Is anyone else losing hope we'll see an official lollipop update from at&t? - AT&T LG G3

I've been searching all over and ive found nothing. It's the begining of a new year and I'm starting to think we're not getting a lollipop update anymore..

I always believe all model branded by us carriers will get any update last of all other makes.

Yeah, it's been that way pretty much with every phone I've ever owned. I wish phone manufactures wouldn't allow carriers to intervene. But at least usually an international ROM is ported over to the us models.. I wish someone would do that

I just want it to come so i can get the latest cloudy.

Right. That's the ROM I wanted to use.

Custom Roms.
That's why we use custom roms. The unofficial cyanongen is a good substitute for a lollipop update.

Really??? When have you ever known AT&T to let anyone know about an update until it is in process? I think we will get an L update for two reasons. AT&T has always seemed to allow at least one major upgrade of versions and the phone is barely 6 months old.
Besides that, the rollout of L for international G3s started less than 2 months ago. U.S. carriers typically take time to "test" (i.e. install their bloatware and figure out how to lock down the phone) the new updates.

Yeah I'm getting very fed up with all this too... I use liquidsmooth in the meantime and it works great, but I just miss the LG camera... Also other features but mainly the camera... I had the nexus 5 before this phone and I loved the timely updates... Too bad it don't work the same with this phone...

I was being a little over dramatic. I know eventually we'll get an update, but instead of trying to add all that bloat and strip things from the software they should be trying to get it out for the users as soon as possible.

Unfortunately this is the case with all android phones and tablets. The latest and greatest hits the Nexus lines first. Other phones are at the mercy of the phone manufacturer (as well as the carriers in some cases).

With all the custom roms and cm12 for our phone right around the corner. Who needs an official bloated at&t L Rom. Custom roms run so much better than stock anyway. .....and L is good but very over rated K.K. 4.4.4 is working great. Be patient you will get your stock at&t L by the latest March
********************************
Update today I got a notification to update I am ON stock d85010d
I have the phone a week this was my 1 st notification I wonder if this is the 10f or something else I haven't rooted yet. Did anyone else get this today and if so what is it ?

It's 10f I got the notice today as well. If you are rooted it will not break root.

I believe it'll come to us soon but I can care less if the update comes. I'm fine with what were using now.

the only problem with all the Lollipop Roms we currently have is that the camera app sucks, we loose 4K recording, Laser Focus, Slow motion and front facing flash. Plus the quality of the pictures is not even near to the quality of the stock camera.

1cwolf has been rooting the stock roms and tweaking them I am sure he will do the same when L drops. He is making debloated ver also. That's prob what I'll stick with cause the stock Rom does run very good. I always get better WiFi with stock roms more powerfull WiFi signal

What size was the 10F update? I am betting that is a small update before lollipop comes in...
let's not forget...the AT&T G2 was one of the first phones to get KitKat. Besides Nexus devices are there any other devices with Lollipop? LG is moving pretty quick to get the international version of Lollipop out. Where is Samsung and HTC with Lollipop for their devices?

Have Google & Samsung robbed some of their customers of OTA's?

Well I consider myself quite loyal to the Android platform and handset manufactures. Bought (and all SIM free) HTC Magic, Motorola Milestone, HTC Desire, Nexus One, Galaxy S, Nexus S.... now that's quite a bit of cash I have spent.
So, after deciding to settle with the Nexus range, as I do like the idea of getting a vanilla android OS, plus the latest and greatest updates.... As I did with the Nexus One.
Well I have two Nexus S's, one for me and one for the girlfriend.... so we are looking nearly 1000€ at the time of purchase.
Both handsets are the i9020 models... and both running 2.3.4
So, out pop's 2.3.5, and it's only for the Nexus S 4G ... well, OK I can live with that.
Now out pop's 2.3.6 ... and once again, or at least for the moment, nothing for the i9020 owners.
To me this is just simply wrong. Plain and simple. There are too many variants of the handset now, but as someone who generally buys on day of release I am expecting to the get the updates.
I can not believe I am alone in thinking this, but one thing is for sure I will be seriously debating purchasing the Nexus Prime or whatever it may be called in the end, if this is how OTA's will be handled.
Interested to see if anyone feels the same about this.
U do know that there just bug fixes for our phone .....y would u want an ota that has nothing to do wit ur phone ...
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
There are plenty of bugs in 2.3.4 on i9020 .... most of the problem is Samsung firing out god knows how many variants of the handset. OK, with the Nexus One they had no choice due to supplies of the displays.
It should all be streamlined, not so fragmented.
There are important security patches in these updates too.

