Thinking on re buying Idol 3 - Onetouch Idol 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys
I've been looking to re-buy this phone now that the prices are dropping (cheapest I've seen on Amazon is $150 +Tx and S&H) since my original Alcatel Idol 3 was stolen last January (still have the box with accessories intact). I've bought a Blu Life One X 2016 and it's great but I can't get my head around how great battery life was and overall quality on the Alcatel was, hence I'm still keeping an eye on Amazon. So my questions are, is it still as good quality as when it was released over a year ago? also Tmobile on compatibility it says Partial for Voice/Text and 4G LTE Data. What does this mean and how does it affect Tmobile users?
Thanks for any help

It should still be exactly the same as before, except it will probably have mm when you unbox it. If you use the stock OS, the mm version is way better than the original one.
Mine was 130 from cricket and 3 months in I still think it was an incredible value.
If you want to install a rom on there when you get it, there is now an extra step you have to do at the beginning due to the new firmware, but it's still super easy to do.
Lastly cm13 (the mm version) is currently being developed on xda for the idol 3. It is simply the pinnacle of phone OSes. There was a delay waiting for Alcatel to release the mm kernel sources but they finally did it!

Awesome, thanks a lot. Any idea why compatibility now says Partial for Voice/Text and 4G LTE Data.? When I first bought my phone it was Full compatibility for T Mobile.
David C.

My mistake, no mm sources yet, they are using the prebuilt kernel for now.
Also to answer other question, lte band 12 is disabled on the mm firmware. To fix it all you need to do is install twrp and flash the 5.x modem zip over the mm install. Detailed directions and requiree files are available on xda idol 3 forum. It only takes a few minutes and this doesn't change anything else except bringing back band 12.
Everyone should spend a few hours reading around your phones area on xda. You will learn so much...

I'm also new to the phone but not the forum or rooting. I've had my phone for 3 weeks now and I really like it so far. I'm coming from a galaxy s3. I haven't encountered any issues with it whatsoever. I've tried a few custom roms but so far IMO, stock rooted is the best because of smoothness and battery life. The battery life is definitely the most impressive aspect of the phone for me. Battery life easily doubles any other device I have ever owned.

Picked it up as soon as it came out. Best phone I've ever owned.
I too have just picked up this phone. Trying to figure out the whole KK and root thing at the moment. But this phone seems to be a beast on battery which is why I went with it. So far I'm liking it well, now if I can just get off of the 4.2.2 and still retain root I'll really love this.

Not to hijack the thread but I just rooted the latest stock KK for our phone (even had the latest 5mb update for gwallet and g+). It was really easy. Just use ioroot25. The latest ioroot now works for KK with no special instructions needed.
If you like the G2 give the Flex a try. I loved the G2 but just happened to stop by a T-Mobile store and played with a Flex. Great phone!

I am also very new here and to the lg g2, I have rooted my att lg g2 using ioroot25 can you elaborate more on how to get Kitkat on my phone, its currently on 4.2.2 with a sim card from Aio Wireless if that matters, I would appreciate the help
Get yourself a case, a good case.
I just dropped the G2 yesterday, my first drop in many years and the entire screen shattered hence touchscreen isn't working at all. Also possibly the usb port got damaged too.
Just let you guys know how fragile this phone is.

Sorry for the late response. I have a job that occupies a lot of my time so I turn notifications off. If you haven't seen it already, there is a thread in this same section that was just created...........
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2722536
It explains the process step by step.
Edit: Actually, I think the guide starts off with you already being on kit Kat. The way I did it was using the tot and dll file for 4.4.2 along with the lg flash tool to bring my phone to stock kit Kat. (My phone didn't want to automatically receive the kit Kat ota and i didn't want to bother calling in and having it "pushed".) Then I accepted the minor update bringing my phone to d80020k (latest software version). Finally, I followed the method above using ioroot25.

