I realize there are several threads about battery life, and I apologize if this has already been posted, but I'm in full-on battery drain mode right now and am having a crisis. Is there a thread that addresses this or a quick fix? Any suggestions? I've dropped 38% in an hour with 20 minutes screen time. It's been great for the week leading up to today. I've already powered down the phone. I could stop Google Now, but this hasn't been an issue all week. Not sure why it randomly would start one now. Thoughts? All help appreciated.
Haven't logged in in a few years but account is behaving as of it's a new one. I used the original Galaxy Tab 10.5 boards frequently.

I would think you have a app thats constantly running looking for GPS or syncing data.
Thats with just over 2 hours screen on time and GPS being used constantly for 20 min on my run.
Also if your in poor signal area or roaming a lot you'll burn through battery.

Once it reaches a full charge, I am going to remove the battery, hoping for some kind of reset. I'll then let it fully load for a few minutes before checking on it.
Like I said, it was working perfectly for over a week, but for some reason, it went into battery drain freefall mode. I thought it was aggressively falling upon waking this morning because it had 98% before I went to bed last night and when I looked at it after using it for an hour this morning, it was around 60ish%. I fast-charged it back to 98% before heading out the door for an appointment and turned on bluetooth so that I could listen to music in my vehicle. When I got out of my appointment an hour later, it was back down in the 60s and I was totally confused. The music had been shut off and the screen was not on. The back of the phone felt pretty warm too.
I agree. Some process must be running endlessly. When I had this issue with a G2, I was able to pinpoint it as having something to do with Google Play Music and was able to fix that by altering some settings. In this case, it looks like the culprit is either Google Now and / or Android, but as I said before, it doesn't make sense to me that it would start happening out of the blue like this when it wasn't occurring before. Usually screen is (understandably) my biggest battery drain. I don't recall seeing Android responsible for over 20% like that before, outperforming the screen that much in the battery drainage department.
I'll report back once it is fully charged and I get a feel for whether the issue went away.

Way-too-early impressions are that it is back to normal. I have no idea what happened. I read in the Battery Life thread a little bit ago that some were suspecting that flip cases have caused some issues. That might be relevant here as I do have a flip case even though it didn't give me any problems. I was, however, messing around with it last night because I purchased a Scosche Magic Mount and was trying to determine where to install the large plate only to discover that it didn't fit properly behind the flip case backing. This fiddling caused me to pull the battery and take the case off, among other things. I'm wondering whether the case was properly re-installed.
Another possibility is that I use UCCW for a Google Now widget and while it has worked perfectly with my previous two phones, with the Note Edge, it doesn't appear to activate the Google Now screen even though it acts as if it is listening for you. Even though I terminated Google Now when that happened this morning, I guess it could have played some kind of role.

So far, I have lost 4% in 20 minutes. While that's not "great," that's about where I was. I don't use powersaving mode and use my device pretty moderately. I can usually get through most of the day without a charge.

I've had my nexus s (9020a) since late November (bought it used, in execellent condition.) While battery life was never awesome, it was at least bearable - until last week. I'm now unable to get more than 6 hours on a battery with super-minimal usage. For instance, today, as of right now, I have 5h 58m 57s (at 7% battery left) - the top "user" being the display (32%) with a "time on" of 17m 30s. Even when I power the phone completely off (not the screen, literally powering off) - say for a half hour or so - when I power it back on I lose substantial amount of battery.
Some other details:
Currently running stock 2.3.6 rom (since yesterday), but rooted.
Previously was running stock ICS (flashed the tmobile 2.3.6 ota, then ics, then the att radio) - was fine for the last 2 months
Tried brand new battery (not a samsung, but Anker) - no difference
Tried several different charges, and charging via computer
Have wiped battery stats several times (and done complete resets/formats of everything in between swapping roms)
Phone used to always top out at 95% when charging - but now will go up to 100%
This behavior started up when I was on vacation - a few hours after landing in SLC, UT. I do recall a sudden crash / reboot of the phone before the problems started - but I have gotten random reboots in the past. Was running ICS at the time. I thought maybe a poor signal was to blame, but again, the battery would drain even when the phone was powered off (or in airplane mode.)
I'm not sure what else I can/should do - short of calling Samsung. I'd think if it were a hardware issue, it would fail to charge completely. Does anyone have any other ideas or suggestions?

