There are 3 configurations to mod this case. Since the original bumper case cost $20 and you can mod with different colors cases, this cost $4. If you can find any other cases that's cheaper, than it's a plus.
I labeled where to cut in numbers (1,2,3). How far you want to mod is up to you. Be safe and wear gloves when you're cutting the case. I'm not responsible for any injuries or broken parts in this mod.
1. Cut at box 1 all the way to the right edge. Reasons (sounds doesn't come out as good when you laid the phone on it's back). Skip this step if you're doing a bumper case and go to step 3.
2. Cut at box 2, if the front of your case on both sides is grabbing the phone. Reasons (original design to touch smoothly all the way to the edge) Skip this step to step 3 if you want for a bumper case.
3. Cut at box 3 on the back of the case close to the border. Enjoy!

I highly recommend this great universal car mount. It may be the best one on the market.
http://www.amazon.com/iOttie-Windshield-INCREDIBLE-BlackBerry-Revolution/dp/B007FHX9OK
Pros:
- The suction cap is very strong on smooth and on grooved surfaces.
- Adjustability in every direction.
- Tightening joints.
- Levers for one hand phone release and a quick button to grab it.
- Adjustment for phone height.
Cons:
- It vibrates a little when the car is running but not enough to bother me
- No wireless charging. Plugging cables is not that much fun but maybe I can DIY something later.
I use an iottie flex 2 really good. I don't put it on the dash though only on the windshield.
For a generic, it looks over priced to me.

True. The price hovers around $20.
To me it's worth paying the money for a good car mount, you guys can decide for yourselves.
Although the stand itself could be replicated for a fraction of the price I doubt
generic mounts use the same quality suction cap. The dash on my car where i have it is curved
and the surface itself is grooved. The suction cap is not made out of rubber and is very hard
to pull out even when the latch is up.
This thing works great. It has enough space to fit the Nexus 4 with a bumper. I also mounted a NFC sticker behind it to automatically open maps and start bluetooth. Works flawlessly. One complaint, the suction cup is too sticky. I have to pull really hard to get the gel cup to release from my dashboard.
Another vote for the iottie Have one in my car and it's perfect! As others have noted, the suction cup is STRONG! Which is a good thing....
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
seems a bit overpriced =)
The iOttie carries a premium in price because of its patented suction cup.
I've had my eye on them for a while, and supposedly the suction cup can work on your dash, even if it has ridges/grooves/isn't perfectly straight.

I use the same case and fits fine. But I use the iottie flex 2 mount. Just get that it holds the phone firm even without the third bracket for support.

I'm going to buy this! I have LG OEM bumper too.
P.S: I was thinking that....When i leaved my Nexus 4 under the sun, it heats a lot (even much more than when you play a game).
And that won't be good for the battery.
What's your trick inside the car?
Hey guys for those wondering,
amazon overprices this car mount like crazy for some reason. From their website you can it sells for 20 bucks. Being a canadian you can eve get it for 18 bucks from 123inkcartridges (weird huh). But yeah got mine, its fantastic.
Hey all. I need a good car dash recommendation for my Note 4.
I'd like one that is perhaps a bit flexible with size, as I have a Spigen Tough Armor case on it, as well, and would like not to have to remove it to put it in and take it out of the dash mount.
Anyone have any recommendations that can suit this purpose?
Thanks in advance, and Amazon links are greatly appreciated, as well. First hand accounts are also generally more favored over just links, because I am asking for recommendations, after all.
i use an itian wireless charger with a samsung oem qi back and the iblason armorbox case. i mounted the itian vertically on the car dash with scotch outdoor waterproof double sided tape. it works very well. instant charging when i push it into the itian charger and i can pull it out with no problems. note that the phone is too heavy for the air vent mounting (it cracks the air vent) and the suction cup works very badly.
I use this one. Works great with uag case.

Unfortunately this is a no-go for me as my CD player slot is behind my touch screen, and I actually use it, so this would not work for me. Thanks for your time, however.
I use the Bracketron Earth Elements Si magnetic mount, it works amazingly well. The magnet is easily strong enough to hold the phone securely, I've never had mine fall or shift even going over seriously bumpy back roads, and it has little feet that flip out for the phone to rest on that make it even more sturdy. You need to put a small metal plate on or in the back of the phone somewhere to give the magnet something to grip, I have mine under my battery cover because I use an S-View case but for you it would be even easier as you can just put the plate underneath your Spigen between it and the phone. As far as convenience and ease of use goes, I haven't found anything that even comes close! Once you try a good magnetic mount you'll wonder how you ever got along without it
Here's the link to the Bracketron site, like I said I use the Si mount but they also have a gooseneck version if you'd prefer.

will the iOttie One Touch XL hold the note 4 with it's UAG case, or it's to big for any car mount?
I'm not looking for a magnetic one or CD/vent holder. just regular suction cup, that can hold a large case like the UAG.