Which would apply to the i9020 I assume. Also I guess the android source is on 2.3.6 now... so our handset will be not up to date.

Yeah OK, but if I pay good money for a SIM free and unlocked handset, which also is meant to be THE purest Android handset on the market, then WTF are we lagging on versions? Sure if they find a carrier specific error, shoot out an update and name it GR1234. But if the base Android platform is update I expect and so should everyone to get them.
You are incorrect on one thing. Is that Samsung has anything to do with Nexus updates. They don't, this is all Google. Another thing, the update just dropped like a week ago, and isn't even widespread to those who are getting it. Doing research also would of helped your cause in this case. Sprint has already announced on the support page that it's coming. You should read my article.. http://the-android-world.blogspot.com/2011/09/nexus-s-update-build-gwk15f-outed.html
You sound as bad as Fixxer did with the Nexus. Be patient... It just dropped, the fix was mostly intended for the voice search bug. Which not all Nexus S's had the issue.

OK some of your comments are valid. And I know fine well that Google provide the OTA's and not Samsung. Think you are missing my point tho... and it's as simple as this, there is fragmentation of the version numbers and functionality too... I'm not banging on about the baseband, but the actual OS...

2.3.4 was suppose to be the last Gingerbread release. 2.3.5 was for the Nexus S 4G because of network issues. 2.3.6 was for the versions experiencing the search popup bug. It would make sense that they are holding off releasing anything to the other Nexus variants until ICS is ready.
There are many more changes than just the major updates you see in the promo materials. 2.3.5 changed way more than just network stuff for NS4G. and 2.3.6 changes way more than just fixing the search popup bug.
It would be nice to get all the latest security patches and bug fixes from 2.3.6 on my T-Mobile Nexus S. BUT, I know resources are often stretched thin especially ahead of a major new release like Ice Cream Sandwich, so I am totally fine with Google putting their attention and resources on that rather than updating my Nexus S with some security patches and bug fixes that the average user will never notice.
Also, the cool thing about Android is, if you really really want 2.3.6 on your NS4G or T-Mo Nexus or Nexus One.... well go here http://source.android.com/source/initializing.html and follow the directions and you can download the 2.3.6 source and build it for any Nexus device.

But do you not think that if you fork out for a vanilla android handset, that you should get every single update. If the source is on 2.3.6, I expect my vanilla handset to also be on that. I do not think it is too much to ask considering it is still sold and marketed as being the real google android phone.
I never had this problem with the Nexus One, and I sure as hell did not expect it with the Nexus S... I feel I have been short changed a little by Google.
Seriously CRYING for NOTHING. Take a breath and put the phone down. We will probably get the update soon. Chill out. And because of this you don't want another nexus? Have fun waiting for almost a year for updates.
Not crying for nothing. I just don't think it's fair.

Ever try to compile your own ROM? It is very simple and Google has very detailed instructions. The most difficult part, if it is difficult is getting linux and your dev enviroment up and running. Then you can compile your own ROM from source which will add another dimension of fun to your phone
Life isnt fair little Guy. I'm sorry you have to live in such a terrible world where everyone has choice. Someday when you are old enough to vote you can try to elect someone who will force everyone to be identical and all own Motorola razrs. Until that day comes, we will be stuck here forced to suffer as we wait for a small bugfix update that was much needed for hardware that isn't the same as the phone we own. Keep those dreams alive squirt. Never lose hope!

As one person stated there are changes and bug fixes that would also benefit i9020 owners, you know, the ones who can afford to splash out cash on handsets.
Finally you jumped up little spunk stain, I've never installed via OTA, I just grab the download link and slap it on as an update.zip

It's been entertaining gentlemen, but please take it to PM if you wish to continue.
There was only one true "nexus" phone and that was the Nexus One. Google is now bright eyed about the making money from hardware business. Expect them to fold like a house of cards to the carriers in the US.