Sounds like something external is draining the battery. I've seen many cases with a magnet on them drain the battery very quickly, or possibly excessive heat. If not i would say it's some kind of hardware problem.
Does not sound like android chewing it up.

I don't have a case on it - just a screen protector. The battery does tend to run in the mid 90s fahrenheit (according to battery status apps.. though I think I have seen it as high as the low 100s (maybe 102?) - but I figured that was normal.
Another weird behavior I should mention: sometimes when I power off and on while charging, it will cause the battery percentage to jump considerably. Right now, two consecutive on-off-on cycles (within the span of 3 minutes) caused the battery percentage to jump from 36% to 44% to 57%.
Heats normal. Not sure what it could be to be honest. Maybe grab a can of compressed air and spray around the back, maybe dust causing a short or something.

Sent it back to Samsung for "repair". As I suspected, all they incompetently did was re-flash 2.3.4 and say "passed all functional testing". Phone is still hosed and completely useless as-is.
(Fully charged, overnight - less than 8 hours - went down to 17%, with no apps running, no google accounts, no sync, no background anything, no screen time, no wifi, in airplane mode)
Samsung really is hopeless. Going to try again with them? Whatever you decide, best of luck. Hope it works out for you.

Trying again, but not optimistic. I talked to about 4 total "customer support" people today.. at least got them to "upgrade" me to 2-day shipping for sending back and forth instead of the normal ups ground.
It is so foreign to me - coming from Apple where, under warranty, they'll pretty much swap problematic devices out for new ones _in store_ on a dime. I pretty much begged Samsung to just send me a refurb unit to replace it with but they said thats "not their policy."

I don't have it with me (send it back for round number two) but I am fairly certain that is around what it was reading.
The thing would even burn through battery when powered off, if the battery was still left in. Taking the battery out = no drop. It has to be something hardware.

I've got an HTC One S since a few weeks (got it with the 1.57 FW I think). It's a stock one, not from a carrier. No branding.
The battery life was great, 2 to 3 days with normal use.
But yesterday evening I proceeded to the OTA update and since then, trouble began
Battery life is much, much lower. After 12 hours standing on my desk in the office, I got 10% remaining!
Anytime I switch the screen ON, I see there is some data being sent (or received) because the "arrows" are full. If I check in system panel lite, there's always 1 or 2 kb/s of traffic.
Also, the phone is a bit warm, quite often.
Has anyone else noticed this? That's rather annoying :/
Could be faulty? I have the same phone with no carrier or branding and not had any problems at all.

I have to say, this phone, at least mines, seems to have a pretty bi polar battery. It's got a case of ADHD.
For example, just the other day, I had the phone fully charged when I awoke at 9am, after playing Temple Run, surfing the web, using GPS, streaming and listening to music, playing more Temple Run, fiddling around with the OS, checking emails, sending texts, talking on the phone a bit, downloading apps, with about 25-30% brightness, I ended up with 18% battery remaining after a good 11 hours of very heavy use. I was quite pleased, considering the inordinate amount of usage I had with the phone all day.
(BTW, I use Juice Defender, which has helped tons in reducing battery drainage for almost every phone I've owned in the past 3 months, including the One S)
Yesterday, I had the phone charged at 100% when I awoke at 9am, with a little bit of use, by 12am, I had 63% remaining, same brightness, but with much much less use then the day prior. By the time 3pm hit, I was at about 30%, and by 5pm, it was drained to 18%, mostly on standby. By my estimation, that's 8 hours of usage, same brightness levels as the day before, using Juice Defender, but with much much less fiddling around with pretty much everything on the device.
I went ahead and disabled Juice Defender today to see if it would make a difference, and the battery actually got a bit worse, so I went ahead and re-enabled it and it immediately improved.
So I'm a bit perplexed, I haven't gotten any official updates, still running on the original stock build, but ultimately, I guess this is what is too be expected with an early build. Hopefully future updates WILL fix these issues and not hinder them more. Granted it's still much better then my HTC Amaze and Galaxy Nexus, which drained 4% the moment I took them off charger.

