Hi,
I've got an HTC One S since a few weeks (got it with the 1.57 FW I think). It's a stock one, not from a carrier. No branding.
The battery life was great, 2 to 3 days with normal use.
But yesterday evening I proceeded to the OTA update and since then, trouble began
Battery life is much, much lower. After 12 hours standing on my desk in the office, I got 10% remaining!
Anytime I switch the screen ON, I see there is some data being sent (or received) because the "arrows" are full. If I check in system panel lite, there's always 1 or 2 kb/s of traffic.
Also, the phone is a bit warm, quite often.
Has anyone else noticed this? That's rather annoying :/
Could be faulty? I have the same phone with no carrier or branding and not had any problems at all.
Like faulty hardware? Seems unlikely to me since it worked well with 1.57. Also, sending data isn't hardware related

Android OS gives no more details. Media is told to include "Download manager" "DRM protected content storage" "Media storage" and "Downloads"
This sounds like a lot of background data :/
Try an app called Badass Battery monitor. It should tell you what's eating your battery.

I have to say, this phone, at least mines, seems to have a pretty bi polar battery. It's got a case of ADHD.
For example, just the other day, I had the phone fully charged when I awoke at 9am, after playing Temple Run, surfing the web, using GPS, streaming and listening to music, playing more Temple Run, fiddling around with the OS, checking emails, sending texts, talking on the phone a bit, downloading apps, with about 25-30% brightness, I ended up with 18% battery remaining after a good 11 hours of very heavy use. I was quite pleased, considering the inordinate amount of usage I had with the phone all day.
(BTW, I use Juice Defender, which has helped tons in reducing battery drainage for almost every phone I've owned in the past 3 months, including the One S)
Yesterday, I had the phone charged at 100% when I awoke at 9am, with a little bit of use, by 12am, I had 63% remaining, same brightness, but with much much less use then the day prior. By the time 3pm hit, I was at about 30%, and by 5pm, it was drained to 18%, mostly on standby. By my estimation, that's 8 hours of usage, same brightness levels as the day before, using Juice Defender, but with much much less fiddling around with pretty much everything on the device.
I went ahead and disabled Juice Defender today to see if it would make a difference, and the battery actually got a bit worse, so I went ahead and re-enabled it and it immediately improved.
So I'm a bit perplexed, I haven't gotten any official updates, still running on the original stock build, but ultimately, I guess this is what is too be expected with an early build. Hopefully future updates WILL fix these issues and not hinder them more. Granted it's still much better then my HTC Amaze and Galaxy Nexus, which drained 4% the moment I took them off charger.

I played with all the settings and menus yesterday, and found something strange. In the "downloads" app, there was a "system update" download. That's quite normal since I downloaded and applied the OTA the day before. But it was referred as "ongoing", like it was still downloading a part of the OTA zip file AFTER I applied it (and rebooted a couple of times)
In phone settings, about, updates, it was also written "ongoing"
Now this is over (I don't know why and how) and the network usage seems back to normal. I'll try today to see how the battery drain is
Anyway, it's s strange the phone was still downloading the update zip file after having applied it. AND that it was downloading it on the 3G at a very lowered bitrate (like background) while I downloaded it on the wifi the day before
Anyway...
The battery life of my One S seems to have declined as well since the update. Before the update my battery lasted 2 days easily with moderate usage. Now I have 20-30% left at the end of the day from a full charge since 9am. This is with very light usage (mostly on standby from 9 to 5).
I did turn on best wifi performance recently so I just to turned that off to see if it helps but I really doubt that.
Hello guys, I have same problem, but my phone wasting energy on "phone radio" process, just look at screens below. I tried using stock Rom with last update, trickdroid, and now it happend on leedroid v.2 . Btw I changed 4 micro sim cards with several providers, but no result. I had a similar problem a few days ago, using Lee´s ROM.
I noticed that the drain had something to do with autosync. As soon as I turned off autosync (leaving mobile internet on) drainage went back to normal.
I still don´t know what caused this since I only had the google account, weather and dropbox installed.
Anyway, after doing a fresh install, the problems seem to have gone.
Of course I can´t be completely certain of it until some more days of testing/usage.
I also noticed quite a few problems since the latest OTA update.
Not only does the battery drain fast, the phone also feels extremely hot when browsing on 3G.
The phone does cool down pretty quickly when turning off 3G but it feels like I burned my hands

I also experienced weird things when connected to EDGE (2.75G).