Hi Majin, the xProDock from iBOLT has just become available in a new version that includes a 2.1 Amp car charger with an integrated Bluetooth aux-out streamer & hands-free, see http://www.amazon.com/iBOLT-xProDock-Bluetooth-Charging-aux-out/dp/B00PPAQRUW/ This is awesome if you have a car-stereo with a standard 3.5 mm aux-in port but without support for audio streaming (so called "A2DP"). See this short YouTube video how the streaming part works... Because Android phones can handle two Bluetooth connections at once (iPhone can't!) you can set this little unit to stream music/gps to your car-stereo and have a 2nd Bluetooth solution for hands-free. They will both reconnect automatically when you step into the car... Always cool to stream Pandora, Spotify, iHeart etc. to the car-stereo
The xProDock includes a pre-programmed NFC tag so you can start "DockMode" automatically when you step into the car. The free Dock'n Drive App (link) can start Bluetooth automatically, turn off WiFI, start the Hotspot and much more plus that it gives you a cool interface when you drive. Of course you can download this and use it with any other car-dock too.
Good luck finding the right solution for you!

Thanks. Unfortunately for me, I didn't wait. I bought the other one last month on the 22nd. I really like it, and to me the only downside is I need to reconnect the Bluetooth to my car stereo everytime I get in. A small downside, however.
Thanks again, i'd recommend this one to folks looking for a newer solution.

Found a store near me that sells both the iOttie One Touch XL & Easy One Touch 2. both fits the Note 4 with good grip. but when added with the UAG case, which is pretty thick, the XL holds it better. still, it's not 100% fit with the UAG case, but will do the job. so i bought it, had the chance to test it and so far it's great.

I have been using a Nexus 5. In the car, I have a Kenu Airframe + Nexus Magnetic Qi Charger as mount+charging solution. It's very convenient, just attach/deattach magnetically. Now that my Moto X Pure is on its way (well... ordered), I hope to have some form of magnetic car mount solution. With the weight and curve back, I suppose it is not as easy. But I have read people been able modify generic magnetic mount (by adding strong magnets) to work with Moto X 2nd... Please share your thoughts/experience. Thanks!

Found a working solution finally, see: https://plus.google.com/117665583874189322089/posts/CRXv8x1gqpE
Updated 10/19/2015:
The solution works for one day... and somehow the phone starts to spin to the side and then slide off. I think the pull is strong, but the contacting surfaces are too smooth. So, any slight movement the phone will start to spin a bit and then get off. I probably give up at this point, and back to the Airframe+. It's a cleaner mount, once you are used to attaching and getting it off...

I'll be using one of these http://www.amazon.com/Nexcon-Magnetic-Cradle-less-Universal-Samsung/dp/B00QAXY27S as soon as my case gets here. The circle plate has a sticky side that I stick to inside of the case. As long as the case isn't too bulky, it works like a charm.
I have never owned a magnetic car mount before. Do they hold up as well/stay in place as good as one that simply clamps down on the phone and suctions onto the glass or dash or whatever your sticking it to?
For me it seems to be the perfect combination of holding the device well enough but being able to easily remove it too.
Thanks, I don't quite want to add a case... but I missed magnetic mount so much...
Wondering if I could use some really strong magnet and not making any changes to the phone side...
The 3M tape included is really strong and the magnets hold like glue. The tape rolls off easily when you remove it so I doubt it would do any damage to the bare phone. There are no marks on the case when I removed it from my Nexus 6. As a side note, the magnet on the back of the phone gives a nice place to place the fingers, similar to the moto dimple. Sucks I have to remove the magnet from my Moto X case and put it back on my Nexus 6... My X turned out to be a turd with lots of lag and sd card issues. Should get my new one by Oct 1st.

Wow, you install the steel plate inside the Moto X 2015 Pure Edition? Amazing... there is space inside? And, you probably break the water seal?
Space yes but plate is very thin. The seal maybe but I added the glue back all the way around. I'm replacing the back with a new one this weekend that is an OEM back with the adhesive, so that will reseat it.