I played with all the settings and menus yesterday, and found something strange. In the "downloads" app, there was a "system update" download. That's quite normal since I downloaded and applied the OTA the day before. But it was referred as "ongoing", like it was still downloading a part of the OTA zip file AFTER I applied it (and rebooted a couple of times)
In phone settings, about, updates, it was also written "ongoing"
Now this is over (I don't know why and how) and the network usage seems back to normal. I'll try today to see how the battery drain is
Anyway, it's s strange the phone was still downloading the update zip file after having applied it. AND that it was downloading it on the 3G at a very lowered bitrate (like background) while I downloaded it on the wifi the day before
Anyway...
The battery life of my One S seems to have declined as well since the update. Before the update my battery lasted 2 days easily with moderate usage. Now I have 20-30% left at the end of the day from a full charge since 9am. This is with very light usage (mostly on standby from 9 to 5).
I did turn on best wifi performance recently so I just to turned that off to see if it helps but I really doubt that.

I had a similar problem a few days ago, using Lee´s ROM.
I noticed that the drain had something to do with autosync. As soon as I turned off autosync (leaving mobile internet on) drainage went back to normal.
I still don´t know what caused this since I only had the google account, weather and dropbox installed.
Anyway, after doing a fresh install, the problems seem to have gone.
Of course I can´t be completely certain of it until some more days of testing/usage.
I also noticed quite a few problems since the latest OTA update.
Not only does the battery drain fast, the phone also feels extremely hot when browsing on 3G.
The phone does cool down pretty quickly when turning off 3G but it feels like I burned my hands

mattionline, can you get a logcat when the phone's doing this weird stuff? It looks like the Home button is being pressed repeatedly and if logcat confirms it then it's probably a hardware problem.

Do you need root to make a logcat ? My phone is not rooted and I'm not planning to do it. How can this be a hardware problem ? I never had this problem before. I'm sure that it's a software bug.

I just fixed someone else phone that had the exact same symptoms. In the end I narrowed down the problem to one of his weather apps.
He had a live wallpaper that reflected the current weather, weather on his lock screen and a beautiful widgets weather thing. I never did figure out exactly which one it was I just turned off all there and told him he was crazy.
I don't know if it's something "weather" related for you but it maybe it will help.

you don't need root, just enable usb debugging in development options and connect the phone to your pc. You need to have the android sdk installed.
Sup guys , some of you don't seem to realize that there are many reasons why your battery drains, what you might think is, "quickly". A few tips to keep minimal battery out put...1 keep brightness down, the screen itself sucks juice probably the most. 2 check your apps, some apps send and receive data and/or are kept running in the background. You might have to enable/disable setting on shove apps. 3 widgets, widgets like battery meters, CPU meters, things like this constantly refresh to keep real time info. That also eats up alot of juice . 4 Turn off WiFi or any other thing like that when your not using it. WiFi continually sucks nice. Lastly, invest in some app that will help you close apps. Basically, tweek everything you might think that the os can run without. The less your CPU has to do, the more juce you save.

But yeah, on the 1.0 version of Leedroid I had quite some drain, too.
When I turned off autosync it went back to normale. I only had my google account, dropbox (with syncing off) and the weather thingy set up and never figured out which one was resposible.
After installing Lee´s 2.0 ROM everything is fine.
I suppose there really is something wrong with the autosync and maybe with the weather stuff in particular.
My problem didn't go away with stopping auto sync, even without it, I had a constant data flow
Anyway, I rebooted the phone twice and the issue was gone.
It happened again a few days later, after the phone did shut down because of low battery. I put it on charger and turned it on, then, I noticed the 3G arrows were always on. After I unplugged it from the charger the battery went down in 10 hours. After a reboot, problem gone...
Since then, nothing...
And please note than when the problem is here, it's media and android os using a lot of data
I have been having one S problems too - I am on my second phone after the first one became reliably unresponsive every time I turned on mobile data. More relevant to this discussion, my battery died shockingly last night. Normally it drains at a few percent an hour when I am not using it (i.e. when asleep!) but I woke this morning to find it totally dead - that is 30% plus gone in 5 hours without it being in use.

One month ago I flashed Resurrection remix ROM with no problem and I used it for many weeks.
Something around 3-4 days ago I let it switch off to make a battery cycle and I didn't touch it until the next morning. When I put it on charge, and after waiting for 30 mins, I tried to turn it on with no success. I tried to connect it to my power bank, which has LEDs to verify that is charging, and I discovered that that wasn't happening.
So I took off the back cover and tried to check, moving pieces, if there was any hardware problem. After that the phone finally turned on and was able to charge but since than I have some serious problems:
-while in standby it rapes the battery, in 30 minutes consumed 11% of it with no apps on; with screen on instead it's the opposite, I watched kung fu panda 3 at 100% and at the end of the film (1h 20mins) it was at 86%
-when I go to sleep if I don't keep it attached to a power source in the morning I find it switched off, and when I turn it on I discover it has still around 20-30%
Sorry for the long post but i wanted to explain in more details I could the situation I have.
Does someone of you know what the heck is going on with my N5? What can I do to fix this thing?

