I'm looking for a couple of mounts I can use in our cars. I would like universal ones that both me and my wife can use (she's just inherited my G3).
I like the idea of the magnet ones like this Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/291750206879 but I don't know how good they are.
Thanks

i wouldnt rely that much on magnet ones. Unless you have a very thin cover (which i also dont recommend). If you have to break all of the sudden it falls. I personally use this type of Universal mounts:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Liger-Unive...134995?hash=item3f64350153:g:6dUAAOSw1DtXJAlt
But mine is black completely.
It allows you to charge the device at without compromising position, it also allows you to rotate it 360 and more than just rotate it you can actually move it like the mirrors of your car. It has some protections to protect your car, your phone, and to prevent the phone from falling. And it can hold up to a 7" width phone. I think that even i bit more than 7 inch. I dont know if the one i sent in the link is the exact same one im using however it looks exactly the same. the hard sponge in each side allows you to implement pressure on the sides that will prevent the phone from falling. You can pretty much adjust everything to your liking with this mount. I dont know about others similars to this one but this one has been for me the best out of all i have tried.
It also should work on any vents of any car. The reason i dont like the magnet ones is because it usually requires for you to paste a sticker and it limits yourself to only the devices who have the sticker. However, what happens when your phone is dead and for example your friend has his phone and he/she lend it to you to put the gps or put music?
Of course, try to find one that is closer to your location if you want to pay less, or from Asia.

I'm using a generic 'air vent' style magnetic mount, with the metal plate gaffer taped (duct tape in US?) inside a 'Spigen Rugged Armor' case and it sticks/works fine. Done several long journeys over 'normal' european journeys (i.e. roads with no offroading).
Will be dependant on model, common sense and not driving like a ****, obviously...

yeah but since we dont know how anyone drives until we see it, i cant say how he drives. Also, the cover you are talking about is slim in comparison to what im talking about. Of course, he is on his liberty to buy the magnetic one. Everyone has different experiences with different mounts. LOL. I personally have tried 4 and none of them worked as good as the one i bought last. Also, in many occasions im driving with people that lend me their phones for multiple reasons. (that is my case only). And my saying is better to be prepared than sorry for every single thing.

Agreed - this is very much a case of suck it and see. Just saying that this particular generic version works fine in normal driving conditions with a entry branded 'rugged' thickness case, rather than a thin one. If you are likely to mount curves or drive on particularly bumpy tracks experiences may differ.
Thanks for the input guys.
Currently I'm using a Poetic Atmosphere case. So I'm assuming it's pretty thin. I might give the magnet option a try.
For me, it is almost always Brodit, have a look at these. I have a Brodit ProClip installed in my car, and instead of Brodit device specific holder, I have installed Herbert Richter adjustable holder set up onto Brodit ProClip as I have more than one device.

Good luck! And your welcome
I've gone for this.
Car Mount Holder, LanshionTM Universal MagGrip Air Vent Magnetic Car Mount Holder&Cradle for Apple iPhone 6/6 Plus, iPhone 5S 5C 5 4S 4, Samsung Galaxy S6 S5 S4 S3,Galaxy Note2/3/4,Nexus 5 4 and All Smartphone (Black) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B013ACUCZW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_UN.wxbEAMJSF3
I'll let you know how it goes.
I've always disliked having things in the way of my view, I had a hard time finding a mount I liked and the wouldn't be too distracting while driving. I ended up getting a Cellet cup holder mount and I love it. Definitely keep it in mind if you're still looking around.
Hi all.
I too am after a good car mount. I have just come from the G3, and used a Kidigi "clamp" style car mount. Specifically fitted for the G3. Even if you had a case on your phone, you could remove a part of the product and it would fit snug as a bug inside whatever that saying is... Sadly they do not make any for the G5. Here's the G3 one if interested to see:
http://www.gadgets4geeks.com.au/kidigi-car-mount-charging-cradle-for-lg-g3
As you can see, it has the clamp on one side only. A much better design this way I think.
Anyways, the closest they have is this universal one (with a USB Type C charger): http://www.kidigi.com/index.php?route=product/product&productlist_id=7&product_id=120#.V81GIPl9670
I'm really bummed there's no car mount specifically for the G5 out there. If anyone finds one, please post it!
I think I'm going to end up going for a universal clamp style for the windscreen / windshield. I don't like the magnet kind, nor the ones that sit on the car vents.

