I am thinking of moving from android to windows phone 7 and I have a few questions.
1)Is the gMap app available in Ireland and UK and can it do local search and navigate to it? Now I don't need turn by turn just a line that you can follow on a map and can track your movement
2) Which out the following devices you would think is best and why:- HTC Trophy, HTC Mozart, HTC 7 Pro or Lg Optimus 7
3) Can mango been install on these devices now unofficially or do I have to wait for official release.
4) Where would I find 3rd party apps?
Thanks in advance

1) gMap is apparently based on Google so it supports those countries I think. But it's really poor compared to Google Maps.
2) All of them are quite robust and reliable. I have Optimus 7 which has a great quality BUT after 7 months part of the screen became greyish - visible only on white. I guess LG is not the quality master...... Also Optimus has hardware keys.
All of the phones have good cameras in daylight and quite ****ty in dark, a WP7 trademark....
3) Yes you can have Mango now, many users have it here.
4) Marketplace
u won't regret the switch one bit to wp7
1) it should work and I think Bing works there as well.
2) I would go with a phone by HTC, I have the arrive (7 pro) and I love it.
3) yes the mango beta is released here and on just about any other forum site.
4) u can get then from the marketplace and if ur developer unlocked ($9 US) u can sideload apps.
ignore the ****ty picture quality being a wp7 trademark remark. I've seen poor quality from all OSes and my arrive takes good outdoor pictures

I think the picture quality is quite great. It might not compare very well to dedicated 10+ MP cameras, but these are phones, not dedicated cameras.

I know what you mean. I had an HD7 for a while until I moved to AT&T...before they get their HD7. I loved mine. A gorgeous phone and felt so good.
Thanks for the reply's.
I use google maps alot and from another forum I know that bing maps are not fully updated for some new roads (built 2-3 years ago) and has very few POI's for Ireland. This could be a deal breaker for me. Is nokia maps coming soon to WP7?

I was thinking of getting this phone. I can get this sim free for €275 ($400).
What is battery life like? Does screen move about when touching the screen when the keyboard is closed?

The quality of a camera in low light is directly related to the size of the lens, ANY camera with a lens the size of a sesame seed will suffer in low light situations. This is not specific to WP7.
I live in Sweden and Bing Maps isn't even supposed to work at all. But im navigating fine with it. For driving it updates to slow to be any good. So i installed a pay navigation app named Turn By Turn and it is just great.
Also, there are some Google apps in Marketplace that could replace Bing, but Bing is intergrated and have so far worked flawless.
All other questions everybody answerd. I my self use Omnia 7 16GB and very happy with it. Dont know about the other phones, but LG Optimus 7 have only one flaw, and it's the screen. The LG phone it aelf is great, but the screen is horrible compared to any phones out there. Here in Sweden you can buy a new LG, unlocked/carrier free for 1900 SEK. Should be around 200$ That's very cheep for a smartphone of this magnetude. But i wouldn't pay more ether because of the bad screen, wich is sad because native apps and other hardware parts is good.
Hope i didn't offend any LG users, its my and some close friends observations. 1 still bought it but everytime he looks at other screens he gets sad.
If you dont like SAMOLED like me, go for a HTC device. Seems also to be supporting there WP great.
Time have passed, so i wonder if not Dell Venue Pro could make for a good chooise. Thats the phone i wanted initally. But Venue Pro, Focus and Omnia 7 are SAMOLED / AMOLED devices.

While the things you both say are true, I wouldn't call the image quality I get from my Focus, even in brightly lit scenarios, to be anywhere close to good. It might be OK for resizing down images to post on Facebook, or for viewing on your phone, but for anything else the quality is almost useless. The images are excessively noisy and overly compressed, with almost no dynamic range at all. Even trying to manually adjust the settings to compensate makes virtually no difference. I've looked at quite a few full size photos taken with some of the "competition", and the difference is almost night and day.
I have high hopes for the cameras in the new Nokia phones, given the quality of glass they will be using, but that is only one factor. The physical sensor needs to be up to the task, as does the image processor that reads the raw values from it.
Obviously, it is silly to make broad generalizations like the "WP7 trademark" comment about camera quality, but what I can say for certain is that the quality in the Focus is far below what it could be, even for a phone camera.
So we've seen the hands-on videos, we've seen the specs and we've seen the release dates. We're psyched. We don't know yet if we need to choose one from the 2015 line-up or stick to what we have already/upgrade to a Moto X (2014).
It's time to discuss with fellow possessors of the Moto X line what Motorola did good in your opinion and what it did bad this year around with the Play and Style.
Personally I'm much more attracted to the Play rather than the Style but is the 615 processor much of a downgrade? It's tagged as a mid-spec phone but it's not in my eyes, and most of you can surely agree.
Camera quality has been addressed (hopefully).
Play has a whooping 3630 mah battery, so it feels like a midder-speced Droid Turbo. It even has the same weight (169 grams).
Higher screen size, higher screen to body ratio. Hopefully this won't me such a big issue as I believe Motorola made them STILL with the ergonomics in mind.
How will the build quality be? The Play version doesn't seem to resemble the X (2014) as much as the Style does in terms of aesthetics and build quality.
So...fellow citizens: Upsides, Downsides? Discuss.
I too am most interested in the Play but can't really put my finger on where the 615 stands.
I play a few, graphically not to high end games (Blek, Candy Crush,...) and have currently a Huawei P8.
If I knew the 615 performs good enough for daily stuff (maybe on par with the Nexus 5?) I'd definitely try it out...

