I have read through the car mount thread, but am interested specifically in a magnetic mount. Wondering if anyone has been using one. Does it turn the screen off etc.? Anyone using, or that has tried one, please provide feedback. Thanks in advance for any info.

A few members in the Dbrand thread have put their metal plate behind their vinyls, and subsequently used they're magnetic mounts. They reported no problems whatsoever, and so I plan to do the same.

I have the magnetic plate behind my case and the main magnet in my vent. The other day my gyroscope got stuck and all my photos were upside down. It's apparently common and all you have to do is tap the back of the phone. The magnet does not turn the screen on or off.

I use a magnetic mount and it works beautifully.
I have a Scosche magnetic car mount and a Spigen Rugged Armour case. I placed the larger metal plate inside my case with the adhesive to the inside of the case (not phone) and it works very well. Has not fallen. I have not had any issues with signal, GPS, phone turning off, orientation, etc. Have not tried NFC to be honest though.
I used a magnetic car CD mount without any issues. I was able navigate with Google Maps.
I duct-taped the metal plate to the inside of my Adopted case.
This is the mount I am using:

I'm using a Koomus Magnetos mount with a magnetic plate taped to the inside of my Speck Candyshell Grip case (and my thinner Diztronic case). No issues affecting phone performance at all.
I stopped using my magnetic car mount on my note 4 because I noticed my 4g lte speeds (I'm on verizon) went down with the magnet. Haven't tried it with the 6p but will test it out.

Does the plate do any noticeable bump on the case?
I got this one https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00VKMRR9E/ref=yo_ii_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Very happy with it. Holds well and doesn't affect the phone at all. Stuck the metal plate inside my rinke case and have not had any problems.

I feel ya, bro. It seems just as untrustworthy as that hoe Sally Rottencrotch who lives in the next building and wants to show you her kitty . . . there's a voice inside your head saying "Don't do it man, she's dirty". A magnetic mount sounds like it would be asking for our expensive ass phone to go flying after the first big pothole you hit. I was looking into a car mount a few weeks ago and found this: The Best Smartphone Car Mount.
After researching the options for ten hours, surveying more than 1,000 Wirecutter readers, and testing about thirty models, the smartphone car mount we recommend for most people is TechMatte’s MagGrip CD Slot ($11). Although it may not be what you’d envision when you think of a car mount, the MagGrip CD Slot proved to be a simple, compact, and affordable option that’s a great fit for most cars. Compared to the other models we tested, the style allows for the easiest insertion, removal, and repositioning and does not sacrifice a secure hold. It also places the phone at an ideal position that doesn’t block your view of the road.

It's incredibly thorough and well-reasoned, and by the end I had no logic with which to argue it. Mine will be in Tuesday.

lol, 10-4 on Sally. My main concern was mostly the fact of having a "strong magnet" directly touching my device or case. NAND, sensors, processors, etc... all concern me when it comes to strong magnetic fields :/ Maybe I will buy one for my wife and test it out on her device first

There's really nothing to worry about.
I have (as well as many others) been using magnetic holders for years now.
It's no longer an issue since there aren't any devices with spinning discs.
I wouldn't worry about the phone flying off the mount either if you have it attached properly.
I've taken my previous car to the track multiple times and it held on fine.

Baaaarely imperceptibly. Since the entire inner layer is silicone, it's quite accommodating, especially since the back plate is less than 1 mm thick.

i have a magnetic one that i had for my other phone that was already in my car. being on project fi, i got onto project fi chat help and asked about the magnetic car holders. the rep told me that while they had no data to support or not support it for the 6P, they would recommend not doing it due to the way the GPS and battery are positioned in the phone. take that for what it is worth for you...
Was tinkering with a magnetic car mount today and noticed that if the magnet touched the bottom back of the phone (right by the USB port) the screen turns on.
Any one have an idea why that would happen? Found it interesting, since that's not normally where the magnet will contact I'm not worried, but curious if any one knows what's being tripped.