So far I like this the best. Do you know how the G5 WITH the Hi-Fi Plus module would fare in this mount? Also, I am guessing the G5 cannot have a case on while in this mount, right?

I have the Spigen case with the HR mount and it works great. Downside is the USB needs plugged in every time vs my Brodit active charger for M8. Saying that the flexibility of the HR outweighs the hassle of plugging in the USB cable. The HR mount is an universal which is spring loaded to grip multiple phone shapes and sizes. Seems very solid after a couple of weeks use, hopefully it'll last, no reason for concern atm.

Would you be able to show me a photo of your setup with the G5 wearing the case and in the mount?
EDIT: I just realised I would not be able to use the Hi-Fi Plus module with this mount. I would have to drill a hole in the bottom, which I wouldn't have an issue in doing...
Hey all. So is Brodit the only manufacturer making specifically LG G5 car mounts? I'm searching high and low and all others I find in my searches are technically "universal" car mounts. Boo! I may have to go without a case for my G5 and get a Brodit mount. Not sure how I feel about this!
There's a magnetic model from Anker. Has anyone tried?

Right from Wal-Mart. By FAR, the best magnetic car mount I've ever used. Also comes with two magnets. Get it.

I purchased one of these to hold my phone and was sick of changing mounts every time i got a new phone.
http://www.exogear.com/products-exomount-car-mount-holder.html
Its basically a normal suction mount with a little bit of a sticky surface that does not come off on anything. The DHD fits fine and i haven’t had it fly off or wobble as i am driving or turning (and yes i turn sharp at high speeds).
This is probably (apart from a proclip) one of the best universal mounts i have used. The proclip is my choice as its solid and fixed but requires work, this on the other hand is my second choice as i can stick it anywhere in my car and have it suck down without leaving a mark and not have to mess around changing clips.
Features:
•Exomount’s patented suction technology enables you to mount on almost any flat surface such as car dashes, glass, wood, metal,
plastics and even drywall!
•Polyurethane lined grip keeps your phone or GPS safe and secure
•Quickly and easily mount and unmount your phone or GPS with our stylish clip grip holder
•Mounts all smart phones and GPS devices up to 5-inch screens
•Multi-angle rotation for your preferred viewing angle
cheers for the thread
does anyone use this with an otterbox (or similar) case? I'm thinking of buying one of these as there is zero options available for a DHD with a case
also any issues with the patented stick technology or whatever its called becoming not so grippy after x weeks/months?
Try slipgrip mounts for otterbox cases. You can find it on ebay also.

Non mine is still sticky now, i don’t think it is supposed to be super sticky as the gel and stick i think improves the suction. I just purchased another because they are pretty good and it doesnt need to be on a flat surface to work at all.
I've read that vibration might be an issue... we have very bumpy roads where I'm at so I wouldn't like it to be all over the place...
Any further info about this please?

I think there is a video review which says this but i have tried this on a Samsung Galaxy S2, Iphone4,Desire HD and Sensation and it is perfectly fine on bumpy roads. The clamp is strong enough to hold it. You will get the same jigger on say a tomtom or any other mount.
The reason why the clamp is the size it is, so when holding onto phones it doesnt press any buttons on the side of the phone.
Quality isnt that bad for its price and i would think its the best universal mount i have used in a car, i have used many mounts but this one has lasted the longest and seems very promising.
You can even rotate it and mount a tablet in your car!
I have ordered mine from eBay.. will post report as soon as I receive the delivery...

