I like to use my phone without a case, but the stock battery cover has a low coefficient of friction. Also, I'm not a fan company logos.
The fix:
Using a Scotch Bright scoring pad I rubbed the cover, using even pressure, first vertically then horizontally. It took about 20 minutes to achieve the desired effect.
-phone now sticks to the hand
-company logos removed
-cover is the same color but less reflective
Looks good. I also like to use Plasidip

I too don't like using cases per se, but the only reason I do is because I worry that I'll scratch the camera lens as the stock battery cover practically sits flush with the lens itself.
Has anyone ever scratched their lens? I really want to take the slim skin/case thing I have off the phone but I know with my luck I'll scratch the camera lens the first time I put the phone down on my desk lol!
I don't like cases either but one you may like is the Spigen.com Neo Hybrid for our phone.
Very slim and light weight. It is just thick enough to keep the lens from contact and allows you to set the phone face down without touching.
I bought mine from Amazon.com for just over $20

My lens is fine and my phone receives a lot of abuse.
The Neo Hybrid is a beautiful case. Stopped using it because it makes my phone skip out of my pocket when I workout.
Order Spigen from Amazon and not their site. My case took over a month to be delivered. Spigen never returned any of my emails:/

I wanted to keep it on, but it wasn't on straight on my tablet and had one side slightly hanging over the edge creating an annoyance whenever I would hold the tablet. I thought about snipping off the edge with something sharp, but later decided to just yank the entire thing off.
I miss the feel of how it was with the plastic on. It felt a little bulkier and easier to hold one handed. The tablet now feels thinner. Also, my tablet slightly creaks now (it didn't before), so I wonder if the plastic increased the thickness which helped the tablet to stay sturdy? Or maybe creaks comes with more use.
If I got a new one, I would just snip off the edges.
Ok cool i removed it, thanks

I use the Xtreme guard body protector on mine, There was a coupon code you could use if you got 3 things - 80off3 - that I used to get my screen and body protector for the Note 10.1, SGS3 and Note. Fits well, feels good and protects the plastic backing. Don't need to put the screen guard on if you don't want to.
Using coupon reduced price from $90 to around $25...
Not sure if code is still good but you could at least try...:good::laugh:

I would just buy an underwater camera? The pressure itself would break things in your Nexus.

your best bet if you want your phone with you is to buy a waterproof pouch like this one. Its not going to be very useful though since it will blur the camera, kill your touchscreen sensitivity and speakers. i guess it's still good to have your phone close to you for an emergency.
Thank you. what you mean when blur camera? Poor image quality when phone in this case?

yes the pouch is not fully transparent, its going to make your shots blurry. There are some cases for the iphone that are waterproof and with clear plastic so you can take pics but there's nothing like that for the N4. If you want to use it for pictures just get a waterproof camera, they are relatively cheap now and will take much better pics underwater than any phone with waterproof case.
edit : the only thing you can get that is made to fit the nexus 4 is this case(more of a plastic bag). It's a plastic bag with a hole in the back that you put your phone through and then stick a piece of plastic tape over it. Its not reusable and i wouldnt trust it to have it submerge in water.
Yeah I would recommend just getting an underwater camera, even a cheap disposable one over trying to use your phone.
The heavy duty plastic pouches work, but the touchscreen is not going to register very good through the plastic screen, especially with all the water around it interfering with the capacitive sensors, and the pouch itself will cause distortions and reflections on the captured pictures. So even if it did work the images would probably not be very clear.
Now I would recommend one of these pouches just to protect your phone from the sand/salt water. They would be fine to protect your phone while snorkeling and the pressures seen at that minimal depth would not harm the phone at all. Now if you tried to go scuba diving with just a pouch then you will most likely be buying a new phone. At those pressures water will find a way in and in extreme cases the pressure could cause some physical damage.
From personal experience a ziplock bag does NOT work very well even to just protect from getting splashed. They just are not durable enough to stand up to being in your pocket all day and staying closed/sealed.
Topic reminds me of one of the company's at CES this year, HZO protection or whatever. Hopefully the technology becomes standard for phones in the future.