Built in feature to activate the screen if a special case is used, notably the ones with a flap on the front cover. Once the front cover is flipped open, screen is automatically turned on to welcome you. You can trigger the same thing you witnessed by placing the magnet on the screen side, near the bottom. Magnet comes close, screen locks. Magnet moves away, screen activates. Same feature on a lot of other devices from years past actually, such as OG nexus 7 and whatnot.
Don't know if it applies to the 6p, but the OG moto droid had a dock that used a magnetic that automatically launched "car mode" when docked to the magnet.

I have one, got it on Amazon for like 8 bucks shipped. The metal disk that goes on to your phone is not magnetized, just metal so that it sticks to the magnetic base- so you don't have to worry about carrying the magnet around all day and erasing the credit cards in your pocket, etc...
Haven't noticed any effect on the sensors when attached, and I use GPS everyday. You would think it would mess up the compass, but I guess I don't use it while attached...

Personally, with a case like that I'd be looking at a magnetic mount. I'm currently using the Bracketron Si Earth Elements mount and I absolutely love it. I've got the S-View cover on mine so I had to put a metal plate under the battery cover to get the magnet to hold, but that case may work just on it's own. Just my .02, but I'd definitely at least give a magnetic mount a try.
With that case, I'd be more worried about whether I'd get a signal.

I used the Rokform case on all my iphones, ipads etc. I notice they make a case, with magnet for the S5 but none for the Note .. BUT .. they do make an adapter that sticks to the back of your phone case that includes a powerful magnet. I bought one to use with a Lumia and I am going to see if they are still available so I can use it with my Note. (arriving monday.) Here is the adapter.

That looks really interesting. The only problem for me is that I use the S-View cover and I really like it, so having the attachment hardware protrude from the back of the phone doesn't work in my case. What I like about the Bracketron I use is that the magnet in it is strong enough to hold through the S-View cover when it's flipped around to the back. I just had to put some metal under the battery cover to give the magnet something to grip, the shape of the plates that were included didn't fit very well so I ended up just using a couple pieces of scrap steel I found at work. This way there isn't anything stuck to the outside of the phone so it looks completely normal, there's no bulge on the back and no pieces stuck on with tape or anything, and when I drop it in the mount I can leave the S-View cover flipped around to the back so it's not hanging down getting in the way or anything. The magnet holds very well through the S-View flap and the battery cover, and there's feet that flip out from the mount for the phone to rest on so the magnet really only needs to hold the phone horizontally, which works great with a phone this heavy. It ends up being pretty rock solid, I've never had the phone fall out even going over some pretty serious bumps and potholes.
In any case the Rokform does look like an interesting option if you don't use the S-View cover, if I ever decide to switch I'll have to look into it. I almost wonder if you could combine the Rokform with a Qi pad to make some kind of homebrew magnetic Qi dock... I'll have to look into that
if you have no problem with aircon vent mount, you can look for something like "spiderpodium", i bought the china knockoff one, they are great because of flexibility, i still using the same one even after changing phone or case.
I would love to see some "Real" pictures of this case.
I have supcase unicorn beetle pro, what mount should i get
I second the magnet mount. I personally use the iMagnet. It's the only magnet version I've personally tested but I did a ton of research on it and found that it had the strongest magnet and also the 'sticky base' which allows it to mount to curved or bumpy surfaces. I have it mounted to the side of my cars instrument cluster dash cover at around 2o'clock, same curve as the steering wheel. This way I don't have to take my hand off the wheel to press the screen.
I'll also chime in and give a +1 to magnetic mounts. As I mentioned earlier in this thread I personally use the Bracketron Si Earth Elements mount, I absolutely love it. Really fantastic mount, super strong magnets in it (stronger than other magnetic mounts I've tried) and it also has little adjustable feet that flip out at the bottom to help support the phone, which for a device as big (and heavy!) as the Note 4 is extremely helpful. It's proven to be a very solid setup for me, I've been using it for at least a month now and my Note 4 hasn't fallen or dropped a single time, actually it barely budges even when I've gone over some serious bumpy roads and potholes.
I'll also say that the Rokform magnetic mount that was posted earlier in this thread looks pretty interesting as well. It won't work for me because I use the S-View cover, but with any normal case it should work with no problem and it definitely looks like a very good system.
Just a few questions with regards to this case. Firstly, I dont see any speaker cut outs on the back of this case? Is the speaker volume muffled by this? Also, how is the mic quality when talking with someone on the phone? Are the two tiny holes on the bottom good enough for sound to flow through flawlessly? And finally, how is your signal strength while the phone is in this case?