I also contacted HTC about this issue and they recommended a hard reset.
Unfortunately this doesn't help at all, I still get these weird glitches
mattionline, can you get a logcat when the phone's doing this weird stuff? It looks like the Home button is being pressed repeatedly and if logcat confirms it then it's probably a hardware problem.

Do you need root to make a logcat ? My phone is not rooted and I'm not planning to do it. How can this be a hardware problem ? I never had this problem before. I'm sure that it's a software bug.

I just fixed someone else phone that had the exact same symptoms. In the end I narrowed down the problem to one of his weather apps.
He had a live wallpaper that reflected the current weather, weather on his lock screen and a beautiful widgets weather thing. I never did figure out exactly which one it was I just turned off all there and told him he was crazy.
I don't know if it's something "weather" related for you but it maybe it will help.

you don't need root, just enable usb debugging in development options and connect the phone to your pc. You need to have the android sdk installed.
Sup guys , some of you don't seem to realize that there are many reasons why your battery drains, what you might think is, "quickly". A few tips to keep minimal battery out put...1 keep brightness down, the screen itself sucks juice probably the most. 2 check your apps, some apps send and receive data and/or are kept running in the background. You might have to enable/disable setting on shove apps. 3 widgets, widgets like battery meters, CPU meters, things like this constantly refresh to keep real time info. That also eats up alot of juice . 4 Turn off WiFi or any other thing like that when your not using it. WiFi continually sucks nice. Lastly, invest in some app that will help you close apps. Basically, tweek everything you might think that the os can run without. The less your CPU has to do, the more juce you save.

But yeah, on the 1.0 version of Leedroid I had quite some drain, too.
When I turned off autosync it went back to normale. I only had my google account, dropbox (with syncing off) and the weather thingy set up and never figured out which one was resposible.
After installing Lee´s 2.0 ROM everything is fine.
I suppose there really is something wrong with the autosync and maybe with the weather stuff in particular.
My problem didn't go away with stopping auto sync, even without it, I had a constant data flow
Anyway, I rebooted the phone twice and the issue was gone.
It happened again a few days later, after the phone did shut down because of low battery. I put it on charger and turned it on, then, I noticed the 3G arrows were always on. After I unplugged it from the charger the battery went down in 10 hours. After a reboot, problem gone...
Since then, nothing...
And please note than when the problem is here, it's media and android os using a lot of data
I have been having one S problems too - I am on my second phone after the first one became reliably unresponsive every time I turned on mobile data. More relevant to this discussion, my battery died shockingly last night. Normally it drains at a few percent an hour when I am not using it (i.e. when asleep!) but I woke this morning to find it totally dead - that is 30% plus gone in 5 hours without it being in use.

I am hoping someone may notice what's going on with my device... I am at a loss. Attaching all screenshots and dump file from BetterBatteryStats (may need to open in Wordpad for the spacing work).
To summarize, my battery drain is very inconsistent. Some days it lasts a long time, 2-3 hrs of screen time, can stay in standby for over 2 days. And then some days it drains very quickly, like right now - it drops by 3% every time I basically turn on the screen to check e-mail/messages. I think we can all agree that 4 hrs of standby and 15 mins of screen usage should not use 50% of the battery.
I have tried two different units (swapped thinking my battery was faulty), and the issue persists - so I think it has to be something related to my software setup. I am running the AT&T LTE stock phone, 1.85 firmware. I have tried doing the full factory reset (clearing all settings/apps/storage), and cycling the battery.
Some folks have mentioned that my drain seems to begin when I hit an area with low/no signal (I take the subway to work in the morning), and then persists - as if something is trying to sync/connect somewhere, but can't... so it keeps looping and draining the battery.
My autosync is only on for Gmail, Google calendar (not contacts), and Weather (every 2 hrs only). Phone is not overly hot, battery is at 86 degrees right now. My brightness is at 40%.
If someone has any ideas, please share - I am at a loss, I don't know what to do... but battery life has got to be better than this, at least in terms of consistency.

