulatory authorities are imposing ban on huawei, I can see the future of this company going down the drain in the similar way they expanded
I request xda please don't support this brand for monetary gains and spoil your reputation!

Hi, I would first like to share that I'm a moderator on Doogee forums and am also a Doogee owner. I have a direct contact with the admin on Doogee which he has access directly to all Doogee department.
I have talked about the software issues arising and the development of it with the admin and feedback from members there, and it seems that we need help in improving the software side. The admin has approved my plan and I am speaking here in behalf of Doogee.
All we ask is help from experienced developers and programmers here to develop and help improve the software of all supported Doogee models. We need to know what we need to provide and what you will need in order for this to be possible. Please bear with me here, this is a big chance for XDA to be known better.
Doogee, for your information, has a very high potential to compete with popular brands like Vivo, Oppo, and even Samsung. Can you find a phone worth $300-$400 that has an insanely 8GB RAM of hardware? No. Their phones are powerful and yet the price is reasonable since the parts they use are direct and in return they can make it at a goid price unlike overpriced brands.
Please help us out here, just let us know with what resources are needed to make it possible. I will make sure that XDA will have its name on to the partnership with Doogee.
Thank you for your time!
Heinrich,
Doogee Moderator
We're calling out skilled and experienced devs out there
Let me clarify that we will be working on the official ROMs, not custom ones
Custom ones can be added later on.
Bump!
Please let me clarify that we are not only the one who will benefit here, but XDA as well. We will make sure to have your names as a credit and the XDA forum as well.
If someone here is interested, please leave a reply here. We just need to know what we will need to provide and help needed so we can get started on developing the software. There's quite a couple of things needed to improve Doogee's software here, thanks for your consideration.
One of the biggest things is kernel source code. Without it you will be hard pressed to improve anything. Next would be access to the code for the OS.
I can't say I have ever heard of the device as they are not sold in my country.
Their rugged devices are probably what they are best known for; they have devices sold / targeted in/at the US via mail order. It seems someone from alaska would probably be interested in them. The s80 and s90 models include a UHF radio / 'walkie talkie' feature.

They survive up here as much as any other. The walkie talkie feature is useless really. The distance between people is too great for this most of the time. Also it doesnt help that most OEM hardware (this one too) has a built in kill switch when the device hardware drops to 32 degrees or less. This will shut a phone down. Also in lot of places where you need a rugged phone, you really dont even get gps let alone a cell phone signal. Like one of my jobs puts me out in no cell phone or gps signal range for weeks on end. No phone (even a sat phone) does me any good out there. So we have gotten to the point of not even carrying one when we go out to places like that. Other then that. The only real things needed are an IPS rating. Anything else is just icing on the cake.
I'm glad to see xda and doogee working together.
As the title states I am glad to see xda and doogee working together it gives me some piece of mind as far as future support and updates go. From some of the posts read some people are not familiar with doogee simply explained they are a Chinese cell phone maker that make Android phones and recently are more well known for there line of rugged phones. First let me state that this is my first rugged grade phone I've owned also it's been my second phone from China if you count the tmobile revl plus/ yulong phone. For years I've looked at different rugged phones with with little to no interest they usually were overpriced and underpowered until I found out about the doogee line of rugged phones. After looking at there line of phones and the competition I decided to go with the doogee s70 lite for the cost performance and making a educated guess that it might possibly sell more then other rugged models. I also went with doogee because I like the idea of modular phones like the s90 have yet to see a company have much success with the concept I owned a moto z2 and the only add on I considered buying was the battery add on. Back to my point. I'm glad to see xda and doogee working together since day one of buying my s70 lite I've worried about support and updates and figured I'd eventually have to go the custom rom route or look towards third party updates. Anyway so far with my s70 lite I have not noticed any major bugs to mention or bring up so far I am quite pleased with how Stable things run. I am really impressed with the hello p23 chipset on how well it runs apps and how little power it consumes and how cool it runs on temperature I've ran qualcom soc phones for years and the few mtk chips I have ran seemed a bit laggy and unstable i must say mediatek really upped there game with the hello chipsets and would recomend one for multiple reasons. My only gripe with the s70 lite is how long it's been since it's had a security update release but overall i would recommend a doogee rugged s series phone to anyone that is tough on there phones at work. Only other thing that is a minor inconvienence is the recovery is in Chinese conji which I can't read a English translated recovery would be nice or a third party twrp/clockworkmod port for the s70 lite or the s series in general would be nice I have considered trying to do a port of twrp recovery for my s70 lite but due to being busy at work and little experience dealing with mtk chipsets I have not attempted it yet. Love my s70 I really hope doogee sticks around for a while. Would recommend there s series phones to anyone working in a industrial/blue collar field of work I work as a automotive technician and average breaking my phone every 2 months. Has been a month now with my s70 lite not a scratch on the screen and I've done some durability tests. Who wouldn't want a phone you can shower with lol. I've even considered trying to promote and spread the word about there s series phones so if doogee wants to send me some phone pamphlets I'd be more then happy to hand them out to my coworkers and others that work in my field. Also anyone reading this if you buy one try to order it direct from doogee I did not have the option when I bought mine I ordered mine off dx.com and I recommend getting the express shipping.
Without the kernel source code: no.
However, provide us with API documentation for the optional attachments, firmware source code, local OTA server config, kernel source code, the original build compile folder, and anything else that could be used to develop the phone, (repair manuals, etc) FOR FREE... then maybe we'll be more open to developing the phone for you.
Sorry if this is a bit harsh sounding, you guys make great phones