I'm in the same boat as you. I feel the 615 should be more than enough as far as performance goes for running the browser, Google Inbox, etc. I'm not much of a mobile gamer, only really play some of the lighter games included in the last few humble bundles such as Ridiculous Fishing and Threes!.
I'm waiting on some early reviews to come in, but I really do hope that this will be the perfect phone for our use cases.
same here ... not worried about the SD 615 tho but more about build quality since i love my moto X and it's amoled display, i can live without amoled but not without a decent build quality..
the battery and the camera are huge improvents for sure that's why i'm thinking of buying one X Play ^^
I'm fairly sure the Verizon version (Turbo 2 name has already been registered) will be the one to get. It will likely be like the Play, but better cpu, wireless charging, likely qhd screen.
Only downsides are it will be a Verizon exclusive, and no unlocked bootloader.
I was reading somewhere that Motorola might want to make the X Play as the EU "version" of Droid Turbo.
lol
I will get the Moto X Play when released looks very decent! Would have been better if it had Wifi AC (Just installed a Netgear R7000 at home) but it will suffice for my needs. Will sell my Galaxy S6 before purchase. Have been looking towards chinaphones as well LEtv Le 1, Meizu Mx5 and the newly announced Sony M5 also still can't make a definitive decision can anyone help/point me in a good direction.
I mainly use the rear cam would love decent low light pics, browsing, feedly, youtube and some gaming, with minimal call and whatsapp.

You're selling your S6 to get a Motorola? I feel like that might be a downgrade...
Why?

And best of all no shizwiz, jokes apart i had a Moto G gen 1 (2y ago) and really liked it, with a stock mid range system the experience is smoother, unlike the top end hardware of the S6 that works so hard and feels sluggish
That's what 99% of the manufactorers don't get and stick to there UIs, which are all much to heavy on the hardware...
I need a new phone for my girlfriend. She had a moto g 2013, and I want to buy the moto x play..but..in Spain it costs 395 euros. I think it´s a little expensive for a midrange. So i´m considering the new xiaomi redmi note 2 with the mediatek helio x10 and only 140 euros, what do you think guys? I don´t know what to do.
What about the new moto g?

thanx:good:
The two things the play has that i like over the style are the 1080p screen and much larger battery . Those 2 combined will probably kill the style on battery life.
Dont like:
Smaller screen
No dual speakers mono only
Its not as visually appealing
Mid range processor
2gb only of ram
The small screen and lack of stereo speakers are deal breakers for me. The other stuff i could probably live with.

