I'm sorry, this is going to sound really stupid,
But when it comes to the Galaxy s7 edge phones,
Could someone please tell me what it is people talk about
when they mention odin'ing a factory PD8 file,
I've scoured google for an answer and can not seem to find anywhere with a simple definition,
What are these files,
are they touchwiz versions?
Please help.
I am also looking for this. I rooted the Samsung Galaxy S7 and noticed lag spikes. I read an article that says this is because the boot.img used to root the phone is running PD6, and that the next step is to acquire the PD8 file and apply via Odin utility. Are there steps anywhere for this process? I'll even settle for the file link only, and I figure out the rest.
Thank you in advance!

Hey, everyone. So I've been trying to figure out how to put ROM's on my Rogers Samsung Infuse 4G. I apologize if this frustrates anyone, I am usually pretty adept at figuring tech things out, however I've been browsing the web and these forums for about three days now and I am so utterly confused that it's beyond frustrating. Every time I manage to find a closely related thread or question I end up with dead links or down some tangent to alternate threads which in the end leaves me with more questions and confusion about how to actually do this. There is never a definitive "do this" thread. So, I've reached the point where I had to come on here and create my own thread.
Here's what I've done to this point;
I tried to root my phone using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1197248 that thread. I don't know what happened but it somehow failed and bricked my phone. I was able to get it back up and running using the Odin Stock w/root in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1193927 and that's where I sit now.
I've gathered that I need to get CWM and a modded recovery file to be able to flash with a ROM and that's where the problems begin.
I downloaded ROM manager and ES File Explorer to find and rename my recovery file, only to find there is no recovery file in my Bin folder.
From there I've read just about every thread possible and this has lead me to just be more confused, mostly because I can't find many threads pertaining to the specific model I have and I'm paranoid as hell to brick my phone by doing/installing something incompatible.
My phone is a Rogers Samsung 4G Infuse. Model SGH-I997R. Using GB 2.3.3 and I gather my baseband version is relevant as well, it's I997R UXKG3.
If someone could walk me through how on earth to sort this out, or point me in the direction of some active and actually useful threads, that would be amazing!

it makes no difference if you are on att or rogers if you are trying to flash a custom rom.
after you flash, the only difference is the APN - needs to be set to rogers.
use any of the stock rooted packages in the dev section
use odin or heimdall
jscott30 has odin packages avail to get you the cwm you need
i had a uclb3 stock with recovery also
alternatively, you can just use one of the custom gb kernels via odin or heimdall..flash the kernel to get cwm and flash what ever you want
advice:
search and read
gl
I have the problem flashing my friend's i997r, when i do i it reboots into recovery n never goes into the actual os. Phones goes to the galaxy s cyanogenmod screen and boots into recovery each time.

Hey guys wassup! I'm new to this forum so sorry if i posted this in the wrong category but here goes.... Basically my wife has a samsung s3 gt-19300 and all of a sudden the phone wasn't turning on, when she attached the charger it just showed the battery sign but did nothing. took it to a few local phone repair shops they told us software or hardware issue and they cant fix it. The more i read online i started seeing how common it is and that people found a fix. I downloaded odin 3.07 and a few pda files and pit files but have no idea what im doing. all i get when i tried following instructions was there is no pit partition and once i got the pit file it said get pit partition. can some one please help me with a step by step guide and maybe even a download link to the right files for this phone. i have no idea about this stuff and would appreciate it. Also please dont send me a link to another thread coz its confusing as it is. hopefully some one will be able to help and i will keep this thread updated. thanks in advance and i look forward to the replies.
Alright, so I'm pretty new to all of this. I've read the threads here for probably 2 years, and finally decided to join because I rooted my phone. It's rather old to be honest my phone. It's a Samsung Galaxy Gio. Gt-S5660M (Canadian) (M). Well anyways due to it being a Samsung phone, and my phone having stock kernel. I believe that's how it is. Plus it having the stock rom, but bing rooted, the files for startup animations are called - "samsungboot.qmg" , They all have that suffix of .qmg . So its made trying to understand how to implant a new boot animation rather difficult. Should I root my phone to a different version in hopes that it changes the system files and no longer requires a qmg. File but rather can utilize a bootanimation.zip file instead? I could be completely off, mainly the reason I am assuming this is becausemost pre-made animations are built in a .zip format. Well any help would be much appreciated, I'd like to learn as much as possible about what is possible and can be achieved. Or how to change that animation would suffice. . Currently running GB 2.3.4 rooted. If any specs are needed I'd be glad to share. Even images of the system folders if it helps anyone in aiding me.
You have to use ODIN
You have to use ODIN, look for it on the search pane.-:silly::good::cyclops:
Alright, that would make sense!