I'm a new user of it too, and love it !
Question for you:
Since my dash is not completely straight so I can't put it there (even so it lasts about 1 day), I'm putting it on the windshield, but the arm is so short that I can't find a good place for it.
I put it meanwhile just a lil bit below the mirror, but on a way that the top of the phone is kinda behind the mirror, otherwise its too far and too hard to reach it.
I tried many other places but none was good enough.
Its or too far or blocking the road.. :\
Where do you put it? and where do you suggest me to put?
Thanks,
Yarden.
what a piece of junk! i tried it last night and couldn't find ANY spots in my car (newish 2004) where it would stick! I haven't tried the windshield yet. It literally would stay in place a few seconds then fall. did anyone else get this? perghaps i installed it wrong. is it just a case of taking the white ring protector off the stick part then putting on a surface? or did i not do something?
I wonder how safe this would be if mounted on dash and you break suddenly.

Try Herbert Richter universal mounts if you're still after an option to use with otterbox case.
I've had mine for several weeks now.
It sticks everywhere.
I use mine with a Otterbox Commuter Case and it fits well.
Vibration is a small issue, though.
the Herbert Richter universal mounts is bulky with the arm, the exo gear mount is good btu if the clamp had a few extras to secure it better it would be 10/10

yes. take the white protector bit off, its that sticky bit that helps it stay stuck to the surface, im surprised the suction bit worked at all with that thing still on lol

The quality feels like it is kinda flimsy, but after using it, it feels tough.. i used to be kinda careful with it but these days i just grab and twist it and it definitely doesn't feel like it's gonna fall apart.
The ball bit that it rotates on did get a bit dirty on mine and it got quite hard to rotate it, but just clean the bit of it you can see (no need to take apart) and then it should be all good again. That's only happened once to me, and i literally just wiped with a dry finger and wiggled it about a bit and its fine again.
I was JUUUUST about to buy one, but because I live in Australia, shipping + handling is $49 alone!
Does anyone recommend any other mounts, without the massive shipping charge?

I do not mind if you send me cash paypal etc to handle the purchase and shipping for you? If you like i can weigh the actual device (without packaging) which will make it cheaper and price up on royalmail web site air mail signed for etc?
Got one of those
I got the exogear holder about a month ago, and i can recommend it to anyone.
Sticks nice to many surfaces, the phone is not slipping down, can be used with a phone of any size (or a gps device)
The only down side is that you have to use both hands to place your phone into the holder.
so it holds the note fine ?
Most of them are for smaller phones
I would prefer one that sticks to the windscreen like a satnav other than clipping onto the air vents
Well, I say best. I just need something basic, so cheap would be good BUT I'm hesitant to buy any non-branded cheap Chinese products from eBay in case they're really bad (don't want my N4 to drop and crack)
Cheers
I really like the iOttie 1 touch mount. 1 handed phone mount/dismount and the suction cup is ridiculously strong.

Agree, it's been outstanding. Sticks to any flat surface.
Capdase Car Mount Holder for LG Nexus 4 is not bad.
I use the one for the Galaxy S3 here. It is rock solid and is adjustable.
I only paid £10.95 from Amazon tho'
I bought one of these a couple of weeks ago: http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/supergrip-universal-case-compatible-car-mount-p30552.htm
It's not the cheapest (£17.95!!) but it was well worth the money. I've had various naff quality ones that don't stick, look cheap or fall to bits. This one looks better than in the pics, looks good when the phone is in or out, sticks brilliantly (I've tried just on the dashboard and on the windscreen!). I know there's other alternatives that offer charging etc but for just a decent holder this one is better than anything I've had (and I've tried a LOT).