Even with that protective coating Motorola advertises I would be concerned about salt water. That stuff is very corrosive and once the salt starts to crystallize I would worry that the coating could be compromised. Basically electronics and water, especially salt water, do not mix. I would think that if this coating was effective dive computers and lights would be using this instead of the heavy rubber gaskets and silicon grease that always seem to fail.
Motorola even just calls this "Splash protection"
invisible nano-coating splash protection inside and out

The s3 version fit very very very well on nexus 4 but i can't push the power button to out of the standby. Does somebody have any ideas? sorry for my english, i'm an italian boy.

I've gone case-less since I got mine on launch day, and cosmetically never had a single problem. A couple of months ago though I dropped it on a tile floor, and even though the screen or body didn't crack it wouldn't power back on, so something internal must have been damaged. I was able to use my insurance to get a replacement, but I'm not sure having a case on it other than something with some shock protection like an otter box would have helped anyway.

You know Murphy's Law...once you take the case off you will drop hard on the concrete....
This phone is waaaay to weak to be naked... I've broken my screen so many times from knee height drops.. one including being dropped on carpet. My old VIVOW was a lot stronger....
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
I don't have a case I never liked them. I have cracked the screen on my old s3 though, happened to hit the metal strip that separates the room..Other than that I have a right pocket only rule and I make sure i NEVER put it on my lap when driving.
Been using my s3 without a case since the day it came out. Couple nicks around the metallic edge but otherwise in perfect condition. I don't really have a habit of dropping phones though.
Majority of my drops are because of my son.... when I drop it myself I get the ninja/football player move of catching it and nearly kicking it through a field goal...but I like to think I am the worst draft pick ever because I usually catch it with my foot and it goes nowhere.

I've had mine since launch and dropped it once on a concrete floor at work and a few times at the house. The only drop that caused any damage was the one at work and it barely scuffed the corner of the metal trim. So little it took me a minute to find it.

i too have had mine since launch and am using a Ringke "SLIM-Lite" case...no screen protector.
device is flawless!
no scratches, scuffs, or any other blemishes.
I have been using a rokform rokbed v3 S3 case just for the mount and the phone is in good condition. no screen scratches. the case has a tendency to scratch the battery cover so i got a replacement to use with the case. not easy to find the black verizon S3 battery covers so that is sitting in the box the phone came in.
I also have a rokform v3 (awesome case) on mine since I saw a drop test on YouTube. There is no way I would feel safe without it.

no case ever
i only have a screen protector on my phone. I avoid cases for phones because I keep my phone in my pocket and I don't like the size of the phone with a case on. This may not be the best idea because I am also quite clumsy but I really do like the thin sleek phone with no case. In any case, I must say that I am quite impressed with this phone. I've had it for about 5 months and have dropped it somewhere between 10-15 times. It is usually just a small drop but I have definitely dropped it out of my coat while taking the coat off and out of the car when getting out multiple times and only have a few small scratches on the back. There has been no damage to the screen at all. So to anyone that is scared of removing the case, my advice is to enjoy the design of the phone and not worry about the back. After all, a replacement for the back cover is cheaper then many of the cases out there.
I run mine naked about half the time, in a tpu case the rest of the time. I have two very small nicks in the silver trim around the sides, and a little scuff on the home button. I've had the phone since a few days before launch, though I did replace the battery cover recently because I broke it taking it off one time. Always have an SGP Ultra Nano screen protector though.
I'd say most people should have no problem running with no case, but it may not be the best idea. I love the feel of the naked phone and frequently use it like that, but I have dropped it from about waist height a few times onto hardwood floors or low carpet.
The phone feels nice enough that you do keep a firm grip on it and treat it like your precious, and if you're careful to keep your pocket empty you won't scratch it there. But because it's so slick, it can slip out of your pocket when sitting, or off of a surface you've set it on. Plus if you have anything else in your hand, it's easy to forget to keep a firm grip on the phone.
I've now got a Cruzerlite tpu case that looks and feels awesome, and like any tpu case removes in seconds with no wear. The material provides a great deal of protection for its minimal bulk, I've accidentally thrown my old Droid RAZR onto asphalt and concrete on separate occasions with just a slim tpu case with no harm done. Recently, I've been carrying with that case for peace of mind, and taking it off on occasion to use it, or if I'm at something rather formal.
But I see no need for something more than tpu, like an Otterbox, for the average person. If you're particularly clumsy, if you frequently skate, run, bike, 4 wheel, hunt, etc with it, or have a fairly physical profession I can see it, but for the rest of us it's overkill.

