Slippy or Grippy - Sony Xperia XZ Questions & Answers

How is the feel in hand with this device? Is it slippery or does it have some grip?
Thanks!

Less slippy than the Z5 which was my last phone, but slippy enough, especially with cold hands.

it feels amazing man same time you won't lost the grip and also the palm of your hands won't hurt you with the old hard edges

I would say grippy...

I would also say grippy :silly:
Because of the rouded sides, you have a lot of contact, making it harder to slip out of your hands.
Basic physics, bigger surface, higher friction :victory:

Feels nice. Definitely less slippy than the Z3 and the Note 7.

nu chiar basic...

Xz is grippy
The z3 though, is as slippery as an eel. Slides off table tops all the before I gof a case for it.

I have the SCTF10 case so it's real grippy.

LOL you failed basic physics. Frictional force is not dependent on surface area, but rather the frictional coefficient (usually how rough the surface is) and the normal force (how strongly you grip the phone).

XZ can be very slippery especially with wet hands, as any other phone would be. It is more slippery compared to my previous LG G3 ( it had curved back cover so it was more ergonomically designed ) still i think XZ is way better and the feel of aluminium in the back is great.

TPU + Hard Cover cases from China...good

I tend to prefer cases that have TPU on the sides and a hard cover for the rear. I also like cases that are sleek, especially in terms of how much material is around the screen. I dont like a ridge that is too high as it gets in the way of operating the screen.
I picked up this case from ebay:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/370678126009?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
For a "cheaper" case I am very impressed. Fit is snug and the all the openings line up perfectly. Only time will tell if the TPU sides will stretch over time and the phone gets loose but so far so good. The TPU is smooth and too "grippy" which I like. My only gripe is that the power and volume buttons lack any sort of feedback so its difficult to know that I am pressing the buttons. These buttons are also not that pronounced so its not easy to just feel for it.
Overall, I am very happy with this case regardless of the price.
Link is no good.
The buttons are not easy to press without a case and some cases make it easier some cases make it harder. I think a great bonus in a good case is making those frequently used buttons easier to find and press.
I have had my eyes on a very similar version to that case, but I'm not 100% it would fit the AT&T Version of the HTC One X.

I also have a nice cheapo tpu on mine which I prefer over my other otterbox (because of its size). I put a little duct tape on the inside of the power button and it works much better and easier.

If you are referring to the case I referenced then yes. The back of the case if hard plastic. The camera is recessed a bit behind the plastic.

i have that same cover and the same complaint as u, also the speaker opening blocks the third row of the loud speaker openings, but sounds normally though.. its a really nice cover and every opening is exact to every port is accessible and i love the extension on the camera area, protects the lens

I purchased this case.
I liked the way it looks, and i like the material composition.
I did not like how difficult it was to press the buttons down with the tpu.
but the thing that made me, ultimately, stop using this case was how smooth and slippery the matte plastic case was. it made it slide on all surfaces. it wouldnt stay on any slanted material(chair, laptop, car hood, and bed). it was very easy to drop, and wouldnt stay in my lap.
I just went back to my smoked tpu case, which has good button feedback and is just grippy enough, yet smooth enough to slide in adn out of pockets
For around $10 why not just pick up a diztronic case that's designed for the XL? Ebay cases are sometimes a mixed bag, if you go with a decent name at least you have some quality to expect. Even more so when the price point is similar.