I use the same mount and it works brilliantly, tried plenty of others too, but it is the only one which doesn't wobble about/swivel or fall off on its own. Well worth trying. You can also find a few cheaper versions for around £5-6 on Amazon which look nearly identical, although I guess it is a bit of a gamble as far as quality goes then.
Thanks for the suggestions guys, do you all mount it on the windshield or find mounting it on the dash/vents is better?
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/attac...ande-punto-test-drive-review-fiatpuntoilg.jpg
that's my dash (pic from google) so I was thinking maybe sticking it to the dash above the central air vents. how would I stick it to this? adhesive?
If you get the one I mentioned, it'll stick directly to the dash with the suction cup.
With some other mounts you have to mount a plastic disk (using double sided tape) so they suction has a smooth flat surface.
Whats the sticky gel on the 4th mobilefun picture? does it leave a residual on what you stick it on and does it get less sticky over time?
I wonder if anyone could suggest good airvent/grill car mount as I hate obstructing the windscreen. It should be low profile and be able to rotate in all directions. Maybe even universal as i still have HTC desire and use it from time to time as ive got different simcard in that. Tried looking for some but most are either in China or in USA and the ones I saw that I would like do not ship to UK.
Any suggestions? Thank you.

Having tried many over the years Brodit do the best holders IMHO. The adjustable iphone4 holder is a fantastic fit on the nexus 4 and u can adjust it to whatever case or bumper you have for a perfect fit. Mounting option is dependant on your car and though pricey the upshot is if you change car or phone you only have to replace half of your holder rather than the whole thing.
I bought this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Exogear-Exo...Phone-5-Android-Phone-GPS-Black-/130782407854
I've been very happy with it and it sticks perfectly on my car (VW Golf IV Variant 2001) dashboard which isn't too smooth and a normal suction cup would't attach to it but exomount would.
I use the $10 GripGo.. No issues at all, cheapest one I've found, and works as well as any other I've had. Yet it works with any device!
Ram mounts...
I've ran Ram Mounts for years, started with GPSr mounts, now I run a double mount, holds both my GPSr and cell phone on the dash. It's a modular system. Get the cradle you need, the mount type you want, and whatever arms you need to connect the two.. I use the same cradle for my GPSr units in my truck, on the bike, on the quads, all i do is mode the cradle and arm from place to place... But it can get pricey, depending on how complex a setup you run... But on the same now, you can get parts to rig up everything from a cell phone/GPSr up to laptop computers....
the Ram X-Grip I'm currently using does have a habit of adjusting the volume if the phone is centered in the bracket, but it's easy enough to offset the phone slightly. I've used the same cradle for my last 3 phones.
I'm currently in the process of mating a google orb to the xgrip to provide wireless charging in my truck without having to worry about the phone sliding or falling...
Hey all. I need a good car dash recommendation for my Note 4.
I'd like one that is perhaps a bit flexible with size, as I have a Spigen Tough Armor case on it, as well, and would like not to have to remove it to put it in and take it out of the dash mount.
Anyone have any recommendations that can suit this purpose?
Thanks in advance, and Amazon links are greatly appreciated, as well. First hand accounts are also generally more favored over just links, because I am asking for recommendations, after all.
i use an itian wireless charger with a samsung oem qi back and the iblason armorbox case. i mounted the itian vertically on the car dash with scotch outdoor waterproof double sided tape. it works very well. instant charging when i push it into the itian charger and i can pull it out with no problems. note that the phone is too heavy for the air vent mounting (it cracks the air vent) and the suction cup works very badly.

Unfortunately this is a no-go for me as my CD player slot is behind my touch screen, and I actually use it, so this would not work for me. Thanks for your time, however.
I use the Bracketron Earth Elements Si magnetic mount, it works amazingly well. The magnet is easily strong enough to hold the phone securely, I've never had mine fall or shift even going over seriously bumpy back roads, and it has little feet that flip out for the phone to rest on that make it even more sturdy. You need to put a small metal plate on or in the back of the phone somewhere to give the magnet something to grip, I have mine under my battery cover because I use an S-View case but for you it would be even easier as you can just put the plate underneath your Spigen between it and the phone. As far as convenience and ease of use goes, I haven't found anything that even comes close! Once you try a good magnetic mount you'll wonder how you ever got along without it
Here's the link to the Bracketron site, like I said I use the Si mount but they also have a gooseneck version if you'd prefer.

Thanks in advance, and Amazon links are greatly appreciated, as well. First hand accounts are also generally more favored over just links, because I am asking for recommendations, after all.

