Use a computer to format as above especially if it's a new card and try again the xa will take upto a 200gb sd card no problem.

Format in FAT32 with Gparted an Ubuntu if it doesn't work, working for corrupted card too.

the thing is... that the card is working on other devices..

Have you tried multiple sd cards in the xa, if so and they all refuse to work on the xa but work fine on other devices it could be the card reader is defective.

What brand of SD card is it? I'm having the same trouble with my Samsung Pro 64GB, whether it's formatted with FAT32 or ExFAT, and of course the card works in other devices and other cards work in the phone.

8GB here and no problem !

For me the only working way is to format again in Fat32 with Gparted and Ubuntu. Everybody will have this problem when disabling Adoptable Storage, formatting with the Android/TWRP/Windows will not solve the problem. And it seem to be the same with some cards "out of the box".

same as mine when i rooted my phone before haha

Hi,
Is the sd card loose in it's casing?
What have your tried?
Tried SD in a different Phone?
Checked the SD for errors?
Is the SD loose in the carrier?
Formatted the SD (fat 32 and primary partioion) from a PC?
Tried a different SD in your phone?
It does help if you do the basics and add what you've done in the OP

No, I'm never inserting my SD card to any other devices
Previously i checked it for errors, and got cleaned
After I purchased it,i haven't formatted....
I found this "un-expectally unmount error" from this last week...
I had similar issues with my sensation my sd would unmount unexpectedly it would vary from rom to rom. I found that if re flashed my current rom without a wipe it would correct the problem. It worked in my case hope it helps

I would try the reflashing rom idea above as its easy.
If that doesnt work transfer all the sd card data to your computer then format the card. See if that fixes.

Heads up 64gb MicroSD

Just a heads up, might help a few people. My phones batt drained completely and whenever i charged it and turned it on it always said that my SD card was damaged and needed reformatting. At first i kept on reformatting it and thought i might have bought a faulty SD card.
Then i thought id experiment when it happened again, after plugging it in, i let it charge from 1% to 10% and reset the phone. Suddenly my SD card works again and was no longer considered "damaged"
Just randomly guessing that maybe my phone didnt have enough juice to run the SD card when it was drained to 0.
Have only gotten to test it once. Ill try again tom since on a daily basis i drain the batt to 0 by 6pm. Ill post again if it works again.

sandisk 64gb?
http://www.phonearena.com/news/SanDisk-says-it-produced-some-bad-32GB-and-64GB-microSD-cards_id40986
I have just purchased the 64gb ultra SanDisk as well.
Put it in once i had formatted it for exFAT and all was well until a few hours into my phone usage it said i need to format my card, as it may be corrupt/damaged. I took no notice and went into storage and mounted it, and it worked again. It does this all the bloody time.
So i tried to change ROM's as i thought hey.. who knows. But behold that when i select a ROM from the SD card it stops working half way through my flash. Lucky I have a backup on my internal SD card or i'd be fu**ed...
Formatting for FAT32 does the same thing. I've emailed sandisk as I must have one of their defective cards.

There seems to be a fix from Phil (Creator of Philz CWM)
In an ADB shell you can type this code to attempt to mount the 64Gb card.
Use a tool like this if you are unfamiliar with ADB interfaces.
LINK:
and then check this out if you are also unfamiliar on how to use ADB...
LINK:
Code:
mount -t exfat /external_sd
I have not tried it yet as I am awaiting my new sanDisk ultra card...

hmm how is that a fix? it's just mounting the card.
can you link to where phil suggests this? Thanks.
i'm also having issues where my card will just randomly unmount then remount, and the media scanner process then scans the entire card and chews through my battery. i have a 64gB sandisk

Phil said that it may be a problem with CWM mounting the card. Like I said I can't try it so can't confirm if it works. No one as yet has reported it working or not yet..
Forum link:
oh CWM, i don't have any problems there, just when i'm actually booted into android proper.

[Completed] [Q] sd card is ruined!

hello, this is abdis,
I have an sd card that is 8 gb, and was working for many months, then the sd card suddenly stopped responding.
it starting being slow and deleting or coping files took 2 days just for 1 gb file.
I tried all possilble ways of formatting, but it just says ""cannot format drive".
is there a way to fix this problem?
Thank you.
also I forgot to mension that it is not from my computer, because i tried the sdhc on other pcs too, but it was still same.
thanks for your time.
Hi, thank you for using XDA Assist. Unfortunately it sounds like the sd card is bad. Try formatting it on your pc with a sd card reader. if that doesn't work then you'll need a new card.

I have a micro sd card 2.0 usb, i put the sdhc inside and it is still the same as in the sd card.
Do you think that the sdhc is bad?
I also tried using Chkdsk in CMD but after I write clean it loads and stays 0, it finishes while it is still 0.
Thank you, Abdis

problems with SD card

I have an external sd-card who I use as internal memory. Once a day the phone doesn't recognise the SD card anymore. When I restart my a 9 it's there again. Does Anyone else recognise this problem. And hobbies you solve it?
Maybe it because of the cheap SD card I use? But I don't want to invest on a new one if the problem appears again.
Thanks

Hy,
No,i didn't know that this is necessary. What file system is needed? NTFS,Fat32 or is there a Special System for Android
Do i need a special Software to format the Card or can it be done with Windows?

It can be done with Windows. I don't know if this will work or not, but just play around a bit. Maybe Samsung formats it for their phones only ?
