Do not take APH1 update! - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Guides, News, & Dis

After taking the APH1 update on my phone, I can no longer downgrade to PG5, and I also can't flash the PG9 U firmware. I don't know what Samsung/Verizon did, but it's ridiculous.
I'm now stuck on the APH1 firmware and can't get on the U firmware at all.
I haven't tried rooting, but there is no Odin firmware for APH1 yet, so I'm not going to try until there is, so that if I mess up my phone I can fix it.

What is the full firmware version number? If they updated the bootloader that would explain why you can't downgrade.

It's bootloader v4

Give 3.11.1 a try, I use it all the tome with no problems. It will either flash or not so there is no risk bricking your phone. http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-s7-edge/how-to/firmware-verizon-s7-edge-t3344092

Looking at the full firmware name it looks like it's on bootloader v4. None of that will probably work.

Don't bother trying to root... even though I'm not a Verizon customer, it looks like you house have been dicked out of root as you can't go back to previous firmwares and another site I visit says it's been fixed. Sorry guys on Verizon :crying:

Meant to say guys... not house. On another note, this means Aat will probably be getting bootloader v4 soon then too... :/

It is bootloader 4. I can confirm.

Well for individuals who did update here is a link to the firmware in case it is needed. https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BybvkLkW8XrDdlRSUGI5Y1VSM3c md5 43E1295CAA08F8E16E873F945728B7D5 @Misterxtc can mirror in the firmware thread if he chooses. But, DO NOT FLASH OR YOU CANNOT DOWNGRADE! The only reason I flashed it was to convert my unlocked T-Mobile Device to Verizon as it was stuck on bootloader 3.

Why would the updated bootloader stop the root? Ru sure? Tmobile had there bootloader updated after the root exploit and was still able to root. It's a developmental kernal, can't see anything on update that would affect the exploit.

If the U firmware gets a upgrade and it's a matching bootloader version as any US carriers bootloader, I would bet it would be able to flash again.

It's not the bootloader that "patches" the root method... it was the security update in PH1 that broke root. The bootloader being V4, prevents you guys from going back to rootable firmware. You now need a new root method which PROBABLY won't happen

Root does work. However you cannot flash U firmware over PH1 simply because there is no U firmware on bootloader v4 yet. Once there is you will be able to.

You might be able to flash a U ROM on top of the PF1 baseband. I was running EchoeRom after updating to PH1 and it was working fine. I flashed my stock PH5 backup to see how that runs now. So far so good.

G920f questions...plz help!!!

Okay so I got a g920F on swappa.com and its on 5.1.1. Rooted and twrp 2.8.7.1 or whatever the current is.....anyways is there a way to downgrade to 5.0.2? I know on the g920P there is not so not sure if that's the case here as well.
My 2nd question is, is there a way to upgrade to marshmallow without a pc? I don't own a pc and can't access one on anyway and I'd really like to try mm.
3rd to last question is this: is there a mobile odin like tool I can use or could flashfire be used on the s6 like on the s5? If memory serves me, I used flashfire back when the s6 came out but I could be mistaken.
Final question....does anyone have the 5.1.1 stock firmware for the G920F? I believe mine is the tbu version of whatever the version for UK is....not sure how to check. Or a stock rom I can flash to recieve the mm update. Please n thanks.

Downgrading From Nougat to Marshmallow

I have a G930A on AT&T (although I think the "A" at the end signifies that) with rooted Nougat. Unfortunately it is extremely laggy, and I am wanting to downgrade from rooted Nougat to rooted Marshmallow (I really don't want to lose root). Is there a way that this can be done? There's a lot of stuff (ROMS, Kernals, etcetera) out there for the Exynos processor, but virtually nothing for Snapdragon. That's super depressing.

