Suggestion about magnetic phone holder for the car - Nexus 6P Accessories

Wanted to know if any of you use magnetic phone holder.
There are many choices and wanted to if there is a problem to put the magnetic sticker between the phone and the case (spiegen hybrid) ?
I worry about the influence on the phone from the magnet.

Been using a circular vent magnet on my phone for a couple years now. I used the air doc on my Note 4 then switched to the Spigen vent magnet. Never anything corrupted files, screen issues, nothing. I put the little metal plate between my Spigen rugged armor care and phone and it's perfect. The phone might adjust a little over big bumps or pot holes, but I've never had a phone fall of the mount

Magnets won't erase the data on the phone. You're probably thinking of magnets and hard drives...
@OP, I use these in my cars and a word of warning. They don't hold the 6P very well. It's too big of a phone and it comes lose (especially true under strong accelerations and turns [emoji6])

so, what you recommend for the car ?
i need phone holder (nexus 6p size + note edge) and car charger for both.
I know that our is type C and note is regular USB.

For anyone having issues with the Nexus 6p sticking to the magnet over bumps.. go to Amazon and buy an 8 pack of square metal pieces that stick on your cases between phone and case ($4 for an 8 pack). I stuck 2 metal plates between my case and phone and that suck won't move. I have the Spigen case with the carbon fiber on top and bottom. I always forget the name, but 2 pieces of those metal squares between your phone and case and your not moving. Matter fact the pull is so hard it pulls the phone out of my front pocket to the magnet when I get in the car lol.

I've been using the Logitech +Drive and it grips just right - no slide off problems at all & it somehow releases perfectly too.
http://www.logitech.com/en-nz/product/plus-drive?crid=1537
There are two versions, I have the one with the puck with sucker - so needs a flat surface or nearly flat surface for the sucker or sticky pad sucker plate to grip to. The other version grips to air vent & I can't comment on how smoothly that version works.
Note the 6p does have a magnet trigger for the folio case - so I had to install the xposed module "Magnetoff' to disable this - otherwise the screen turned off whenever I mounted the phone.
I initially had the adaptor plate 'loose' between phone and a slim case - which worked okay but it did move a bit occasionally. I've since applied a dbrand skin & have stuck the adaptor plate direct to it & it's working perfectly.

Magnetic Case LG Nexus 4 [MOD]

I originally bought this case to be able to use the galaxy nexus in the car as a gps. The case offered a convenient solution. There is a magnet under the pattern. Then when I got the N4 and i missed being able to mount it in the car. Still having the case i decided to modify it in order to use it on the N4.
PARTS
-Galaxy nexus Wallee case from http://goo.gl/Vs7uJ 30$
-Car mount http://goo.gl/C2jxI 35$
-Cheap case for the N4, this is the one I used, goo.gl/yY9Bi 10$
Step 1
-Drill a hole in the center of the X, this is important for the next step
Step 2
-Cut a circular hole around the X shape with a dril. This part may be hard to find, my dad is carpenter so he had one handy.
Step 3
-Use sand paper or a file to clean up the edges of the disc
Step 4
-Use super glue, or any strong glue to join the X shape to the cheap case
And there you have it, it may be a bit pricy to buy the case and the car mount, in my case, i already had them, so all i spent is 10$ on a cheap case. But its such a convenient mechanism in the car.
Also, the dash mount is really high quality, the phone doesn't shake when you drive like most cheap ones.
Give me some feedback

I have a magnet on the back of my phone for my Steelie. GPS/Signal/compass etc. you name it, is not affected by a magnet. I have a neodymium earth magnet on mine and no harm no foul.
The metal plate that sits underneath the case kills NFC. Read review (by nexus 4 user) on amazon with 3 star rating.

Back Cover Mod

I like to use my phone without a case, but the stock battery cover has a low coefficient of friction. Also, I'm not a fan company logos.
The fix:
Using a Scotch Bright scoring pad I rubbed the cover, using even pressure, first vertically then horizontally. It took about 20 minutes to achieve the desired effect.
-phone now sticks to the hand
-company logos removed
-cover is the same color but less reflective
Looks good. I also like to use Plasidip

I too don't like using cases per se, but the only reason I do is because I worry that I'll scratch the camera lens as the stock battery cover practically sits flush with the lens itself.
Has anyone ever scratched their lens? I really want to take the slim skin/case thing I have off the phone but I know with my luck I'll scratch the camera lens the first time I put the phone down on my desk lol!
I don't like cases either but one you may like is the Spigen.com Neo Hybrid for our phone.
Very slim and light weight. It is just thick enough to keep the lens from contact and allows you to set the phone face down without touching.
I bought mine from Amazon.com for just over $20

My lens is fine and my phone receives a lot of abuse.
The Neo Hybrid is a beautiful case. Stopped using it because it makes my phone skip out of my pocket when I workout.
Order Spigen from Amazon and not their site. My case took over a month to be delivered. Spigen never returned any of my emails:/

Magnetic Car Mount suggestion please - Updated 10/19 - Back to square one...