Little to no signal is a battery killer.
Right, but the phone drains like crazy after the signal is regained. It doesn't drain much while there is no signal. Besides, what are people supposed to do when they lose signal? Restart the phone afterwards or lose all battery?
Also, some days it works just fine (and I still take subway to work on those days and lose signal) - so not consistent. I don't think it's simply the fact that no signal kills my battery in this case.

But OP is getting huge drops in the battery level when network signal is green (full signal strength); and also screen mostly off. Which is very odd . . .
Sounds like there are other folks experiencing this issue, related to signal drop in LTE (riding a subway, etc.):

Step 1: Remove sense.
Step 2: Proceed to experience the best battery life I have ever seen on an Android device.
If you do not want to remove sense then you need to take a very close look at your apps because something in the apps is responsible. I personally think its HTC sync or some other rediculous service that comes preinstalled on the phone. Something is trying to sync or communicate and is hanging.
Like I said, get rid of sense and save yourself the hassle. Nova Prime + AOKP = the best mobile operating system known to man.
I am a bit new when it comes to Android and all the various ROMs out there. To remove Sense, do I need to unlock the bootloader and install a custom ROM? Or can I install an alternate launcher (like Nova Prime)?

To remove sense you'll need to install a custom ROM such as AOKP or cm9. Those will remove sense. You can find AOKP in the general section under the title "AOKP lives!!" and cm9 under developement. They both have flaws such as the camcorder not working, but considering the flaws that sense has out of the box, you're much better off in my opinion. cm9 and AOKP will get infinitely better in the coming weeks as they iron out the bugs. Sense is disgusting bloatware that is piled on top of stock android. It takes a ton of resources and makes even the simplest tasks a chore. Once you go to an AOSP ROM I don't think you'll ever go back. I can multi task away for hours and come back to another app that wasn't closed out of memory. Try that with sense.
To install a ROM you'll need to:
Root
unlock bootloader
Install a custom recovery
Backup your entire ROM with that recovery
Flash whatever you want
All of the directions of how to do this are in the dev section. Let me know if you have any questions.
Installing a AOSP ROM (such as CM9 and AOKP) will completely "desense" your phone.
Installing a ROM based on stock (like all of the CleanROMs) will get rid of most of the HTC stuff but Sense will still be there.

Seriously just go check it out in the dev section. If you are unsure or have any questions at all come back here and let me know. I can walk you through all of it. Don't be afraid of ruining your device or anything like that. This stuff is all one click these days and isn't bad at all. I can literally walk you through every step if needed. Just check it out yourself though, I bet you'll be fine

FYI, the root process failed for me 2 times before it took. Just keep trying and it will go. Once you are rooted, you'll never have to plug your phone into a computer again. You can do anything from the device, no questions asked.