[Q] Supposedly another OTA coming?

hey guys although i havent find nothing online that said so but a seen a few people talking about it in threats and even a tmobile sales men told me that there suppost to be a another ota for the g2x. some people thinks its gonna be 2.3.4 and have the LG Camera in it?
im just wanted to pass this along
and i will appreciate no hateful comments against LG/Tmobile.
we have this phone and we just go from there
Well, we're getting ICS either way thanks to Cyanogen... But it would be nice if LG and T-Mobile still showed some love for our phones!
I kind of doubt we will see another OTA update anytime soon but if we do great.
T mobile is all about the Sensation and Galaxy S 2, and LG has had enough if this fiasco of a phone. Cyanogen is the only hope of this ever getting another update, of any flavor.

it was 2.3.4 and their ota its 2.3.3 i talked to my friend today to see if he heard anything of another ota for the g2x. he said no he hasnt heard anything and pretty much they have forgotten or given up with the g2x.
my opinion on this is if this phone isnt going to be that much of a deal to companies. well i thing NVIDIA should release their drivers to the devs!!!

If the "OTA" is going to be 2.3.4, it's going to be outdated. We've been on 2.3.5<-- for almost 2 months now. (Well, with CM7, EB, Faux123, MIUI, etc.)
well that would be nice to see 2.3.4 at least.. maybe they can make the damn 4g icon and signal bars green like gingerbread is suppose to be. then give us the lg cam back then hopefully give us gtalk with video chat.. since skype hates tegra 2's and wont support are phones.. i shouldnt have to root my phone to get things that should just work with a stock rom.

Correct, it's just with google on the back of the phone like the G2. Only Google phones made are the nexus line.
Hell will freeze over before this phone gets another official update. If you wont root and update it yourself but are savvy enough to use xda you have no one to blame but yourself.

The difference is that the devices in the Google Nexus line have their roms developed by Google engineers. Other devices must rely on the respective manufacturer to update them. On the Nexus line Google also pushes out the OTA themselves and never takes them down like T-Mobile did for the G2X. That was lame. Why not keep the OTA on your servers forever like Google does. Plus Google lets anyone get the OTA on any carrier. TMO limited it to people connected to their network (not even MVNOs) only. Since Google does their testing of new versions of Android on their own Nexus line, new roms get pushed out pretty darn fast. Soon, alas, they are going to declare the venerable Nexus One end of life (EOL) and stop providing roms for it. It might get ICS but we'll have to wait and see.
But the G2X is a great phone and the differences between 2.3.3 and 2.3.4 and 2.3.6 are so minimal there is nothing really to be upset about. No O2X worldwide has even gotten any official versions of GB yet, so you can be thankful, for once, that the US is a litigious society and the class action forced LG to release GB before they planned to. But now that they did, any future versions are questionable. LG doesn't have a good record of updating phones very often or very quickly.
i almost got to the point where i was gonna trade my g2x for a nexus s just because its a google phone and i know it will always be updated fast. but its hard to down grade from the g2xs nice specs

LG is set to release android 5.0 lollipop in just a few days in Poland. I must say reading this was a bit shocking after dealing with lg's lack of updates in the past. I hope LG continues with updates like this in the future. I just hope it is a quality build that wasn't rushed so they could be 1st.

Sadly I'm sure you're right if past history is any indication. Once the sale is made there's nothing in it for ATT so why bother with updates. My guess is nothing official until next year. All they really want is for you to do is buy something else.

Boy it be great we get 5.0 but afraid of what crap att gonna do to the update to make it full of their crapware and bland update

Marshmallow will get here when it gets here.

I understand the craving for an update, but it seems every week there's a new thread asking when Marshmallow will arrive. I understand the irony of this statement, but please do not make anymore threads asking when the update will be out. Those are questions better suited for your carrier (I'm sure they have forums). Threads promoting discussion about Marshmallow are okay, such as asking what you're looking forward to most, but simply asking when it's going to be out is not making it come any faster.
While you're waiting, try flashing some of the ROMs, Kernels, and recoveries that our fantastic devs so graciously provide to us for free. @TEKHD, @jovy23, @foreverloco, @dr.ketan, @arter97, and @UpInTheAir (If I've forgotten anyone, I apologize) have all done amazing work for our device on the current version of Android. Take this time to test out their ROMs/kernels and if you get bored, flash another one. Explore all the settings and options. There is a lot you can do with what you've been given here.
Sorry. Rant over.
Thank you for saying what needed to be said. Although I am currently on the latest ROM and kernel from @TEKHD and @UpInTheAir, I was stock for the first 5 months of owning the Note 5. It runs more than fine on 5.1.1, and for everyone complaining that the M8 or M9 are getting MM on T-Mobile before us, there's a good reason for it. HTC has released MM for the international models and Samsung hasn't yet. T-Mobile can't release what they don't have.
I am also running stock 5.1.1 with root on my N5 and it's perfectly fine with LP. I'm in no rush for the MM update. There's a chance it may bring issues along with it and I read somewhere that it would be some time in March when we can see the update. Everyone just needs to hang tight.
@NotATreoFan @tamelion1117
Well said, sirs. I'd personally prefer to wait longer if it meant that most of the bugs and issues are ironed out when it finally hits our device. A solid, smooth update that comes a tad late is better than a half-assed buggy update that comes immediately.