I have been using a Nexus 5. In the car, I have a Kenu Airframe + Nexus Magnetic Qi Charger as mount+charging solution. It's very convenient, just attach/deattach magnetically. Now that my Moto X Pure is on its way (well... ordered), I hope to have some form of magnetic car mount solution. With the weight and curve back, I suppose it is not as easy. But I have read people been able modify generic magnetic mount (by adding strong magnets) to work with Moto X 2nd... Please share your thoughts/experience. Thanks!
Update 10/15/2015:
Found a working solution finally, see: https://plus.google.com/117665583874189322089/posts/CRXv8x1gqpE
Updated 10/19/2015:
The solution works for one day... and somehow the phone starts to spin to the side and then slide off. I think the pull is strong, but the contacting surfaces are too smooth. So, any slight movement the phone will start to spin a bit and then get off. I probably give up at this point, and back to the Airframe+. It's a cleaner mount, once you are used to attaching and getting it off...

I'll be using one of these http://www.amazon.com/Nexcon-Magnetic-Cradle-less-Universal-Samsung/dp/B00QAXY27S as soon as my case gets here. The circle plate has a sticky side that I stick to inside of the case. As long as the case isn't too bulky, it works like a charm.
I have never owned a magnetic car mount before. Do they hold up as well/stay in place as good as one that simply clamps down on the phone and suctions onto the glass or dash or whatever your sticking it to?
For me it seems to be the perfect combination of holding the device well enough but being able to easily remove it too.
Thanks, I don't quite want to add a case... but I missed magnetic mount so much...
Wondering if I could use some really strong magnet and not making any changes to the phone side...
The 3M tape included is really strong and the magnets hold like glue. The tape rolls off easily when you remove it so I doubt it would do any damage to the bare phone. There are no marks on the case when I removed it from my Nexus 6. As a side note, the magnet on the back of the phone gives a nice place to place the fingers, similar to the moto dimple. Sucks I have to remove the magnet from my Moto X case and put it back on my Nexus 6... My X turned out to be a turd with lots of lag and sd card issues. Should get my new one by Oct 1st.

Thanks, so will the phone still lay kind of stable on a desk? And typing on the keyboard ok when lying on the desk?
It will lay flat, but don't expect to type on it without it wiggling around. Swiftkey works if you're easy on it I guess. I always hold while typing anyway.

Wow, you install the steel plate inside the Moto X 2015 Pure Edition? Amazing... there is space inside? And, you probably break the water seal?
Space yes but plate is very thin. The seal maybe but I added the glue back all the way around. I'm replacing the back with a new one this weekend that is an OEM back with the adhesive, so that will reseat it.

I wanted to do this too but I'm a little weary of removing the back after watching a video (ifixit, maybe?). It looked like a huge pita.
Did the original back cover go back on well or do you need the replacement now? What did you use to re-seal it?
Just didn't like the color and the back was $6 so why not
---------- Post added at 04:45 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:43 PM ----------
The original went right back on. I added some 3m double sided tape around the edge and camera accent . The new one comes with the adhesive already on the back so I'll be cleaning most of the old stuff off this time.
I am still looking for a feasible magnetic car mount solution for the MXPE. The problem is that I don't want to use a case, and I am not brave enough to open the phone to put in a metal plate, and I am also reluctant to stick a metal plate to the back either. I have a green back and most of the metal plates I see in the market are either black, silver, or gold. Today, I found this: http://www.amazon.com/Stiicker-Mobi...=UTF8&qid=1444417486&sr=8-3&keywords=stiicker
It is green, and it looks like it will match my phone's green back, although probably not an exact match. So, I ordered one and it will come in a couple days. Let's see whether that will work... will report back.

Folio cases?

Hello,
Typically I just use my phones in the nude, but with my oneplus one I did enjoy occasionally using the OEM folio case in orange. I really do like my 6p, but its about the slipperiest thing I own (opo ruined me with that grippy housing) and it feels delicate. Does anyone know of a folio style case that can also reinforce the phones structure(so I can finally stick it in my pocket without worrying about bending)?
This is what I had for my opo

I'd be interested in this too, if it isn't too thick.
Google do sell an official folio case BUT I've heard many horror stories about it being far too tight on the phone and extremely difficult to remove, to the point of breaking the phone.

Does this case have a magnet to keep the flap closed? And does it put the phone to sleep or wake it up?