But, still though, I will have to take a look into it, what exactly will I be doing in odin? Does it convert file format, or am I changing my phone's OS again? Having to use Odin is better than me being in the dark, but I'm just curious as to how it helps with my problem. Thank you for your reply however. Hopefully you can help me work through this. -.-

Well, my phone is already rooted... I had a rather specific question about getting a custom booting animation... And then wanted to know how exactly Odin would aid me with that.
If so, would you mind sharing the procedure? I've tried flashing the 4.4.4 firmware in 3 different computers, with Odin 3.4, 3.7 and 3.9, using several cables and several USB ports, but it always results in a <ID:0/003> FAIL! (Auth) or stuck on aboot. I've done factory reset, wiped cache, turned on debugging. Lollipop sucks the battery harder than a truck stop hooker, and would love to go back to KitKat. Thanks for any help thrown my way.
Not everybody at once, people! That's what I get for buying a phone only 3 other people own. It's OK, I still love you, Edge.
I was able to downgrade as were a few others with Edges. A little searching and you'll find all the answers you're looking for.

Is your Edge from Verizon? I found information for other carriers (which I assumed would be the same procedure, obviously with the right firmware), but since my downgrade failed miserably, I want to know if anyone else with a Verizon Note Edge has been able to downgrade.

Check your PM's
Please share this info
Please share on how to roll back to kit kat on the Verizon note edge. I upgraded to lollypop and do not like the battery life and a few other things that have come about because of this upgrade. I have tried using Odin to revert back to 4.4.4 but keep getting a failed message. I would be forever great full if you could please send me or post this information.
Thanks in advance for the help!
If I am ever able, I will. Still stuck with 5.0.1.
Hi gang. FYI... In trying to help MEXICO downgrade his Edge, I sent him a PM with information I thought could be useful for downgrading his Verizon version. Apparently this was something he had already seen and was of no help to him. I have been searching for the tar files for Verizon edge kitkat to no avail. I will continue to research, but at this point I cannot offer any help as I am on AT&T. If I come across something that may be useful, I'll let you know. I encourage you all to also keep searching and share any information you might find. I'm sorry that I'm pretty much useless at this point.
Bootloader TAR File
I have managed to find a sample of the TAR file for the 915F version of the Galaxy Note Edge. I have also been able to find this thread that details what info needs to be made into the TAR file from the downloaded 4.4.4 Verizon Firmware file but I have been unable to create the TAR bootloader file correctly. I keep getting individual files in a TAR and not an MD5 in a TAR. It is a start and hopefully someone with greater knowledge of creating said TAR file can take this info and run with it.
Sample TAR file Thread:

What needs to be in the TAR file:

Here is the place to download the stock firmware:

Hope this is the beginning of something that can work. Please let me know if I can be of further help.

try using a pit file with odin. im thinking it wouldnt have an error if you had the pit file.
to answer your question "what have i done?" it would seem, you changed things you didnt understand and didnt realize the consequences, resulting in a big @SS mess
dont do that
Like I said odin won't work because of unexpected partition layout.
I'm fully aware of the consequences however I will be the recipient
Of a Samsung galaxy note 4 next week so I was just experimenting
And I will definitely not be rooting that

ill just assume you dont know what a pit file is, and ill move on. good luck!
No need to assume, I'll be honest I've no idea what a pit file is or how to use one
Etc etc, however I'd be interested to learn if you can give me the basics, everybody has to start somewhere and the only way to progress is if people share the knowledge,
So what do you know that can help me??

go to your devices forum where the return to stock post is, and see if there is a pit file for whatever version you have. if not, try a search for pit over your general and q&a forums. im sure you will find some, just need to match them to the stock files.
on odin, there is a pit box, check it and link your pit file.
I'd just like to let you know I have managed to sort my phone out
I got a clockwork mod ,and now I'm using something called CyanogenMod
I'm not quite sure how I have managed to achieve this but I have my WiFi connected
to my phone again, Odin is installed and working with no unexpected partition layout
Problems, however my SD card won't mount and I can't seem to get Google playstore
But for now its a small price to pay considering where I was this afternoon. I think I've done well