Here is what I'd do before installing custom ROMs etc. (Not that I am discouraging you against that but, if your device is indeed faulty then unlocking the bootloader will void your warranty and HTC may not replace/fix it.) And, you'd have wasted countless hours trying to fix the issue with software that was hardware to begin with.
1. Run the battery test *#*#3424#*#*, press 'Accept', Go to More and run 'Battery Test'. Follow instructions in there. If the battery isn't faulty i.e. after one hour the battery level is still greater than 85% (The function test shows a different number) your battery is fine. Else, ask HTC to fix it.
2. If your phone passes the battery test; turn on 'Airplane mode' when you get into an area with spotty signal. This should address your suspicion regarding that.
3. Display: display seems to be draining the most battery - doesn't mean it actual does but, at least the phone seems to think it is. Try reducing brightness to around 20% for a day - I know it is too dim but, it will eliminate that possibility.
4. If you have facebook installed - turn off all syncing. Especially the HTC sense social plugin always tries to update it from facebook.
Based on the screenshots, it seems that the battery drains very quickly when you have the screen on, even with good signal strength.
Lastly, as an alternative to point 2 above, turn on airplane mode for 1 hour and turn off sync, remove all widgets from home screen(s) and just use the phone on wifi with stock browser - see if it drops as quickly or not.
Having gone through it, I understand how frustrating this is. In the end, I rooted and completely desensed my phone (only keeping essentials - basically recreating clean rom). I do not use Auto Sync but manually engage it every few hours to update everything. And, keep the brightness to 30% most of the time.

2. I will try doing airplane mode before subway rides going forward, will see if that helps.
3. Something is funky with the way the battery meter app is measuring this. Basically the battery doesn't move - and then when I unlock the phone, it drops like 3%. So my suspicion is that I'm losing battery, it just doesn't get updated until I fire up the screen.
4. Yep, all syncing is turned off. I only have Gmail/Gcalendar syncing now.
I've been playing around with the phone(s) earlier as well - keeping it in airplane mode and just watching movies/etc. makes it last forever. It really does seem to be something with the signal and perhaps something in Sense.
Have you tried CleanRom? I do like the visuals in Sense, would be sad to go to bone-stock ICS... but battery is more important.

I experience the same thing. After my subway commute and after I regain signal, battery doesn't drop until a couple of seconds after o turn on my screen, but it drops like 3%.

I was able to go from stock 1.85, to sick-sense ROM in a matter of minutes yesterday. I was nervous at first even though I know what I was doing, although all was good after following the instructions given on each step of the process. I haven't really bricked a phone before because this was my first smartphone ever, But I believe that the worse thing that can happen is soft bricking your phone, which can be resolved by RUU. I hope this helps you out.
Regarding OP, I had MUCH MUCH more battery life compared to bone stock. I used to get 3 hrs screen on time with 20% brightness, now Im at 4-5 on 50% under similar usage. One last thing to note; LTE, Auto sync, GPS, and low reception, are the most battery eating thing on the phone assuming you don't have rouge apps (wakelocks).

GPS has no affect on battery life unless it is being actually used. Its not going to drain battery just by being enabled. Auto sync has minimal impact on battery as well, unless you are getting 5 emails every 1 minute. Push is always more battery friendly than pull. (unless there is heavy traffic)
About the low reception thing. While it does indeed affect battery life when the phone is constantly looking for service, it is not as bad as you would think. I sit in an area at my work that has about 1 bar of service. The phone will go from 1-0 bars to searching, about every 5 minutes or so ALL day long for 8 hours. To see the impact this had on my battery life, I did some experimenting. I basically ran my phone in airplane mode for 3 days and then compared and averaged the results over 3 days of normal use with the phone having bad service.
I lost 8% more over an 8 hour work day.

No, I didn't try clean ROM. But, I took the change log from one of the clean ROMs and deleted most of the apps that can be safely deleted. So, I do sort of have a clean rom and it works fine so far - in terms of battery life. When I used to boot with stock rom, I used to have 150 - 170 mb free ram. With the clean up that I performed - now, free RAM is 270 - 300 mb after a reboot.
Try disabling LTE and see how your battery does.
Click on mobile network settings, and choose gsm/hspa auto.

I'm a first time poster looking for a little help. I've had my Verizon SIII for about a week now and almost everything about the phone I have loved with the exception of the battery life. Given the 2100mah battery I was expecting much more. I tend to be a fairly light user throughout the day at work, I have the screen brightness turned down, all data is off, and I really only am using it for texting, maybe a little bit of gaming. I have found that if I unplug at about 8am by about 6 or 7pm the battery will be nearly completely drained.
Noticing that this seemed to be a fairly common problem I started doing some research to determine the source of this. First, by looking at the battery stats I observed the same problem that many others observe, a heavy drain in standby mode.