I wanted to do this too but I'm a little weary of removing the back after watching a video (ifixit, maybe?). It looked like a huge pita.
Did the original back cover go back on well or do you need the replacement now? What did you use to re-seal it?
Just didn't like the color and the back was $6 so why not
---------- Post added at 04:45 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:43 PM ----------
The original went right back on. I added some 3m double sided tape around the edge and camera accent . The new one comes with the adhesive already on the back so I'll be cleaning most of the old stuff off this time.
I am still looking for a feasible magnetic car mount solution for the MXPE. The problem is that I don't want to use a case, and I am not brave enough to open the phone to put in a metal plate, and I am also reluctant to stick a metal plate to the back either. I have a green back and most of the metal plates I see in the market are either black, silver, or gold. Today, I found this: http://www.amazon.com/Stiicker-Mobi...=UTF8&qid=1444417486&sr=8-3&keywords=stiicker
It is green, and it looks like it will match my phone's green back, although probably not an exact match. So, I ordered one and it will come in a couple days. Let's see whether that will work... will report back.
I have read through the car mount thread, but am interested specifically in a magnetic mount. Wondering if anyone has been using one. Does it turn the screen off etc.? Anyone using, or that has tried one, please provide feedback. Thanks in advance for any info.

I have the magnetic plate behind my case and the main magnet in my vent. The other day my gyroscope got stuck and all my photos were upside down. It's apparently common and all you have to do is tap the back of the phone. The magnet does not turn the screen on or off.

I use a magnetic mount and it works beautifully.
I have a Scosche magnetic car mount and a Spigen Rugged Armour case. I placed the larger metal plate inside my case with the adhesive to the inside of the case (not phone) and it works very well. Has not fallen. I have not had any issues with signal, GPS, phone turning off, orientation, etc. Have not tried NFC to be honest though.
I used a magnetic car CD mount without any issues. I was able navigate with Google Maps.
I duct-taped the metal plate to the inside of my Adopted case.
This is the mount I am using:

I feel ya, bro. It seems just as untrustworthy as that hoe Sally Rottencrotch who lives in the next building and wants to show you her kitty . . . there's a voice inside your head saying "Don't do it man, she's dirty". A magnetic mount sounds like it would be asking for our expensive ass phone to go flying after the first big pothole you hit. I was looking into a car mount a few weeks ago and found this: The Best Smartphone Car Mount.
After researching the options for ten hours, surveying more than 1,000 Wirecutter readers, and testing about thirty models, the smartphone car mount we recommend for most people is TechMatte’s MagGrip CD Slot ($11). Although it may not be what you’d envision when you think of a car mount, the MagGrip CD Slot proved to be a simple, compact, and affordable option that’s a great fit for most cars. Compared to the other models we tested, the style allows for the easiest insertion, removal, and repositioning and does not sacrifice a secure hold. It also places the phone at an ideal position that doesn’t block your view of the road.

lol, 10-4 on Sally. My main concern was mostly the fact of having a "strong magnet" directly touching my device or case. NAND, sensors, processors, etc... all concern me when it comes to strong magnetic fields :/ Maybe I will buy one for my wife and test it out on her device first

It's no longer an issue since there aren't any devices with spinning discs.
I wouldn't worry about the phone flying off the mount either if you have it attached properly.
I've taken my previous car to the track multiple times and it held on fine.

Does the plate do any noticeable bump on the case?

Baaaarely imperceptibly. Since the entire inner layer is silicone, it's quite accommodating, especially since the back plate is less than 1 mm thick.

i have a magnetic one that i had for my other phone that was already in my car. being on project fi, i got onto project fi chat help and asked about the magnetic car holders. the rep told me that while they had no data to support or not support it for the 6P, they would recommend not doing it due to the way the GPS and battery are positioned in the phone. take that for what it is worth for you...
Was tinkering with a magnetic car mount today and noticed that if the magnet touched the bottom back of the phone (right by the USB port) the screen turns on.
Any one have an idea why that would happen? Found it interesting, since that's not normally where the magnet will contact I'm not worried, but curious if any one knows what's being tripped.

Built in feature to activate the screen if a special case is used, notably the ones with a flap on the front cover. Once the front cover is flipped open, screen is automatically turned on to welcome you. You can trigger the same thing you witnessed by placing the magnet on the screen side, near the bottom. Magnet comes close, screen locks. Magnet moves away, screen activates. Same feature on a lot of other devices from years past actually, such as OG nexus 7 and whatnot.
Don't know if it applies to the 6p, but the OG moto droid had a dock that used a magnetic that automatically launched "car mode" when docked to the magnet.

I have one, got it on Amazon for like 8 bucks shipped. The metal disk that goes on to your phone is not magnetized, just metal so that it sticks to the magnetic base- so you don't have to worry about carrying the magnet around all day and erasing the credit cards in your pocket, etc...
Haven't noticed any effect on the sensors when attached, and I use GPS everyday. You would think it would mess up the compass, but I guess I don't use it while attached...