Looking to switch to this phone

I hope this is the right place for this post and if not I apologize in advance. I currently have a Verizon Galaxy S4 which is my first smart phone so going in, I didn't know much about rooting and flashing and other modifications so as I began tinkering, I was very unhappy to find my bootloader had been locked. I've had this phone a while and being unable to flash AOSP roms and the like is really starting to get annoying so I have been browsing Swappa and considering a new phone. I very much do like the M8 and it seems to be my best option for a decent upgrade without breaking the bank. I was wondering if all versions of the Verizon M8 are completely unlock-able or if there are things I should look for when buying this phone. Are there any software updates that have locked the bootloader down to the point that there is no unlock solution? Is there anything specific I should avoid when looking to purchase this phone? On a similar note, should putting my sim from my S4 into this phone just work or will I need to go through Verizon and get the device approved? Thank you in advance for any replies and I apologize again if this is the wrong place to post this.
The Sunshine unlock is available for $25 for all devices running Android 4.4.3 or below. Sunshine hasn't been updated to support Android 4.4.4 yet. If you want to S-OFF, unlock your bootloader, and root the device you will need a phone running either Android 4.4.2 or Android 4.4.3. The Galaxy S4 uses a micro SIM and the M8 uses a nano SIM. You can try cutting your current SIM down, but the best option is to get a new SIM.
That's honestly what I was wondering as well, and it's something good to know once I make the switch from a Note 2 to the m8.
I switched from a Galaxy S5 and my mistake was not doing enough research I ended up getting a M8 on 4.4.4 and now I'm stock again with a locked bootloader for now, you're definitely gonna want to make sure that you get a phone on 4.4.3 or lower

I dont know about OP, but I know for me I am okay with not having an unlocked bootloader. The droid turbo has way too many problems, the nexus 6 has its share of problems and hasn't been announced for Verizon yet, and Touchwhiz is way too laggy and buggy for me to even consider it after having the Note 2 for two years.
Coming from flashing everything posted on XDA to my Galaxy S3 I was pretty happy with Sense 6. It's a bit of its own spin but is honestly pretty bearable. Battery life is perfect (with heavy use near a days use easy), fast and takes wonderful pictures. I miss the ability to swap out batteries but it's really not too much of an issue with this phone. Front facing speakers are wonderful and seem pretty obvious with BoomSound suprisingly not a gimmick
My only real complaint is the stock emojis HTC throws at you, but that's pretty minimal.

I went from a Note 2 to the M8. It was painless. I purchased a sim cutter from Amazon for $5. I cut the sim and all's well.
i left the note 3..... and i love it! especially the sound output.... its absolutely amazing! over bluetooth or headphones. its night and day over the note 3....
just try and find one that's already s-off and unlocked.
good luck!

All of the devs working to unlock the S4 have jumped ship as well. We lost about 4 guys that were really working hard to unlock it.

Is anyone else losing hope we'll see an official lollipop update from at&t?

I've been searching all over and ive found nothing. It's the begining of a new year and I'm starting to think we're not getting a lollipop update anymore..
I always believe all model branded by us carriers will get any update last of all other makes.
Yeah, it's been that way pretty much with every phone I've ever owned. I wish phone manufactures wouldn't allow carriers to intervene. But at least usually an international ROM is ported over to the us models.. I wish someone would do that
I just want it to come so i can get the latest cloudy.
Right. That's the ROM I wanted to use.
Custom Roms.
That's why we use custom roms. The unofficial cyanongen is a good substitute for a lollipop update.

Really??? When have you ever known AT&T to let anyone know about an update until it is in process? I think we will get an L update for two reasons. AT&T has always seemed to allow at least one major upgrade of versions and the phone is barely 6 months old.
Besides that, the rollout of L for international G3s started less than 2 months ago. U.S. carriers typically take time to "test" (i.e. install their bloatware and figure out how to lock down the phone) the new updates.
Yeah I'm getting very fed up with all this too... I use liquidsmooth in the meantime and it works great, but I just miss the LG camera... Also other features but mainly the camera... I had the nexus 5 before this phone and I loved the timely updates... Too bad it don't work the same with this phone...

I was being a little over dramatic. I know eventually we'll get an update, but instead of trying to add all that bloat and strip things from the software they should be trying to get it out for the users as soon as possible.