Hi my name is Jose, I was owner of DOOGEE MIX i ask too much time for kernel source and u didn't provide to me. Without kernel source we can't do nothing, for example a good custom kernel overclocked a custom rom. I think a good idea will be update the phone to a newer version. But pls give to devs like me kernel source and we will can help u to get a good stock rom.

Yeah this is stupid as hell. I still remember doogee phones ard 1-2 year back were preinstalled with malware(this can be found online). I suspect they might as well have put some weird **** inside the kernel source so they don't want to release the source code.
The thing is that they don't make kernel source and software by themselves, it is made by HCT, so they just do the hardware. So if they pay to HCT, they will can release kernel source, since HCT will gave it to them.
Thanks
Regards
Jose
I know this is an old thread, does anyone know if the kernel source is custom by HTC, and should we be contacting HTC to release the kernel source code?
I have a DooGee S95 Pro and it's a decent phone between the S95 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G is a great phone. Whichever phone gets LOS first I will use. The S95 Pro has been out a lot longer and isn't a bad phone considering the newer ones from DooGee are not as nice. Anyhow either that or I will switch over and buy a Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G if LOS gets there. Both fronts are interesting. If I can get the GSI working without issues on the S95 Pro I will just use the S95 Pro but otherwise if not, I will have to sell it and switch brands.
I mean what's with DooGee and other manufacturers other than Samsung and Apple making a good phone and then the new models come out without some of the features I like. The new DooGee phone just has most of what the S95 Pro has, removed take the S97 Pro for example it's maybe a better phone, but the screen is still LCD not AMOLED and not 120Hz or anything. It's a rugged phone and I like that but I can't really use it because it's on Android 9 and not updated at all also no LOS on it which totally sucks. Why give a phone to a dev and have the dev port over LOS for the phones it would probably cost less than having HTC supply source anyway.
My two cents worth here. I don't have any android devs on staff that can do this kind of work anyway which sucks otherwise I would have it done.
Thanks

Another negative person.... you know everything i assume??? Do you have a source spying on the company im working for??? Dear Negative person. Now I am allowed to say that i already have in my hands an unpublished Pre-beta test Oreo version on my phone since i have a part i develop for the firmware in the country i live for. For a better and stable support for the mobile companies here and customize few things.
Dear negative person this forum was the beginning for many of us recognized or not developers to find a hobby that potentially could lead in a job. I am a good example my self. So i personally demand a bit of respect from users who are interested on customizing their mobile devices, but they do not have enough of knowledge or and experience. All these years (and that's my 3rd newest active account because i like to keep my developing clean so i can manage my requests) until i expand my knowledge i was reading and asking. Lots of questions, lots of annoyance towards other devs. I would suggest you to do the same if you are interested on developing so you will not have to wait for any Huawei to give you the experience you want on your device. Internet is a free exchange of ideas in the end of the day and that idea me and all of my generation fought so you will enjoy your right to share your opinions throughout the web.....but... Idea is not spreading inaccurate misinformation. Thats literally a crime and its punishable. I am telling you off for many reasons and because i am concerned especially with P9 since i am leading a dev project. P9 is an essential device with great characteristics that can compete all the devices in the market right now you like it or not, you admit it or not. Its underdeveloped yes. I agree! Like the rest of the mobile phones out there. The main reason is that you can not be a pioneer with the same speed as 15 years ago, since the technology moved fast and forward the last 15 years with no space for new ideas and pioneering. And then... financially crisis hits all over the world... Android is not an Iphone. Its not Apple. Android is FREE and once you have a free thing you have to pay for laws to be able to give it for free like the companies who dont give their operating systems for free. No android mobile company earns $$ from the operating system. Its is against the law to do it. All of the companies i worked in my past like Nokia, Sony, Google, etc etc are making their profits from the devices. in other words RETAIL SALES.
So now you can stop spreading your hate because you are disappointed from your device and rethink. Every action have a reaction. Thats the basic rule of engineering i learned in school. And its true that this law applies to real life.
Now back to the subject and to answer clearly your stupid comment so you will not mislead opinions.
You can not have Emui 8 without Oreo and vice versa. Its not just an APK based app. its a new customized framework which needs environment and code for Oreo to work. For an example you can not install Emui camera from any version to a google vanilla firmware and make it work without changing and codding things and support through kernel and OS the application. If the application needs Oreo based system simply it will crash and it will not work as it should. Thats all i have to say.
I hope you enjoy my way of talking.
PS: Its a phone and not a rocket yes? It does what they promised you it will do. Be glad and wait or move on to a "better supported device".
If you have demands of buying a new phone because the market is trying to grab more money out of your pockets by providing a new OS...then guess what.... you are a retail sales victim.
With love and respect

