Radio randomly starts scanning frequencies - MTCD Android Head Units Q&A

Hi Everyone,
Some times (I think when in a poor reception area), the radio will randomly start scanning/searching the frequencies.
Has anyone else found this?
Is there a solution?

turn off AF option . It stands for Alternate Frequency, when on if station signal gets weak it then tries to find another station with same broadcast.

network sundenly going off many tiles a day

Hi,
Many times a day network goes off for no reason.
I have to turn it OFF/ON or choose select network.
It is not a network problem because I have another phone on the same operator that do not have this problem.
Thanks in advance.
Saadi
I'm so haaappy to hear this from somebody else on this planet !!! (Thought I got mad)
Exactly the same problem, but only when in ROAMING.
The network goes off several times the day and the only option is to turn off and on the phone.
Another problem connected with Roaming mode is that when dialing a number, there is one dialing tone + second dialing tone (immediately after the first one, but its faster than a normal repeating one), which is extremely loud so that I get ear pains.
What to do guys?
I was talking to the PalmOne support using my support-ticket you can get with registration but he didn't hear about that and couldn't help me.
...that's so much pitty as I love the device
Try changing the 3g band to gsm under settings/phone/service/band selection that might help
Hi,
I tried to limite to UMTS but it did not work, passed it to automatique still did not work. Will try GSM.
I have noticed that I am having this problem only at work and home where I have a wifi router near by.
Could the wifi affect reception?

Shouldn't be possible as Wi-Fi is completely different radio band and there is technically no Wi-Fi corresponding element inside the Treo. But as I think this might be a bug (firmware?) why does so few people have this problem...
It is weared, I only have this problem at work and at home.
So they must be something that affect reception.
The only thing i can notice is the presence of wifi routers.
smmonla - have you got any news about this problem?
I tried to hard-reset, to change all the bands etc. but nothing helps.
There are no problems with my new Excalibur which is also very sexy, but still I want the Treo
Hi,
Still having the same problem.
As I have read, we are not the only ones having this problem.
I also like my treo a lot.
Hope palm has a fix for this problem soon.
have a look at here. It isn't a very hot news and doesn't really help me, but still:
http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=250101&st=
I have noticed that when I limit the band to GSM, I do not have the problem anymore.
Could it be an OS problem?
And now we are on the subject of 2G versus 3G, there is at least one advantage with the S620 not being a 3G mobile. You are free from the potential problem that some 3G Smartphones become “confused” regarding the continuous switch between 2G and 3G radio masts. A 3G Smartphone sometimes loses the connection to the network completely, even though it looks like you are “on”. Numerous Qtek 9000/HTC MTeoR/HTC TyTN owners have experienced this problem because some mobile operators have not optimised their networks for these types of models. These problems should be on the decline, partly because of software updates from HTC and partly because of mobile operators beginning to solve their network problems.

GSM Signal Receiption Issue

Just wanted to ask, if anyone else has had problems with their Polaris not receiving GSM signals ?
I have a HTC TC and it shows weak signal reception in an area where I know there is full signal strength available (tested it with couple of other mobile phones and they all showed "full signal strength" = 5 "signal strength bars").
Is the TC known to be "weak" when it comes to receiving GSM signals (which I would find hard to believe) ?
Regards,
Andreas
EDIT: The TC has started to not respond to the "ON" button at times, have to to a reset in order to get it to "wake up" again. Looks like I got a dud ...
Just wondering ... is there a trend becoming visible here ?
New phone, less reception ?
Cheers,
Andreas
It may be sensible to add comments as to how much improved or how much worse the receiption is ...
As I already stated, I basically am no longer able to reliably make calls on my mobile phone because the TC gets such bad reception
How about your experience ? Are you getting "bad" sound (noise, crackling etc.) or drop outs ?
Or is the quality of the connection OK, but you are not getting a signal to actually make calls ?
Cheers,
Andreas

No, my reception was poor from the "get go" ...
I did hard spl and loaded some other ROM to test, but it did not get any better ...