Is your battery life when you use your phone your only problem, no other things you notice that aren't what they always have been? If not, probably your battery is dying. Replacing your battery will most likely fix your problems.
Everything works fine except the things that concern battery inputs or i/o of the phone. Is there a way to check if it's actually the battery the only problem?
I'd rather avoid the situation where i buy a new battery unit and find out the system is joking me someway.
I was wondering, is it possible that those problems are given by an accidental bad settings in Kernel Adiutor?

Well if you want to check it on the software side, you could take a backup of your current setup, store your important files and the backup on a PC and flash a factory image. Then you can check and test if you have the same problems on a clean setup. It could indeed be wrong kernel settings but to me it sounds like your battery is just dying. That's not weird if you take a look at the release date of this phone.

I've been getting a Strange issue with my OPO. Usually during the day I have to leave my phone in a desk drawer while I'm off elsewhere. Usually I put airplane mode on, or disable data to save battery but not always. 9 days out of 10, the phone is fully charged except for some usage on the way in (web browsing) so its down to about 90% when I get to work.
Sometimes when I pick it up for lunch, it's displaying the Oneplus logo screen you get on turning it on, then it proceeds to boot up. The phone is also very hot. When it does boot up, the battery is drained down to 2-3%! Basically the battery graph has a huge gap in it (see below) and I can't determine what's been happening in the meantime.
What's very strange is, I pick the phone up as it's starting, then it boots OK and works fine. I don't know what it's been getting up to in the drawer, boot looping or sitting at the start up screen, but as soon as I interact with it, it stops.
I was running oxygen os 2? I think when i stated getting this, now on Sultans CM13 and unfortunately it happened again yesterday. It doesn't happen very often, but annoying when it does!
I took screenshots yesterday after it happened, I'll attatch later. Basically there's normal battery drain until I get to work, then a huge gap, then back on and the battery is at 2%. I don't know of any way to see what was going on in that blackout period. Google play services seems to be wide awake all the time I'm using it, and it seems to go off as soon as I get to work. I will check early on today.
Does anybody have any clue what's going on? Is there something I can look at or install and try and diagnose what's happening? It's a weird one for me!

This happened when you didn't put it in airplane mode? If so, that might just be your issue if you're leaving the phone in a drawer all day. The days I spend working in a building where I don't get cell service, I notice a significant battery drain. This is an Android issue, best to my knowledge. When there's little to no service, the phone spends an inordinate amount of energy trying to find better service. Similarly, I once tried an aluminum bumper style case for my phone and found significant battery drain due to the case blocking cell service a fair amount.
If, however, this happened after turning airplane mode on, I don't know what to tell you... That's very strange behavior. Either way, if you're not using your phone all day, you might as well be turning it off to save the battery.

I can do yeah I suppose, but most of the time data turned off drains very little and that's much easier to out back on. Plus I see who's been trying to call me.
I wondered if it was something trying to ping the network, google play services seems to go into overdrive just before it restarts or the battery chart has no data (awake for 4 hours), but I thought it should be aware of being in flight mode no?

Hello all, so the original battery on my Google pixel, almost 3 years old, went to complete hell. It turns off in about a minute once unplugged, despite 100% battery life. So I went and replaced it with two Amazon bought batteries. The first one (definitely not OEM) had the same issue but my pixel would at least last about 10 minutes of regular use, unplugged, before shutting down. So I thought it might be the battery but the second one has the exact same issue. The second one at least looked like OEM with the exterior but since it came from Amazon, it's not 100% certain.
The problem is that the phone charges very fast, like 100% in less than 15 minutes and then discharges 10-20% in just a few minutes. If I last below 70% that would be out of the ordinary.
Is it possible that it's not a battery issue but maybe a different issue? A friendly person on another forum suggested that my core or graphics IC is overheating, attempting to throttle down; and then just shutting down when it looses the battle. Which makes absolute sense since the phone mostly shuts down when I'm playing games on my phone and usually turns off just under 80%.
I also found out that a recent google play store version was found to be the culprit for the extensive battery loss for other folks. Could this also be reason?
Are there any tests I could do to further determine the actual cause?