Reviews on 5 cases I use

My Nexus 4 case review.
I'm going to do a little case review for all my N4 cases: Official bumper; Mercury TPU case; XDA-developers TPU case, Meifeng Hard skin cover, and Ringke Fusion Premium Hybrid Hard Case.
Let's get started, hopefully this could help you guys when choosing cases.
Official bumper: The most expensive case I've owned, and it is not worth it. The look is cool, no doubt about it, however, it feels terrible in hand. It's like wearing a bad condom, which makes the whole experience weird. The protection it gives is limited.
Overall score: 5/10
Mercury TPU case: A solid case with good protection. Feels pretty good in hand, however, it attracts finger prints. A mediocre case, nothing special about it.
Overall score: 6.5/10
Xda TPU case: I got this case to show my support for the XDA community. I got it for about $12, took them about a month to ship it to me. As you can see, it looks awesome, dose not attract finger prints. The quality is a little iffy, since its hand made.
Overall score: 7/10
Ringke Fusion Premium Hybrid Hard Case: My second favorite case. The best part about it is that the back is see-through, great way to show off the beautiful design with good protection. Some say the buttons are hard to push, but that's not the case in mine, the responses I get is great. The only thing I don't like is the small head phone hole, I have to take the case off when I listen to my music. I dose fit the regular head phone cable, mine is a little bigger.
Overall score: 8.5/10
Meifeng Hard skin cover: My favorite among all. It is the slimmest case I own, which makes the holding experience awesome. The materiel it uses has a matte like feeling, makes it easy to hold. The only downside is that the protection it offers is not that great, it only covers the back and the side of the phone while leaves top and bottom of the front unprotected.
Overall score: 9/10
That's it! Hope you guys enjoyed!

Useless without pics.
More pics of the Meifeng please.
I would like to compare it to the Poetic Palette. They appear to be the same, but a YouTube review (more like overview) dropped the Meifeng case by itself into the ground and it sounds like it might be even flimsier/thinner than the Palette. I just want minimal scratch protection but I don't like actual skins/films, so the Meifeng might work for me.

The Meifeng is a slim case like the Poetic Palette but has great grip and feel to it - almost a sandpaper feel but again minimum protection.

I have the Palette and Meifeng. The palette is thicker/sturdier and offers much better top/bottom protection because the edges of the case come closer to the front of the phone. The matt material is also really nice...imo nicer than the meifeng.
However, because it's thicker it doesn't feel as good in the hand as the Meifeng and it also has smaller button holes. So as long as you're ok with a little less protection, the Meifeng is the way to go.
There are a few pics of the Meifeng on the link in my sig.

So initially I didn't like that case (Rearth Slim). But after switching between 6-7 cases I'm using it as my primary case. Imo, it feels the best in the hand. However, I had to use a blade to shave the manufacturing mold lines down. Before I did that the edges of the case were terrible. After that the feeling improved dramatically.
Also gives best corner and front protection of any slim case I've seen.
So short answer... yes, good decision.

Just got my Meifeng (the new black one :eyeroll: ). I wish I had gotten to see it before purchasing.
Differences
Size
Calipers show that the Meifeng is 0.07(±<0.02) mm thinner than the Palette (its semiporous texture is slightly squishy so it varies ~0.02 mm), so the thickness is pretty much identical.
Texture
The Palette is quite slick, but not glossy. It's more like satin than lacquer. The Meifeng is weirdly rough. It's like a soft sandpaper. It's not really a preference, as it would be easy to acclimate to either.
Cutouts
I always thought the Palette cut-outs were too small, but that might have been a conscious decision. The small bridge on the top face of the volume buttons is very thin.
Prospective Durability
Both look very durable, and you would probably break the screen before you broke the case. That being said, they aren't meant for rough usage. As I mentioned about the cutouts, the volume cutout bridge appears more likely to break on the Meifeng.
Other
The Palette is far easier to fit and remove. I hate using a case, and only use my Palette when I'm out and about (I also have a Poetic Slim Book for business) and I'm constantly switching between encased and caseless. I'll put the Meifeng in a drawer and leave it in case my Palette breaks.
EDIT: After a few days with the Meifeng, I honestly do like it more than the Palette. The Poetic case is great, don't get me wrong, but I really liked the larger cutouts of the Meifeng, as well as the rougher texture.