Hijacking the thread... anyone know if this would inhibit the use of the note 4 edge? This case looks pretty awesome...
First words out of my mouth when I saw pictures of the case were literally "WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT!" as in, why would anyone smother their phone with that monstrosity. It doesn't even look nice and I'm willing to bet that it absolutely kills signal. I have the Iron Shield which only has aluminum around the sides and I have to take it off to use GPS... It's almost impossible to get a good lock with it on... I can't even imagine what this case would do to my phone.
If you have a CD slot, I suggest giving one of the Koomus CD slot mounts a try. They have various clip and magnet versions. I personally prefer CD slot mounts over air vent/windshield/dash mounts.

I use this holder: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00R0MELU6?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00
It is not made specifically for the Z5C. And the one major drawback for some people is that you have to put a permanent metal plate on the back of your phone. For that reason, I have added a Balolo wooden back. The metal plate is attached to the wood, allowing me to remove the plate (actually, the wood) without damage to the phone. The Mountek advertising says you can simply put the unattached metal plate between the phone and a typical case. However, with a previous phone I found that there's just enough movement of the metal to scratch the back of the phone, so I don't recommend that approach.
This is not the perfect answer, but after trying many different car phone holders I have been most satisfied with the Mountek. The magnet does a super job, even on the back country roads in Costa Rica. Mountek is planning to release an air vent version by the end of December, if the CD version doesn't work for you (or you use your CD player).
Hope this helps.

Thanx for the suggestion, but from where i'm living, spending upwards of a hundred dollars for a phone holder is unviable to me. Nice solution, just a tad pricey.

I'm using this: http://www.amazon.com/Breffo-Spiderpodium-Smartphone-Mount-Holder/dp/B003O1V5CY
I've bent the two of the arms to hook into an air vent and then bent the remaining six with 2 on the bottom and 4 on the sides. I've bent them in a way where I can mount the phone vertically and horizontally. When mounted vertically, the microUSB power cable plugs in nicely between the two legs.

Hello, I've came across this solution as well, how long have you had this product and how durable are the flexible 'legs'?
I shied away from it as I saw a couple of negative reviews stating that the 'legs' broke off just after a few uses.
Cheers!
I've had this setup for a couple years now with no issues. I don't really mess with it once it's in place. I do occasionally bend everything to make a stand so I can record time lapse recordings of my drives.

I use the Orzly bumper case which didnt quite fit. I sent him the case and the guy made a new mold for me which now fits. I think each one is made by hand by order. So if you do order, I'd email them first with what case you are using. They may offer to make one for you if you send them the case.
You can use also a original Nokia car holder cr-122 for the old Nokia N8-00. Is perfect to use for all Compact series with or without case (I'm using also with Puro 0.3 and Orzly fusion).
In my case I've customized the holder to attach to Brodit Proclip specific adapter for my car

I am (again) very happy with this brodit mount: http://www.brodit.com/product.html?id=521797&pn=prod&brand=Sony&model=Xperia Z5 Compact
Not necessary to attach the charging cable to the mounted phone is very nice. And the brodit fits perfectly (without any case).
I have been using a number of different car holders from cheap to rather expensive stuff (not just for Z5C)
and until now the best working for me is this universal
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Universal-C...hash=item3f6716f952:m:mIwx2zz-h8VTQe568OmV9tA
It solves the problem when phone placed behind the front screen gets warm by sun and you need to charge it at the same time.
Air vent does the cooling and the problem is gone.