Unfortunately this is the case with all android phones and tablets. The latest and greatest hits the Nexus lines first. Other phones are at the mercy of the phone manufacturer (as well as the carriers in some cases).
With all the custom roms and cm12 for our phone right around the corner. Who needs an official bloated at&t L Rom. Custom roms run so much better than stock anyway. .....and L is good but very over rated K.K. 4.4.4 is working great. Be patient you will get your stock at&t L by the latest March

Update today I got a notification to update I am ON stock d85010d
I have the phone a week this was my 1 st notification I wonder if this is the 10f or something else I haven't rooted yet. Did anyone else get this today and if so what is it ?
It's 10f I got the notice today as well. If you are rooted it will not break root.
I believe it'll come to us soon but I can care less if the update comes. I'm fine with what were using now.
the only problem with all the Lollipop Roms we currently have is that the camera app sucks, we loose 4K recording, Laser Focus, Slow motion and front facing flash. Plus the quality of the pictures is not even near to the quality of the stock camera.
1cwolf has been rooting the stock roms and tweaking them I am sure he will do the same when L drops. He is making debloated ver also. That's prob what I'll stick with cause the stock Rom does run very good. I always get better WiFi with stock roms more powerfull WiFi signal

What size was the 10F update? I am betting that is a small update before lollipop comes in...
let's not forget...the AT&T G2 was one of the first phones to get KitKat. Besides Nexus devices are there any other devices with Lollipop? LG is moving pretty quick to get the international version of Lollipop out. Where is Samsung and HTC with Lollipop for their devices?

Sprint LS997 variant updated to ZV9

I just got the update and for the first time it was nice to be up to date with security patches for a change lol... the previous updates were usually a month or two behind..
But the download didn't specify fixes or improvements, I wonder if anyone knows a way to find out if there are any, like at the sprint website with a change log.. I can't seem to find one as I used to find one with previous phones with sprint.
the update was about 650 mb.
and nobody to update it to zv9. Seems the rom community has halted.
hi guys my phone update to zv8 can i do downgrade firmware to zv6 or earlier ?
No u cant unfortunately
I'm almost willing to forego my root and hotspot for an updated phone at this point. Particularly because every rom I've tried has been a goddamn Bluetooth nightmare, and somehow I suspect aosp isn't going to be better because I've never had a phone run aosp without Bluetooth issues, and I've tried 9 phones.
Hey guys, this is a new phone to me (was rocking a release date Note 3 until last week), and unfamiliar with this forum specifically. (Not sure how I like sticking all the carrier variants in one section, but given the relative obscurity of the phone, I guess it makes sense...)
This seems like as good as any place to ask fellow Sprint V20 user w/o creating a new(b) thread unnecessarily?
I'm also on the ZV9, and it's been so long since I've had an unrooted phone, I had forgotten how much of a pain in the ass it is. True adblocking alone is driving my need for root here.
Is my phone rootable with this version of software? Is the Dirty Santa the way to go? Thanks in advance!

Ugh. Thanks for the response.
The phone is brilliant (after rocking the same phone for over 4 years, even last years phone feels like magic), but this might end up being a deal breaker for me.
Do you know off the top of your head what carrier models are still rootable?
My MNVO carrier (Ting) has other options of carrier models I can use, but T-Mob seems to be the most compatible.
Either way, thanks again for the quick response. ((I apologize for the non-searching, noobish questions, it's been a few years since I was an XDAddict, and still feeling my way around this new forum section.))

yeah, the unpaid work of XDA devs is a thankless job. I try to make donations to devs that have made my life better.
And I suspect with the relative obscurity of this phone, there won't be much more root dev'ing happening at all.
Might have to make a new device gameplan. And I really, really, never want to go back to Samsung.

I just got the v20 ls 997 also has zv9 preinstalled. I've been reading the forums and there is still active work on root for these phones. Thats all I know. Seems like they are trying to create a kdz or tot file since sprint never released one for this phone. Also there is a thread about creating a universal lg bootloader solution. I think there is some active work in the G6 forum and they talk about how it could help other models.... Just keeping my fingers crossed because I too haven't had a nonrooted phone in about 5 years and I don't like it. nope. don't like it one bit. The v20 is good but would be a dream if I could get root. heres to staying hopeful and keeping an eye on the resale market value.

Interesting! Good info, I'm still digging through this forums on this device, trying to wrap my head around it.
This really is a 'best bang for the buck' phone right now, esp if one is on a budget, getting a slightly older device. (I was limited to 300 or less by the wife in my search for a device to replace my old Note3) Plus the removable batt, the SD card use, a jack, a great cam...
I don't even use root that extensively (not a flashaholic anymore), but for the 2 or 3 reasons I do, it's important.

Yup. That's the NUMBER ONE reason for me. True adblocking.
Been doing my normal browsing for the last week on this unrooted device, and (long stream of explitives here) the amount ads that I had forgotten about are stunning.
Getting rid of bloatware would be nice as well.