Just got N4 couple weeks ago and im leaning towards this ^ case. My only concerns are:
1. Is the upper right corner bare and the case is cut from there or is it just to show the layer of the case.
2. How flexible and fall resistant the the see through glass on the back is? Does it attract alot of dust?
Thanks.

It's to show the layer. If you look through xda or even searching the case you'll find pictures and videos of what it looks like.
The back isn't glass it's just plastic. No it doesn't attract dust but does attract fingerprints.

Its covered don't worry. The materiel is pretty flexible, because its just plastic. Its ok with the dust, but attracts finger prints and it scratches easy.

Body Glove "Satin Series"

I just bought this case, and I didn't see an existing thread, so I thought I'd make one with some pictures. Because I really like it! I use it while I'm at work, because it's very sturdy and protective but not very bulky.
It's a super snug fit, easy to remove and apply, but doesn't at all peel off or lift accidentally like some other Diztronic cases and the like.
Anyway here's some pics, happy to answer questions or take more pictures!
(Sorry I have no second device to photograph while my phone is inside the case. Check back in a few hours.)
Amazon US: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ON74WVO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Dang, with the serious lack of cases I thought SOMEONE would be interested.
I've been curious about this case for awhile. I've been using a hula bumper but I'm not sure about the level of protection offered. Also I'd rather not have to keep it in an otterbox unless the situation calls for it.
Questions: have you dropped it? If so, results? If you haven't, how confident in dropping it does the case make you feel?
How's it feel in hand? Those sharp corners are a little off-putting.
Thanks!

I haven't dropped it but I'm quite confident as its sturdy, but not hard material.
Clarify what you mean by sharp corners? It feels great. The texture on the back feels good and helps with grip. It's not too thick but it's by no means thin. The back is curved slightly to match the natural feeling of the X. Nothing feels sharp, it's rounded on every edge.
Looks good

Case as thin as Peel (Iphone only) for the Note 7

Hi,
I am on the hunt for a premium case that is not edgy and super thin for the Note.
If you have ever seen Peel its like that.
Anyone?
I Just pulled the trigger on the cali case
We shall see.
I am using a slick wraps natrual leather skin right now and honestly, for the first time I dont think these work with the Notes sharp curve off. Its sad but on the S7 Edge it was perfection. Just a bit too on the side rather than fully down turned on the note. Kind of ruins the feel.
And yes I burndished the crap out of all edge prior.

I got the calicase. Very very thin. Not the most attractive plastic and a bit slippery but adds hardly any weight or thickness to the device. Also doesn't show fingerprints which is what drives me mad with the clear cases.

Using the Choe now. I like it but all clear TPU cases look so cheap to me. If you are going clear TPU though, this is the one. Its much thinner than most.
I really just want a leather case (non wallet) that is super thin. They just don't seem to exist.
Edit: The CaliCase ultra thin does seem to be the equivalent of what OP mentioned the Peel to be to iPhone. Here is the product link:
https://amzn.com/B01J4629FY
and the more i read over all the "thinnest case" threads, I think this is the case that takes the cake. Below was my recommendation for a nice thin case with minimal protection that also has a great texture, but this CaliCase is a full protection case.
/
Bear Motion case is incredible and has a very awesome micro grip texture. I don't know how else to say it but I really recommend giving this case a try. it will not protect the front screen and I prefer a screen protector to do that. it is minimal coverage and very slim, feels great in my medium sized hands.

I have the calicase. It is VERY thin, and has a good feel to it. The two downsides I see so far are it offers little to no protection from drops, and it isn't clear. It is a cloudy clear, and doesn't show the dbrand skin I have.

It's kinda weird, the sides and back are smooth for sure. The sides are grippy, kinda a soft rubber feel. The back has ridges that are plenty grippy in the hand, but slides a little bit on a hard flat surface.

The back has ripples so grippy in hand but not grippy on uneven flat surfaces. The sides are smooth but grippy. It conforms to the curvy screen and adds a comfortable amount of width to the phone making it better to hold.