So going off of this I started trying to determine the cause of this drain in standby mode. I should also mention that at times the phone does seem to get warm in the bottom left region of the back of the phone. I had read one tutorial explaining about wakelocks so I decided to check that out. I downloaded GSam Battery and CPU Spy to see if something was preventing my phone from entering standby mode properly. However my phone was entering deep sleep as shown below, so this confused me a bit. But clearly there is some issue visible in the standby mode of my phone, sometimes the battery will drain ridiculously fast (as high as 1% every 5 - 10 minutes). And keep in mind that this is while virtually everything, data included, is disabled. So that eliminates the possibility of it simply having to search for a signal in a weak area.

Basically I'm having a tough time getting to the root cause of this problem. I feel like there's some little software issue in there that is draining it. But I've been pretty smart about the apps that I've downloaded, I've stuck with only very common and popular ones. So would anybody have any clue to how I could identify and address the source of my battery drain?

I tend to be a fairly light user throughout the day at work, I have the screen brightness turned down, all data is off, and I really only am using it for texting, maybe a little bit of gaming. I have found that if I unplug at about 8am by about 6 or 7pm the battery will be nearly completely drained.
Noticing that this seemed to be a fairly common problem I started doing some research to determine the source of this. First, by looking at the battery stats I observed the same problem that many others observe, a heavy drain in standby mode.

So going off of this I started trying to determine the cause of this drain in standby mode. I should also mention that at times the phone does seem to get warm in the bottom left region of the back of the phone. I had read one tutorial explaining about wakelocks so I decided to check that out. I downloaded GSam Battery and CPU Spy to see if something was preventing my phone from entering standby mode properly. However my phone was entering deep sleep as shown below, so this confused me a bit. But clearly there is some issue visible in the standby mode of my phone, sometimes the battery will drain ridiculously fast (as high as 1% every 5 - 10 minutes). And keep in mind that this is while virtually everything, data included, is disabled. So that eliminates the possibility of it simply having to search for a signal in a weak area.

Basically I'm having a tough time getting to the root cause of this problem. I feel like there's some little software issue in there that is draining it. But I've been pretty smart about the apps that I've downloaded, I've stuck with only very common and popular ones. So would anybody have any clue to how I could identify and address the source of my battery drain?

Download and try Watchdog Lite. It's a really good monitor for finding out which apps are acting up.
This doesn't exactly answer your question, but can help with your problem. There are programs that can help to drastically improve battery life by turning off data (3g\4g) while the screen is off. This can double your battery life or more, especially for lite/moderate users. Most of these programs work by turning on the data 1 minute out of every 15 the screen is off. That way you still get email, and notifications. You still get txt and phone real time, as they do not rely on data. When you turn the screen on data is turned on, when you actually would want to use it. Especially in 4g areas this really saves battery, as 4g is a battery hog.
Battery Defender is my favorite. I feel like I should be paid for this advertisement...
Do you have BATTERY SAVER option ENABLED in settings? That makes a huge difference for me.
It sounds like you are still stock, but I used the Root66 image and after that started having huge battery drain. I did a factory reset to no avail, so then moved to Synergy Rom. Since then, I've had outstanding battery life! not sure if you were thinking about going this route, but it has worked for me. Synergy is debloated so I assumed Verizon crap to be the culprit.
The images I saw were all at 100% battery. Those are not very helpful. A shot of your battery stats at the end of the day would be a lot more useful.
Please note that Cell Standby reports incorrectly at the moment on the S3. Unless you do the fix linked above, it will nearly always be at the top, but it does not actually drain that much battery, it is simply a reporting issue.