I use an iBolt xPro, bought it a couple of years ago for my Galaxy S3, it fits fine for my Note 4 with Seidio Dilex Pro. It's adjustable in bot axes. I'd contact them and check about your case (if you like this one) to ask about your case/phone combo.

Any with Qi Charging? cd slot mount might be nice as well, damn useless slot!

I originally bought it for my Note 2 back in 2013. I now own a Note 4, I also have a Spigen Tough Case and it still fits perfectly.

I bought one of these in April of last year for my Note 2, as well. However, when it arrived broken, I decided not to stick with it, and wound up not getting anything.

This one seems interesting. I may look into it and go with it. It's a bit higher priced, but it has some extra features that seem nice.
will the iOttie One Touch XL hold the note 4 with it's UAG case, or it's to big for any car mount?
I'm not looking for a magnetic one or CD/vent holder. just regular suction cup, that can hold a large case like the UAG.

Hey all. I need a good car dash recommendation for my Note 4.
Hi Majin, the xProDock from iBOLT has just become available in a new version that includes a 2.1 Amp car charger with an integrated Bluetooth aux-out streamer & hands-free, see http://www.amazon.com/iBOLT-xProDock-Bluetooth-Charging-aux-out/dp/B00PPAQRUW/ This is awesome if you have a car-stereo with a standard 3.5 mm aux-in port but without support for audio streaming (so called "A2DP"). See this short YouTube video how the streaming part works... Because Android phones can handle two Bluetooth connections at once (iPhone can't!) you can set this little unit to stream music/gps to your car-stereo and have a 2nd Bluetooth solution for hands-free. They will both reconnect automatically when you step into the car... Always cool to stream Pandora, Spotify, iHeart etc. to the car-stereo
The xProDock includes a pre-programmed NFC tag so you can start "DockMode" automatically when you step into the car. The free Dock'n Drive App (link) can start Bluetooth automatically, turn off WiFI, start the Hotspot and much more plus that it gives you a cool interface when you drive. Of course you can download this and use it with any other car-dock too.
Good luck finding the right solution for you!

Thanks. Unfortunately for me, I didn't wait. I bought the other one last month on the 22nd. I really like it, and to me the only downside is I need to reconnect the Bluetooth to my car stereo everytime I get in. A small downside, however.
Thanks again, i'd recommend this one to folks looking for a newer solution.

I have a truck and the iOttie touch 2 is amazing I have a note 4 in a spigen case and it goes no where and could not say better things about it.
Did you guys tried this one?
http://www.scosche.com/magic-mount-cell-phone-holder-tablet-mount
I bought it for my note4 but since it comes withbtwo magnets i also use with my tab 10.1. Awsome stuff. No pain when getting in the car. Just touch the magnetic pad and it never came off. Best 20€ i spent. Give it a try. I was looking for years for something that worked half as good as this!

Found a store near me that sells both the iOttie One Touch XL & Easy One Touch 2. both fits the Note 4 with good grip. but when added with the UAG case, which is pretty thick, the XL holds it better. still, it's not 100% fit with the UAG case, but will do the job. so i bought it, had the chance to test it and so far it's great.

Get the holder and then choose whatever base you want. I had one of the x-mounts on my motorcycle and the phone never came out unless I TOOK it out.

I've always liked RAM mounts because they tend to be bombproof, rock solid. I got this one for windshield mounting my Note 4:

Does anyone know if the M9 will fit the official HTC M8 car holder?
It would be great if someone with a test model could give this a try.
I am going to sell my m8 and would be great if I can let people know if I'll be selling it with or without the car holder as I have the official m8 car holder.
The dimensions seem almost the same but since the m9 is ever so slightly smaller from it might be too loose a fit in the car holder.
Anyone able to try this for me?
Massive thanks.
I think the power botton ist a problem. The car holder case from m8 would be in conflict with the botton on the side of the m9
Will there be a official car holder for the m9?
I use my m7 with the HTC car holder and want to by a m9 and a m9-car-holder. All original accessories I found in the www was Covers and so, but not a car holder.
There is a universal Holder official from HTC available in Europa now http://www.htc.com/de/accessories/#!pid=htc-one-m9&acc=htc-car
I got my m9 now, and I tried it with the m8 car holder, and it doesn't fit!
The power botton is not the problem, but the case is a little bit too small and the connector is not 100% at the right place