By your signature I see that you've upgraded to a Bepe rom and upgraded your radio. Please check this thread:

You've updated your Radio, now you're screwed
Hi:
I'm using the 1.64.08.21 radio with Bepe .067 Premium rom and the system is doing ok with the exception that because I do not have 3G yet in my area, I have a hard time connecting to AT&T and it take a long time. When I travel to a 3G area, the phone smokes.

Darn ... sorry ... forgot to update my signature
I currently have a TC with the original ROMs.
But from what I see so far, nearly 45% report a reception that is worse than with their old phones. Not good, is it ?

Mhhmmmm .... may be a baseband/hardware problem...
For example, I live in Colombia (south America) and I've a HTC Sensation 4G (T-Mobile) and my signal is 2G/EDGE always, because the HSPA/3G band in this phone is not supported in my country
Isn't supported, why? I don't know... What I know is this problem is a hardware issue (search in another threads) and for the moment there aren't solution.
-----------
MAYBE the 3G frequencies of your phone isn't supported in your zone/area

Hi,
Try this:
Take off the back cover.
At the bottom of the phone there are 2 gold pins.
These are your phone radio connectors.
Lift them GENTLY up,so that they make a better connection to the back cover.

Have you tried selecting gsm/wcdma auto in the network menu? You haven't made it clear whether you've tried this. Your settings may be stuck on gsm only.

Sometimes WCDMA Preferred is a good setting. Then it'll try for 4g and default to lower speeds if the network isnt available

tried *#*#4636#*#* , still no go
but if i tried to turn off radio from here, exit, and dial this command again, my network is on CDMA/LTE auto
it's so strange
________________________________________________________________________________
update : i also noticed that my phone don't have any gps reception too
so strange, i just put my phone in airplane mode in car dashboard and driving for about 8 hours nonstop and this problem occured

No automatic 2G to 3G switch

I'm using the Nexus 5 with Vodafone Germany, without an LTE option.
I usually have excellent 3G reception, but when that's not the case, the phone correctly falls back to 'G', but unfortunately stays there even if the reception is good again.
No matter what I do, the phone doesn't want to switch back to high speed again. The only workaround here is to force WCDMA only.
Currently running 4.4.4 with the latest baseband, but I already tried nearly all available modem firmwares, to no success.
Any ideas?
Not a fix but try putting in ✈ mode then back

If it would be that easy ;(
WCDMA preffered is in this list, but has no effect. In fact, this setting does't get applied and it switches to GSM Auto (PRL).
I could choose WCDMA only, but then it has no fallback to GSM, if highspeed covered is not suffcient.
I know this isn't the ideal solution, but for now if it's that bad I would use tasker and have it force it after a period of time spent in g.

Interesting idea, but set Tasker to what?
WDCMA only won't work as it wouldn't switch back to GPRS. And by setting it to 2g/3g it would still remain on 2g ...
Hmm. I haven't done the if statements in a long time, but something along the lines of if signal equals g then switch to 3g only for a minute then have it recheck signal if there's no 3g then go back to wcdma preferred for 30 minutes before recheck?

But when Tasker tries for 3G, it would drop the connection. Not good when you're in a call ....
I'd rather prefer a working solution out of the box. I mean, Vodafone Germany is not a small carrier by all means, and Nexus 5 is a widespread phone. So there should be quite some more people with this problem. I know exactly one, with exactly the same problem.
I read about some similar problems where people exchanged phone or simcard, but to no success. Really bothering me ....

Sticky or Slow WiFi issue...?

Hi Guys,
My return to HTC from the Rezound days to the U11 have been less than smooth, it seems. First I have the strange SD card corrupt issue... And now I've got this "sticky" WiFi issue...
Let me try to explain:
So, I'm on Stock phone, straight set up as I got it from Amazon. My Internet bandwidth speed tests around 250mbps on an average. And the speeds remain the same when I experience the issue. Essentially what happens is that randomly my internet starts to "stick" meaning, I'd click on a link, it'll take forever and a half and then the page loads out of nowhere. Similarly, I'd be syncing files to Google Drive and my file upload or download starts crawling ?...
The fix: Toggle WiFi on and off and starts flying again! I haven't noticed the issue while on data (I think)...
I have optimizations off for WiFi. WiFi stays fast on other devices... So I'm not sure what's going on? Anyone else experiencing this?
Thanks!
Haven't experienced it for now on 11.
WiFi was something "messy" on my 10, but all good so far on 11.
Might be some router compatibility issues, from top of my head and without first morning coffee see if it happens on both 2.4 and 5 ghz frequencies and if you can disable ipv6 on your router..

hi. i have the exact same problem as you but only on the 5ghz band. no option to select just 2.4 GHz band is a letdown. i use a virgin media hub 3.0 CH7465, ipv6 in stateless mode. had to disable 5ghz band from router to use the phone on wifi. no issues with mobile data. another issue, unrelated, is the vibration feedback on key press every now and again.