Is there a thread that addresses this or a quick fix? Any suggestions? I've dropped 38% in an hour with 20 minutes screen time. It's been great for the week leading up to today. I've already powered down the phone. I could stop Google Now, but this hasn't been an issue all week. Not sure why it randomly would start one now. Thoughts? All help appreciated.
Haven't logged in in a few years but account is behaving as of it's a new one. I used the original Galaxy Tab 10.5 boards frequently.

I would think you have a app thats constantly running looking for GPS or syncing data.
Thats with just over 2 hours screen on time and GPS being used constantly for 20 min on my run.
Also if your in poor signal area or roaming a lot you'll burn through battery.
Yeah. I'm not sure what's going on. I decided to clear the cache for Google Now. I also turned the phone off and am powering it to 100%. Once it reaches a full charge, I am going to remove the battery, hoping for some kind of reset. I'll then let it fully load for a few minutes before checking on it.
Like I said, it was working perfectly for over a week, but for some reason, it went into battery drain freefall mode. I thought it was aggressively falling upon waking this morning because it had 98% before I went to bed last night and when I looked at it after using it for an hour this morning, it was around 60ish%. I fast-charged it back to 98% before heading out the door for an appointment and turned on bluetooth so that I could listen to music in my vehicle. When I got out of my appointment an hour later, it was back down in the 60s and I was totally confused. The music had been shut off and the screen was not on. The back of the phone felt pretty warm too.
I agree. Some process must be running endlessly. When I had this issue with a G2, I was able to pinpoint it as having something to do with Google Play Music and was able to fix that by altering some settings. In this case, it looks like the culprit is either Google Now and / or Android, but as I said before, it doesn't make sense to me that it would start happening out of the blue like this when it wasn't occurring before. Usually screen is (understandably) my biggest battery drain. I don't recall seeing Android responsible for over 20% like that before, outperforming the screen that much in the battery drainage department.
I'll report back once it is fully charged and I get a feel for whether the issue went away.

Way-too-early impressions are that it is back to normal. I have no idea what happened. I read in the Battery Life thread a little bit ago that some were suspecting that flip cases have caused some issues. That might be relevant here as I do have a flip case even though it didn't give me any problems. I was, however, messing around with it last night because I purchased a Scosche Magic Mount and was trying to determine where to install the large plate only to discover that it didn't fit properly behind the flip case backing. This fiddling caused me to pull the battery and take the case off, among other things. I'm wondering whether the case was properly re-installed.
Another possibility is that I use UCCW for a Google Now widget and while it has worked perfectly with my previous two phones, with the Note Edge, it doesn't appear to activate the Google Now screen even though it acts as if it is listening for you. Even though I terminated Google Now when that happened this morning, I guess it could have played some kind of role.

So far, I have lost 4% in 20 minutes. While that's not "great," that's about where I was. I don't use powersaving mode and use my device pretty moderately. I can usually get through most of the day without a charge.
I have all the bells and whistles turned off, uninstalled a ton of bloatware via ADB commands, and everything's been fine - great battery life. But then I charged up to 100% last night and when I awoke it was at 80%, then by 12 noon i was at 64% and this was with battery saver turned on. I checked battery usage and nothing was amiss. I don't get it, how is my battery draining so fast when I'm not even using it? There wasn't any firmware update, so I'm at a loss as to what the issue is.
So I reset the phone and set it up again, charged it back to 100%, then lost 4% in 90 minutes without even touching it. I'm guessing it's a hardware/battery problem.
Anyone else having this issue?
Try temporarily disabling Google play Services.
Google backup Transport and Playstore are dependencies of it. Backup Transport can do this. Normally I keep Play Services disabled unless I need it.

Well still had huge battery drain with play services disabled. I factory reset yet again, removed all the bloatware I could, yet a charge to 100% is down to 94% after 2 hours of just sitting on table. I got a lemon. This is a straight talk pre-pay phone, so I'm not sure what to do next.