Disappointed that the dot view flip case doesn't go well in it as its too tight and squashes the hinge and I worry it'll dammage the case...
Is there a best one for the m9?
Or a offical one?
I use the ProClip system in my cars and I have adjustable phone mounts . Even works with a case. I have used this part for my M7 with UAG case, M8 with UAG case and It should work just fine for my new M9. There are 2 set screws you need to adjust.
ProClip is not for everyone as they are pricey for the vehicle specific mount and the phone holder. I have one of these in all 3 of my cars.

I looked at that model, but it would seem that there is no padding? So do you think that it can scratch M9 if used without case?
At the moment I am using a Montar grip, http://www.amazon.co.uk/Universal-S...d=1428490011&sr=8-1&keywords=montar+car+mount
I have to say I am very impressed with it as a grip.
It's the only one I found so far that I can mount on my dash, which does not have a smooth surface.
It feels very sturdy and I am quite happy with it holding my precious m9
Made me think twice whether I want to invest in an official and very expensive htc mount again...
I picked up a ram mount x-grip recently after trying several other generic universal phone holders over the years. I wish I would have found this sooner, its excellent. Great build quality, exceptional stability and holding strength.

I had one of these and no longer use it. After a few uses, it would not stay attached to my vent when trying to remove my phone. The whole thing kept coming off the vent. Nice design but not practical for my use.
i havent gotten my m9 yet but ive been using a magnetic mount from Mountek for a few years with my Nexus and OnePlus phones. It's great and universal. Just need to put a magnet between your phone and the case (if you use a case) or attach the magnet to the back (I don't do this). The nice thing about the Nexus 5 I had was that since it had Qi charging, it already had built-in magnets so I didnt even need to magnetic disc it came with.

Were you using two hands to remove the phone? One on the Airframe and one on the phone?

+1 for Ram Mounts X-Grip. I have what they're now calling their, "phablet" model.
Tired of having to find a new mount each time you get a new phone?
I have used the same X-Grip on my HTC One M7, M8, and now M9. It can even hold my Nexus 7. This may be the last phone mount I ever buy.
I use the NightIze Steelie mount kit, since I HATE clips and brackets (after going through several car mount setups with them)and anything involving more than 1 hand operation (or take too long). Just stick it and go (well...and plug it in to the USB cable for charging).
The mount on the back of my phone does not and has never caused any issues with either my Galaxy S4 (prvious phone) or M9 (current phone), both of which use(d) the same setup. In fact , having a magnet on the back of my phone has been handy in a few cases (like working on something that requires 2 hands and reading directions/watching instructional video on phone). Magnet is pretty strong, so no issues with it falling off mount over bumps or when I go offroad (I have a truck), but a pretty significant jolt (say...moderate a collision with another solid object or falling into a large hole)) would probably dismount it.
Only downsides is I have to be careful not to place the magnet near/on anything that can get damaged by magnets (e.g. credit cards, etc), which has proven to me a non-issue since my wallet and my phone are always pretty far apart (and rarely are both out at the same time).
That said, since I didn't want anything sticking up off my phone, I drilled a hole into my UAG case (for both) for the round phone mount, so its almost flush with the case itself (I put the phone mount in the middle, so I could rotate between portrait/landscape with ease).
So far its been the best solution FOR ME, YMMV: http://www.niteize.com/product/Steelie-Car-Mount-Kit.asp
The Steelie one looks pretty cool.
I want to mount it on my dashboard. Any other good ones for the M9?
I have read through the car mount thread, but am interested specifically in a magnetic mount. Wondering if anyone has been using one. Does it turn the screen off etc.? Anyone using, or that has tried one, please provide feedback. Thanks in advance for any info.

I have the magnetic plate behind my case and the main magnet in my vent. The other day my gyroscope got stuck and all my photos were upside down. It's apparently common and all you have to do is tap the back of the phone. The magnet does not turn the screen on or off.

