Z5 dead - Xperia Z5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
first of all I want to thank the community. I read a lot of threads about Smartphones and helped me a lot.
I bought a Z5 from the Internet with lcd cracked , so I replaced the LCD and than the problems began. Because i bought it on the Internet I don´t know the previous History of the phone. LCD is working fine because it was testet.
Z5 turn on with 1x vibration no screen and NO LED while charging
Flashmode and Fastboot mode works but discontiuned always
Press the yellow button on the sim tray it vibrates 3x
I let it charge for 5h NO led but could flash a .tft with flashtool - no success, after than I tried to repair with sony companion - no succeess. Bootloader is locked. I have the key to unlock, but failed "FAILED (remote: Command not allowed)"
I let it charge for 12 hours, no led again.
There is a sort of life in the mainboard because it vibrates and can get fastboot and flashmode, but no screen no led while charging
Anyone had similar Problems?
Any Ideas?

You could try replacing the battery. Were you able to do any overall functionality check on the device before working on it? See any corrosion on the logic or water damage indicators tripped? What did you do to test the LCD?

I went to a repair shop and they said the motherboard is defect, and they only test the lcd, battery is ok he said, but I don´t trust this guy because he ripped the microphone flex cable and told me that I was it. I am sure I didn´t ripped the flex cable.
The Device was opened before me and I guess they messed something up.
Where are the water damage indicators located?
Yesterday I flashed twice succesfully with flashtool but no LED while charging and no screen
This is so mysteriously..

since u bought it online having cracked screen , you should consider following possibilities
1. how did it crack? by dropping from height etc
2. if yes then the damage was far deeper than just cracked screen
3. if no then atleast the device seems already bricked and its stuck thats why no fastboot is working!
4. try pressing power key and volum up for 15 seconds the device should VIBRATE 3 times, while on second time vibrating, RELEASE BOTH FINGERS IMMEDIATEL. this should switch of the device., NOW try connecting in flashmode. should work thou
5. if all fails then i suspect that the shock what broke screen actually hurt mother board also. and repairing the device will cost you new Xperia XZ

Z3 will not turn on no matter what

So this morning i unplugged my phone, fully charged, and used a flashlight app. Then all of the sudden my phone just went black and i have not been able to get it to do anything for over an hour and a half now. No matter what i do it will not turn on. Ive tried to power button/rockers combo to get it to turn on, nothing, Ive tried the little button in the sd card compartment, nothing.... Anyone else have this issue? I cannot find anything on the Z3 for this, only stuff for the older models... Thanks.
Hold volume up and power button until the phone vibrates. Then connect a USB cable to your computer while holding volume down on the phone. If the phone is recognised by the pc you should be able to flash your phone using flash tool and hopefully that will get you back up and running. That's the only solution I can think of. Maybe some other members might be able to help if this don't work.

Nothing... I cant get the phone to do anything at all. I really do not understand.
I can't help then mate other than suggesting taking it back to where you got it from or sending it to Sony. Hopefully somebody else can help you out to save you the hassle

Hello, my girlfriend have the same problem in his Xperia Z3. When she works his phone lying on the desk. She want call to me and the power/lock button don't work. She call to me from other mobile phone and she describe problem. After 10 seconds search in google I find a way to restart phone. She pressed little yellow switch under nano Sim/micro SD plug. Phone power down and never give up. Power button is dead, combinations : vol+ and power , vol- and power, vol+ and vol- and power also didn't work. When I plug the USB cable the charging will start normally. In screen I have a big battery icon with animation.
Maybe someone have similar problem with Z3 and know a solution??
Well if its the button, tap to wake could solve the problem till you decide to get it repaired.
It could also be a battery issue. Try charging for a few hours on a charger and then try turning on after connecting to a PC with phone drivers by holding the power button for like 10secs. That is the method used for HTC phones with similar issues.
The HTC One X had battery issues for some where it would not turn on until it was connected to thr charger for a few hours. I had, had the same issue you mentioned and tried the method mentioned above but never turned on. Repair shop tested the battery and eventually had to replace a bad mothetboard.
That is not normal and even if you could get it back from that sort of failure, you don't want this device unless it is fixed or replaced.