Disabling Google play Services may not fully stop the Backup Transport drain....
You need to find the apps causing the power drain, this is common on Samsung's.
Disable adaptive battery and the other power management junk*.
Factory resets are generally worthless; you need to find the root causes!!!
Disable only apps that are proven power hogs or are just to terrible to look at like Digital Wellbeing. If you disable a service needed by an app it may constantly keep polling for it. Use discression on what is removed.
Install a logging firewall if you can or otherwise see what apps are using bandwidth. Kill by altering their settings ie no background data/battery.
All cloud apps will likely be hogs. Social media apps shouldn't be on the device. Activate Developer options and use its tools. Use the tools in Device Care.
Turn off all Google, Samsung and carrier feedback. Android 12 may give tracking tools as well, I don't run anything higher than 10.

I have no idea what im looking at with that app. I'm losing 2% battery per hour overnight with it sitting on my nightstand. The only things i see being used is "google play store" , " play services". "netd" & weather. I don't see anything out of the ordinary.
I did a factory reset yesterday, removed all the bloat (disabled or uninstalled) everything not needed that the phone would let me. I used ADB to set RAM + to zero only. This drain started 2 days ago and there's been no updates so I'm at a loss & actually think its a hardware problem. Phone is only 3 weeks old. I contacted Straight talk and they said I have send phone in and they'll send me a used one once they get it. I'm pissed.
I hope you are aware of the risks with uninstalling "bloatware" with ADB. This may result in problems. Return the phone to default (factory reset) to get all back and only remove stuff you can without using ADB.

You can temporarily screw up the OS but nothing that can't be reversed it with a factory data reset, which I did. Anyway, it was fine. Let's just say I may have dropped it from waist height and that's when this battery drain came up. I have it in a UAG case and a glass screen protector (I've dropped my iPhone much worse about 50 times and never had an issue). The phone and the case are in mint condition, it shouldn't be malfunctioning from a 3 foot fall on a sheet vinyl floor with a case on it. But it is. Maybe its just my unit, but this is a fragile phone.
If you're in an area with a poor cell signal, your smartphone will try to connect to the nearest cell tower and drain your battery quickly. I thought there was an issue with my Pixel 6 battery but after buying an iPhone 13, I later found out that poor cell signal does drain your battery rather quickly.
Try enabling WiFi Calling and choose WiFi as your preference, then enable Airplane Mode with just WiFi turned on. This is what I do when I'm at home and then turn off Airplane mode when I'm out and about (obviously).

That's not true itself. I'm in a poor cell area and normally only see 4% drain overnight with phones over the years. This is the amount I expect, no more. If any phone ever sees 10% or more overnight then it has a problem either software or hardware.

I've seen this with my last Samsung but 1-3 reboots in a row always fixes it for a week or two. Normally only needs 1 reboot a week. Its in a system installed app or code.
However, battery drains can be caused by literally anything lol. Any app can cause it. Any system app can cause it. Even the OS can cause it. It could be in anything technically.
Batteries can go bad but you'd likely see something else happening if the battery was going bad or if the fall did it. I really don't think that's the issue here but suppose if it is then you have an odd situation where the battery drains from 100% to 0% smoothly.

No, it was dropped from 3 feet onto a sheet vinyl floor, no visible damage but that's when it started. Something internally got messed up. It took a month but Straight Talk sent me a new A53, and no battery drain at all now. Straight Talk is another issue...smh

Really though a phone replacement doesn't mean it wasn't software. I'm an app developer and can't even go simply based on that.
Is it possible to have a smoothly draining battery from a drop? Probably in some rare weirdly odd corner of the universe lol. Maybe you did find the corner.
At least its solved anyway. That's really all that counts.

Yeah, the small drop was definitely the issue; Wi-Fi was not connecting or not staying connected. It wasn't software, I reset the device and same issue. It must've popped Wi-Fi antenna loose or caused a short somewhere. New phone and now I lose 1 - 2% overnight. Now to unlock it from straight Talk.