thanks for that! for my scenarios, the SD615 will do just fine (web browsing, social media, taking photos/editing, call/sms). can't wait for it to arrive, just (pre)ordered it yesterday on a german site
What I really find puzzling is the LCD screen. Why throw away the advantage of amoled in handling the active display? If it turns out to be well thought about (e.g. a mode in which the screen only turns on upon sensor activity instead of being continuously lit to display notifications) I'll be buying the play.
Hey guys im looking to buy a new phone but not having a large amout of money to spend im looking for something cheaper so i found the LG G flex 2 for about 200 eur new not 2nd hand and i was wondering if its any good does it lag.I saw that it is packing the snapdragon 810 with adreno 430 so it must be pretty smooth and im wondering if i should buy the g flex 2 or the lg g4.Difference is 100 eur but if performance is good im ok with it not bothered by the better camera and display.
The display is a bit grainy at low brightness (because of the p-oled), the camera is ok, but no raw or manual controls from stock camera app, the performance for me is spot on, i play 2 hours / day of vainglory and there is no lag or heating. The major disappointment is the locked bootloader wich translate to 0 development. The phone has 6.0.1 Marshmallow but i think this will be the last update for this phone. If you are ok with the curent software buy it. I never had an issue with this phone and for 200 euro its really a steal.
Well im coming from an S3 Neo im looking for great performance in games ok camera and yeah i agree it is a steal i can buy it for 200 eur and other phones even for 400 like the Galaxy a7 and alpha pack lesser specs. And the other phones with snapdragon 810 are sony z3+ and oneplus 2 and their price is 100-150 more.So i think i will buy it
Personally, If you can find a G4 at a similar price, (not that I think you can,) I'd go for that. On the H955, the 2GB Ram is a little low and the camera refuses to focus correctly in low light, (Compared to my G2.)
What ever you do, don't be tempted by the H950 which has 3GB Ram. Getting that thing updated is a total nightmare and you pretty much have to be on US soil with a US AT&T sim card. :crying:
If I was buying a new phone today, I'd probably pay the extra for the Nexus 6P.
i think g4 would be a better choice.
the g flex 2 performance isn't constant.
i mean its blazing fast at normal temperature but when it heats up (rarely happens) then it starts lagging alot (leaving the phone for 5 to 10 minutes is enough to cool it down). and also 0 development thanks to evil locked bootloader.
still 200 for such a powerful eye catching design phone isn't bad either.
if u r not a heavy gamer then this is best phone for 200.
the p-oled display is good for media consumption.
i am not a heavy gamer so i am very satisfied with my flex 2.
do not buy this phone if u r a really heavy gamer or if u want a good camera.
atleast my flex 2 isn't good at these two things.
Well my H955 is pushing 1 year of tinkering mods and tweaking and here are some pros and cons:
-Superb P-OLED display( I just like it more than the G4 display, especially in Vivid mode)
-its a gaming beast with proper tweaks( probaina thermal config file)
-Camera is brilliant in excellent and good quality conditions, but becomes way worse at night or in low light
-Battery life is average or even below on 5.1.1 but becomes good on MM(4-5 h SOT)
-Lack of development
-Lack of regular updates
-Although on MM the phone is blazing fast in UI,gaming is horrible due to heavy throttling to the point that almost any 3d game becomes unplayable.
Bottom line,I think this is a great phone to have, cheap too,and it could be heavenly with root on MM and maybe Cyanogenmod.
And yes,the phones can heat up really bad,but not at all times.I noticed that ot stays just slightly warm when playing Asphalt 8 on max settings but it overheats a lot in games like Subway Surfers and Angry birds 2( soo strange isnt it?)
I wouldnt recommend it..
U can try xiaomi /Huawei etc ... Xiaomi redmi note series..honor 8 or honor 5x..
Maybe add more to buy nexus 6p or nexus 5x..
This phone is total crap without bl unlock..

thanks
Stay away you better off getting the zte zmax pro for 100 $ and save 100. The screen is not that great and battery life is poor . The screen doesn't last long i had the phone replaced 3x times before i said enough with the phone. It was a opportunity missed for lg. They should of kept it at 6inches and used the g4 camera in it. This phone left a bad impression on me with lg
Sent from my SM-N920P using XDA-Developers mobile app
If LG would provide for regular security updates I would recommend this phone. Sadly, they do not. Officially this phone is still stuck at Lollipop with a security patch level of 01/2016. You can manually flash MM to bump the security patch level to 05/2016, but it's still outdated.
Other than that the phone is great. I think LG already abandoned the Flex 2.
Unfortunately its not worth it. Display is grainy, some models have yellow marks, battery is pretty weak too, only 2h max SoT i managed to do,but some reported much more. But it has no lag,it doesnt overheat and performance is very good. If you buy 16GB model,be aware that only around 8 gigs or so are available,i dont have games installed but still only around 2 gigs free (yes, you can install on SD card, but after each update it goes againto internal and not every app supports it). Also big drawback are updates, flagship model of 2015 and we received MM after 3/4 year delay, with old security patch and since then nothing, worth to mention that not every GF2 was updated. So if you dont mind these things then go for it,its still dope phone tho.
No, we still do not have any "official" MM. Just a developer version that LG seems to tolerate. Again, this might be a sign they are not working on a final version anymore.
Don't buy it and if you decide to buy check if its refurbished first.
Say "cheese", then rate this thread to express how photos taken with the Moto G5 Plus come out. A higher rating indicates that photos offer rich color (without over-saturating), sharp detail (with all subjects in-focus), and appropriate exposure (with even lighting).
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
More of marketing gimmick. Good hardware but worst software. Chinese developers don't know how to code. Lenovo killed the Moto brand

Camera is the main highly of the phone. ?
What are you talking about? I'm writing this from my Moto G5 plus. Just because you disagree with me it doesn't mean that I'm not allowed to post here. In my opinion the camera is nothing special, even my old galaxy s4 and Lumia 730 are able to get some better snaps in good lighting conditions.