Have to admit though, stock LG isn't horrible, compared to Samsung.
(used all my thanks for the day, damnit)

I've been using Ad-guard and does a pretty good job at blocking ads for the most part.

HTC Exodus 1 - If it looks like a duck...

Sad to say, the easiest way to repair my U12+ cracked screen was to buy an Exodus 1, which cost $400 at the time. (It's now closer to $500.)
The Exodus looks exactly the same and has the same specs as the U12+. Using TWRP, unlocking the bootloader, and rooting with Magisk was trivial.
Is there space on the U12+ forums for the Exodus or does it need another forum?
Anyone else with the Exodus out there?
Just curious... Haptic buttons? I would assume so.

Yeah, it's got those too.
Hi fellow Exodus 1 user!
There are actually people with the Exodus???
I'm really curious about this device, can you guys do like a hands-on of it lol.
It is about the same as the U12+. The only difference I've spotted are the special back cover (totally transparent. Very cool!) and the Zion app. I was also sceptical when I ordered and was pleasantly surprised when it arrived.
The software is still in need of some tweaks though. The cameras, for example, are lacking the bokeh mode that HTC listed in the specs, and the company promised to fix that in the upcoming update.
It's only been a day or two but I haven't noticed any difference from my U12+. It seems exactly the same, just nicer looking thanks to the slick semi-transparent back cover. (And there's a cracked screen on my U12+, of course.) Didn't realize it was lacking bokeh mode.
I wasn't paying attention when I set it up and unlocked the bootloader without understanding how to make a backup first, so now I'm locked out of system updates and trying to find the firmware posted somewhere.
I'm curious to see if Sunshine will S-OFF an Exodus and if so whether it will run a U12+ ROM. Regardless, given the similarity and the small user base, I hope the Exodus has a home on this forum.

Technically both are the exact same device, thus the Exodus and U12+ even got the same MID 2Q55X0000 for the variants. As far as I got, asking my way from one to another whom received it, they told me some more things, e.g. that even the CIDs are the same. Zion actually seems to be an OS and the Android App thus is kind of a virtual machine that it all up. As Zion is using the TEE and TrustZone of the SD845 SoC, I guess one could convert an Exodus into a U12+ and the other way round. But we'll have to wait for the first Exodus RUU to get leaked if we want to be sure. The other way round we cannot try either, as some already told that software version on the Exodus 1 is something like 1.43. and some already got an update onto 1.47. so no chance as U12+ RUUs are all below, running 1.30. or the like.

VERY interesting. I am also dealing with the cracked screen dilemma. Subscribed to the thread...
Is there really no difference?

Yes... but now the Exodus is out of stock. I hope this isn't the end already.

apart from software anmd backcover, there isn't a difference as it looks now
ETH price is on the rise again and it's now about 1.5 times the price than when I ordered mine. Still cheaper than the usual U12+ with 128gb ROM though
If the CID and MID are identical then the RUUs would work since that's exactly what stops it from flashing. Besides the version number that might halt the process if its older.
So the phones are identical besides the apps and it's different use of the SD845. Unless HTC manages to push out an update where it changes the CID/MID.
HTC just released new firmware for both U12+ and the Exodus 1. Interestingly the version numbers are fairly similar:
U12+: 1.53.709.1
Exodus 1: 1.53.709.2

Which variant of the u12+ got the update and do you have any files/info on the RUU or OTA update?

Taiwan as you can tell from the version.
For the ruu, you can check the collection thread for ota etc, if it's available soon

HTC Exodus 1 owner here, have yet to even unbox the phone and I've had it for 2 weeks now.
Curious to know if anyone has activated it on Verizon's network?

Quoting an user from the Official Exodus group on Telegram:
issues were hd calling needing to be provisioned on the sim using an older phone. and Verizon smart family turned off
Greatings all and @pixelvisions.
I read that you got an Exodus 1, so I thought I'd ask you right away. Would it be possible to you, to get me a stock system and vendor dump!? Would come in handy I guess.
Thanks and all the best for 2019

Sadly I am an idiot and didn't make a backup before unlocking the bootloader and installing Magisk. I've been scouring the web for an RUU since then and haven't found a thing. I might S-OFF and try U12+ firmware instead.
@caihuire @CenFlo can you help?