Still nothing. Power/unlock button is dead. Today I go to sell point (T-mobile Poland ) and leave for warranty repair. I used Xperia Z3 for 2 weeks
If you are within 14 days TMO should give you a brand new device.
I'm having the same problem too. I tried to use the flashlight app for the first time and it just completely bricked my Z3.

Hello,
Xperia Z3 back from repair few days ago. Message from service: hardware repair, updated soft, phone is 100% functionality and compatible with specification from producer.
Ive just received my z3 as replacement for g flex and its from Plus poland lol.
Sent from my Xperia Z3 using XDA Free mobile app
Just happened to me today- Xperia Z3 Compact
So last night, i left my phone to charge after reaching 5%. When I woke up, my phone won't start and it won't charge either. The LED indicator was not lighting when it is plugged.
I tried every trick:
1. Pressed down the power button in different lengths.
2. No. 1 but with the volume down key
3. Pressed down the yellow button on the sim card tray
4. Tested 5 different charger heads and different wires
5. Tried connecting to 2 different laptops to see if my phone will be recognized
I work close by a Sony Center so I was planning on passing by after work. I was already having a really bad day and my phone is not under warranty. Throughout the morning, I'd randomly check the power button if it will finally work. FORTUNATELY, during lunch, the LED indicator finally lit up! The batt was drained so I had to charge it and wait a few minutes before turning it on. Finally it's on. I don't know what the eff happened or if it is really resolved.
I'd still want to know what the hell is wrong with Xperia Z phones??
Mines 'died' twice, both times the only way I could get it to turn back on was to connect to magnetic charger dock/cable
this is really works on me.. !!! try this one.....

just do the no .3 ... and it works to me... thank u for posting this .. it helps me a lot.......
It's called the 'sudden death' bug and a small number of sony xperia phones die from it., including the Z3. It is more common in the Z3 Compact (I suffered from it and had to get it replaced). Just google sony Z3 sudden death.
Did the OP use a quick charger on his Z3? The reason I ask is that the repairer I sent my Z3C to originally said the motherboard was gone and needed to be replaced, possibly cased by current. I used to use a quick charger on my Z3C and wonder if it caused it as the phone worked perfectly for 6 weeks before dying.
There are several so called fixes and workarounds that work for some people, not all. Only a motherboard replacement fixes it properly.
Fix for Z3 not powering up / no charge LED
My Z3 would not power up and no charge LED when cable plugged in. Finally found this solution on Sonymobile support website which fixed my phone!
To force the device to restart
Detach the SIM card slot cover.
Using the tip of a pen or similar object, press and hold down the small OFF button (generally indicated by the text "OFF") until the device has emitted three vibrations, and then release the OFF button. The device turns off automatically.
Charge the device until a charging icon appears on the screen.
Turn on your Xperia™ device.
If a forced restart procedure as described above doesn't succeed in turning on your device, you should try another kind of forced restart - the 2-minute restart procedure.
To force a 2-minute restart
Detach the SIM card slot cover.
Using the tip of a pen or similar object, press and hold down the small OFF button (generally indicated by the text "OFF") for 120 seconds (ignoring any vibrations), and then release the OFF button.
Charge the device until a charging icon appears on the screen.
Turn on your Xperia™ device.
I had to hold the 'off' button for about 60 seconds before the phone vibrated and sprung into life - phew!
I bought mine with the broken screen so I don't know for sure what happened. Bid won for $37
The led light came on when plugged in, but no vibrations. The computer recognized it and installed as the D6633. Properties show the battery had charged to 29%, 60%, 99%.
But clicking into it just shows a blank page. No folders, drive volumes, or anything.
However if it is not hooked up to a charger or computer then as well as no vibration there is no lights either. Does get a little warm though.
Bought the new display and powerflex. Still wont turn on, no vibrations, and only shows led when plugged in.
Tried the volume up, down, power, all three, reset button in sim tray.
PC Companion can't work with it. It almost worked once but said if there was a google account and I did not have the info I would be facing the whole account lock fiasco....No thank you. Can't even get it to recognize it for that option properly anymore anyway.
Could easily connect it into fastboot mode, but getting it into flash mode took much much much more effort. But eventually I did and flashed an image with flash tool. Went fine. Flashed everything......NO CHANGE......
I'm guessing at this point maybe the board was more damaged than seems....Though it's weird how the computer recognizes it and can flash everything.
Or there is a damaged power IC, transistor, capacitor, or something.
I really hope Sony took care of this in the Z5 and it is no longer an issue in future devices. It was said in a few comments above that only a few people are affected....Yet there are endless searches and pages with a dramatic number of users facing it.