Low light is bad compared to 2016 flagships. I just tested with my S7 and it kills the G5 Plus. If camera is most important to you, I recommend getting a used S7 for about the same price. Good lighting is fine.
I really like the G5 plus camera, compared to my old phones (Xperia z3 compact, moto g4 plus, nexus 4 and others) I think it's a really good camera for its price range. And I don't even tried to unlock the boot loader and use the hdr+ Google camera, thats looks even better on snaps.
The camera is okay. I take lots of pictures with it, they look fine.
When I really care about the picture looking nice, if I'm with other people, if those people have a modern flagship phone, I'll ask them to take the picture. And those pictures look significantly better.
Google's hdr+ really helps in low light too. Stock rom, using the 32-bit apk found in a thread here with camera2 API enabled via build.prop.
This is more light than I could see with my own eyes, alley building lights in the distance only. Forget S7, this rivals low light on my $2500 Sony A7s!

Ebay, Craigslist, and Swappa if you're in the USA.
Coming from moto e 1st gen which i bought for Rs 7000 in 2014. This phone has a pretty good camera at this price point considering that i bought it for Rs 10000. And i love the professional mode in this camera. You just have to know how to use the camera for good shots. It would be great to have Raw support in stock camera. But i love it.
Some samples.
I personally think moto did an awful work with this camera, even my 2015 nexus 5 beats it anytime its pitted against it.

Actually im waiting for moto to provide oreo stock ota. hopefully they will also release stable 64bit sources also as oreo only support 32 bit kernel sources as of now. If not i gues that is the final choice i have. Untill that I'm struck on good ol nexus 5. low light images on nexus 5 are just sweet despite having f2.4 camera.

Any of you tried the new cam update on the G5Plus? I think it's great! I have the S7 edge and took pictures with both phones of the same thing. Then as they uploaded to Google photos, I had a hard time distinguish which is which without looking at the info. Moto G5Plus in low light. Ignore the mess, I'm before moving. I did not selectively focused just point and shoot. Look at the sharpness on the books and the glass bunny. These pics were made near midnight with only floor lamps farther away.
Glad they've been improving the stock shooter! I noticed an update, but for some reason the new app is having trouble with video recording so I might go back. Google Camera running on here has been blowing everything else out of the water, but those shots are very respectable.
Just received my oppo find X2 pro this morning from EE.
Brilliant phone!
I recently had the Samsung S20 ultra (exynos) and wow this is miles better ? 12gb ram 512gb storage what a beast?.
I did think it was a dual SIM phone unpon ordering even tho I don't use 2 Sims it seems weird how they removed this feature.
Disappointing not dual SIM.
Lovely piece of kit almost as good as Huawei p40 pro.

That's strange, Find X2 Pro is overall praised for its excellent color reproduction. Detail is also top tier, actually even beating P40 Pro by a very slight margin (in ideal lighting conditions).
My advice is: don't return it. ColorOS 7.2 is about to come (I'd give it 2-3 months before it reaches us) and, among other nice improvements, it releases Oppo Camera SDK allowing other apps (such as Snapchat, Instagram, gcam) use all its lenses.
So if you're willing to wait with maybe a little bit less top-tier camera (perfectly top-tier and well-rounded in my opinion though) by then, you will get a very capable gcam rather soon.
Nah, I will return it. If 7.2 improves it enough I will buy it again at a reduced price
Welcome to England where you can buy things use them and again use them, then you feel disappointed and sen it back, then after couple of days you buy it again but this time cheaper
The phone is good stop whining
I've had the S20 ultra and the iPhone 11 pro and p40 pro this year and I'm impressed with the camera on this phone compared to them and I'm not saying there crap as there all good shooters and there's many strengths and weaknesses in all of them, I think it's very similar to the p40 pro but I prefere the colour this phone produces rather than the p40 pro as the p40 seems over saturated a lot of the time to me where this phone seems more life like.
It's a brilliant phone and I will certainly be upgrading to the next oppo find x next year regardless to what apple and Samsung, Huawei, Google bring out in the future.
Holding this phone compared to anything else, you get to realise how premium this phone is.

The phone is good. But for £1100 I expect more than just good. My 18m mate 20 pro is better in every way except refresh rate and processor. Gone back to that and haven’t looked back
Wouldn't have another SoC other than Snapdragon hence why I didn't get a Samsung or Huawei, Kirin & Exynos will forever be inferior
Out of interest, what firmware version is the EE supplied handsets running?
My SIM free from Amazon is currently at CPH2025CPW_11_A.30
It has CPW in the name which is not showing in the name of the version on their website. ROM versions get a bit confusing! I think Vodafone is VF but not sure if EE has its own version.
Also whilst I remember, if you are in a 5G area, does it work OK and show 5G in the top? I've got 5G enabled but when I do a manual search for providers it doesn't show anyone with 5G but I know the local 3 mast is 5G! I thought that would be in the list
Cheers