I have found myself continously dropping my gs3 due to its slick plastic cover. I even dropped it out of my car while I was cruising 55mph on the highway and it only scuffed up one edge. I have a case and rarely dropped my phone. The few times I did dropped it I had a case on the phone so I can only speak on the fact that the case did its job in protecting my phone.
My phone seemed really durable too until it took a small 2 foot fall onto a tile floor. Unfortunately it landed perfectly on the edge where the glass meets the frame and wrecked the screen. The glass was slightly chipped, however, the screen below shattered and became worse over the course of a day until it was solid purple.
I spotted mine once from the seat of my truck and it lasted quite well with the potter box, I haven't deployed it with the extended battery and rubber case yet. With the potter box it survived with no damage

My friends and I were hanging on the patio roof (2 stories) during a party and he dropped his onto the concrete walkway. It just got scratched on the back cover slightly. Screen was perfect/didn't crack. Still works perfect as if out of the box. If that isn't durability, then I dont know what is. He had a cover but it was just an old regular hard plastic case.
Either luck was on his side or this phone is unbreakable.
So, the Samsung s3 is only durable if the device lands flat on its back? Is that what I'm reading?

All phones can crack, but the polycarb on the S3 makes it more resistant than the all glass iPhone or Nexus 4. I wish people would stop complaining about 'build quality' of Samsung phones - its a common myth for many people and blogs, they think Samsung phones are built well or last.
People kept complaining about the back cover being so flimsy but I liked that I could buy a replacement when I dropped my phone and scratched it and that no one would be able to notice the difference.
Prefer the backcover too
yeah, i prefer the backcover. I feel like the whole aluminum back is overrated, you cant replace the battery!
i have been using my phone naked since november and i havent seen any visible imperfections besides i mean scratch i got yesterday. sucks cause it's in the middle of the screen and distorts the colors.
Mine seems pretty durable, I have never used a case aside from the OEM flip case, and I've dropped it from my car to the cement twice now (always forget its in my lap before I get out) and I only have a couple small scuffs on the edges. When my buddy dropped his iPhone 4 the same way getting out of my car the front and back glass cracked like crazy.
The iPhone may feel more sturdy in the hand, but in reality its as fragile as an infant.

Hello,
Typically I just use my phones in the nude, but with my oneplus one I did enjoy occasionally using the OEM folio case in orange. I really do like my 6p, but its about the slipperiest thing I own (opo ruined me with that grippy housing) and it feels delicate. Does anyone know of a folio style case that can also reinforce the phones structure(so I can finally stick it in my pocket without worrying about bending)?
This is what I had for my opo

Google do sell an official folio case BUT I've heard many horror stories about it being far too tight on the phone and extremely difficult to remove, to the point of breaking the phone.

The valkyrie does have magnets to keep it closed BUT no magnet for wakeup/sleep function. The phone easily snaps into a tpu case that is sandwiched between a wrap-around cover, like a book, which gives it protection from both sides.
But I ultimately sent the valkyrie back because there are no holes for the front speakers/mics (the mics are in the speaker pits). This means you have to keep the cover opened to talk. And I just learned recently that if you try to be clever and flip the cover to the back, it will cover the rear-mic and that messes up the noise cancellation and makes you sound muffled. So you now have to talk on the phone holding it like an opened book.
I was seriously considering drilling speaker/mic holes and splicing in a magnet into the cover. But then I found this from tetded. It has a magnet for sleep/wakeup and speaker/mic holds. BUT no magnet to keep it closed and the cover doesn't extend to the back so the back is not as protected as the front. It also costs more since it's real leather.
I bought mine directly from the tetded site and it will ship from hong kong. They have other models for the 6p and some even come with a nice clasp to keep the cover closed, but no speaker/mic holes (why!!?)