I love the Kenu Airframe design, and it's worked in every car I've tried too. Very compact design that sticks into air vents and grips the sides of the phone (right above the power button is ideal). Also note that there are knock off cheap versions that you can find, such as from Deal Extreme, that seem to work just as well, at least with our compact phones
I only use a cardboard attached to the air vents up the radio. haha~ I'll post a picture sometime.
Is there anybody out there who has their Z5 Compact wrapped in a full body skin (wet apply type) who also has the Proclip mount for the Z5c, and can verify that the phone fits in the mount with the skin installed?
This turned out to be a real problem for me with my Nexus 4...the Proclip mold was not made with a millimeter to spare, and the tolerances were such that it had NO tolerance for anything but a completely naked phone. Hoping I can avoid a similar problem with the Z5c.
Thanks,

i wouldnt rely that much on magnet ones. Unless you have a very thin cover (which i also dont recommend). If you have to break all of the sudden it falls. I personally use this type of Universal mounts:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Liger-Unive...134995?hash=item3f64350153:g:6dUAAOSw1DtXJAlt
But mine is black completely.
It allows you to charge the device at without compromising position, it also allows you to rotate it 360 and more than just rotate it you can actually move it like the mirrors of your car. It has some protections to protect your car, your phone, and to prevent the phone from falling. And it can hold up to a 7" width phone. I think that even i bit more than 7 inch. I dont know if the one i sent in the link is the exact same one im using however it looks exactly the same. the hard sponge in each side allows you to implement pressure on the sides that will prevent the phone from falling. You can pretty much adjust everything to your liking with this mount. I dont know about others similars to this one but this one has been for me the best out of all i have tried.
It also should work on any vents of any car. The reason i dont like the magnet ones is because it usually requires for you to paste a sticker and it limits yourself to only the devices who have the sticker. However, what happens when your phone is dead and for example your friend has his phone and he/she lend it to you to put the gps or put music?
Of course, try to find one that is closer to your location if you want to pay less, or from Asia.

I'm using a generic 'air vent' style magnetic mount, with the metal plate gaffer taped (duct tape in US?) inside a 'Spigen Rugged Armor' case and it sticks/works fine. Done several long journeys over 'normal' european journeys (i.e. roads with no offroading).
Will be dependant on model, common sense and not driving like a ****, obviously...

yeah but since we dont know how anyone drives until we see it, i cant say how he drives. Also, the cover you are talking about is slim in comparison to what im talking about. Of course, he is on his liberty to buy the magnetic one. Everyone has different experiences with different mounts. LOL. I personally have tried 4 and none of them worked as good as the one i bought last. Also, in many occasions im driving with people that lend me their phones for multiple reasons. (that is my case only). And my saying is better to be prepared than sorry for every single thing.

Agreed - this is very much a case of suck it and see. Just saying that this particular generic version works fine in normal driving conditions with a entry branded 'rugged' thickness case, rather than a thin one. If you are likely to mount curves or drive on particularly bumpy tracks experiences may differ.
Thanks for the input guys.
Currently I'm using a Poetic Atmosphere case. So I'm assuming it's pretty thin. I might give the magnet option a try.
For me, it is almost always Brodit, have a look at these. I have a Brodit ProClip installed in my car, and instead of Brodit device specific holder, I have installed Herbert Richter adjustable holder set up onto Brodit ProClip as I have more than one device.

Thanks for the input guys.
Currently I'm using a Poetic Atmosphere case. So I'm assuming it's pretty thin. I might give the magnet option a try.