Low battery bootloop but accessible via PC (fastboot & flashmode)

Hey community,
i bought a sony xperia z3 three months ago.
Yesterday I recognized that my phone was at 50% battery after charging the whole night.
I thought that its a bug or something and I got my real 100%, but after ~3 hours it was still at 50% and suddenly there was the "you have to charge your phone"-pop up for 1ms.
So i decided to plug in my charger and thought my phone will charge again. But no, the battery icon also switched from 14% to 50% in this 1ms. It was going on like (13%<->50%, 12%<->50% and so on) this until my phone died and got 0%.
I haven't unlocked my bootloader, flashed it or something like this. It was the original vodafone branded sony xperia z3.
Until now I can't charge my phone, because everytime I plug in the charger, my phone is booting with the low-battery icon and after 5 seconds it's turning of in a loop. Booting for 5 seconds and then shutting down and so on...
I thought my phone will have enough battery when I will plug in the charger for the whole night and my phone will try to start in this loop until it has enough battery. But again, nope!
Now I decided to unlock the bootloader and flash my phone with Cyanogenmod 12 or CMW, because my phone is accessible from the computer. I can go into the flashboot and flash mode.
But also after unlocking and flashing I've got the same thing again. It won't start.
I tried to charge it for about 4 hours in flashboot mode, because then the blue light is shining and my phone is not shutting down. But NOPE, same **** again.
I don't know what I can do anymore. Can you help me?
Do you think I have to change the battery?
Looking forward to hear from you! It's only three months old never dropped or something like this.
greetings and sorry for the wall of text
shimmy
bro warranty covers that, but as soon as u unlocked bootloader, u kinda voided that too =(
go to Vodafone and DO NOT mention that you unlocked bootloader and explain the problem within 2 weeks of purchase u should receive a brand new device and afterwards they'll repair it for you
I have a small crack (2mm thick and I think it came from pressure) at the backcover and asked vodafone if they can change my backcover, because now it's not guaranteed that it's waterproof.
They said no, because it's my own fault if something is cracked or broken on the case and I have to pay 259€ to get a new one.
Yesterday I called vodafone again because of this problem and they won't repair it, because of my first support case and I have to pay 259€ to get a new phone. I was arguing for about 1 hours that this is a guarantee case and it has nothing to do with the crack, but they don't care and there are some laws that I could say that they have damaged my phone and so on. No chance.. Maybe I should call my advocate.
I read something about locking the bootloader? Maybe I can flash a stock version and lock the bootloader?
Try yellow reset button.
I also tried this before. It doesn't fix the problem.
Hi guys, Sorry to bring up such a old post but having a similar issue.. My Mrs phone just started rebooting one day, Vodafone refused to replace because tiny crack. The boot loader is unlockable I tried repairing with xperia windows tools the flashed older and different firmware's many times. The phone works when connected to PC but when unplugged or on normal charger just constant reboot.
Any suggestions on what to do?
Thanks

[Completed] HTC Desire 826 Screen Blackout

My friend got his new HTC Desire 826 in July 2015. He is having issue with his phone, the screen totally blackouts. He doesn't want to repair the phone because it has no more warranty and will cost much to repair. He asked my help to recover any data possible from his phone.
This was the info I got from him: The phone would restart itself once in a while in the recent few months of use (almost the time that the warranty ended). The screen would black out sometimes, a physical hit on the phone helped to recover it. At the last few moments before the screen totally blackout, the screen showed the mirror image of what it's suppose to show (he had to put it in front of a mirror to read the message). And then it just died and never come alive again. He can't remember whether he set the phone to silent mode.
What I did: Removed and put in the battery, pressing power button gives me a short vibration (I assume that means it can be turned on). Dissemble and reassembled the boards, flex cables etc. No burn mark or broken connection seen. Connect to TV using MHL cable, no signal detected. Soft reset by pressing POWER + VOLUME UP button, it vibrated and screen was still black. Since then, charging after turn on doesn't shows red light below the front camera. The metal cover above the motherboard was usually very hot whenever the phone is on. I'm working like I'm blind, omg >_<.
What's wrong with the phone? What should I do? Possible to repair? Some questions I'd like to ask.
1) Using MHL, does the phone screen need to be working then the TV will show what's on the phone screen?
2) Is there anyway I can connect the phone to other external screen and control externally?
3) I'm hesitant to repair the phone, the heating up of the motherboard scares me that the phone won't last long even after repair. Anyone has this phone and how do u go about this heating issue?