Two ideas:
- Deactivate Play Store app in Settings -> Apps & Notifications -> All -> Play Store -> Deactivate
- To rule out a damaged third party app as a cause for the battery drain (which actually is quite unlikely in your case), you can reboot into safe mode. For that, long-press the power button and then long-press 'shut down', confirm with OK. At the reboot, all non-system apps are freezed. Then you can check if the battery behaves differently.
Did you try charging your phone for about two hours longer, even if it says it is already at 100%? Maybe just the battery percentage measurement system is somehow damaged.
But you already tried that I guess. So maybe somebody else got another tip for you.
do you try flashing stock image? maybe the battery cache is in trouble
Similar to OP, my Pixel XL had started to have some odd issues beginning almost a year ago. It got REALLY bad in just the last six weeks or so when it would shut down at relatively respectable battery percentages (something like 23% - 57%, randomly).
- Deactivate Play Store app in Settings -> Apps & Notifications -> All -> Play Store -> Deactivate
- To rule out a damaged third party app as a cause for the battery drain (which actually is quite unlikely in your case), you can reboot into safe mode. For that, long-press the power button and then long-press 'shut down', confirm with OK. At the reboot, all non-system apps are freezed. Then you can check if the battery behaves differently.

When I deactivated ("Disabled" in my settings), there was no change in behavior. In fact, I had forgot I did that until giving things about a week and had forgotten when the phone behaved the same way, LOL (I just now re-enabled it).
I also tried the Safe Mode (which I had not previously known about - thanks!), and the phone still died out pretty quickly from a "full" charge.

I had also done this several times. The really odd thing is many times I will have it on the charger all night or for several hours, and when I take it off it is only at a very low percentage - from 1% to 16%. !!! Of course more often than not it does get to a higher percentage.

Thanks, gonzakennyn - I have not done a "stock" image, but have factory reset the phone, with no joy. This was actually one of the things I did months ago even before it got really bad, because I wondered if maybe the battery cache or something at the kernel level had deeper issues.
Hopefully the OP might have had better luck or found something...
All these complaints sound like power supply issues.
Use the phone while it's in the charger, and there's no overheating/throttling/shutdown, right?

Unfortunately, I did not find a solution. After replacing the battery twice I pretty much resigned to my fate. I'm going to hold out until Pixel 4 comes out.
Once fully charged, I could use my phone for browsing or watching videos for about an hour before I get to around 30-40%. Then I could leave it unplugged all night and wake up to my battery at 1%. It actually stays that way for a bit.
However, if I use my phone to play any games, I could only use it unplugged for about 10 minutes. My phone will power down without fail at 80% or below only when I play games. Weird thing is, whenever I power it back up, my phone will be 1% but despite that it could last quite a while.
As post-mortem mentioned, I could use my phone while charging without issues so maybe it is a power supply issue, in which case, I have no idea what I could do.
When it's not plugged in to a charger, the only power supply is the battery. Hence, I feel that even your "new" battery is not new.
So a little update all. I updated my phone to the latest Android 10 patch and the battery life has gotten significantly better. It's still not enough to last all day but it can last probably 6-8 hours with minimal use. If I use it constantly, it might last two hours.
I am no longer tethered to my charger when playing games, which is really good news and all the prior issues with the phone shutting down ~80% is gone.
Perhaps the previous Android patches contained faulty code?
I would do fresh install and see if problem resolves. Fresh install fixes all sorts of software issues.
So my battery woes aren't as bad as yours but I did get to the point where I had the battery replaced. I went to uBreakiFix and I have no idea what battery they put in but the bottom line is a brand new battery didn't help much. I got a little better battery life but not as much as I had hoped. I'm assuming that it's either due to the apps I have installed and my usage or the phone is getting old and something is drawing a little more power than it used to. I have not gone to the trouble of factory resetting to see if that would help yet.

Factory resets didn't help my old issue. Updating to the latest Android os helped immensely. As stated above I no longer have the initial issues. I estimate I now have about 70-80% capacity, which is not bad at all considering I bought my battery through Amazon for around $20.
I thought if you got your battery replaced at ubreakifix, then they are obligated to fix your issue or refund you your money.