Good luck! And your welcome
I've gone for this.
Car Mount Holder, LanshionTM Universal MagGrip Air Vent Magnetic Car Mount Holder&Cradle for Apple iPhone 6/6 Plus, iPhone 5S 5C 5 4S 4, Samsung Galaxy S6 S5 S4 S3,Galaxy Note2/3/4,Nexus 5 4 and All Smartphone (Black) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B013ACUCZW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_UN.wxbEAMJSF3
I'll let you know how it goes.
I've always disliked having things in the way of my view, I had a hard time finding a mount I liked and the wouldn't be too distracting while driving. I ended up getting a Cellet cup holder mount and I love it. Definitely keep it in mind if you're still looking around.
Hi all.
I too am after a good car mount. I have just come from the G3, and used a Kidigi "clamp" style car mount. Specifically fitted for the G3. Even if you had a case on your phone, you could remove a part of the product and it would fit snug as a bug inside whatever that saying is... Sadly they do not make any for the G5. Here's the G3 one if interested to see:
http://www.gadgets4geeks.com.au/kidigi-car-mount-charging-cradle-for-lg-g3
As you can see, it has the clamp on one side only. A much better design this way I think.
Anyways, the closest they have is this universal one (with a USB Type C charger): http://www.kidigi.com/index.php?route=product/product&productlist_id=7&product_id=120#.V81GIPl9670
I'm really bummed there's no car mount specifically for the G5 out there. If anyone finds one, please post it!
I think I'm going to end up going for a universal clamp style for the windscreen / windshield. I don't like the magnet kind, nor the ones that sit on the car vents.

So far I like this the best. Do you know how the G5 WITH the Hi-Fi Plus module would fare in this mount? Also, I am guessing the G5 cannot have a case on while in this mount, right?

I have the Spigen case with the HR mount and it works great. Downside is the USB needs plugged in every time vs my Brodit active charger for M8. Saying that the flexibility of the HR outweighs the hassle of plugging in the USB cable. The HR mount is an universal which is spring loaded to grip multiple phone shapes and sizes. Seems very solid after a couple of weeks use, hopefully it'll last, no reason for concern atm.

If you have a CD slot in your car that you don't use... I would recommend this mount: https://goo.gl/vF8ZUh
I've been using it for the last two years, and I love it.

Would you be able to show me a photo of your setup with the G5 wearing the case and in the mount?
EDIT: I just realised I would not be able to use the Hi-Fi Plus module with this mount. I would have to drill a hole in the bottom, which I wouldn't have an issue in doing...
Hey all. So is Brodit the only manufacturer making specifically LG G5 car mounts? I'm searching high and low and all others I find in my searches are technically "universal" car mounts. Boo! I may have to go without a case for my G5 and get a Brodit mount. Not sure how I feel about this!
There's a magnetic model from Anker. Has anyone tried?

Right from Wal-Mart. By FAR, the best magnetic car mount I've ever used. Also comes with two magnets. Get it.

I like the idea of the magnet ones like this Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/291750206879 but I don't know how good they are.
Thanks

I'm about to order the Essential. Along with it I'd like to order a CD mount holder for the car. I'm considering the following 3:
NOPNOG Car Mount Cell Phone Holder for Car CD Slot
BOOCOSA CD Slot Holder
Mpow Car Phone Mount,CD Slot Car Phone Holder
Does anyone use any of these? My main concern is that the side clamps not cover the power and volume buttons and that the bottom shelf not interfere with charger use. Thanks in advance.
I use Koomus CD-Air Tab CD Slot mount and it works perfectly. Phone is held on top and bottom, not the sides. And there's an opening on the the bottom for charging cable.

Thanks for your response. Are you using the tablet version? How secure is the "One Touch Lock Lever"; is it tight?
Yes, it's a tablet version, but the phone fits perfectly, used it with my previous HTC M9 too.
No issues with lock lever, I don't think I ever touched it since I installed it two years ago.
I also used to use a Koomus. I had the one for the phone. It's good quality.

recently I switched to this Spigen mount with magnet. Of course this requires a case. The metal plate is placed inside the case. For me this is the best solution as I can just pick the phone when I need it and not fiddle with the clamp holder. The phone is pretty heavy but I never had problems with it moving even with really bad roads and bumps.