You can not call me an insider. I met through this forum many people and many devs who was working in much more famous mobile companies. Hell yes we even had official programmers for Microsoft, Sony, Samsung. XDA gave loads of knowledge to this industry. As for the beta test i will say Soon i assume the first version you could try in few weeks is the Chinese one since most of the complete parts are coming for porting and translating here. Which means whenever permissions will be allowed and made for public beta test. Unfortunately as for now is strictly for internal development purposes. I will repeat Its not "insiders". It is a part of our job to provide the best experience for our country. Finland is famous for many companies like Nokia (clearly Finnish company that creates from tires for cars, to space engineering technologies, lasers and back in time even mattresses ), Huawei EU departments (responsible for development and marketing around EU and passing to other companies for additional changes), Rovio (Angry birds ) etc etc and many other companies in general.
Time to rest a bit

Its is against the law to do it.
the companies i worked in my past like Nokia, Sony, Google, etc etc are making their profits from the devices. in other words RETAIL SALES.

So you're telling me there's a chance?
p.s. sorry couldn't resist
A Dutch source also confirmed the release of Oreo for the P9 and P9 plus. Release date yet unknown.

I hope this is true so my P9 will get it's last update.

Hi, and what about rollback from Oreo to Nougat? It would be logical if rollback will be released earlier than Oreo-beta ?you agree with me?

that isnt how it works. marshmalow, nuget, before was nuget beta, only after some time relased rollback package. thats why its not recomended to play with beta

Prey ahahaha
Nuh the beta goes for devs who know how to make an assessment, report etc etc. I wouldn't touch a beta if I wasn't sure of what I'm doing. Also its rare to release such files that will caused bootloop. Crashing yeap i get it very often but its too early to tell you anything more. With the files i have i dont get bootloop. There are issues with battery and overheating but thats all so far. But yeap to clarify... so far no issues of rolling back as well since I'm doing it daily

I'm not talking about myself, I can perfectly rebranding and flash any firmware, but nevertheless thanks for the answer, and ... welcome Oreo.
Cool stuff, i hope they take their time and release a bug free version. So glad i bought this device nearly two years ago and its still a very good smartphone that can even compete with more recent ones.
Mod Edit: Content Removed and thread closed. This thread served as an advertisement for a paid unlock service offered by another xda member. Since that violates rule 11 of xda's site rules, its not to be discussed here. Thanks!
This is a great long-awaited event! I hope for an open service for the global version.
Unlocked mine [happy] , thanks <mod snip> . Guys - go ahead !! Make our device the based SOC 835 device available in the market.
Well this is a great news.. Finally people will be able to use this phone to it's full extent..
Hope developers will also take interest in this device now.

great news, but to late on nokia 8 will no development growing.
I have to agree that it won't get that much dev work done. If at all.
Never buying a nokia again though. Instead of saving up a couple of dollars to get the specs it has, I'd rather spend a good amount on some other phone with more dev-community support.
Atleast minimum a custom recovery is required. Rest can be done by the common users !
Nokia is not for enthusiasts.
But there is no other SOC 835 based phone with almost vanilla Google ROM in that price range are available. This device is having enormous potential - but HMD global taken wrong decision !!! Bad luck for us.
I have nokia 8 chinese version (TA-1052).
How can I request unlock bootloader?