The valkyrie does have magnets to keep it closed BUT no magnet for wakeup/sleep function. The phone easily snaps into a tpu case that is sandwiched between a wrap-around cover, like a book, which gives it protection from both sides.
But I ultimately sent the valkyrie back because there are no holes for the front speakers/mics (the mics are in the speaker pits). This means you have to keep the cover opened to talk. And I just learned recently that if you try to be clever and flip the cover to the back, it will cover the rear-mic and that messes up the noise cancellation and makes you sound muffled. So you now have to talk on the phone holding it like an opened book.
I was seriously considering drilling speaker/mic holes and splicing in a magnet into the cover. But then I found this from tetded. It has a magnet for sleep/wakeup and speaker/mic holds. BUT no magnet to keep it closed and the cover doesn't extend to the back so the back is not as protected as the front. It also costs more since it's real leather.
I bought mine directly from the tetded site and it will ship from hong kong. They have other models for the 6p and some even come with a nice clasp to keep the cover closed, but no speaker/mic holes (why!!?)

I have the magnetic plate behind my case and the main magnet in my vent. The other day my gyroscope got stuck and all my photos were upside down. It's apparently common and all you have to do is tap the back of the phone. The magnet does not turn the screen on or off.

I use a magnetic mount and it works beautifully.
I have a Scosche magnetic car mount and a Spigen Rugged Armour case. I placed the larger metal plate inside my case with the adhesive to the inside of the case (not phone) and it works very well. Has not fallen. I have not had any issues with signal, GPS, phone turning off, orientation, etc. Have not tried NFC to be honest though.
I used a magnetic car CD mount without any issues. I was able navigate with Google Maps.
I duct-taped the metal plate to the inside of my Adopted case.
This is the mount I am using:

I'm using a Koomus Magnetos mount with a magnetic plate taped to the inside of my Speck Candyshell Grip case (and my thinner Diztronic case). No issues affecting phone performance at all.
I stopped using my magnetic car mount on my note 4 because I noticed my 4g lte speeds (I'm on verizon) went down with the magnet. Haven't tried it with the 6p but will test it out.

I feel ya, bro. It seems just as untrustworthy as that hoe Sally Rottencrotch who lives in the next building and wants to show you her kitty . . . there's a voice inside your head saying "Don't do it man, she's dirty". A magnetic mount sounds like it would be asking for our expensive ass phone to go flying after the first big pothole you hit. I was looking into a car mount a few weeks ago and found this: The Best Smartphone Car Mount.
After researching the options for ten hours, surveying more than 1,000 Wirecutter readers, and testing about thirty models, the smartphone car mount we recommend for most people is TechMatte’s MagGrip CD Slot ($11). Although it may not be what you’d envision when you think of a car mount, the MagGrip CD Slot proved to be a simple, compact, and affordable option that’s a great fit for most cars. Compared to the other models we tested, the style allows for the easiest insertion, removal, and repositioning and does not sacrifice a secure hold. It also places the phone at an ideal position that doesn’t block your view of the road.

lol, 10-4 on Sally. My main concern was mostly the fact of having a "strong magnet" directly touching my device or case. NAND, sensors, processors, etc... all concern me when it comes to strong magnetic fields :/ Maybe I will buy one for my wife and test it out on her device first

There's really nothing to worry about.
I have (as well as many others) been using magnetic holders for years now.
It's no longer an issue since there aren't any devices with spinning discs.
I wouldn't worry about the phone flying off the mount either if you have it attached properly.
I've taken my previous car to the track multiple times and it held on fine.

Baaaarely imperceptibly. Since the entire inner layer is silicone, it's quite accommodating, especially since the back plate is less than 1 mm thick.

i have a magnetic one that i had for my other phone that was already in my car. being on project fi, i got onto project fi chat help and asked about the magnetic car holders. the rep told me that while they had no data to support or not support it for the 6P, they would recommend not doing it due to the way the GPS and battery are positioned in the phone. take that for what it is worth for you...
Was tinkering with a magnetic car mount today and noticed that if the magnet touched the bottom back of the phone (right by the USB port) the screen turns on.
Any one have an idea why that would happen? Found it interesting, since that's not normally where the magnet will contact I'm not worried, but curious if any one knows what's being tripped.

Built in feature to activate the screen if a special case is used, notably the ones with a flap on the front cover. Once the front cover is flipped open, screen is automatically turned on to welcome you. You can trigger the same thing you witnessed by placing the magnet on the screen side, near the bottom. Magnet comes close, screen locks. Magnet moves away, screen activates. Same feature on a lot of other devices from years past actually, such as OG nexus 7 and whatnot.
Don't know if it applies to the 6p, but the OG moto droid had a dock that used a magnetic that automatically launched "car mode" when docked to the magnet.

I have one, got it on Amazon for like 8 bucks shipped. The metal disk that goes on to your phone is not magnetized, just metal so that it sticks to the magnetic base- so you don't have to worry about carrying the magnet around all day and erasing the credit cards in your pocket, etc...
Haven't noticed any effect on the sensors when attached, and I use GPS everyday. You would think it would mess up the compass, but I guess I don't use it while attached...