Hope you enjoy your PH-1 as much as I do.
cheers
It would be nice for a manufacturer to make one specifically for the Ph1 to take advantage of the charging connects on the backside. I won't hold my breath.
Hell, it would be nice if Essential came out with the wireless desk charger they've been promising too!
I used this Koomus Magnetos CD Magnetic mount and I've had it for years. Absolutely love it. I use it with my Essential Phone with the Tudia case and have no issues whatsoever with the magnet being strong enough. Great hold. My only issue is the screw on the bottom tends to block the CD Dash screen which has the clock and volume level if I want to see it.
There is a newer version that improves on the device and eliminates the screw blocking the screen issue. I highly recommend these magnetic CD mounts.

For the Spigen mount. Does it interfere with the NFC functionality? How big is the metal plate? Can it be turned sideways so that it does not extend too far from the finger print reader? (I think the NFC is at the bottom of the phone).
thanks,

Need to test this to be 100%, but never had problems so far. Only used nfc a few times. The NFC is at the very bottom of the phone, the metal plate is closer to the finger print reader, correct. It should not interfer.i will test tonight when home.
edit1: tested with some tags I had around and it works without a problem. That also reminded me that I wanted to program the tags
cheers

Based on this I got the mount. BTW the plate is about 1.5 x 2.25 in. plenty small enough to not cover the bottom of the phone.

The best in my opinion is the Schosche Magnetic Mount (the small sticky version). It really sticks, and is convenient. But on the down side, you can't use the wireless charging with it.
here's a link:
I planned on using the cd mount that I had with the note 8 on the 9 but after it popped free 3 times in a row driving down the road I just ordered a mount from proclipusa.com. That worked out so well I ordered another for my other vehicle. No point in taking any chances with this phone.
These guys have a couple of different options but for me this is the best one for any phone.

You can stick this thing on practically any surface.

Depending on where you put your metal at you can still use wireless charging. I have a magnetic mount on my car and two pieces of metal slapped on the bottom of the case. Holds both upright and sideways just fine. Wireless charges as well.

would you mind showing us how you placed it and what kind of metal plate you have? cause mine is a bit too wide so it covers mostly the entire back of the device so wireless charging wont work.
I've got the iottie one touch 3. Holds the phone firmly and it's easy to put in and take out as well.

You can't get better than Brodit. I think they're sending me one to review, so I'll post a video once I've done it. For now, here's one for another phone.

Brodit is Proclips on this side of the pond. I agree it is one of the best I have ever used. I do wish the note 9 holder came with the clip for the charging cable like the one in your video.
I'm using a Proclip mount with an iOttie easy one touch 4 head and it works fantastic.

I need to move it down, and use 2 of the smaller one. Since I wanted it to also hang sideways I used two plates to have more force to hold the phone in place. I looked at the video of where the wireless charging pad is on the phone so there is some wiggle room.

thanks, i actually found this https://bit.ly/2CZ4xiZ i can see that the metal plates are quite thin and can be put on the closer to the side of the case. so hopefully this would work.
My only problem with this is it's not fast wireless charging.

Keep in mind (main reason why I didn't look at wireless charging for the car) if you have android auto and other things running the wireless charging couldn't keep up on the charging. That is why I just plug in if I am going on a longer trip and short trips just quickly mount it. This phone has done amazing on battery life.

This is a good one; It's almost identical to the Schosche, but it's cheaper and comes via Amazon. The one I use is just the one that comes from Walmart. But yeah, I've ordered one of these also.
For those with the magnetic car mount. Does the magnet not effect the s pen anymore? I remember seeing the old notes loose sensitivity or touch with the s pen when a magnetic case or mount.

Not that I've noticed, I do notice my screen comes on for an off screen note sometimes when I put my phone on the magnet a little to the left.