I use a magnetic mount and it works beautifully.
I have a Scosche magnetic car mount and a Spigen Rugged Armour case. I placed the larger metal plate inside my case with the adhesive to the inside of the case (not phone) and it works very well. Has not fallen. I have not had any issues with signal, GPS, phone turning off, orientation, etc. Have not tried NFC to be honest though.
I used a magnetic car CD mount without any issues. I was able navigate with Google Maps.
I duct-taped the metal plate to the inside of my Adopted case.
This is the mount I am using:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00V54LQO4?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00
I'm using a Koomus Magnetos mount with a magnetic plate taped to the inside of my Speck Candyshell Grip case (and my thinner Diztronic case). No issues affecting phone performance at all.
I stopped using my magnetic car mount on my note 4 because I noticed my 4g lte speeds (I'm on verizon) went down with the magnet. Haven't tried it with the 6p but will test it out.

I feel ya, bro. It seems just as untrustworthy as that hoe Sally Rottencrotch who lives in the next building and wants to show you her kitty . . . there's a voice inside your head saying "Don't do it man, she's dirty". A magnetic mount sounds like it would be asking for our expensive ass phone to go flying after the first big pothole you hit. I was looking into a car mount a few weeks ago and found this: The Best Smartphone Car Mount.
After researching the options for ten hours, surveying more than 1,000 Wirecutter readers, and testing about thirty models, the smartphone car mount we recommend for most people is TechMatte’s MagGrip CD Slot ($11). Although it may not be what you’d envision when you think of a car mount, the MagGrip CD Slot proved to be a simple, compact, and affordable option that’s a great fit for most cars. Compared to the other models we tested, the style allows for the easiest insertion, removal, and repositioning and does not sacrifice a secure hold. It also places the phone at an ideal position that doesn’t block your view of the road.

lol, 10-4 on Sally. My main concern was mostly the fact of having a "strong magnet" directly touching my device or case. NAND, sensors, processors, etc... all concern me when it comes to strong magnetic fields :/ Maybe I will buy one for my wife and test it out on her device first

There's really nothing to worry about.
I have (as well as many others) been using magnetic holders for years now.
It's no longer an issue since there aren't any devices with spinning discs.
I wouldn't worry about the phone flying off the mount either if you have it attached properly.
I've taken my previous car to the track multiple times and it held on fine.

Baaaarely imperceptibly. Since the entire inner layer is silicone, it's quite accommodating, especially since the back plate is less than 1 mm thick.

i have a magnetic one that i had for my other phone that was already in my car. being on project fi, i got onto project fi chat help and asked about the magnetic car holders. the rep told me that while they had no data to support or not support it for the 6P, they would recommend not doing it due to the way the GPS and battery are positioned in the phone. take that for what it is worth for you...
Was tinkering with a magnetic car mount today and noticed that if the magnet touched the bottom back of the phone (right by the USB port) the screen turns on.
Any one have an idea why that would happen? Found it interesting, since that's not normally where the magnet will contact I'm not worried, but curious if any one knows what's being tripped.

Built in feature to activate the screen if a special case is used, notably the ones with a flap on the front cover. Once the front cover is flipped open, screen is automatically turned on to welcome you. You can trigger the same thing you witnessed by placing the magnet on the screen side, near the bottom. Magnet comes close, screen locks. Magnet moves away, screen activates. Same feature on a lot of other devices from years past actually, such as OG nexus 7 and whatnot.
Don't know if it applies to the 6p, but the OG moto droid had a dock that used a magnetic that automatically launched "car mode" when docked to the magnet.

I have one, got it on Amazon for like 8 bucks shipped. The metal disk that goes on to your phone is not magnetized, just metal so that it sticks to the magnetic base- so you don't have to worry about carrying the magnet around all day and erasing the credit cards in your pocket, etc...
Haven't noticed any effect on the sensors when attached, and I use GPS everyday. You would think it would mess up the compass, but I guess I don't use it while attached...