Thanks for reporting and sharing, friend... I'm wondering why more people aren't seeing this or we just got a bad unit? Hopefully HTC finds out and does something about it... ?
Hello !
I am Naphtaline, owning a Sony Xperia XZ Premium and we are experiencing some of your issues there too.
It looks-like the problem could be related to Snapdragon 835 or Android Nougat but we can't be sure yet.
While our problem are not always exactly the same as you, we can say that it could be possible that there are Wifi issues on every snapdragon 835 based device yet on the market.
So, I made a survey to help us understanding this problem. We could then send the results to our brands to help them resolve it.
Please share this link to every people you know owning a flagship device, even if they don't experience the issue. This is very important !
If there are moderators here, if you could make a pinned topic about this survey, this would be marvelous !
https://goo.gl/forms/xePus2lCrjrBjk9b2
Thank you !
this issue is hard to replicate, I tried doing 20 or so speed tests yesterday trying to get it to fail but wouldn't...I know in the past when the issue was present, I switched to 2.4 with no change...I don't have this issue on most routers, only my home router (TP-Link Archer C7) but there again, the issue is so intermittent that it's possible it could happen on other routers but just not noticing.
Pretty sure I've been having this issue since day 1, but I'm trying to tell myself it's just my router, which it's not, as it happens on any wifi network. Also, phone suddenly decided to drop my Verizon signal, and now it won't reconnect. HTC has no fixes for either issue, and Verizon says it's HTC's fault for the signal. Definitely my last HTC phone.
With 5Ghz, if i go to a room little far from where the router is, it would not work but the Speedtest would show amazing speed. Whereas the 2.4Ghz works fine in that room.
FWIW guys the dropped connection effect is happening on my 2.4 SSID as well... Only, momentary fix is toggling off and on.... Have any of you tried a replacement? Maybe we got flawed units?
I am also experiencing this issue and it's driving me nuts! The quick fix is to toggle WiFi on/off, but I shouldn't have to do that.
I have the Xfinity XB3 router, but I do not think it's the router because I also have an S7 Edge where I am not experiencing this issue. I'm going to try using the 2.4 SSID, but from what I've read in this thread so far, it does not sound like that's going to help.
I too am experiencing this issue on the 5Ghz channel of my router. It seems to work initially, but only after a few minutes, it starts to have connection issues. When I switch to the 2.4 Ghz channel, it works just fine, always, no connection issues whatsoever. I just did the survey. Thanks for compiling this, I hope a fix is determined. I have the US Unlocked version, Viper U11 1.3.0 w/ Magisk v12 and module v1.10.1.
The problem is wifi drop-off. Even though the device is showing a good signal the data throughput is weak. If you move closer to the router the wifi will jump back into life. Its due to not having an iso standard for signal strength displays.

Same here..
For me it happens only with my home router networks (Linksys WRT1900ACS).
I found that this drop issue only happens when I'm far from my router when the signal is below -65dBm and only if the 5GHz network is on 80MHz-bandwidth and 2.4GHz is on 40MHz-bandwidth.
Lowering to 40MHz for 5GHz and 20MHz for 2.4GHz solves this problem completely for me.
Two important notes:
1) This behavior only happens with the U11. With other devices like the G6, iPhone 6s and etc. everything works fine at the same time when my wifi networks are on 5GHz 80MHz and 2.4GHz 40MHz.
2) On other 2.4GHz 40MHz-bandwidth networks that I've connected (other than my home's) I don't experience this drops at all with the U11, even when I'm very far away from the router and the signal is very weak.
So this problem seems to be only between the U11 and some routers on some configurations. Very strange