Look like your phone isn't charging maybe thats why its not turning on. Do you see charging animation when you connected to AC power supply. Try flashing another rom. See if that helps.
It seems you can access bootloader mode. You can use fastboot to re-flash stock firmware that might solve the issue.
Press and hold power+volume down until you go into bootloader mode, connect phone to pc, and fastboot flash the stock firmware.

I second this, looks like your Moto G3 might have lost its physical connection between the battery's cables and the phone's logic board and thus no battery is or could be charging for this reason. I would open up the Moto G3 to see if that's the reason, a possibly bad solder point between the batter's cable and the motherboard, but opening up the Moto G3 to make ANY examinations internally would prove to be a B _ _ _ H, since everything is glued together ala "IPhone Style", in fact Motorola could have taken classes from Apple in how to screw with the customers in terms of repair-ability of their phones that you wont find a single screw, according to the "IFixIt" page you will need a heat gun or a head pad to heat up the corners of the LCD screen and then with a tool to pry it open, and since the glass is very fragile there's a high chance that you will break the glass in the process and you would need to replace that as well. I say that this phone is probably one of the worse ones in terms of user repair-ability, but anyways, I would save my rant of "User Repair-ability" for a different topic for the future, but the point is that in case if you have to open up your Moto G 2015 to fix it yourself, its going to be very difficult.

Sony XZ Premium not charging just getting slightly warm

Hi Everyone, after a lot of savings and reading reviews i bought XZ premium and have been happy till few days back when it all of sudden died!
Background-
My phone model no is G8141, bought in Australia being used currently in India so its not eligible for Warranty
I kept it for charging as usual in night via Sony Charger and it was found off in morning with no notification light, charging indicator basically died while charging .
Steps i took-
1. i tried regular powering on procedure then volume up and power button simultaneous press .
2. changed charger with same cable then same charger, diff cable , then both charger and cable different, realised phone was getting slightly warm near bottom of back but no indication of charging like notification light or screen display !
3. Plugged in computer not getting detected , tried Xperia Companion software repair not getting detected
4. Cleaned phone charging joining Usb C socket and headphone socket thoroughly with Iso - Propyl Alcohol !
Now i don't know what to do, its an expensive phone not covered under warranty in India and was/is my main phone, camera, internet access device !
I request all Sony lovers, Tech lovers to help me out as Phone repair Segment in India is highly unprofessional and unorganised and I am not travelling to UK or Australia for coming 5 months for sure by then the warranty will be over !
I am comfortable in opening the phone as last resort as well and have access to heat Gun and opening tools if that is helpful .
and not getting detected in Xperia Companion even when selecting Software repair

Try this:
1. Unplug the phone from the computer.
2. Press and hold volume down.
3. While holding volume down, plug the phone in to the computer.
A green light should appear. If it does, try flashing a new firmware using Flashtool.
Was this submerged in water by any chance?
Thanks for quick reply iArvee
The green notification light does not appear and it has not been submersed in water.
i tried running flashtool and this is the message

Hello Everyone,
Can anybody help me, i am stuck with amazing Sony XZ Premium ( till it was working ) and now it is a very very expensive paperweight and an eyesore.
Since the phone has spent past 5 months just sitting in a desk drawer and i am clueless how to proceed so i hope some one can help. Even if it requires hardware solution.
It has no sign of life except phone getting warm when connected to charger and some times even after.
my phone is also doing strange, rebooting when plug charger in. im scared and gonna make backup. this phone has suicide button after 2018 september
obviously power ic chip damage from water in usb then charging. when mine dried (disconnect from charger) then vol and power button with reset
now works ok.