Take this time to test out their ROMs/kernels and if you get bored, flash another one. Explore all the settings and options. There is a lot you can do with what you've been given here.
Sorry. Rant over.

Just what needed to be said, it may not have the new software, but I love my Note 5 just the way it is, and when Marshmallow comes out, it will be even better.

People generally feel there need to want the latest and greatest, in this case, the most up to date version of Android. I personally don't think MM will add much benefit to the note 5 because 5.1.1 is already quite good. Especially when you compare it to previous versions on tw.
If you want mm so badly, simply sell your note 5 and buy a nexus 6p. ;p it's crossed my mind a few times.
I was just thinking about this. As soon as an upgrade is pending many people all of a sudden seem to be unhappy with the phone until they get it.

Word. Nevermind that 5.1.1 runs like a bandit on the Note 5. Doze and permission control will be nice, but Samsung implemented the app optimization feature and the ROM I'm running right now has permission control as well. I'm not sure what else people want.
I'm sure the same people crying for the update will also be the ones to pin point and complain about every minor bug like it's some experience-breaking issue.
Just wait until it arrives and 37 threads pop up from sub 50 post users all notifying us of the update. Just trying to boost their thanks/post count and acting like little kiddies. I remember the note 4 general thread when an update dropped.
Anyone that is getting ansy for the MM update should read up on the 5.0 lollipop update on the Moto X 2014, my previous phone. Was one of the first to get the update, and so it had all the bugs. Didn't ever get totally sorted out, although 5.1 made it much better.
It could be around the corner:
"Samsung Galaxy Note 5 - February 2016"
Sammy is working on it, which means we'll likely see it late in the summer...ish.

I like the thread where the OP asks if anyone has received the update yet.

It looks like the AT&T Note5 has a beta test that just went live today, not many testers but someone that is on XDA got it, might be some kind of beta firmware floating around in the not too distant future. Also good news that Samsung is getting that far on any carrier, might have something for Tmo in the not so distant future.

Take this with a *HUGE* grain of salt, but I would suspect they're testing MM on AT&T because they're the largest GSM carrier in the US, and they also love to modify the builds more than T-Mobile does.
I doubt we'll see mm until the gs7 arrives

Thinking on re buying Idol 3

Hey guys
I've been looking to re-buy this phone now that the prices are dropping (cheapest I've seen on Amazon is $150 +Tx and S&H) since my original Alcatel Idol 3 was stolen last January (still have the box with accessories intact). I've bought a Blu Life One X 2016 and it's great but I can't get my head around how great battery life was and overall quality on the Alcatel was, hence I'm still keeping an eye on Amazon. So my questions are, is it still as good quality as when it was released over a year ago? also Tmobile on compatibility it says Partial for Voice/Text and 4G LTE Data. What does this mean and how does it affect Tmobile users?
Thanks for any help

It should still be exactly the same as before, except it will probably have mm when you unbox it. If you use the stock OS, the mm version is way better than the original one.
Mine was 130 from cricket and 3 months in I still think it was an incredible value.
If you want to install a rom on there when you get it, there is now an extra step you have to do at the beginning due to the new firmware, but it's still super easy to do.
Lastly cm13 (the mm version) is currently being developed on xda for the idol 3. It is simply the pinnacle of phone OSes. There was a delay waiting for Alcatel to release the mm kernel sources but they finally did it!

Awesome, thanks a lot. Any idea why compatibility now says Partial for Voice/Text and 4G LTE Data.? When I first bought my phone it was Full compatibility for T Mobile.

My mistake, no mm sources yet, they are using the prebuilt kernel for now.
Also to answer other question, lte band 12 is disabled on the mm firmware. To fix it all you need to do is install twrp and flash the 5.x modem zip over the mm install. Detailed directions and requiree files are available on xda idol 3 forum. It only takes a few minutes and this doesn't change anything else except bringing back band 12.
Everyone should spend a few hours reading around your phones area on xda. You will learn so much...