Aye, you can always downgrade using ODIN and Samsung's stock firmware files, although they take super long to complete downloading since the speed is capped -.-.
I'm pretty sure the bootloader did change. I will try going to QC1. Maybe i need to go back in steps?
How can i downgrade qc1 to pl6 or mm , ive been able.to downgrade all n firmware but not not back to mm it fails saying pit file error

Hi guys,
yesterday I made update of Renovate ROM like other days. First of all I updated new firmware (G950FXXU1AQG5) and restarted to recovery (via TRWP) again to make rom update. BUT...after firmware update my loved S8+ didnt reboot to recovery but freeze on Samsung LOGO. And now I can only start DOWNLOAD mode. There is no way to go to RECOVERY. No reaction on hotkeys, ADB command line doesnt work too...there is no way how to start RECOVERY mode.
I tried DOWNLOAD mode and ODIN to make firmware uploads again but ALWAYS Odin say <ID:0/007> FAIL! (DeviceInfo). So doesnt matter if I had try to upload firmware or complet stock rom or only BL and CL always ODIN give me error.
Please is there somebody who can help me with this terrible situation. I need my phone for everyday work....
Thanks 2 All

I'm no expert so take this as tip/question.
Are you using the latest Odin 3.12.3? http://odindownload.com/SamsungOdin/
You can download the bootloader AQF7 from here : https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=889764386195911671
Possible your tar/md5 is corrupt?
TWRP will be updated to work as soon as Samsung release the kernel source so that it can be updated to work. No ETA unfortunately

The best we can hope for is that its just enhanced security that can be overcome with the new sources when released. The worst outcome is they've locked the BL and its unlockable like the Snapdragon version which means we'll be stuck on the current BL and will be unable to install new updates that need a new BL.

You can't downgrade unless you button mash which is most likely a bug. It's pretty obvious Samsung are trying to stop bootloader unlocking on the Exynos.

Im not sure what you mean exactly...i was talking about simply flashing the previous BL in Odin which people are doing.
And the exynos bootloaders do not and have never required unlocking because they are not locked to begin with.
Further to that this isnt the first time samsung pushed an update that broke twrp and root...its happened lots of times on sammy devices over the years... they will get it fixed no doubt.
Now that's not to say that they arent trying to prevent us from modding our devices...and it may happen at some point that the exynos does get locked...time will tell

SM-J327U(nlocked) variant - unlocked bootloader, what now?

So I just picked this phone up from Best Buy, it was cheap and unlocked. Already have it working with a T-Mobile SIM. I'm somewhat new to Samsung devices, but I'm pretty sure this means it's an unlocked bootloader too.. In Developer Options there is a switch for "OEM unlock," which allowed me to flash TWRP built for the SM-J327P, ending up in a nice bootloop.
Anyway that's not the point, I used Samsung KIES to reflash a stock image and it's back to normal.
Assuming this bootloader is unlocked, what do I need to flash to get root? Does this mean I have to build TWRP myself?

The bootloader version is the 5th number from far end of your current firmware 3 or higher cannot be rooted and the only method is partcyborg rom
there is no downgrading or nothing
if you have to have root get another device
you cannot use cf auto root or flash twrp as we have locked bootloaders
if the bootloader gets unlocked then yes cf auto root and junk will work then

Howdy;
I haven't found anything. I'm on same Baseband Version. That #5, five numbers from the left seems to be a killer.

Yea, I've had it for so long stock, just upgraded to s10+ and decided to just keep this as a secondary because it's still solid, no a single issue
(long time root user, webOS, epic touch 4g, then all even galaxy S devices) root was so fun!
Thanks for the post my friend, maybe someday this version will be cracked

And there's no way to root without wiping data huh? I was hoping to just add root to my current device, I'll read up too though, I've been out of the root scene for a short bit

More than likely no. I swapped system images a few times. Kinda like dirty flashing and it worked. But errors begin to pile up. One can try. But more than likely user data will be corrupted

Yea, that's what I figured, if I had a better internet, I would start messing around, it takes forever to download anything for me, out in the cuts.. I like to have my Stock firmware files ready to go incase I need to fix a soft brick or something..
Anyhoo, thanks for the posts my friend, I appreciate it!
