i am from India. My friend is going to gift me samsung galaxy s3 (unfortuantely and probably its t-mobile) from United States. i've no idea whether they are CDMA or GSM carrier. if its CDMA so my questions are :
can i get an unlock code which allows me access any gsm networks in India.?
And if it is GSM one, can i access 3g networks in India.?
i have read in a random forum that if its gsm carrier i can only use EDGE service in India.
AND the last one-
should i update official ics stock rom firmware for INDIA OR for The USA?
Issue is resolved. MetroPCS ties SIM to device. $15 to switch devices.
I recently purchased a Nexus S from Swappa as an emergency replacement phone for a defective Galaxy Nexus.

I tested it briefly with stock ROM it shipped with and a microSIM in an area with terrible cell coverage, so I thought little of the problems I saw. When I tested it later with CyanogenMod, a full-sized SIM, in an area with strong signal, the problems seem to persist. The solutions I've seen online focus on the Nexus S 4G being flashed onto MetroPCS' old Sprint network, making it difficult to find a solution.
As stated in the Swappa listing above, this is an unlocked T-Mobile Nexus S. It shipped with the box and documentation. The documentation includes T-Mobile inserts. Evidence to me that it is unlocked is that it displays the MetroPCS phone number, it has no T-Mobile branding, and its bootloader was unlockable.

Settings > System > About Phone > Status > Network, reads, "Unknown"

Wireless & Networks > More... > Mobile Networks > Network Operators, when I manually choose MetroPCS, a message pops up reading, "Can't connect to this network right now. Try again later" even though I am in a place that has a strong signal. Another option is available to choose AT&T, and the same error message shows.
Wireless & Networks > More... > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names, MetroPCS LTE is chosen, but no 3G or E icon has appeared next to the signal strength.
I really thought CyanogenMod would save the day here since it worked flawlessly on the GNex. How can I get the Nexus S to work on MetroPCS' GSM network? By taking it to a MetroPCS store.
i have LG G2 D801 but whenever i activate Mobile Data connection its still on Edge while 3G is available i can't use 3G what i can do pls help me its my request to all experts

With the D801 you can select the network mode under Settings -> Tethering & networks -> Mobile networks -> Network mode. There should be 4 options:
GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto
GSM/WCDMA auto
WCDMA only
GSM only
If both GSM and WCDMA are avalable and you are in one of the auto modes and the phone uses GSM (maybe because the WCDMA signal is weak) you can select WCDMA only.

What frequencies does you carrier use for 3G? According to LG the D801 does 1, 2, 4 and 5, which according to Wikipedia are 2100, 1900, 1700 and 850MHz.

Another possibility is that your SIM card is only provisioned for 2G. I had that happen to me in the opposite way with H2O which only allowed access to the WCDMA network but not the GSM (before they added LTE). You may want to contact Mobilink and request a different SIM card.

It might be like ATT here in the states where you must notify the provider of the phone IMEI if you want 4g before they can provision it.
Looks like Mobilnk is uses 2100, so it should work.

Guys I need Help I have G2 D801 using Zong in Pakistan my sim is 4G capable and provisioned and they transmit on 2100hz so that's not a problem as well but still no signals in wcdma only mode I can't get anything above 2G so please find a solution for this I even installed Cm12 for it but still no use

4G/LTE Pakistani Band 3 1800 isnt present in D801.
So you can get 3G HSPA+ only on 2100MHz...
Check APN settings
Resolved for me
My LG G2 had same problem. Changing DNS or modifying APN not resolve it.
I found reason of problem. After several ROM update, my LG G2 IMEI may be damaged. If you see in Cellular Network → Network Operator, these’s only one record for each operator.
I did backup my imei 2 years ago, now I restore it using LG backup IMEI app. After restore my IMEI, i see two same row operator’name in Network Operator. I can connect 3G again after several months without 3G.
If you did not backup IMEI, you can folowing instructions in forums to restore IMEI. Please googling !

I am having issues with my samsung galaxy s3 i747m. This is a canadian model phone (Rogers). I am traveling so I rooted my phone and also unlocked the network. When I was in India, I was only getting 2G connection when I selected GSM/HSPA (auto) in mobile networks and was unable to connect to 3G. If I connect to HSPA only from mobile networks. I lose all my connections. I don't even receive network also. Right now I am in middle east and I am facing the same problem.
My phone has GSM, HSPA and LTE options to choose from mobile networks in settings.
Just wanted to let you know that I called the network carrier and they informed me that they have activated 3G services. It still didn't help. I tried different network sim and I am still getting 2G connection.
I changed the APN settings which is suggested by the network carrier and still I can only get 2G connection and unable to connect to 3G connection.
Some information about my phone:
Model number: SGH-i747M
Android Version: 4.4.2
Baseband version: i747MVLUFOB1
Please help me to solve this issue as 2G connection is extremely slow. I will really appreciate it.

I have an unlocked Verizon LG G4 VS986, I have an AT&T sim card in it and can make and receive calls and texts just fine. I also have internet but it's showing the H symbol and an up and down arrow below it. I have speed tested it in many places including my house and it is slower than My At&t s6 edge was while using the data. I checked a bunch of places and the APN settings seem to be correct. Why am I not getting 4g or lte speeds when I was in the same places with my At&t branded S6 Edge? Can anybody help me atleast get hspca or lte?

Hi, thank you for using XDA Assist. Unfortunately Verizon uses a different LTE band than other carriers. Their hardware often only supports that band.
